It seems to me that the manufacturer didn't take the tilt into account when determining the restraint tolerance/threshold. The victim's body type only allowed the restraint to close to what looks to be about 30 degrees shy of vertical, closely matching the tilt of the ride. There really wasn't much in way of the victim falling out, aside from the little bump molded into the front of the seat.
While I do think that the ride operators should have erred on the side of caution upon seeing how high the restraint was, my opinion is that the manufacturer holds most of the blame here.
My thoughts are with everyone involved. I cannot imagine how traumatic this situation was for anyone who happened to witness the accident.

Swung by for a couple hours yesterday — primarily to enjoy the weather and grab some lunch.
Viper continues to rank high for me when it comes to Arrow loopers and Tantrum is still one of the smoothest Euro-Fighter’s I’ve ridden.
Got a burger and fries from Potato Works and that hit the spot.
We all need to remember that Darien is a small fish in a big pond when it comes to Six Flags. The only way to help a small fish is to feed it — spend your money there.
Small regional parks will remain small regional parks if all we do is complain. Darien Lake isn’t perfect, but it always makes for an enjoyable day.
Support your parks folks!

I mean, not to be “that guy,” but...If it does get a full I-Box retrack, I would love to see the debates on whether or not it's a new creditIf it ends up going I-Box plus a reprofiling that introduces a new element or two...? That’s pretty compelling as far as “new credit” goes.
I suppose the threshold for “new credit” is going to be pretty subjective depending on what happens.

Right?!? And, I’m sure they will continue to landscape making it’s presence slightly less visually jarring.Hate it when roller coasters ruin the skyline at a theme park /s I’ve never understood this gripe. -
Maybe I'm overthinking things, but don't red, orange, and yellow seem significantly shorter than blue, teal, and green? Seems like the warm color slides will always have an "advantage" over the cool colors when it comes to finishing first. (You know, if anyone actually cares about that.)
Not necessarily. They may have accounted for the difference by making that side's helix slightly larger.
Similar to how they account for each individual slide by ensuring that the slide that starts the helix on the outside ends on the inside, and vice versa. Does that make sense? Not sure if I'm doing a good job explaining that.
Edit: Whitecap Racer at Hershey Park seems to have a similar layout. Curious if anyone who has ridden it can verify if one side has an advantage.

Just wondering. We agree that the virus started in China and a mask may slow it down. How did South Korea, Japan, and the other Asian countries avoid getting their countries infected resulting in a bunch of deaths? They didn't shut more stuff down, they just wore masks and didn't complain about it. Brazil, India, Russia, and good chunks of the USA said screw masks and the virus is going everywhere. Japan and South Korea are closer to China and are doing a lot better than Arizona or Florida right now.
I'm not sure you'll find an answer from a qualified epidemiologist on this forum, but I could be wrong about that.
My hunch is that physical proximity of countries matters much less than the policies and mitigations each country has put in place to flatten the curve as well as social compliance in regards to wearing masks, keeping distant, and washing hands.
It's likely that Japan and South Korea acted more quickly than the United States has in regards to mitigations and recommendations. I also assume that you are correct in pointing out cultural differences.
I really wish the US in general would take mask wearing more seriously. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." It really seems like a no-brainer.

Are we bitching about $2 again?
Appears so... With everything going on, I feel like those who choose to visit any park this season should be prepared to compromise and roll with the rules and operational changes.
-
Well, I just spent $130 on 1.5 bricks... anybody else grab theirs early?
-
If I worked at Cedar Point, reading the awful, entitled, whiny comments on this Youtube Livestream would make me want to close the park forever and move to the moon.
^I'm right there with you. I'm really impressed at the scope of this year's investments— so many areas of the park are getting improvements and nice little touches.
Am I about to drop a $100 on a Legacy Walk Brick, (read in a Minnasotian accent) you bet ya!

Is it too early to revive this thread for the winter season? Because I had some time to throw the drone up yesterday.

People even criticized Rolling Thunder’s logo directly to the person who created it - which was a complete shame.
Ah, good times! Really though, I didn’t mind any criticism. I just hope Six Flags doesn’t pull my logo and rebrand the ride around the Joker or something like that.
If they do, I hope they’ll let me take the portal sign off their hands. [emoji7]

It's the most bizarre layout I've seen in a while, that's for sure. That being said - it looks awesome! I'm not a "sports" guy, but strong IP is always fun to see, especially at regional parks.

I've got a couple weeks until my Carowinds stop on the way to the Atlantic ocean. Unlike last year, I'm going to spend more than 2 hours at the park
If the weather is warm enough, I'm definitely going to check out the water park. Looks great!
For those who enjoy BBQ - check out Mac's Speed Shop not too far from Carowinds.
http://www.macspeedshop.com/southend/
Excellent beer selection, great smoked wings that don't even need sauce, and a variety of delicious fried things.

Last year it was bumpin' on a Friday night. You know you're in for good food when there are 50+ motorcycles parked out front. Looking forward to making a stop back there after my Carowinds run!
Charlotte honestly has so many great restaurants. I really miss living there sometimes - agree on Mac's, great place!

Great photos! And I'm in at least one of them!! The fog made for such a unique media day.

Yes following 24 x 7 is a bit much, especially for a park like DL, but I bet someone from the park checks in about once a day or so. Ask Doug M, he was in charge of social media for the park for one year and I am pretty sure that is how we all got to know him
I, along with a few others, would check forums and social media sites regularly to see what was being said about the park. Occasionally I would respond to posts, though there were obviously certain subjects I couldn't address here.
I was extremely fortunate to have my start at Darien, and I cannot say enough good things about the incredibly hard working team there. They are doing everything within their means to grow and improve the park, but Rome wasn't built in a day.
-
^Also, the EPR sale will not be finalized until Q2. So, I doubt CNL would foot the bill for marketable capital and EPR likely couldn't until the sale is final.
Darien is still a tremendous value for local visitors. Their Season Pass alone is a steal when you think about the size of the park.

Ugh they took the lights off the colored sections.
I'm guessing they will put lights back on once it is in the final location. As far as I know, all four rides will have beautiful lighting packages installed.

Did they really just name the water park after one of DL's largest water slides? I never really had a problem with the previous name "Water World"
It seems as though the shootout will be staying from the video on the website
I'm not seeing a new name for the water park on the website. I must be missing it, mind pointing it out?
Big Kahuna's
I see it now, only on mobile though. I think it is a mistake in their website content management system. They have another water park property in Florida called Big Kahuna's and it looks like the same image from their mobile site. They likely use the same Content Management System and the asset got ported over by mistake.
All the verbiage on the site simply says "water park." I think for the time being it is unbranded.

So, what do y'all want to see go here? Seems like an ideal footprint for those Zamperla Giga Discovery rides that Six Flags have installed in many of their other parks.
