Here is an article by Cracked which used to be the low rent Mad Magazine competitor, and is now just a website. Lots of everybody's favorites with the obligatory Theme Park Review video used from You Tube with no credit given.

[22:26] RobbAlvey: you never see us put water parks or anything on our pics for a reason.

[22:27] RobbAlvey: If you put water marks on your photos then no one will ever use them...but if you have good photos that are recognizable even without water marks, people always know where they came from.

[22:28] RobbAlvey: The water mark is the picture itself.

[22:29] JDMM71: What if someone were to claim the pics as their own? I've had it happen to me

[22:30] RobbAlvey: then that would not be cool. If it were to say "Photo by Cracked.com" then I'd send an email.

[22:30] RobbAlvey: But I really don't care if other people use our photos in an article or something.

[22:30] RobbAlvey: Now, it would be one thing is someone opened up a website with 1,000 photos and 500 of them were ours. That would not be cool.

^ Has anyone ever told you that it's really NOT COOL to post someone's conversations publically?

 

Not that I said anything I wouldn't want to have posted publically, it's just kind of a violation of privacy, IMO.

 

I'm actually VERY happy that Cracked posted the photos & the video. I was competely flattered!

 

Just like I said in that IM. It's not like someone took 500 photos of ours to create a website, or took a photo of ours and claimed credit for it.

 

It was 3 or 4 images and a link to our YouTube video for use on a very popular website. Why should I care?

 

I have never and will never watermark a photo. I don't believe it in. If your photos are good enough, the picture itself will be the watermark. Now granted, when you take hundreds of thousands of photos as we do, not every pic is a "watermark", but I would think there are certainly a number of photos we've done that are very recognizable.
