Big shout out to all my friends at Theme Park Review, It's been a while since I last posted here, such are the joys of become a grown up and studying for a law degree Truth of the matter is I get as bored with boring work as anyone and have to find ways to make life worth living. Designing coasters always helps For the last eight years one other trick for me has been to work on a novel. The great news is I have just finished writing it and it went into registered copyright on the weekend. Now at last I am able to talk about it a bit. It is called "Samuel Deksis and the Castle of the Kings" and it is aimed at Harry Potter fans who have grown up a bit. It is still a lot of fun but it deals with more mature themes like the eithics of war and so on. I think everyone here is going to love it! There is a great chapter with a flying carpet racing competition that goes out of control, how cool would that be as a ride!!! The novel is 93,000 words long, that's about 300 pages when double spaced on A4 paper. There is a facebook group which you can all join: > > > HERE < < < The novel is free to download and read the first 30 pages. If you then want to buy the rest of the novel it will cost you just £5. Please, please help me on this one guys and tell all your friends and family about it if you like it!! Oh, and here is the cover: If I see enough of you have made the effort to suppoort the book, I may be pursuaded to post an extract on the magic flying carpet section here

NL - Mild Thing
JR replied to Vffreak07's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Hey Vffreak, not a bad creation, I especially liked the station roof surround. There is a lot that you can do with supports in No Limits, but is there a point at which it becomes sloppy and a poor subsitute for 3DS work? -
Leviathan [NL]
JR replied to Steffen_Dk's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I liked the layout a lot Steffen, a really creative design. The track work really wasn't great however; it was over banked towards the end as it was travelling far too slowly to require the banking you provided. As has been noted the turn onto the brake run was awful. Think about the heart-line: the track should swing under the train and into the breaks. There was also a lot of stalling, so a faster launch may well be needed for this ride, or other changes to increase speed during inversions, or perhaps removal of some? With supports it looks messy to have a two section support and branch out in the middle, just branch of 1 support. Also add support joins like most good designers seem to be doing with free nodes and thicker tubes at the desired points. Keep up the good work! -
Dear all, As I was sorting through my laptop I realised I had a few "works in progress" which have never seen the light of day and have never been complete enough to release. At least now you will have access to them for your entertainment and enjoyment. Please do not re-distribute without credit. I think in all cases functionality was for whatever reason never up to the standard I wanted, but consider all these projects to be test runs for bigger things! Having used and downloaded don't forget to vote for your favourite to help guide others to the most interesting things. I think in all cases to leave the program hit ESC on your keyboard, other shortcuts and controls will vary. This archive will will be expanded over time. Have fun! The rush animation is especially fun! Rush Anim.zip RUSH: V3 Finally something to do with theme parks! a simple but effective 2d animation of Rush @ Thorpe park. Hit each button to get each arm swinging! Mum Anim.zip MUM ANIM: V1 We all enjoy a bit of clever character animation from time to time so check this out! Snow village.zip SNOW VILLAGE: V2 This one of the more advanced photo vector animations I have produced, hope you enjoy this one! foutain alive.zip FOUNTAIN ALIVE: V1 This is a very early attempt at water animation as I take on the challenge of making a fountain look "alive". Flash.zip FLASH: V1 Want something interesting to look at while you have some music playing? look no further! This on screen animation will keep you entertained and amazed! My alarm.zip MY ALARM: V1 Type a number of seconds in the box (during the programming time) and an alarm will ring at the end of the duration. Time must be given in seconds DYGON_360_main_player.zip DYGON 360: V5 A really cool version on my DYGON 360 program, well worth a look, and a gives a great comparison with V1. DYGON 360 main player.zip DYGON 360: V1 This is an interesting early version (the earliest I can find) of the biggest project I have undertaken, the DYGON 360 ambience generator programs. Basically similar to FLASH, but a bit more user friendly. lift.zip LIFT: V6 Probably the most advanced ride sim I have ever created, this time of slammer at Thorpe Park. I think I do have more complete versions than this one but you get the idea from it. You can even program your own ride sequence. RCJ.zip RCJ: V1 In the mood for something disco? Great with some upbeat music playing. This is my most recent work on here.

Some information that might be of interest Mystic Derell Hime is to record a live show broadcast from the Dervier Family mansion the exact location of which we cannot disclose although it thought to be near Barrington Illinois in the US. It is believed that the show will take the format of a live 'séance' similar to those that have been carried out on UK television in recent years. The show which is likely to be highly controversial is intended to be broadcast this Autumn in the US.

