  1. Trip Report 7.17.22.  First Impressions of WW:FOC

Got into the park at 5:30pm yesterday. Headed straight to WW:FOC and the inside queue was full but that's it. Took about 17 minutes to get on.

    IMG_9356.thumb.jpeg.61f7ac904a1ca311e3b58f0c6dcf1599.jpeg

After this I got rides in on TC, Scream!, Tatsu, Ninja, and strolled around the park at sunset before returning to WW at 7:30, where I got on 7 times in just one hour. The wait was never more than half of the inside during this and the line was constantly moving. I was big dizzy after my 7th straight, so I headed back to TC to re-calibrate my senses.

In total, I got 8 rides on WW. Rows 1, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, and twice in the back.

My back row rides were my favorite for sure. The drop was insane and the whole ride was just so fun. Loved being whipped over all the elements. I will say there is more of a rattle in the back than the front, but we are talking about a super minimal rattle, certainly nothing to take away from the awesomeness.

Something interesting to note here. On my last ride (row 1), they ride-stopped us on the lift hill. A team member ran up the lift, told this kid to put his phone away, ran back down, and restarted the lift. Whole thing took no longer than 3-4 minutes. It was interesting to see them paying such close attention to loose articles on this ride. I appreciate it, although I can see it being a little frustrating if you are in line and it is slowing things down. Of course, this is not the park's fault anyway. They do a good job at reminding you no loose articles.

My thoughts: Wonder Woman is the perfect addition to the park. A fast-moving line, smooth, super fun experience that appeals to just about everybody, and a ride that feels unlike any other in the park. I was worried about it feeling slow, or too much like TC, but alas I was pleasantly surprised in pretty much every way. The pacing on this thing is exceptional. Thankfully that MCBR is not on as that would really damper the experience. I am so happy to have this high capacity attraction at the park and will be going on this multiple times a visit. 9.5/10 addition for the park. Would be a 10, but...IMG_9364.thumb.jpg.c0f2536cae431533b824e3d3f266064f.jpg

    RIP Green Lantern!

My only gripe: The queue. I do not care that they opened the ride in an unfinished area (DC). I am happy it is open. But, the floor in the queue was a complete mess, people were peeling the paint off the walls, and that room is a literal hot box. The locker situation is not *terrible*, just pretty bad, and is also very ugly IMO. The slight attempt at theming is fine, but again the rest of the mess is a bad look. The locker situation is also set up for people to easily cut back to the front of the line after getting off which is a shame. The loading platform itself is pretty cool though with the moving trains.

Thank you RMC for bringing two world-class coasters to Magic Mountain in the last 7 years.

I can't rank it above TC or X2, but it might be giving Tatsu a run for its money. Time will tell.

^Was in the park today... no noticeable movement on Lex.  Tatsu is getting there, but not sure when it'll be completely finished.  Superman was up today, but only forwards side.

And FYI, at the very moment, the walkway between Tatsu and WCR/Apocalypse is closed due to painting.

The new bathrooms going up behind the Flashpass office already have walls up.

Just FYI for those going soon, the walkway opens and closes throughout the day, as I have seen it closed it the morning, open in afternoon, closed again, and opened again in the same day. all depends if they are going back to finish the top of the lift or not.

We went to the park on Sunday and Montezooma, Xcelerator and Supreme Scream were all open! (the website said Xcelerator and Supreme Scream would be closed). Xcelerator only had one train onsite (thought it had two at one point?) and Supreme Scream only had one tower operating so Fast Lane was a lifesaver. The log ride was still closed for refurb.

Quick thoughts from a first time visitor:

    - Loved the charm of this park....definitely better atmosphere than some of the other smaller cedar fair parks. I loved how there seemed to be coaster track everywhere interacting with the paths.

    - Park was packed! Lines for food seemed to be pretty painful all day and looked like all the ride queues seemed to be an hour+. I'd probably even get Fast Lane on a slower day here since most of the coasters seem to be pretty low capacity and the loading procedures seem to skew towards FL. Loved that there was that TGIF's right out front that was basically empty and much easier to get beers lol.

    - Coasters:

    1. Hangtime - 3x - Surprise of the day. Much better than I was expecting, probably my favorite in the park! 8.5/10
    2. Ghostrider - 3x - Great traditional woodie. I feel like these are becoming rarer and rarer with all the RMC-ing and gimmicks going on with older woodies. Still riding very smooth after the retrack. Only slight disappointment is I thought there would be more airtime. 8/10
    3. Xcelerator - 2x - Probably the best launch I've ever ridden and actual airtime going over the tophat! Easily put this above Kindga Ka and TTD. Length is the only issue with these rides. 8/10
    4. Silver Bullet - 3x - I was expecting this to be at the bottom of my B&M inverts list and...... it didn't disappoint in that regard. That's not saying its a bad ride by any means but it just doesn't seem to do much. I understand why that first drop has to be so shallow but man what a terrible way to start lol 7/10
    5. MR - 1x - happy I got to ride this in its original form before the refurb. The standby line seemed pretty brutal as half of the seats were roped off and they reserved every 3rd train for FL. 6.5/10
    6. Sierra Sidewinder - 1x - went on this one after a few beers which was not the best idea. I think this might have been the only spinner I've been on so not sure how it compares to the Gerstlauer ones. Seemed like a pretty solid intermediate coaster. 5.5/10

Had a great time. Pretty easy trip from San Diego so hopefully will be back next year for the giga!

Awesome. Xcelerator is going through a refurbishment that is why there is only one train, for most of the season it has been running two trains (prior to the re-paint).

^I'm pretty sure it's been closed even before we got our rains.  And we may be headed to nearly a month closed, so it seems like it'd be more than the rain.

