Day 3 (the 6th) - Paramount's Kings Island - Kings Mills Ohio

I had been to the park a few years back so I wasn't in a rush to ride

anything… I just wanted to get my ride on IJST… We got to the park a

little before opening so we got to do the ace walk back to Beast. I

got to ride the front seat on the first ride of the day. I had been on

the ride before… But that was before they added the new magnet brakes.

Wow… And I thought the ride sucked before….

Beast

Type – Wood

Year – 1979

Kind – Terrain

So the ride starts and goes up the lift hill... The view from the top

of the lift is still amazing... too bad the rest of the ride isn't.

Going down the first drop you really can feel the magnet trims pull

the train and it really kills the ride… After going in the first

tunnel you go down the next drop… more magnet trims… after a turn… you

go to the "famous" 300 foot long (whatever) shack of trims…. Yeah….

And yet this ride is still ranked high… So after a few more turns and

the other tunnel you head up the second lift hill… into the big long

shallow drop… with trims that you feel slow the train… Into the helix

of hell… I don't see why people love this ride so much…. In the helix

my head hurt so much I wanted to just jump off the damn ride…. But it

was over…. Thank god… After getting back into the station... I took

one more ride on Beast so I wouldn't have to come back later that

day…This time I took a seat in the back and it sucked just as much as

in the front… It not more

Yeah so after going on the crappy beast I walked over to Italian Job:

Stunt Track and got my ride pass. It says 12.30pm. So I walked over to

Vortex… It wasn't open for the day yet. So I kept going….I got to

Flight of Fear and jumped on

Kind – Indoor

The last time I was at Kings Island FOF still had the OTSRs on it. But

I had been on PKDs with the lap bars. I took my seat and the ride

started. I liked it better when it was DARK inside the ride. Now they

have a lot of colored lights… Reds…Greens…and Blues? It's still a fun

ride but I like it better when you can't see inside. When the ride got

to the MCBR they did slow it but not as bad as PKD was doing in 2002

where they would STOP the train in it. I wish I had time to go back on

it but later in the day it had a very long line.

After that I went down to Racer… I went on Racer backwards because I

like the backwards side better… I went on both sides before the day

was over... And both times the ride did not race….

The "front" seat for the ride was a walk on so I jumped in as it's the

best seat on the ride. I use to think that PKDs racing coaster was

the best of the "Paramount 3" but Racer at PKI has a different layout

then TR and RY have…. Before the turn around the two tracks split

apart and make a little turn going down the bigger hill before the

main turn around. So on the backwards side it adds a bit to the ride.

After that for some reason I didn't go on the forward side... We just

walked away. We went over to

Adventure Express… One of the best mine rides around…

Kind – Mine Train

We were in line for the back car it had no wait... But we couldn't get

right on as someone barffed on the ride... So they closed off the

train washed it down and sent it around a few times... Then we got on.

The ride itself is very fun and fast paced. But then the end… I think

just about anyone who's been on it makes fun of the rides ending… How

you go up the big lift hill in the dark that's themed... and then the

ride just ends... And you get off… Deka had never been on it before...

And she didn't know so I made fun of her when she thought something

fun was going to happen... And it didn't…

After we left that… I went up to the sling shot ride. The sign in

front said it was $20.00 a ride… The sign on the ticket booth said it

was $15.00 a ride… When I went to get my ticket... It was only

$10.00…….. I had been on sling shots before but Deka hadn't and this

was the tallest of the sling shots on the trip… So we did it. This was

also the first time I ever had to wait in line for one... Most of the

time you just walk up and get on... But we had to wait 5 or 6 loads…

After that we walked down to the Action Zone part of the park where a

lot of the newer things are. Son of Beast was closed with a train

stopped on the lift hill. We walked down and got in line for Top Gun.

I liked this ride a lot the last time I went to PKI... To bad it's the

best coaster in the park….

Top gun

Type – Steel

Year – 1993

Kind – Suspended

The line was just in the station so I waited for the front row as it's

the best seat on the ride. I really like top gun as far as suspended

coasters go. It's very fast paced and has a lot of swinging unlike

some other suspended coasters… The ride is short but its very fun… And

as I said... It's the best coaster they have at the park… 

After getting off top gun it was almost time to ride Italian Job…. We

got down to it... And it hadn't even opened for the day yet… So we

hung around a bit... And were told even if our time runs out "1.30pm"

we would still get to ride because it was down. So we walked off and

went to Vortex witch was now open.

Vortex

Type – Steel

Year - 1987

Kind – Mega Looper

Vortex was running all 3 trains so the line was just in the station.

It was a 5 train wait for the front but because it was using all the

trains it moved fast. So we just waited it out. The ride is fun but

it's an old arrow coaster… So stick with the front of the train for a

fun ride. The first drop on the ride is still great…Going into the

first turn you get slammed but not to bad… after a few more drops and

turns you go into the 2 back to back vertical loops.. The loops are

very forceful and I hadn't had any food yet in the day so I grayed out

in both of them… Fun stuff… After going into the way to tight turn...

and then almost stopping in the MCBR you head into the corkscrews… I

like the corkscrews on Vortex because their high off the ground… After

both of them you make a tight turning drop into the boomerang loop you

get banged in them but not to bad… After that you go into a fast helix

and the ride is over….

