  1. The reason the trim doesn't line up there is because these are pretty much Mark V monorails with new nose cones, aka front and rear cars. Despite the inner 3 cars being rehashed Mark V's, they have supposedly been reworked as far as the windows go and all of the electric mechanisms and interior components have been replaced and/or completely overhauled.

Although I would've preferred that Disneyland spent the money and got truly new MVII monorail chassis, the way Walt Disney World got *really* new MVI's, it's a more than welcome change and update. The retro styling of the nosecones and the metallic red paint instead of the Mark V white paint with color-coding stripe is beautiful.

This is what a Disney refurb should be about, taking something old and making it as "new" as possible. Great work!

  2. Ok, say you just spent a ton of cash customizing a really sweet car and you have a great rep for custom work. Now, you let the 2 guys take a spin in it on 2 different occasions, and both times it comes back from these guys with seat-belt problems. Nobody else who's driven the car has had problems, and you know you've installed the belts right and maintained them well. Then, on top of this, those 2 guys film the problem and say you do crappy unsafe work and the car sucks, niether of which is true. Wouldn't you be upset and ban them from driving the car after all the time, money, and work you put into it?

McFly...you didn't tell me your car had a blind spot! And now look, who's going to pay for this? I spilt beer all over my tie!

B&M coasters are some of the most reliable and safe roller coasters out there, and do restraints get stuck...I'm sure it happens once in a blue moon but I have never seen a B&M restraint not unlock in the station when supposed to. On Arrows it happens a lot, that's why the foot pedal is there, but these two idiots are not free of guilt and did themselves more harm than good by filming the incident. The restraint operated as it was supposed to, and it locked when it was supposedly tampered with. The only people for blame here are the two morons, who put themselves in the lousy position that they are now in, a no-trespassing order.

  3. Thanks again guys...and Derek, in no way did I intend for my original to make me sound like that at all; it's my first day off in about 3 weeks from lifeguarding (Nassau County's understaffed this year) and my family has had this planned ever since they knew I was getting the day off. They asked me yesterday if I would still want to go even in the bad weather...I didn't want something that would be enjoyable for me end up being unenjoyable for them.

I hope I'm no rotten egg...

  4. Hey guys, just a quick question for the GADV locals. I live out on Long Island and was planning to go to GADV tomorrow (8/26) with my family for the day...but the current weather report is saying 30-40% chance of thunderstorms and precipitation. For me, a chance of rain is a chance of rain, and it doesn't really bother me. It's a two plus hour drive out to Jackson, and really didn't want my family to end up stuck in the rain, so I was wondering what exactly Six Flags management does if it thundershowers briefly; are there enough places to truly "take cover," do they re-open everything as soon as the storm has passed, etc. For those of you who have taken chances on days like this by going to GADV and other parks please let me know how it turned out...I don't want to mess this up for my family because I'm the one really pushing to go. Thanks!

  5. Last night my parents asked what we should do on my day off from work, and my dad had mentioned something about Connecticut. First thought, let's check out TPR and see what parks are in CT and if they have good reviews. Let me just say this, Lake Compounce lived up to the strong positive reviews I've read from Robb and the infamous Guy Koepp; the park had FAST, efficient, and friendly ride-ops and was rediculously clean. It was well-worth the two hour drive from Long Island.

Zoomerang-It's a Vekoma Boomerang...that's all that needs to be said.

Wildcat-It was decent...one train operation, not really exciting at all and doesn't really make use of its somewhat tall first drop.

Boulder Dash-Freakin' awesome, probably the best wooden coaster I've ridden until I ride El Toro later this summer. It easily could rip Hershey's Wildcat and Lightning Racer to shreds, it was that good. Only complaint...it's a bit rough, and it's rumored to be getting Hershey Wildcat's old trains next year. Save the cash and buy the new MF style PTC trains arriving on the market soon, it would probably make a great ride even better.

I'll let the pictures do the talking...

All in all, it was a great trip...a beautiful well-sized park with an amazing wooden roller coaster in the form of Boulder Dash. Rumor has it a spinning coaster for one of the upcoming seasons, but what they could really use is a good and forceful B&M invert that weaves its way through the mountain. Expensive, yeah. Worth it, yeah...it would be the only B&M invert from New York to LaRonde. Thanks for reading and looking...until next time, "Let's do that again!"

