  1. This time of year, all the shows have a very Religious Christian undertone to them (I have seen people get up and complain and leave due to this) so just a heads up on that! But then again, Dollywood has never sugar-coated Christianity in anything they do which has never bother me (even have a Bible verse as you enter wild eagle) but I know this type of stuff bothers some so just a warning to those who might not be into that type of thing.

Undertone? It's overt and in your face.

Exactly what I'd expect given the Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame and Museum in the park, the Kingdom Heirs (longest continuous act there, dating back to 1977, Silver Dollar City days ), and the annual Southern Gospel and Harvest Celebration.

It's not like country music doesn't have strong religious ties, and Dolly never recorded gospel albums.

That said, I never noticed the bible verse at WE.

  2. Hard to find a gem of a spot on their old route, I'd imagine the new one is the same.. unlike Disney, they leave the route painted on the ground

I haven't seen the Christmas parade in a few years, but the last parade I saw they put up white (Dollywood logo) tape along the route. I think the paint was still on the pavement, but I think they were following a different route.

Then again, I may be totally confused and wrong.

As to good places to be, with young kids I'd go to the intersection of the main street (that runs past Showstreet, the bakery, and the candy shop) and the road to Chasing Rainbows and the Tour bus. Or the benches in front of the candy shop.

  3. 1. What is the best hotel to stay at in the area?

I started to post something like that, then decided to go a different route.

Certainly not a bad choice. And free shine right there at The Island.

Not even far to stumble/crawl back to the room.

  4. When you take into consideration that it is also what is causing all or at least most of the troubles with the coaster, it makes the decision to go with the launch even more questionable.

The launch being the source of the problems is all speculation. Multiple people have stated it's not the launch system.

Only if RMC/Dollywood make an official statement will we really know, but I expect many here would still claim it was the launch anyway. They just can't fathom it being anything else.

  5. The Skillet sandwich was really tasty at the time... but I think I may have ended up with food poisoning from it,

Next time, however, I WON'T be getting the Skillet meal! [emoji38]

Having eaten at the Big Skillet (both sides) multiple times with my wife and kids, plus never hearing another similar report, I'm inclined to think it's something else.

To go with that my wife and daughter were there for Dolly's concert last week (Tues and Wed) The both were sick after, ended up being respiratory infections when they got checked Sun. And their traveling companion picked up strep.

My friend ate there at the exact same time, and was fine. So it's possible it was something else. Regardless, it will always be associated with that sickness for me now. I still haven't eaten coleslaw again since I had a bad experience with it as a kid. Can't even smell the stuff now without feeling sick. Besides, the skillet meal was tasty, but not anything special in my opinion. Now the Cinnamon Bread? That's a different story!

My daughter had a similar experience with crab. But she was already sick (runny nose, cough). Took a year or so to get her to eat it again. Now she never says no to crab.

  6. 1. What is the best hotel to stay at in the area?

The DreamMore of course. Includes park tickets, TimeSaver at the park, free shuttle to park (and free parking at hotel)

    I prefer cabins to hotels.

Lits of good choices in both categories.

    Also some good condo options.

What are you looking for? Price range?

I've never wished I had the TimeSave in March (spring break period).

Honestly I'd go to TH first and loop around to finish with LR. The rest may be a let down right after LR

But starting from LR, there's more along the way heading up Craftsman Valley.

(Barnstormer, Slidewinder, Daredevil Falls though the last may be closed when you are there, same for River Rampage)

But if you go to TH first, then you end up coming down the Valley to good food or head to the Fair and train.

    My thoughts on seats:

WE is great in the back while the front is best for the flight experience. Also ride both sides as there's a notable difference.

TH and TT I prefer the back.

FC is better in the front for the fireworks.

MM front for similar reasons, but no choice on it (never hurts to ask, especially if a slow day).