After getting off Vortex we walked back over to Italian Job…It still

hadn't opened for the day… So we went over to the tower and went up

it. From on top of the tower I could see that Son of Beast was now

open and had people on it. Later on I could see Italian Job was now

running but I couldn't see if people were on it or if it was just

testing... We got off the tower and walked around to Italian Job….. It

was open… We got in line… Out ride time was "12.30"… We got on…. After

3:00pm…

Kind – Family Launch

This was the only coaster in the park that was new for me so I was

happy I would get to ride. They don't let you pick or wait for a seat

on the ride... They just tell you where to go… But by luck we got the

front seat. The first launch on the ride is very weak. The big helix

is the funnest part on the ride... And it's not that fun… Once you get

to the top of the helix you drop down into the fast side to side turn

part its ok I guess then you do the over banked turn and a few hills

and turns.. Then the ride stops and fire blows up and stuff and you

re-launch into the tunnel not much happens in the dark just a few

turns… I think it has a third launch part inside but you don't feel

it… Then you pop out of the billboard and do the water "splash down"

take a turn and it's over…

I didn't think the ride was going to be that good… And it is for

family's... But man... did it suck. The ride just doesn't do much. The

launches are weak and it's just not that fun. And when it's over 90*s

out… The last thing you want is a fireball in your face….

After getting off that we went down to Tomb Raider the ride…. We were

the very next people to get into the pre show when the ride crapped

out and went down... All the lights in the line then turned on. I

hadn't been on the ride before so I just waited out... After about 20

mins it re opened…. TRTR is the first (only?) giant top spin… I was

told how this ride "wasn't like any other top spin" and "way better"…

Well... once you get over the fact that it holds more people in has 3

rows… It feels just like any other one... But with a crappy program.

It's a fun ride and all but doesn't flip much.

So by then we had done most of the stuff but the rides in Action

Zone... So we walked over to it… On the way we jumped on Racer

Forward…

The forward side is a lot rougher then the backwards side is… And with

the suck-in belts you don't get much air time. Like I said before the

ride wasn't racing when I went on it... So it took some of the fun

away...

Yeah so after that we walked to Action Zone… Got inline for Sob of

Beast…. It had no line and for good reason… We took the front seat

because it was only a 3 train wait... and we were both eating our

slush's still…. My god… Son of Beast……..

Son of Beast

Type – Wood

Year – 2000

Kind – "POS" / Hyper looper woodie

The trains on this ride just suck and so do the lap bars… I had to sit

leg crossed just to fit inside the ride… The ride starts…. And you

drop out of the station and turn up into the lift hill…. They take the

on ride photo then… (So you look happy I guess…..Any where else on the

ride and you would look retarded) Getting to the top of the lift you

do a turn dip and then head up into the first drop… This is where you

want to get off…….SOB is one of the worst coasters ever made….ever….

You go down the first drop…218 feet down…On a wood coaster…. The cars

jack hammer so hard my head hurt before even getting into the "rose

bowl" inclined helix part…. Once you get into that the car hammer even

harder….then you get to the long mostly flat part before the loop...

even this part jack hammers the car to the point I just wanted to die

and get it over with… Then you drop down and go into the loop… The

loop is the best part of the ride as it's the smoothest part… After

then you go into the next helix and just want the ride to be over...

but it's not down yet… you still have a few more hills and turns…..

But then… FINALY! Its over!

I'm done with that coater for life….. Sadly on the exit ramp some kid

in back of me screamed "That was the coolest ride ever!!!!!" Well my

head hurt and so did Dekas... I jumped in line for drop zone… It was

just one load wait… I loved drop zone last time I was at the park but

it had a very long line so I only got one ride. Now it was a walk on…

we load up and the ride starts… You only get one spin going up now...

You use to get 2 or 3… Now you're done spinning before you even get

off the brakes… Going up on this ride is great... The view is amazing

it's just so tall…. You get to the top and just wait to drop… with

legs and arms out... the car drops… yay! Drop zone is by far the best

ride in the park. After that we went on Face/Off. I had been on it

before but Deka hadn't... She took a random seat (then went off on her

own to get the kiddie coasters... As she hadn't been on them and I

had…) I waited for the back "front" car.

I had been on both Face/Off and Two face…So I knew these were a lot

funner then the stander boomerangs… I was a solo rider so one of the

ride ops jumped in the seat next to me… And we were off. Going up the

lift forward and then dropping backwards is fun… The ride is very

smooth and fun. Going up the second lift is fun as you hang in the

OTSRs then drop and get a bit of floaty air time…

After a very fun ride on Face/Off I went back on Drop Zone once more

because it had no line and it's a very fun ride…. I walked down to the

NickToon land after that to see if I could find Deka. I walked up to

beastie it was a walk on and I jumped in the front seat…

Beastie

Kind – Family Woodie

I had been on PKDs PCs and PKIs before... at PKD it always has a line

so I just jump in the first seat I find… At Carowinds they wouldn't

let you wait for a seat… So PKIs not having a line I just took the

front... woo… Even for a kiddie ride it's still a fun little coaster

and has some air time…. I would take a lap on this over Beast or Son

of Beast any day…. Beastie is by far the best woodie in the park...

And that's not saying much.

After that I looked around a bit more for Deka and couldn't find her…

Time was almost up for PKI day... So I jumped in line for Reptar…

I really liked the idea Vekoma had with this ride... Taking the roller

skater layout and just inverting it… The ride itself is ok. It has a

bit of head bang but for a family / kiddie ride its great. I also like

the "older" OTSR style it has… The newer ones are bigger... So you

bang your head more.

So after that my day at PKI was over… I found Deka later at one of the

gift shops on the way out. I took my last 4 or 5 photos at the park …

and we were off to Indiana….