And right as I step out of the park...it begins to thunderstorm and downpour...AGAIN! Perfect timing on my exit though...

    Compounce33.JPG.eb543ad3f18f8cc4afa3560cef5eb77a.JPG

On the way out, a little history lesson. "Let me hit you with some knowledge, LeFleur!"

    Compounce32.JPG.85bead89e54feb38753bdb14646acdf7.JPG

One of the amazing perks of Lake Compounce...free Pepsi in 12 ounce cups ALL DAY LONG. You can't beat that, and even their marketing guys are probably going WHY CAN'T WE CHARGE $4.50 FOR THAT!?!?!

    Compounce31.JPG.3ca6da58b8fabe43e788f435ec1adf06.JPG

So they had Flyers...in a strange overly-patriotic paint scheme. They were okay, could've had a red white and blue scheme with less...I'M A FLAG!

    HelpDad!.jpg.50ef8c5060492c0a42a906b23f80011f.jpg

    This one's all yours Robb.

    Heh...well that's interesting.

These electric Corvettes were new for the season, and were really nicely crafted...made to look like '58 Vettes.

    Compounce27.JPG.566a92815184c03129e753b7e18d75b7.JPG

But within the next 45 minutes once it was done severely thundering and lightning, literally 5 minutes after the storm stopped, things were testing and ready to go again. Lake Compounce pretty much owns to the point of deserving the Lou's boob credit...the coveted credit rarely achieved by men other than Robb and Indiana Jones.

Really pissed off! He was probably mad that he didn't make the list of stereotypes on that napkin...

Around 3:30...this cloud decided to get pissed off.

From Vekoma to Arrow...c'mon now, can't beat the level of quality. This was actually a very good flume, the SawMill Log Flume.

    Compounce23.JPG.c6e324dfcade02c6480c442547456718.JPG

Speaking of the View...no Rosie please, why does Zoomerang photograph so nicely!?!?! Oh, and ironically, the train had the Vekoma logo inbetween the headrests...just to remind you the pain you'll experience in that cobra roll when your head meets the Fockers and the headrests.

    Compounce22.JPG.b0a1603295f8b1457945e0fce27e9e1d.JPG

    It provides quite a view!

As I digress...the 30 minute Sky-Ride Finding Nemo Submarine Expedition Up the Matterhorn.

10,000 points to Lake Compounce for great operations, 5,000 points a piece to Colin, Ryan, and Wayne, and 300,000 points to Richard Simmons.

    Compounce20.JPG.dc07b7c79f88bc65c3de5f6f46092b27.JPG

And now the yellow train was up and running too, so the ride was practically a walk-on all day. Amazing operations and great ops, you know what that means?

    Compounce19.JPG.161d66f404420e19cbdc6a17ac111726.JPG

Ejector airtime...this coaster doesn't lose pace at all as its constantly weaving in and around the mountain side.

Anyways...back to the best attraction at the Lake, Boulder Dash!

My first S&S Screamin' Swing, here it's called Thunder and Lightning...it's a pretty awesome ride, I just wish it had a longer cycle.

    Compounce16.JPG.de0c1fd0864e6a9101a06e05c366935c.JPG

Ghost Hunt was decent, better than my home park's (Adventureland LI) Haunted House, but nothing truly jawdropping. It was something to do.

    Compounce15.JPG.bc3fe7ed56d2551e582f226ef09e0555.JPG

Quite possibly the worst pre-show ever created...and it loops every 5 minutes for your enjoyment.

Nearby is a Huss Enterprise, haven't rode one of these in a while because Great Adventure got rid of theirs for no good reason...

This is where the fun ends and poor engineering begins...upstop wheels that don't make contact until right about now.

    Compounce12.JPG.3e43ffc12ee4159bf884593e0e58eee2.JPG

Personally, it's a slight step above Hersheypark's Sidewinder. My guess is only because it's slightly newer and has one of the more recent Vekoma trains.

    Compounce11.JPG.8a6834e4c91522763cd13357a400ff01.JPG

The wheels say the name that speaks Dutch quality...Vekoma. And that's Jaws, according to the ops.

You know who this is for...if you don't, e-mail Dan some Splenda and a poncho and he might respond.

A lot of ejector airtime and makes great use of its terrain!

    So good...

There it is...Boulder Dash! And you know what, I think that "Through the trees!" has been slaughtered to death by 15 year olds lately, so we'll just say Boulder Dash on the lift.

