So the 2008 season has begun, and it's time to go out and find some new places and meet some new friends!

For a change, I decided to take this Easter off, instead of doing what I normally do and work over it. It also gave the chance to get a few new credits and parks visited, and see a little bit of culture as well. So on Thursday 20th March, I drove down to meet a few friends in the south, have a few drinks before the trip really began. Late that night, I got to my Travelodge in Bournemouth, parked my car and went to bed. So far so good.

Next morning, I wake up, have breakfast, pack up my stuff and leave my hotel only to find that my car is covered in bird shit. Not a good start to the day. Then I get to Adventure Wonderland which has a credit to ride, and whilst riding, a gust of wind slows it down and it gets stuck. All the more embarrassing as I'm the only person on the ride.

Eventually I get off the ride and leave in a hurry and headed west to another credit in Weymouth. Turns out this one is exactly the same as the one I broke at Bournemouth. Luckily this one made all the way around. It was also strange to see a place that I hadn't been to for about 10 years, as I used to live in that neck of the woods. The credit is only a recent addition, when I was a kid there used to be bumper boats there instead.

With the day getting a little better all the time, I washed my car, and made it into Plymouth, where I spy a fairground with a mouse credit up and running. After cutting up two lanes of traffic, I got across the road and went into the car park, rode it, then went off to meet up with Piers.

Here's the photos...

kmg1.jpg.665d99b959a73cebd3b92b8578976f31.jpg

And after that, we headed in for the night.

kmg2.jpg.98e74d23da7a2d3f24aee1f8bc7bd2d9.jpg

We did one more before we left.

spinout1.jpg.e63fb4b0c6d74a2e5c752c0b1bbdfd54.jpg

This one looked a bit too spinny, so we passed.

wildmouse2.jpg.38c426551d8f975d6a61657b95aa65e5.jpg

But it a had a credit, so what the heck.

rainbow.jpg.87ed9a045380cadc805b0249b183b241.jpg

The rainbow's end didn't have a pot of gold. It was more like a dodgy fun fair.

piers1.jpg.8dad930c3f1a098e1ff67be74016413c.jpg

One Piers later, we decided to head back upto to the fair for another go!

terminator2.jpg.2f8ded8cb9ce0e807fb17e7c09672a55.jpg

Come with me if you want to live!

terminator.jpg.cb7b87d26a0f6e77f92b7e7bd0ad60ed.jpg

The Arnold Schwarznegger roadshow was also in town that day.

wildmouse1.jpg.ce15396dcb478fba8386fe75924e2aca.jpg

One near miss later, and I got my ride in.

homepark1.jpg.70bbe884c891549910c05ad6c6ea3043.jpg

Top tip: don't cross two lanes of traffic if you see a spinning mouse at a fair. I was lucky and didn't crash. You might not be.

carwash.jpg.92fbf22746c09ae362f2b24d7f1aa069.jpg

And here's the exclusive car wash POV.

speedy2.jpg.5ae55d84ae2f1f710e943969610fe40a.jpg

Speedy coaster was fast enough not to get stopped by a gust of wind.

leisureranch.jpg.bf1e167cdb0316d04da26119473b0801.jpg

This one didn't leave me high and dry halfway around though.

lodmoor.jpg.65517441c30a8808187f0b11a9555f12.jpg

A few hours later, I was down at an old childhood haunt.

coaster4.jpg.4e91523b47f6ccfebfcff373ba732a98.jpg

With a bit of rope and some pulling power, I was soon free to leave.

coaster2.jpg.fae7e6d40ce4c0582d18b2ae24656789.jpg

Luckily when the mechanics stopped laughing, they came to rescue me.

oops.jpg.aad44ed1f25dc6dd2df7e5d144d775b4.jpg

And here is the idiot who caused it. With a stupid photo to match.

coaster3.jpg.851512164ce70f24c29cdc64f05fc6a8.jpg

And this is it. Stuck halfway around.

coaster1.jpg.49c986cd8e35645b0c7684d428025396.jpg

And there is the credit!

advwonderlandmap.jpg.1efbd94b9b436fe80b1556e5fb204c09.jpg

Aventure Wonderland is a big indoor playcentre with some outhdoor attractions and a big maze.

advwonderland.jpg.3c717337722fa176267c5809e91d57c6.jpg

But never mind, it was time to whore some credits!

car1.jpg.00ef30105cee37353685b6ca418061c8.jpg

And this is my car after the birds had gone.

