crazy B Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Citytrips to New York are relatively cheap these days so I'm planning a trip to the big apple in September or October. Normally i'll stay in a hotel nearby Murray Hill. Off course i want to see as much as possible in 4-5 days. I don't really know a great park near the city of New York so any help and tips are welcome. I would visit 2 themeparks if possible and not to far away from the hotel. Off course other must see's or do's are also welcome .
larrygator Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Will you have access to a car or will you need to use public transportation? Unlike Europe, there are very few amusement park "close" to US cities. Six Flags Great Adventure and Playland (at Rye) are the two local parks that can be reached via Mass Transit. Both are 60-90 minutes away via Mass Transit. SFGAdv will only have weekend hours in Sept/Oct. Weekends in October are extremely crowded with Halloween events. Rye Playland operating hours. I don't know what rides operate at Rye Playland in October during their Halloween activities. You can get the the Cyclone at Coney Island by train but the larger amusement park Astroland is no longer there. Many of the rides currently near The Cyclone are temporary and may be removed by September.
crazy B Posted July 30, 2009 Author Posted July 30, 2009 Thanks for the answer. I have my driver licence so the ability for rental car and that might seem a good sollution to visit a park, cheaper then taxi anyway. Darien lake seems like fun but that's too far away i guess :s. Why does the big city doesn't have a big theme park
larrygator Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 ^With the high price of property in New York (and taxes) a park in New York City would NOT be profitable in current times.
paintballer Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Umm, Coney Island?!?! Take yellow line down there, or whatever it is, I haven't lived up there in 5 years.
larrygator Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 ^What amusement park is at Coney Island? I don't think Deno's Wonder Wheel Park or the temporary rides set-up by Joe Sitt satisfy the needs of someone looking for an "amusement" park.