  7. The Skillet sandwich was really tasty at the time... but I think I may have ended up with food poisoning from it,

  8. Someone mentioned going around thanksgiving on here and I just wanted to mention, the park may be extra crowded that day because they're having a Christmas if Many Colors Red Carpet premier, and my best guess is the cast is going to be there including Dolly.

Dunno about the red carpet premier on the 22nd, but she has a Concert on the 15th in Pigeon Forge.

That gets her in the area to be in the parade premier on the 16th. She'll probably appear at all of the new Christmas shows too.

She's usually there for the start of anything new.

  9. Cool thanks, yeah I saw it on desktop shortly after I posted this but never came back to update.. it wasn't on the mobile site earlier today but looks like it is now.

Pretty good deal if you plan on bringing friends!

Being 5 hours away, trips are usually more than one day, and seldom during the period the BAF tickets are good for.

I wonder if they are tied to a specific pass or group of passes?

They say non-transferable, and they are coded, but only the order number ties them together.

Nothings says a particular one goes with a particular pass.

I'd be happy to give mine away (as they never get used) to another pass holder, but I don't know if they would work.

  10. Anyone else get the email titled "renew now and get 3 bring a friend tickets"

In the email it just says renew now and bring a friend this Christmas.. click here for more details

When I click it just goes to the ticket order page and says the same thing.. NOTHING about 3 tickets..

It's there. Look down in the pass info, past the prices.

    Exclusive 2016 Christmas Bring-A-Friend pass

2017 spring and fall Bring-A-Friend passes

That's 3, just they are valid for different time periods. Notice, none are for Summer.

(I'd have to look up my stuff form last year to get the approximate dates.

After Nov 22 you no longer get the Christmas 2016 BAF.

The SuperPass adds a BAF for the water park.

EDIT: last year only one BAF for the park, was good Apr 20 - May 20.

The BAF for Splash was good through May 21-Jun 10

I didn't notice then, but I don't see the BAF for Christmas even though I ordered before the cutoff date.

I've never been able to use them anyway

  11. Sorry to break the discussion here, but has anyone been to Dollywood around thanksgiving time? What are crowds usually like? As I am contemplating going if Lightning Rod comes back up. Thanks!

Been there the week of and weekend after Thanksgiving a few times.

Not too bad , but more crowded than in March or early April.

Ride lines aren't too bad if it's cooler.

The shows tend to stay busy and the indoor restaurants are crowded. Everything indoors is.

But, if the temps stay up, then it's a good crowd everywhere.

  12. Looks like the price increased again at least on gold? Gold pass $152 (last year it cost me $144)

Looks like regular pass stayed the same.. $99 and I paid $99 for it last season

Also a online payment fee of $4 now maybe they started that last year, I can't remember though

Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

Hmm, I had 5 passes last year, so there was a discount for 4+ ($5 off each same this year)

    $90 for park pass ($95 for 1-3)

    $137 for super pass ($142)

$182 for super gold pass ($187)

That was in early Nov using the renewal link the sent via email.

Gold pass was $42 extra over the regular pass,

which would been $142 (or $147)

DW pass to Super Pass was $47 more.

It was the first time I did payments, but there was a $2 per pass setup fee.

Are you saying some other fee for paying online v/s in person at the booth or over the phone?

  13. Tailspin Racer will become Splash Country’s tallest attraction next year, and will allow guests to race each other side by side.

Trying figure out how a 5 story slide is the tallest. Fire Tower Falls is 70ft.

Maybe it has to do with where it is in the park. Like if it's built on elevated land that would make it taller.

Then Fire Tower Falls wouldn't be the current tallest. Several rides have a higher elevation (above sea level)

  14. We also did the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster as well. I liked it, although, thanks to the trims, it wasn't as "out-of-control" feeling as I was expecting. Still fun, but the $15 price tag is a bit steep.

Same day re-rides are cheaper though. Just show your ticket from earlier. You can even rotate the ticket between people.

TH could use a renovation, and with LR running it might happen. Still not as as rough as many woodies I've been on.