This was where I woke up on Friday morning.

Great TR so far Tom!

It's always nice to see some smaller more unknown (ok, honestly that park was totally unknown to me) parks. Really shame about the birds excrements, man, the birds must've been quite humongous when you look at the size of some the droppings.

Yay, for Terminator (1) the ride, Now where's Terminator 3-the ride and dare I say... Sarah Connor Chronicles ?-the ride

Cool, Travelodge's got a new design/font from what I saw 2.5 years back, hehe.

It's nice to see that you can "already" visit parks, I have yet to wait about a month, anyway looking forward for more pics!

Cool stuff Tom. Did some credit whoring myself last weekend so glad I wasn't the only one.

Looking forward to the next installment.

Wow, I almost forgot that I had started this trip report!

After an eventful first day and a good nights sleep, it was time to go and check out the most southerly park in England.

Flambards is described as an "experience" by its advertising, largely down to its two main exhibitions of Victorian Britain and Britain in the Blitz. There's also a aviation exhibit, indoor educational centre and function facilities. Oh, and some amusment rides catering for all ages.

The park is good for a couple of hours, but after that there's not too much to keep you there. So we left to explore the most southerly and westerly points of England.

kaleidoscope.jpg.91aa0839178cb7972ede3af3486d7e30.jpg

Whilst I post the rest of the Flambards/Lands End photos, I'll leave you with a random kaleidoscope to keep you wondering.

digger2.jpg.2afa00db3b27fffbbec9b0479f6fdce3.jpg

And then this happened.

digger1.jpg.5066f41c701785a7582b52f756851619.jpg

So I stole a digger instead.

hoverbuggy.jpg.eebfc0fd946bb9c6704a8db232dc7459.jpg

Damn. I was hoping to ride on the back of the space buggy!

piersjenga.jpg.d8984e0c810030c12511b4c5be2427de.jpg

Piers says no to counterfeit Jenga!

jenga4.jpg.0b14e2342af355212efd1b618a8fb604.jpg

So he dealt with it.

jenga3.jpg.5281cee426bd756961066f63cf7d1d5f.jpg

Piers doesn't like imitation stuff.

jenga.jpg.ec42d15591df22d1214c2124a45f67c8.jpg

Well, cheap knock-off Jenga anyway.

jenga2.jpg.f8470783f5d09ffe0ee6bb881793c95d.jpg

After the big slide drama, it was time for some party sized Jenga!

bigslide.jpg.aa980c3821263b6d07bce354cd50ed9f.jpg

This however was very real. Unfortunately this was the best picture we got due to the shape of the building. It's a vertical slide that's about twice as big as a regular one. As a result, I was terrified the first time I dropped off the edge! But once you fall, it's amazing.

saturn5.jpg.5d7da76bdb917223a8adaaf03ab4cc95.jpg

And this isn't real either.

spaceshuttle.jpg.0c5525ac6141d7658e1e4be7197b0a01.jpg

Sorry Chris, it's not a real one.

snoopy.jpg.32b26021201f1c04cb90aa81ae981052.jpg

Maybe this is the Cedar Fair area after all.

notddr.jpg.060773f3f45972017b5eadf5c08e8e8d.jpg

They don't even have a real Dancing Stage machine!

amusements.jpg.c509f9dfbb7fd2167ad64f6751210861.jpg

Tacky is the word you'll be looking for right now.