Yeah, it was closed a lot before the rain. On my last visit a little over a month ago it was running both sides and was operating how I wished it would for years. Hope it gets back to that soon.

According to Theme Park ERT on YouTube:

"Tatsu's paint job has been paused temporarily due to a lot of the crew getting sick and them not having enough painters to continue efficiently. So, with the holidays coming up, they've decided to halt all work on it until the New Year. This is very unfortunate considering they were trying to meet a deadline, but the good news is that Tatsu will open today and remain open until the New Year. What are your thoughts on this?"

Wonder what the source is...but if true that is very unfortunate. Sad to hear, however I am sure lots of people visiting MM this month will be more than pleased. Might have to make my way down there to experience a partially re-painted Tatsu lmao

On another topic, I may have the opportunity to visit this park December 10th/11th.  Is it safe to assume that, as a year-round-park, everything runs during Knott's Merry Farm (except of course whatever rides are closed for refurbishment)? I know I'll miss out on Xcelerator, but this is the only time I could make it work and I just have this feeling that Montezooma doesn't have long to live and want to get on the only Scwarzkopf shuttle loop left in the US.

    Yes everything runs.

I mean a ride like Cheetah Hunt is pretty family friendly with it's 40 In height requirement, and consistently has the longest line at that park. I wouldn't mind something like that, a little more aggressive than Firechaser but still "family friendly".

yeah an addition like that would be perfect apart from it's similarity to firechaser in terms of look and launches. However, I do think a family-friendly version of time traveler is likely.

I thought the Jack and Coke was decent for an amusement park pre-mixed cocktail, but the Margarita was very tart to me.  I really wish they were able to sell the chicken restaurant boysenberry mojitos in the park.  Its not really that far to go get a couple though.

Xcelerator The Ride has been added to the ride closures from (Nov. 29 - Dec. 17)

    https://www.knotts.com/scheduled-ride-closures

I hope the crowds today aren't indicative of what is in store for the holidays.  It was one of those walk around and maybe catch a flat ride or two type of days.

Wow...this has been an intensely busy season for Knott's...I miss the first few weeks of re-opening when you could just ride coasters all day with no worries.

I'm going tonight from 6-10pm hoping the crowds will be much less than yesterday.

  9. My expectations were extremely low for theming, but in that regard I just wanted to discuss the station...is there anything more Six Flags than slapping "Embassy" on a white box and calling it a day? haha. Made me actually laugh when I was watching the video. Not a fan of the station at all but again, I had low expectations.

Anyhow, I am so excited for this addition and I think it's a great coaster to round out the 20 coasters in the park. That area of the park desperately needed another people muncher, and it will add a whole new kinetic energy to the back. Not a big fan of the name but that does not actually matter to me.

Lastly, it seems like the views from the lift hill are going to be truly special, especially climbing over the lift hill into the first drop. I'm very excited for some sunset rides on this beast.

So why exactly does Ghostrider have bad capacity?

I’m just curious since I’m not that familiar with the park and it doesn’t seem like a wood coaster with Millennium Flyer trains should be that atrocious.

I think it's a few things. First, the fact that it runs 2 trains. Second, it takes a second for the train on the brake run to actually enter the station as the first one departs. This does not add a ton of time but over the course of a day it certainly adds up. Last, there are no lockers and so loose articles, seatbelts and restraints at a family oriented park can really just take awhile. The ride is also long and could truly benefit from 3 train operations (though i'm not sure if it ever has/could)

  11. Talked to a ride operator for Superman on Thursday morning about the forward facing side. I asked if it would be open that day to which he responded "No, sometime next month".

So hopefully we start seeing some test runs soon! I'm curious to see if the OTSRs hold the forward facing side from reaching its past potential. Regardless, very excited things are coming along so quickly for the unexpectedly awesome Superman upgrade.

Going to the part this Thursday and just noticed it's going to be 108 degrees...yikes! Does the heat ever deter crowds? Also, if I have two skip the line passes can I use one and have my non-member friend use the other? How does it work?

The heat can deter crowds and will for sure empty the park out a bit more as the day goes on (so late day lines should be shorter than if it was not extremely hot). I cannot stress enough how important it is to be there at opening. You can get on 5-9 main coasters in the first two hours if you get there at opening and it also won't be nearly as hot yet. Just another suggestion, I would recommend using the skip the line on full throttle (unless you ride it first) as the line seems to be the longest/slowest aside from Superman (which I believe you can't use any fast pass stuff on).

  13. Tidal Wave is missing most of its first drop now. The station looks ready for another coaster to just plop in. All of the Green Lantern city facades are gone. It's probably a matter of days/weeks before the Green Lantern signage is finally removed.

If you go to the park and want a nice view of what's going on, the best views are from Riddler's and Batman lifts, both of which have walk on waits during the last hour of the day.

Batman opened today. I rode it several times. 🙃 Good thing I had a flash pass, line management is a nightmare for the general public...

Lucky...waited 80 minutes for Batman. Plus, they need to figure out what to do for Batman's line. I was stuck in a tiny tunnel for over half an hour in between maskless guests. I personally was not bothered, but others around me were quite upset by the situation. Even one of the employees working the line got frustrated at the whole ordeal.

On a brighter note, I had the smoothest ride on Scream in my life today so that's something.

Some photos of Batman's re-paint would be great! Back to gray or just a fresh coat of blue?

I got a few but they are not great. I will get some better ones next week. It's a fresh paint of blue and it looks amazing. It's unclear if they are going to paint/have been painting the supports.

Also, CraZanity opened up finally at about 3pm yesterday. I was able to get on the last cycle of the night after waiting about an hour. Additionally, Apocalypse is back open, making every major ride in the park operational except for Batman.
