mrceagle Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 I’ll be better then normal and make this Quick. This was a Simple trip Second to Story Land this year. My brother, Sister-in –law and my self went up early to hit a few things my niece Normally doesn’t hit. We got there at 11:00 am. It was partly cloudy and A bit cold. We parked across the street so to get to the park we had to take the tunnel to the other side. Yes they built a tunnel under the road so the guests wouldn’t have to cross the street. Antique cars – The Queue has a collection of old maps going back to 1954 it’s interesting to see how the park has ground and attraction no longer there, like the sea Lien exhibit. The ride itself is good but nothing special. These are new Electric cars form Chance. There a bit underpowered for the layout and Bog going up hill. They Peddles are a bit trouble sum also. On a side not they moves Taber’s Filling station Into the car ride area as a set. It used to serve as a stage for an animatronic Heritage NH commercial. Train – We got on at the main Junction next to the car ride after checking out the Gift shop. They sell things from Wizard of Oz to Thomas the Tank Engine. It’s a great way to get around to the back of the park. Not to mention it’s a relaxing ride. We got of and Went to the Farm area: Since Farm Fillies wasn’t letting in yet my brother and I hoped on Crazy barn, which is always an enjoyable ride. Farm Fillies show - The show is Fun. The show is made for Story land so it’s very unique, very reminiscing of Disney’s Kitchen cabaret. The Animatronics were working well, much better then the last time I watched it. I even noticed that at the end there is a farmer on a tracker pulling a cart of singing pumpkins. Good to see this ride got some work. Food- I was Hungry so I grabbed fried Dough (2.53 with tax). We were going to catch the Circus World show but they changed the time and it wasn’t showing for another half hour. So we went to the entrance and waited for my Parents and nice to get there. My brother and sister in law Hit up the Pixie Kitchen for their food. They got Chicken finger, an order of fries, and a grilled Cheese sandwich (9.35) A luck would have it My parents showed up right as we were finishing up so there wasn’t much of a delay till we wee pack at rides. So we hit the Car ride again and Cuckoo Clockinspeil on out way to the coaster Poler coaster – Was running well today. Smooth the mid course brake before the helix wasn’t coming on hard nor was the brake run brakes. Always a fun ride and it’s nice to ride a coaster that is no were else in the world. It was a bit cold my father picked up a Jacked at the gift shop for $30 dollars. He had grabbed one that didn’t fit him right. They exchanged it for a new one that fit without a second thought. Bamboo Chutes - We loaded me, my father, my Sister in law and my Niece into a boat. Great ride as always but we had a lot of weight in the boat. We hit the final hill hard. I didn’t fare too well, the splash cam up over the frond of the boat and right into my lap. It left me cold for a big part of the day. We all went into the Farm are and road the trackers, I road with my Nice. We skipped Crazy barn because my nice wanted a hot dog. But before eating we hoped on the turtle Twirl. After eating we Road the Whirling whales, I had to ride alone on this terribly boring ride. My nice, who is the target audience for the ride, didn’t seem to care too much about them. But they fit well into the Sea themed area Safari – First time reigning in a while. Fun ride the collapsing bridge scared my mom. My nice had fun looking at the animals from the cadged car. But it’s a shadow of it’s former self. It used to be a Jungle cruse safari ride. Now it’s very cartoonish and not as interesting. We finished of the say with the Carousel, Swan Boats, and Pirate ship ride wise. And it was closing time. Despite being closed my nice played in the pirates play area, Little Dreamers play area, and then in the tree house before leaving. The park officially closed at 6 we left at 6:45. That ended another Magical day at Story Land. On a side not we had Dinner at the Spaghetti Shack. A family owned Italian eatery by Attitash. You might want to try it if you’re in the area.
mrceagle Posted July 16, 2007 Author Posted July 16, 2007 Photos From the trip: Since we parked across the street we took the park’s Safety Walk Tunnel to get across the street to the front entrance. Taber’s Filling station once used as a stage for an animatronic Heritage commercial has been moved into the Antique car ride area as a set piece. People being hit by one of the water effects along Dr Geyser’s Remarkable Raft Ride. The park has been built around the natural landscape of the property. It makes for a very picturesque setting. Continuing with my Menu series! The train is always the best way to get off your feet and around the park. Some areas look more like a city park then a corporately owned theme park.
burningstroller Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 That makes 3 Kennywood Entertainment parks that begin with a tunnel under a road.
Masked_Maverick Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Interesting little park but that train looks a lot like the CP&LE Railroad train or is it just me?
mrceagle Posted July 17, 2007 Author Posted July 17, 2007 Ya the tunnel is a great addition .but has been there for 13 some odd years. Long before Kennywood came in the picture. but it's strange they have that in common. The CP and LE RR is a narrow gauge I believe. This is a Chance CP Huntington but on a very rare 20" gauge.
Homer Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Story Land is a nice little park with a few nicely themed attractions. I hope Kennywood pumps some interesting new attractions into this park.
mrceagle Posted July 17, 2007 Author Posted July 17, 2007 Story Land is a nice little park with a few nicely themed attractions. I hope Kennywood pumps some interesting new attractions into this park. I'm a bit Curious to when the last time you were are the park. Over the last Few years they have expanded Greatly. adding 2 new themed areas and Increasing there ride count to 21. i also hope that Kennywood will help them expand. because anything that draws more attention to Story land will also end up helping Santa's Village. But i don't see Kennywood Turning Story land into a mega park with High end Adult attractions. if that is what your referring to?