flambards2.jpg.6ace5462f48c3b4f483ed617d3237203.jpg

We went back out to see what else there was outdoors. I think this is a few trashcans short of a Cedar Fair exhibit.

spinroom.jpg.011b417bc593bb334046eb200607ed0a.jpg

The spinning tunnel was really disorientating. And very green and blurry!

shadowroom2.jpg.563d92adf0f91fef04ef86832b7b2d38.jpg

I'm still waiting on the cheque from Disney.

shadowroom.jpg.7f146e332d521896f04f6c4b09c3bc20.jpg

What follows is the very idea that inspired the shadow of the Yeti halfway round Expedition Everest.

mirror.jpg.14e9875ba025e44327a7906e84fa5d80.jpg

In one of the many indoor parts of Flambards. And this is as good as my Myspace mirror photo taking skills get.

sharktums.jpg.69e23b4d979b3e687460fc82a09234a2.jpg

Hey SharkTums! I didn't know you were moonlighting at Flambards!

rockintug.jpg.058051e36d51302689fb3f06c4a02894.jpg

Because we didn't fancy the idea of getting soaked in chilly weather, we did the Rockin' Tug instead.

logflume2.jpg.bf3331b42678ae13dc649a0d6b5bd0be.jpg

But in the flurries of rain and snow, and with the really cold weather, no one was riding.

logflume.jpg.ac55ada12bbd69d95c40714af3d5fb36.jpg

No family park is complete without a log flume.

wipeout.jpg.f9e13ef5c91fa09191333ef0979181c9.jpg

There was this spinning thing, but we declined.

pierscopter.jpg.7721b03f734427923785cfdbc44b7338.jpg

Which meant one of us had to pedal.

copters1.jpg.7b71dd3992ac879689aa620fca4c3d7e.jpg

Apart from the coaster, there's also some pedal copters.

hornet5.jpg.030c61f5bc5d4fbf8f486bd79d74dfef.jpg

Trains look very insecty too.

hornet4.jpg.a489a32a5bc33cc7d696b0701807e2cf.jpg

It was quite fun. Lots of twisting drops and tight turns.

hornet2.jpg.3ab0ba171819ec4686515f7102dc43f9.jpg

This is as far south as coasters go in Britain.

hornet1.jpg.e14ed2bde16c0d6bc61c1789880b44ab.jpg

Where else?

flambardsmap.jpg.397d9169ca03e1485dd9f62691e211bd.jpg

So, where do we start?

flambards1.jpg.64ec674ac5cc6887f0d6f6f85c63b8b7.jpg

It's the best day of the week!

More Flambards, Lizard Point, and Land's End!

landsend8.jpg.b385afef59e2d4326b7beb322e8d6892.jpg

There we go, that was a brief tour of Lands End. There's other attractions to do there, but we were off to have a few drinks. So it was time to go.

funnysign.jpg.58f1449f02c26508297432c3c316e69f.jpg

They made a funny.

poopoo.jpg.dd97d70848c996f3af5db68124ebf24f.jpg

And because it sells poop in a bag, it's also Robb-approved.

cripplecock.jpg.2471b7b763677129e55a271e2eb7c07e.jpg

It sells local ale, so it's also Derek-approved.

sugarfree.jpg.0e1e9736db6ca576a694882e7987fc68.jpg

We checked out the Dan-approved gift shop before going.

landsendsigntom.jpg.e3fad90346f8a2ac4b32cc5ca992da22.jpg

Since I was spending my money on alcohol for that night, this pic will have to do.

landsendsign.jpg.4302bbc1ee800c36445a49b0553283dd.jpg

And here it is! The famous sign. Tokyo was put on today thanks to some Japanese tourists.

landsend7.jpg.b8c16841d219e601c2acfe3ad2986785.jpg

The winds and the lack of land claimed two more victims.

landsend6.jpg.54263c1975a94a2372cc309384d4f54e.jpg

But there is a giant TARDIS just before the land ends.