Ah, a Wurlitzer organ...you can't really beat that.

They have a really old Carousel, built in 1911, that has 49 horses and one GOAT. Just as I was about to take a picture of the goat a lady the size of Raspucia from Norbit flattened him to pieces.

Fast forward about two hours, and I finally arrive to this very pleasant site...Lake Compounce!

So, this morning I woke up to loud hammering and saw this. Where's the politically incorrect racial stereotype napkin when you need it...

I figured I might as well start things off properly...

  6. 1955-Opening year of Disneyland

1960-Opening year of Freedomland U.S.A. (NY had a theme park!)

    1964-The New York World's Fair

1965-Disneyland's 10th Anniversary, Walt still walking the park.

1970-Adventureland Long Island open for 8 years, old pictures make the place look gorgeous.

1985-Disneyland's 30th Anniversary, a good era for Disneyland as a lot of today's highlight attractions were still *fairly* new.

1992-SF Great America to ride the first B&M invert, Batman the Ride.

1995-Opening of The Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland.

  7. That was a really great PhotoTR, and some of the best pictures I've seen of Busch Gardens Williamsburg...I doubt I'll ever get used to calling it BG Europe. They have great maintenance and everything for the most part, every season, looks freshly painted and very well kept. What struck me most was the cleanliness of their flumes, Escape from Pompeii and the other-one-whose-name-escapes-me. They look gorgeous and very clean, and I'm going to assume they're chlorinated and skimmed often. I know SFGadv, Hersheypark, and my hometown Adventureland Long Island all have flumes and they have DISGUSTING WATER. As a lifeguard I know how hard it is to keep water looking that clean, and huge props to Busch and their crew for keeping their water rides that immaculate. I don't even remember WDW's or DL's Splash Mountains looking that clean...

  8. Batman and Robin the Chiller originated in dark blue and red when it opened, it was repainted last off-season to the new black and red scheme. If anything, Batman's new train would be getting the paint change from red to black. One of Robin's trains last year suffered some damage, and Batman's train was painted red and moved to the Robin track because the Batman side didn't have enough working LIM's to operate. What was probably meant by the information that whatever Op, manager, sign, Churro vender said to you is that the new train for Batman (the old train for Robin with its last car from Robin's old Batman train's last car) is getting painted black to match the Batman scheme for that side of the coaster.

It's a little complex...but pretty much, I think you meant to say that Batman's new train is getting painted black, that is if anything is getting painted at all, not the entire coaster because it already is.

EDIT: Sorry, the guys above me posted the same thing as I was typing up my post.

  9. I was waiting in line for Kingda Ka last summer with my friend for FOUR AND A HALF HOURS...and when we finally got around to the section near the lockers where they hold you up before sending you into the station the ride goes down as a train makes it only three-quarters of the way down the launch track and comes to a slow, grinding halt and then proceeds to rollback. This crazy little-english speaking foreign exchange op (FEO...not related to FEZ from That 70's Show) tells us, "It could be closed for one minute, it could be closed for one hour, it could be closed FOREVER!" I knew what he meant, but his coaster knowledge was pretty low, yet it's still funny how the general public buy EVERYTHING an op says. "Go talk to the Dippin Dots guy over there about our 2017 plans..."

So, a half hour a later, the mechanic walked the launch track and pulled a toupee out of the launch track area where the cable rests in the sleeve...apparently in the on-ride photo of the previous train some guy had his hair in the launch picture but was bald in the picture they take on the way back to the station while going over the camel hump...BUSTED!

  10. Another awesome trip report...and I'm especially loving the updates on Chiller. I'm sure your sources are pretty right about the switch from 5 trains to four standard on both sides, but looking at the pictures, it looks like Robin's train has silver dots running along its side and Batman has all black dots. It's not a big deal to me and I'm sure it's not to anyone else, as long as the thing is running again, but I mean if you look really closely, it doesn't even look like the size of the dots match up right. Also, the last car (3rd car) on Batman's side doesn't look complete, it's probably just the cover going over the seats in the back of the car hasn't been added yet, but I really don't know if the last car from Robin would be the perfect fit for the Batman train. I'm just hoping that the main guts of the two trains are near identical enough to work out by taking one off Robin.

As long as it runs again (and doesn't have more problems than it has in its 9 years of existence)...

...and the Airplane! reference with the tiger...very nice!
