Yeah I totally called that. I'm not too worried since the first hill will be unaffected and by the looks of the videos, they could burn off a LOT of speed with that trim and the last two hills would still deliver solid air. Plus, if the ride was TOO good then it would just suck even more that every reride will cost you ten smackers.

I find it worth a full day but it can get crowded especially on july 4th I hate to ask this but how crowded are we talking? If it's going to be like a two hour wait for BD then I'm not sure we'll bother. -

I am planning a possible combo trip of here and Six Flags NE on July 4th weekend. I know I can probably expect major crowds at SF (mainly going there for Bizarro) but I was wondering how crowded this park gets, and also if it's worth a full day. It seems surprisingly small given how old it is (super psyched for BD though). -

Yeah totally agreed. People get confused by the sensation of intensity on wooden coasters. Similarly people find voyage to be rough, when it's actually just intense. Lightning race does may be "smoother" but it's also pretty forceless. Wildcat is a much more thrilling ride in my opinion. I disagree. Wildcat has a great, speedy layout, but it is also simply rough, there is no getting around it. Compare it to Twister at Knoebels to know what a forceful, lateral-filled ride is supposed to feel like. Also, if they'd do the complete retracking WC so badly needs it would run faster and be even more intense. -
Mean Streak. What to do with it?
neil009 replied to CPSFMMCW's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm honestly surprised how many people have stated in this thread they don't care how many wooden coasters CP has. You can say what does it matter what it's made out of as long as it's a good ride, and you'd have a point, if steel and wood coasters offered exactly the same experiences. A park on the level of CP should strive to have as diverse a coaster line-up as possible. Having one wooden coaster and 16 steel would be ridiculous, of course they should build another quality wooden coaster, if not in Mean Streak's spot then somewhere else. It's not arbitrary, wooden coasters offer a unique thrill that many of us happen to like. -

Really, I mean let's be realistic here. The Boardwalk isn't going anywhere and neither is Lightning Racer, at least not any time soon. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if before that happens they rebuild the arena somewhere else and use that area to expand. If anything, maybe since people are so gaga over water slides, they'll turn the new land they're getting next year into a second water park, something more exotic and jungle-themed. Ug, I think I'm going to have nightmares about that tonight. Within 100 years every coaster in the country will be ripped out and replaced with a freakin water slide... nobody ever complains about the restraints on water slides... -

Are we positive those footers can't possibly be for a wooden coaster? I don't know anything about it, just wondering if that's really true. From the clues I was really starting to lean towards a GG or RMC with multiple inversions. Also, with all the many many pictures of clouds, I'm betting the name or theme of the ride will have something to do with the sky. -

Has any park ever relocated a major wooden coaster from one side of the park to the other? Like, ever in the history of amusement parks? -

Oh it runs like garbage, year after year, and there's no reason for it to be that way, IF they were intending to keep it long term, which I doubt. I don't mind my coasters rough and enjoy it a lot, but when I see people coming off of it looking like they'll never ride it again, I can hardly blame them. I agree the location is an issue, but it's not like they're the only rides back there, you've also got the wild mouse, whip, musical express, and a few others. Assuming you count LR as one ride then I'd say it gets at least twice the ridership of Wildcat since I usually wait a bit longer for it and it has double the capacity. IMO LR is also just too good a ride to remove, it's unique and they use photos of it in a lot of their advertising, it perfectly fits their image of a high-class family park. I don't see them iron horsing Wildcat, not enough for them to market (no records to break, etc). I think the best thing for them to do is clear it out and build a new, better coaster to draw the crowds back to that side of the park and to LR. That's my personal prediction, if the next major coaster installation doesn't go in that spot, then the one after that will. I mean keep in mind, Hershey is VERY short on space. Also, a brake-less Comet would potentially be one of the best wooden coasters in the world, but unfortunately we won't see that happen in this or any other lifetime. -

Where'd you hear that? If they remove Trailblazer before Wild Cat I'd be shocked. It fills in an important spot in their coaster line-up and what else would they do with that hilly heavily forested terrain? Wild Cat, as much as I love it, is on a big clear plot of land, is allowed to sit in relative disrepair, and is overshadowed by two much more popular woodies. -

