Monday 2nd of march, a nice, clear frosty morning greeted me. So I hope on my bike, nicknamed 'The Hulkster' because of it's colours, as you'll see in a sec.

A nice fresh morning, which is a very rare thing around here! See the sun and the frost. It makes me a happy fish

Behold the HULKSTER! Hulkamania is still running wild! (ok, the bike was cheap and suits my needs, the fact that it is yellow and red is just a bonus)

You can just about see some horrible person has gone and chained him to a drainpipe....

Gratuitous advertising from my work mates second job there....

The seat of the mighty SLT! ok, its an ugly old boring building behind a primary school, not the glamourous setting that most people think of with a (semi) Hi-Tech I.T. company...

The mighty chariot awaits! I spend more time in that van than in my bed, it seems. I worked out that in a 3 month period, I spent a total of one whole week sitting in the van, traveling and taking breaks. I could think of better places...

First up, some ROAD! look, its got lines and everything, and its still sunny, woo

Ok, first school, first job. Isn't that cab pretty? ok, its pretty much a mess, but again, I have seen worse. TO THE SPLICER!!

His name is Sumi, and he is very Orange

VEERRYYY Orange

Told you he was Orange...

Fibre optic cable is very small.... VERY small. the bit you can see is a massive 125um thick (thats micrometres) The inside core is a tiny tiny tiny 50um (too small to see with my fishy eye

Thats what this is for, it shows you things, tiny things... Tiny tiny things...

This is where the 'magic' happens... Before Splice...

After a blinding flash...

VIOLA! SPLICED FIBRE!! isn't it all pretty?

ok, one end done (4 cores), round to the other end, same old stuff..

But then I found THIS!

That is one scary donkey...

But the classroom had a sand pit, so I was happy

Job one done, back into the chariot, and off for the next job!

The mecca of a brand new LIDL! only open a week!

Healthy lunch.... (Lidl don't sell cheese bread, so I revoke their mecca status...)

Remember me saying that I spent a lot of time in the van?

and

Just white tape and a blade (Look how neat it is )

2ND JOB!

I hate it when people do this, not leave enough space at the top for a fibre patch panel, grumble grumble grumble, have to drop them all down

I hate cage nuts.... They hurt my fingers and refuse to go in! and also, refuse to come out again afterwards...

Now Racksnaps are a different thing, I like rack snaps, they snap in, they are spaced, and all is good. Although they don't come out again, pretty much ever..

Kevlar is evil, its yellow and stringy and super strong, and just gets EVERYWHERE! and sometimes it cuts you, because its BAD Kevlar...

Here piggy piggy piggy... Fibre pig tails, cute little things the covers look like little piggy noses

Everything involved with Fibre is over-priced. this is just a cleaver, cuts the glass perpendicularly for a cleaner splice (£600)

And that is over the top, a fibre backbone link and a big switch, just for 2 points in a Nursery. Very over the top.

Can't help being childish with the name of this school (snigger snigger)

Smelly boots

Smelly (nice) van

All work is done now, all is good, HOME TIME!!!

The Staring (Starring?) Owl watches me leave...

Well I hop you enjoyed a day in the life of a fish!

(I think this took me longer to type out than it does to terminate fibre, I like our new Sumi )
