  1. I am painting the fenders and wings by hand, and the restraints and seats I am spray painting.  Everything black is printed with black filament.

The car is my Kumba themed Dodge Charger.  I wanted to use it as a size reference.

The first photo shows how long this train will be. once completed it will be roughly 46 inches long, and likely weigh 20-30 pounds.

The metal hardware alone is for the entire thing will reach around $350 once said and done.  I am around $150 spent on plastic, and $40ish on paints so far.

If anyone is wondering, 1 order of the hardware will nearly complete the first 5 rows.

  2. Hey everyone!  It's been a while since I have posted, but I have been lurking and reading topics.

I wanted to start a thread about my Montu train that I am working on, and will include a link to purchase the files for the train.

So I have been working on this project since November 18, 2020.  I am currently printing components for row 5.

This is where I am at so far.  I will upload the progress photos later.

  3. Not to stir the SOB pot again, but I visited the park yesterday and took some photos of the mystery wood that appeared by the SOB memorial in Banshee line.

I'm thinking this announcement is most likely the long-rumored antique cars, unless it could be some kind of show or event that's returning? I'm actually off tomorrow so I might try to turn up for it. I was already considering going to KI tomorrow but now this gives me another reason to go!

On another note, is King's Island similar to other parks in that the crowds increase as Haunt goes along? I am thinking of making a trip out the first or second weekend of Haunt and was curious, as when I went Oct. 21 last year it was absolutely packed.

Last year I visited Haunt at least half of the Fridays it was running, and I can confirm that it does tend to get busier closer to Halloween! Also, Fridays are better than Saturdays, by far, and maze lines get shorter later in the evening.

I work at Banshee... THIS IS NOT A TEASER...

This has been there since the beginning of the season. A member of my crew who was supposed to be looking for lost articles found it down the hill and in the trees, and thought it would be nice to have actual part of the ride by the Eternal Flame The flowers were put there by SOB fans.

I repeat, this has NOTHING o do with a new ride or attraction. It was just the Banshee crew paying respect to the former occupant of that area.

Repeat again... BANSHEE CREW FOUND THE WOOD.....

  4. So. I was at IOA on Monday, and while I had a great time, I had some awesome, fun, sad, and memorable rides on Dragons.

First and foremost, the line was the typical station wait most of the day. It started picking up later in the day.

Our first ride was on Horntail(Ice) in row 8. This was probably the BEST ride I have ever had on the dragons out of all the times I had ever been to IOA. It was so smooth, and the cobra roll wasn't as jerky as I remembered it being on some of my previous rides.

Next we rode Fireball(Fire) in row 1. Other than what felt like a bad road wheel, it was a great ride, with the usual snap at the top of the second immelman. Still a very smooth ride.

I took a couple people who had never been, and they couldn't understand why they are removing such a smooth and fun roller coaster.

The longest we waited was either for River Adventure, or Kong. Both had 20 to 30 minute waits. Not sure which one was longer.

We made a loop around the park, and ended the day with a mini Dragon marathon that was interrupted by a storm that lasted from about 6:30 until after 8 pm. They finally got the ride cleared to reopen after the storm passed, and we waited it out.

Finally, we got the last public train on Fireball! Such an awesome ride!

It was very sad for me as someone who loves B&M's. I could not imagine Kings Island closing Banshee. I would be devastated.

  5. I got my final rides on them today. They both were butter smooth.. Even took someone who had never been to the park, and they mentioned how smooth it was.

We managed to get the last public ride on Fireball in row 7.

From age 16 to 23 (when I moved away), I put in a lot of rides on those coasters. I have lots of great memories.

The last ride was emotional for many reason, but what a great ride it was.

I'm not going to make a special trip down for the new HP ride, but returning to Islands will never be the same.

  6. Visited yesterday for the first time since 2015. Had another good visit. Some thoughts:

-While it never actually stormed while I was there (2:30pm-close) there was a good bit where rides were down due to lightning in the area. Still can't understand why Banshee/The Bat have to be down for lightning while Vortex, Delirium, Congo Falls, and Xtreme Skyflyer can all operate.

-One annoyance: on almost all of my rides on the two B&M coasters one of their two exit gates was still locked, causing a bottle neck with everyone riding.

Hi there. I work at Banshee, and can somewhat explain these.

The rides close in phases depending on storm proximity.

Phase 1 is the big coasters such as Diamondback, Banshee, Invertigo, and the towers. These things close first.

Phase 2 is things like SkyFlyer, Delirium etc. These cose second.

Phase 3 is the entire park. Basically, if Phase 3 happens, run for cover!

Some rides close when others don't depending on the history of said ride in the rain.

Don't know what is going on with DB, but we are waiting on new pressure pads at Banshee. We try to open the second gate by the switch after the train stops, but we can't always tend to the gates.

Sorry that annoyed you. It is just as annoying for us because it takes that much longer to get everyone out of the station and to send the next train.

