coasterdude5 Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Today I had the chance once again to see what was left of Libertyland. I was curious as to how they were using it during the Mid-South Fair which is going on right now. What did they have in the entrance plaza? A hardcore rock band. Right in front of the entrance. Very degrading. Then you've got a nearly 100-year old coaster sitting out back untouched for nearly three years. Memphis is screwed up beyond belief. But my goal is to get inside the park before I graduate (with permission, of course). We first went to a security guard who knew nothing. Then we went to a Mid-South Fair information person who said it wasn't likely, but that I should go to the MSF office and ask. So I made the trek over there and according to them they no longer have any control of it - the Memphis Parks Commission owns it. They gave me a business card so hopefully all is not lost... Thanks for reading. This is as close to "the inside" as you can get. This was a cool shot of the Pippin. No idea who these two people are. This was the signature shot of Revolution. I believe it's now sitting in a field somewhere in Pennsylvania... They had some cool photos of Libertyland up in the Creative Arts building. This was the original Libertyland logo. You can see it in the bottom of this picture. You can see Zippin Pippin was around in 1930. It looked pretty cool. Let's see what we can find in here... The octogonal building was the season pass building. You can see Independance Station from this point. It gave me chills to see the "readmission and season pass" signs still up. All of the buildings in the park are still standing. Libertyland is still clearly visible, so I'm not sure what they accomplished my removing the letters. The entrance gate looks about the same way it did the day the park closed. (minus the Libertyland sign)
thrillerman1 Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 It is amazing how good the park still looks after 3 years of abandonment! I feel so fortunate I got to visit LL on Labor Day weekend of 2005 just a few weeks before the closing announcement. Good luck getting inside the park. Perhaps you could gain permission if it was for a school project. I'd love to see the pics from that. Thanks for sharing these photos! By the way, what happened to the carousel? Didn't it get bought?
tnguy Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Cool thanks for posting these. I really regret not getting a chance to visit Libertyland. It is interesting how so much is still standing.

The school project idea actually crossed my mind yesterday. Luckily I've got some "connections" so hopefully I can put those to use for once. The carousel was sold to the city. I think. It's changed hands a couple times but it's still inside the park.
andy_e219 Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 It looks to be in suprisingly good shape despite sitting for 3 years, hopefully the Revolution will be set up and operating at DelGrosso's next season.
