Fourteen nights of fright await guests during SCarowinds’ ninth frightening season at Carowinds. SCarowinds’ Halloween Haunt is set to terrify guests on select nights this fall from 7 p.m. till midnight: Sept. 26-27, Oct. 3-4, 10-11, 17-19, 24-26 and 30-31. These supposed inanimate objects come to life in the midst of the night and are possessed by spirits of a dark and evil realm. Amongst the hay and rows of corn, they are still by day, but come night fall, who knows what will become their prey. The Asylum In 1934 the premier center for the insane opened its doors. Starkweather Center for the Insane was a model of modern treatment, led by Dr. Alexander Starkweather. The intense use of electroshock therapy led to the death of thousands of the center’s patients and more than 2/3 of the patients treated by Starkweather never walked out of the doors. Spirits have been seen in dozens of the rooms and tortured screams can be heard in the hallways aver since the doors at Starkweather were chained shut. Rumors about the patients, staff and the chilling fact that they will never, ever leave The Asylum remain today. Slaughter House The butchers at the Shady Lake Pork Processing Facility have become a little bored with their day job.
