  1. Looks like a few balls and presents were won last night which has filled back up into the chimney. I watched a person hook a green ball only for it to bounce away after being dropped in the full chimney. I guess Santa's elves took the night off. Chimney is full!
  2. It looks like the Forbidden Journey is finally getting modified seats to accommodate larger guest per this article on gadling. Universal Orlando has modified some seats on ride cars for the new Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, and many people who couldn't ride the centerpiece attraction at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter should be able to now. When I saw the Wizarding World of Harry Potter during an early preview in May, the ride was not in operation, but the "test seats" outside the ride were working. Would-be riders can sit in the seat to check it out before entering the ride queue. The seats have an over-the-shoulder harness that has to be pulled down and "click" three times. You get a green light if it does, and a red light if it doesn't. After watching folks check out that seat, it was evident that the Harry Potter ride would not accommodate riders of size. But new seats were introduced over the weekend. Now there is also a yellow light on the test seats. If you get yellow, as some rounder or taller guests will, you will be asked to wait until a ride car with modified seats comes around. Theme park employees told Orlando Attractions Magazine the seats are allowing more people to ride the marquee ride: Team members we talked to said the modified seats have helped tremendously. They said before they had to turn away hundreds of guests, but over the two days since the modified seats have been in place, they've only had to turn away one guest. The modified seats are on the inside and outside positions on a handful of the ride cars. The seat itself is not any larger; it's the locking mechanism on the harness that has been changed. Universal says it is safe for both larger and smaller riders to sit in the modified seats.
  3. There has been a lot of backlash regarding the decision to install this coaster. Six Flags New England facebook page has been lit up with people complaining about it. I can see both sides of the argument. On one side you have to look at the business aspect. The park was going to install the Dark Knight and things did not work out. There was a lot of finger pointing because of it. The park blamed the town and the town stated the park was to blame for moving early with out a permit. The park pulled the plug on the attraction and lost a major new attraction that was promoted heavily. Now they have an opportunity to install a similar ride very cheaply. All they have to do is some site work prep and install the coaster. This is a logical move for the company that is just trying to right itself after bankruptcy. The park gets a “new” attraction and market it towards the family demographic. I think the biggest key here is how they will approach theming the ride. I would say it will be a big disappointment if they just plop it down and not theme it something to fit in the area. I think a lot of the disappointment that is going around is the expectation that the 50th anniversary was going to be big and that it was rumored that every park was going to get something. Again looking at the business side of things, a new management team has been installed and I think things were changed. It would be interested to see if this coaster was originally planned for the park or it was a last minute change. The speculations that I was hearing was that this coaster was going to the Great Escape possibly to fill the void the Nightmare left. I can see the disappointment that some fans have a expressed regarding the aggressive installation of family attractions and not thrill ones. Its has been awhile and you see other park in the chain get something new you start to wonder. It has been awhile since the Northeast parks (Great Escape, La Ronde, Six Flags New England) received something new and not a hand me down from another park. Hopefully this will change down the road and we will get something unique. We still have a good selection of coasters and huge water park that does eat a lot of people up during the afternoons. The park does a good job getting decent concerts that attract a lot of people. Will the decision to install a used mouse coaster prevent me from buying a seasons pass. No, as I still see the value of the pass and there are still plenty to do.
  4. I know there were high hopes for something big but this does make some sense due to the lost of the Dark Knight which was billed as a family thrill ride. Six Flags New England is pretty land locked and if there were to put something bigger in, they would have to be really creative with space, move or remove some rides. The footprint is small enough to fit in the area the Dark Knight was going to be. The times I was there, the football game they put in there was hardly being used. It will be interesting to see if they theme it to anything relating to the DC universe or just plop it down as is.
  5. I have been a long time lurker and I finally decided to join in on the fun and the discussions. Living up here in Vermont I visit Six Flags New England and the Great Escape a few times a year. I noticed this posted on the Six Flags New England Nation web site: In 2011, we're adding a 10th coaster to our already amazing arsenal of thrill rides. The new ride will be located in the DC Super Hero Adventures section and will offer an all new coaster adventure to delight thrill seekers of every age. The experience begins when you board the four-person coaster cars and start a 5-story climb towards the sky. Once you reach the top of the lift hill, your world is sent spinning and twirling through a maze of 17 hairpin turns, winding twists and turns and unexpected dips while careening along 1,213 feet of track. Stay tuned — more info and the name will be announced soon! Sounds like this "new" coaster is going to be located in the area where the Dark Knight was suppose to go a few years ago before it was pulled out and sent packing. Does this sound like the Road Runner Express that was removed from Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom?