  7. I’m planning a trip to KI on May 15 and 16. Unfortunately, my body started telling me last year that it doesn’t like as big a dose of coasters as it used to. I’m trying to figure out whether it’s the G forces or the intensity that is causing the problem.

Would anyone venture an opinion whether intensity or G forces are causing me a problem? Once I know, I’m trying to evaluate whether Diamondback and Banshee at KI will work for me. Thanks.

    Hey there.

I am a 4th year returning Banshee crew member. My advice is this:

Ride in the first 4 rows of the train. It will not be as intense. The further back you ride, the more intense it will be. Of the 15 B&M inverted coasters I have ridden, our drop in the back is the most intense. Also, you will want to catch Banshee on a HOT day. It tends to run better and smoother on hotter days. When it is cold out, it will be a tad rough.

My advice for Diamondback is to ride it first in car 5. That would be rows 9 and 10. It is smack middle of the train, and provides nice smooth floater air, and is not as intense as front ofr back. HOWEVER, row 16 is the place to sit if you want airtime on every drop.

  8. So what is the SOB reference on Mystic Timbers I've heard a few people mention? I must have missed it on my 10+ rides.

It appears that nobody is going to answer this for us

I figured it out, I think.

There are red eyes on the right side as you are listening to the music.

Also, the things that play on the screens are nods to former rides. (Not sure if anyone has mentioned that fact)

  9. On a separate occasion, our train left the station and when we got to the lift, the chain wasn't running so we stopped at the base of the lift and were there for around another 10 minute delay. While the ride wasn't running perfectly whenever there was a delay they seemed to get it back up and going pretty quickly.

I heard about this in the break room today!... I actually LMAO at that.

  10. I gotta be honest here...WHY WOULD YOU WAIT FOUR HOURS FOR THAT RIDE?!?!?! This is a pass holder preview night, so all of these people should be able to easily come back again another day!!! Go enjoy the rest of the park empty and ride the new ride some other time. It will be there for awhile!!!!

Preview night was very busy all over.. we were up to an hour wait at Banshee most of the night.

Today, (Sunday) Banshee was a walk on, and I heard Mystic was over an hour.

But I agree. It will BE HERE!

I did however get to ride Mystic and love it. Perk of working in rides and being sent to help as extended queue team.

  11. So, I was wondering what everyone thought about the new Beauty and the Beast.

All shows were sold out when I went. I did manage to get 2 seats together Saturday night that wasn't right at the screen. I want to go see it again!

    What did everyone think?

I think the entire cast did an awesome job. Was very impressed with Emma Watson in this. Josh Gad and Luke Evans were hysterical together.

There was a bit more information in this movie than there was in the 1991 version. You find out what happened to Belle's mother. Timelines seem to be fixed and it makes sense.

  12. Maybe they will reuse the interior of the train depot building for a gift shop?

It would be a good move to use that for a gift shop for Timbers souvenir's and possibly some new Train gear! but where would they put the coke freestyle that is in there right now, plus that's a pretty small space as it is right now.

New station pictures where released by the park today! It looks beautiful!!!!!!!

Are you on that crew? If so and you get drive trained, you are going to bake in the morning sun up there in that drive box. Banshee's drive box sucks in the afternoon through sunset. Even worse, is the metal panel. It reflects the heat. That's why we put that Halloween curtain in the one window at Banshee.

  13. I remember waiting like 5 hours or something for Outer Limits on it's opening day back in 1996 , I guess crazy lines for new attractions is nothing new.

I rode Diamondback 5 times that day. Longest we waited an an hour and a half.

We timed it several times. Back then, a full gueue was 45 from the entrance sign to the top of the stairs.

    That was a great day.

  14. ^You were trained at Banshee? I don't recognize you. (Avitar too small)

I am sure you know me. I can not go anywhere in that park without a "Hey, Jesse!" That is why I like going to other parks. No one knows me.

Went to Cedar Point, and went most of the day without anyone knowing who I was. Then a ride op was walking and said "Hey, Jesse!" I'm like, "Um.... Hi?!"

  15. ^I don't have any numbers but I don't see Diamondback coming anywhere remotely close to 1500 an hour since the addition of seatbelts. And Banshee is good, but they'd have to do 54 trains in an hour to get 1700, which I'd guess has happened maybe once in three years.

See my post above this one. It is very possible at Banshee. Everything has to be running very smoothly. From the entrance to the separator to the bar checkers to the exit. As soon as the train stops, the bar checkers need to be in that train opening the seats, and ushering guests out and in.

Some may have notices the lift has several speeds. If we can get a train out of the station right at 20 seconds after the scream it will literally crawl up the lift. I say this all the time. The longer the train is on the lift, the longer we have in the station to check seats.

I am very proud of the work the Banshee crews have done.

In 2017 I am hoping to be placed at Mystic, but will still be happy if I am placed at Banshee again. Maybe do a season at Mystic then go back to Banshee.
