To install the drive, the drive usually comes with some instructions. In simple, you will probably need to set it up to pair with your existing optical drive (if you want to keep it) by setting the jumpers on the back or by simply disconnecting the old drive and replacing it with the new drive. Once it's plugged in, your system (assuming you run Windows) should detect it automatically and it should be ready to use.

The drive will also probably come with some sort of software (ie. Nero or Roxio), that will allow you to do stuff, such as burn DVD's and watch movies. It should affect any of your games if the games do what they're supposed to. (although EA games are "supposed" to crash at random)

Depending on how much usage you do with that DVD burner, I've heard some not so good things about Sony, but then again, we're burning 100 or so DVDs daily, which we stick with the NEC burners as those seem to last a while. But yea...just open up the tower, take out the face plate cover (for the drive) on the front if yours has that, slide the drive through the front and mount it into the case. Then hook up the IDE cables/power cables and you should be set. Also be sure you have one set as "Master" and the other "Slave" or else it won't work. (Usually, the top drive's the master and the one below's the slave.)

Thanks

That should really help except for the fact that it didn't come with cables. We got it free from someone and it was not opened. No cables, and no instructions. the funny thing is that it dos not look at all like the one on the box.

Will it work with the old cables or is that what you were trying to say?
