Sir Clinksalot Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Just to let you know that I've started working on some Nintendo scenery. I decided my first set should be based on Super Mario Bros. 3 as I felt the chunky NES 8-bit style would make for some interesting theming. Here is a work in progress render from inside Maya, showing the pieces I have modelled so far. There are many more to come and if anyone has any ideas for pieces, be sure to fire them at me ! I haven't decided exactly how some of the pieces are going to work in game, at the moment I think most of the block pieces will be quarter-tiles, which would allow 2 per tile edge allowing you to make a continuous platform/floor. But almost everything about hte set is up in the air, so any ideas would be great Here is a pic of the only model that has made the transition to the game, the Super Mario model. I'll keep this post updated as I add bits and pieces. You could also follow the thread on the Atari RCT3 Exchange forum here
Sir Clinksalot Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005 Do a Chain Chomp! I love Chain Chomp! I think Chomp was in Mario 3, but even if he wasn't he is really cool and you should do him anyway
Sir Clinksalot Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005 Most other enemies will make it in, Bullet Bill, Goomba's, Koopa Trooper and Paratrooper, Boomerang Bros, Bowser (King Koopa) and even Chain Chomp (not sure how to do the chain yet ) should make it in. I don't think I'll do the individual Koopa Kids though. As for other pieces, blocks that aren't shown on that WIP are the Musical Block, assorted platform blocks, the background bushes etc. I still have to finish making all these pieces then start the long process of getting them all ingame and slotting together nicely...
Angry_Gumball Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 That is cool! Can't wait for it to be released. I could actually decently theme a waterslide to Mario's pipes, or a decently themed go kart track themed to Mario Kart.
Sir Clinksalot Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005 Well, the pipes will be recolourable and there will be two pipe pieces, the pipe itself and the pipe top. This is so you can make them any height. As for Mario Kart, I never actually thought about themeing a go-kart ride (it seems obvious now ), I'm sure some of these pieces would work great for that. Hopefully I should have another pic up later with some more additions.
Sir Clinksalot Posted July 20, 2005 Author Posted July 20, 2005 Okay, so this update is MUCH MUCH later than I planned..... Sorry for the lack of updates, here is the current status of the project. I've finished all the modelling for the set unless I notice anything obvious missing. The reason for no new pictures is that I'm having texturing problems ingame. The only objects that seem to texture properly from Maya are the objects where the top/bottom texture isn't important, like the flat Mario and enemy sprite objects. For some reason the UV texture coordinates seem to be messed up when I use either Maya or Milkshape.... Other people are using Milkshape successfully though so I'm not sure what is going wrong. Luckily about 5 people are helping me figure out why the UV's don't seem to be saving correctly so hopefully I'll be able to complete the set soon. Soooo basically I haven't stopped working on it, I've just hit a snag. After this set is finished I'll probably be working on either a Starfox or F-Zero set... F-Zero would make a great theme for a launched dueling/racing coaster
MontuMan11 Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 How do you make that type of scenery like that? the mario shapes and the tunnel, the blocks, etc.
Sir Clinksalot Posted August 5, 2005 Author Posted August 5, 2005 How do you make that type of scenery like that? the mario shapes and the tunnel, the blocks, etc. You need to use a 3D Modelling package like 3D Studio Max, Maya or Blender to make the actual model then use Jonwil's Scenery Importer to get it into the game. You can find the importer on the official RCT3 forums, be warned though, it's very temperamental and is very buggy as people are still trying to figure out a bunch of stuff. And there aren't any instructions so you have to figure it out as you go. Some Free 3D Modelling packages are: Anim8or Blender Wings3D And Jonwil's Scenery Editor can be found on this thread at Atari Community. I haven't used any of those before though.