landsend4.jpg.d5bbed55866319d0fe6693bfd8fd50d0.jpg

The foreign translation will tell you the same. No more land!

landsend5.jpg.49bf9a4f2f1448c47d565e10159ce180.jpg

Like I say, there's no more land! It just stops!

landsend3.jpg.15a141bfeda24dbc8bb1aad6476a31f7.jpg

Wind. Exhibit B.

landsend2.jpg.487d8327a51c575046b821180996668b.jpg

It was very windy.

landsend1.jpg.78b5f98ad2a63e014401a5e404ba2350.jpg

And here we are at Lands End. Where the land just sort of stops.

lizard5.jpg.7ffaa91d77d2096b8e846c177f266ded.jpg

This is where the old lifeboat launch used to be at the bottom of the cliffs.

lizard4.jpg.bdf7384cd84ce51e26577e1d226029c3.jpg

Cliffs have feeling too y'know.

lizard3.jpg.81811b5493ceeb3f2c64aad10469affa.jpg

Long way down!

lizard2.jpg.b1bc1573ad81a8852c6b39b62070e764.jpg

Lizard Point stretches a few miles further south than Land's End, making it the most southerly mainland point in England. Land's End is sitll the most westerly mainland point in England, so we'll go there later.

lizard1.jpg.89f572b76849e15035c164e76b112595.jpg

NOT LANDS END.

humpty.jpg.5a79c0c084cfabaded9813bee1bfb8a2.jpg

It was time to leave. But first I was hungry for scrambled eggs.

concorde2.jpg.2fa1f70c648cf9bed36ca360bcdac69f.jpg

Sadly this is the closest I'll ever get to flying aboard this incredible machine.

concorde1.jpg.f7f0c0bfb0734a5fc29f7a111e1d827a.jpg

There's also an aviation section, with a section of the Concorde prototype.

blitz3.jpg.f7d8e1b9264c6cd934a1902ae55c987c.jpg

So here's a map of where the RAF bombed in Nazi Germany.

blitz1.jpg.8aa6af92ecbc91cac76e5748ce3d46ae.jpg

The next exhibit was about wartime Britain. But I wasn't allowed to take photos inside this one.

village5.jpg.199a7de57dae6caf95f21c136c33ca1d.jpg

Good old modern medicine.

village4.jpg.0e40d94c295a79930a09e281f87b36da.jpg

And monkeys could drink in bars.

village3.jpg.9269a7adbd81d70eb15ebf3c145f39ac.jpg

Horses got tired quickly back then.

village2.jpg.3223b1130a10a552709bec2ad1243481.jpg

Nearly as old as Jeff.

village1.jpg.3e43ea927be7e3596d1c92e00a141fc2.jpg

So this shows what Victorian Britain looked like.

experiences.jpg.ee9783e90e8b530ba85ae7d8a641d33f.jpg

And now a few shots of the three indoor "experiences".

postbox.jpg.73bf8b05e331e79c99a9d4e241954725.jpg

NOT A POSTBOX.

OK, we're at Sunday now, which means that we were going to Milky Way and Crealy Adventure Park.

Milky Way is a really cool little place, it has a lot of quirky stuff that kept us very much entertained for a few hours. Big slides, golf driving nets, archery, shooting, dodgems, a maze, and alien abduction.

And that last one is not a misprint. You really do go aboard a mother ship and squeezed into a probe (don't panic, it's just a powered Batflyer, and you don't come off walking like a cowboy). You even have to crawl through a tube to ride it.

The outdoor coasters weren't open today, as one was stalled halfway round and the other wasn't built yet, but that really didn't make any difference. And Piers also confronted with one of his worst fears. Briefly...

milkyway041.jpg.272a3e2b0bf6130ff99a29d0011c2b04.jpg

Piers was thirsty. So it was time to leave.

If you answered "The ball smashed the glass blowing stall" you were wrong! Thank God.

Yep, not getting any better.