Zest - NL coaster project
JR replied to JR's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Full list of fiddles and fixes for Zest – Squeezed 1.5 • Re-organisation of all scenery objects to stop the track packager creating the odd desktop directory. • Bitwise optimization of all textures. • Improved jpeg compression on all textures. • Removal of all 3rd party trees except the main palm, to reduce objects with a sky high polygon count which was previously dragging frame-rates down. • Removal of older fruit 3DS objects which did not use ‘smooth’ textures. • Addition of a wider range of smoothed fruit 3DS objects. • Addition of bunches of fruit to several supports. • Addition of bunches of fruit to the main palm. • Removal of mid course block break-run. • Addition of mid course break-run. • Addition of end course block break-run within station compound. • Resizing of stations 1 and 2. • Addition of wooden barrier to end course break-run station platform area, clearly directing guests thus from the re-sized/positioned station 2 towards the exit. • Re-sizing of Zest Lamps in Queue line. • Slight change in joke order, but nothing major. • Additions of post chain fly wheels to build up train speed into first half-loop. • Re-positioning of chain lift to bring cars to rest with easier access to upper evacuation platform. • Re-modelling of all ladders to include smoothing and continuous sides, thus hiding the different sections of rungs. What has not been done:- • Removal of fly-wheels on lift and replacement with chain as suggested by some as a more realistic method of lifting, and this would thus remove the method of segment completion which allows the car to always come to rest in an evacuation position. On a ride such as G-Force I am informed that the humpty dumpty chain lift automatically returns the car to the start of the lift in a F12 (emergency stop) situation. I think we have to accept the limitations of the No-Limits simulation in that you’ll either end up stopped upside down and complain about that because the Simulation won’t reverse you back to the rotating track segment, or you’ll have a situation that would not pass safety regulations because the fly wheels don’t come to an immediate stop. In this catch 22 situation, and with time running short, I’ve left the fly-wheels and forced segment completion in place. • Any track smoothing to sort out the pumping problems. This update wasn’t really intended to sort these things out, and knew I wouldn’t have enough time to do things properly. I’m sure a lot of people will have more time on their hands than I will over the next few months so I would welcome anyone who feels the urge to do some track-work and see how much of an improvement you can make. You have my permission to upload such a track here in this thread and take full credit for the work you have done. If you are going to do it, try and make a decent job of the whole thing. No attempt is probably more use that a really half hearted one. • There has been no upgrade to the “human” model contained in the track yet. • There has been no upgrade to the gear and rope 3DS objects which continue to look amateur. Anyway, enjoy riding Zest with better frame rates and scenery than ever before – no theme comes close to being half as much fantastic fruity fun for all the family! Object Creator Question
JR replied to Giovanolafan's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Glad to say I've found the solution, and I'm pleased to share it with you; http://www.medlin.com/faqvista.htm provides a link to an executable that installs the required missing file. You must be logged in as an administrator for it to work. After installation the OC runs fine -
Object Creator Question
JR replied to Giovanolafan's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I have a different question - any way to get the OC running on Vista? I'm stuggling at the moment - getting an error '53' message, mentions something missing from this version of windows. Anyone know anything? -
Zest - NL coaster project
JR replied to JR's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
A brief update, just to say I've fixed some download links on the Zest project page: All those in the OTHER DOWNLOADS section infact. (Click Here For It) Access is therefore restored to the following features:- 1: ZEST PHOTO ARCHIVE 2. ZEST TANNOY SOFTWARE 3. ZEST SOUNDTRACK As many of us know from the Zest tannoy saga, it only really works by itself; so now is a good opportunity to check out some cool software and the lack of the optimised Zest track is of no consequence. I'm aware of all the other inactive links, but I'm working on optimization of Zest textures prior to re-uploading. Don't think I will have time to do any track work (which is a pity) as I need badly to sort out the problems with the scenery being installed in that odd directory as was happening before. Anyways, I'll let you all know what's happening as things move along. Fans of my work here may enjoy my latest project>>Here!!<< -
Utterly pointless my friend - try a pinch of creativity, I've got bags of it

Very hard to say; I'm leaving Cardiff for University College London to begin my Law degree (thanks to my straight A's at A-Level phew!) on the 22nd of September, and I can't see it being ready by then. That means it'll get pushed back quite a bit I would imagine, what with settling in, reading, and preparatory work. My projects do tend to stretch on a bit as you all know - I'd love Valhilldra to be ready for a winter release so that might become a greater priority, especially as I'm likely to miss a Halloween deadline for D : D this year. We'll just have to see how it goes! P.S. I genuinely didn't create those accounts but I do have contact with the people who are using them
-
Hey Egwin! I wondered if you’d be the first to make contact - I would ask you how things are looking down in Niflheim, but without any eyeballs in your sockets you probably can’t tell me Anyway, how’s the food tasting? Rotten fish isn’t much to my taste, but it’s probably all you’ll be getting down there for a while. There’s a rumour things have been getting a bit colder recently? Some new prisoners arrived or something? Maybe you’ve heard a bit about something going on? Now go easy on these TPR members please Mouldy, you’re riddling them something rotten with that one! You’ve frightened Vffreak07 and Giovanolafan isn’t nearly close enough to thinking outside the box. If anyone else has some ideas then get e’m up! There must be someone on here who is clever enough to see the answer! Sometimes you have to avoid trust to solve a riddle. I’m also surprised no one has asked you what you’re doing in Niflheim and even more surprised you haven’t told them, it’s not like you usually hide your crimes! Is Madame Skulking ok next door? You know, prisoner no. 665 cell 52A? The one you have a crush on. P.S. Remember to be careful, Queen Nashia may suspect something, so use your time on here wisely.

No, nothing to do with that silly movie; I haven't even seen it, and don't intend on doing so. Came up with this title long before the film was released, so any similarity is coincidental although the hype from the film seems to have generated some interest in the ride so I'm quite happy to share a similar name A couple of my Niflheim gouls have decided to join TPR because they like the sound of you guys so much, so watch out for some contact from beyond the grave in this thread real soon! Don't tell them where you live though - they might just come and catch up with you sometime, and without Odin around who knows what might happen!