^^Glad you gave Skyrush the chance to grow on you! You didn't miss much with Trailblazer. You must not like Wild Mice because theirs is one of the best. Fun fact, the white stuff they sprinkle on the kettle corn is not crack, it's actually sugar. Lots and lots of sugar. Personally I don't see the big deal but lots of people can't get enough of it so what do I know? -

I interpreted this differently. I interpreted it as the ride is massive or intimidating, so the riders are doubting their decision to ride. This seems more likely to me, especially because all along we've been assuming "the children" are us enthusiasts, and it doesn't say the children are having doubts. Plus, remember when she talked about having trouble staying upright, she also said "The children laugh and clap their hands." We will not be disappointed by this announcement. I agree that this whole site is mainly for the sake of enthusiasts and there's no way they'd bother going to all this trouble if it wasn't something big. -

The Dread Sovereign would be the most badass name for a coaster pretty much... ever. -
They're really not... on a Saturday in the summer the longest you'll wait for anything is 45 minutes except for Superman and SORA because of their capacity. We almost always go on Saturdays in the summer because we don't get too many days off from work and we always have a great time even without a Flash Pass. Fright Fest is a nightmare but that's the case in most parks. Yeah, more like 45 minutes minimum on any major coaster. It would seem our experiences have been exact opposites. How intriguing.

I said the park doesn't need CP level operations most of the time. I work at the park. There's a huge difference in attendance between Monday through Thursday verses Friday through Sunday. We receive extra staffing on super busy days but most of the time, the staffing we have is sufficient for the crowds we receive and wait times at all rides never go above an hour. I've seen lines at CP reach an hour and a half on a Monday in May where as rides like Bizarro have station waits during the week. My only point is that SFGAdv is understaffed, because they're cheapskates. If you disagree, then we'll have to agree to disagree. Whether the understaffing is due to bad decisions made in the present or in the past (resulting in their current financial state) is beside the point. One thing is for sure, lines on weekends during peak season are abysmally bad. Perhaps the rides receiving four attendants who would normally have two would run a little faster if the four attendants were more used to working together as a team. Just a thought.

^The ride may go up at some points, but it will mostly be going down. The point is, regardless of how the speed is controlled, as long as it's circling the tower it won't be able to stay above a certain speed, say, 40 mph, for more than a few seconds at a time. And it can't reach those speeds all that often or you'll be spending most of the ride pressed into your seat getting sick. It'd be like riding Mission Space 500 feet in the air. Personally I'm not that excited that Alan Schilke is involved, if he is actually designing it. Consider for a moment what his designs for RMC are most often praised for: Relentless pacing - It won't have that, for reasons described above. Unexpected pops of ejector airtime - It won't have that, since that requires speed, and as I said, the faster you go around the tower, the more banked the track will be and the more you're pressed into your seat, not out of it. It can have minor airtime, but you'll have to be going pretty slow for the radius of the turn to not counteract the negative gs you're going for. Tight, rapid-fire directional changes - It definitely won't have that, or directional changes of any kind, seeing as there's only one direction it can go: around. Around and around and around in circles. Wait, inline twist into a half loop, now it's going around and around in circles the other way!! Yeah. I'm ready to accept this for what it is, a gimmick. A hell of a gimmick, possibly, but like its strata coaster brethren, not a particularly substantial coaster. That would require going, like, some direction other than around and around and around. -

The thing is, there will have to be trims about every 100 feet or so (vertically speaking), and that's being generous. Because of the nature of the ride you're constantly turning, so the faster you go, the heavier the positive Gs will get. Imagine a ride where every time you pick up any serious speed, you hit a trim or a block brake and slow way down again. True, you have the added thrill of being so high up, but that'll only last for the first few elements. This is why people are skeptical. It might still be a fun ride, but it'll definitely be an interesting design challenge. Any element you have, any airtime hill, whatever, must be done while also turning.
