expeditioneverestfan Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I thought of something today that I was wondering if the site could ever have it. A thread used like Ebay or Amazon where people could put up park and rollercoaster (only!) stuff that they have and people could buy it. Bidding might be hard and get complicated so it would be a first come first serve thing. If you want to buy something you would PM the seller. Than if they sold it they could delete their post off the thread. The seller would decide how the buyer should pay like on Ebay. I don't care if this never happens and yes it is a little complicated. Maybe just adding a thing in the store where members can sumbit stuff they have and put it up for sale. It's just an idea I had.
Emiroo Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Edit: Sorry. I misread your post. I thought you were asking for a dedicated site instead of just a thread. I like my original response enough to leave it. And a thread such as the one you described could get very messy. But I guess a Coaster Classifieds could be cool... Enthusiast like us would enjoy such a site. However, there aren't enough of us to ever make such a venture profitable so it will never happen. Frankly, I don't even see how Robb generates the $$$ to keep TPR running. He has said it costs about $1000 a month to keep it up. It's ad free so he has to support it though the TPR Store. I did my part and bought a shirt, but there's still only so many of us around and eventually the money we spend won't be enough. I for one, publicly support turning TPR into a paid site. $20 a year gets you into the "club" (complete with membership card) and we could intern use that club status to get into special events and discounts at all sorts of parks. And just for the record, you can buy TPR DVDs on Amazon.
dandaman Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 From what I recall, one of Robb's main goals is keeping TPR ad- and paid membership-free. Personally I would pay whatever amount the man would want under six figures if it would come to that, but the store and the trips seem to do a good job of offsetting the costs. Forgive me for being so bold, but how much of a trip payment from any TPR member would go back into the site, after actual "at-store" cost of park admission, transportation, plus the extras like goodie bags and trip DVD's?

I like my original response enough to leave it. And a thread such as the one you described could get very messy. But I guess a Coaster Classifieds could be cool... It's fine. Asking for a site would be way too much of me and as you said it would take a lot of money. Yes it could get messy. Thats why I was thinking that if you wanted to but stuff you would PM the person and when your item is sold you would delete your post. It probably will never happen, I just want to kno what other people think.
expeditioneverestfan Posted July 10, 2009 Author Posted July 10, 2009 I just figured out you can only delete your last post and if you delete it than only the one before that so people would be urged to only put up one thing at a time and if it doesn't sell, change it.
Mr. Starr Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Forgive me for being so bold, but how much of a trip payment from any TPR member would go back into the site, after actual "at-store" cost of park admission, transportation, plus the extras like goodie bags and trip DVD's? I've actually always wondered that too, considering the DVD's and T-Shirts are always at such low, manageable prices.
larrygator Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Robb isn't about to set himself up as a middle man for individual transactions. eBay and Amazon put a lot of effort to guarantee that people are not fleeced and the companies only make money based on sheer volume. One bad transaction and who gets bad mouthed - TPR I am confident this will never happen on TPR. Dan - Good question, but it is "bold" to ask someone how much they make. Robb is not going to discuss how much he makes off of each person on each trip, and of course that amount would probably vary by trip size. As someone who has been on 4 trips, I'm pretty sure they don't make much per participant, enough to help out but they are not becoming rich. I have calculated costs my self for the individual portion of some of these trips and even with volume discounts (that I am guessing at based on typical group discounts) I don't see too much padding in the price they charge. With Robb away and focusing on the current trips I'm going to lock this thread. When Robb returns he can reopen if he wants, but there is not a need to debate and speculate on these topics.
