was X open?
-
We were hoping to stay somewhere a little north of there. It would make it easier to get to SFMM in the morning and also avoid traffic on the way home. How far is the drive from Knott's to SFMM anyway? I assume about an hour?
-
My best friend and I finally coordinated our schedules to make a trip and visit both of these parks. We are thinking of leaving on April the 9th at about 8am. The drive to Knott's from Phoenix, AZ should be around 5 hours, as we'd be going directly to the park.
The park closes at 8pm, does that give us enough time if we get there by 1:30 or 2pm? Should we not attempt this at all and stay the extra night in the hotel so we can get a full day at each park? We are on tight budgets... Looking at Knott's website, it appears it is a prime time to go because there is no scheduled ride rehab.
We plan to hit SFMM tuesday and be there when it opens. We're not sure whether we should run to X or Tatsu first. Also, I've heard rumors that X is closed on a certain weekday every week for testing/maintenance purposes, is there any truth to this?
I'm basically looking for some insider info you might have that I don't about these dates, Knott's would be Monday April 9th, SFMM would be Tuesday April 10th. I am not interested in the entire trip if I don't get a chance to ride X, so I am really hoping I will be able to know it will be open. I have been to SFMM twice since it was built and neither time it was open, once was when they delayed the grand opening, the other was when it was down for revisions.
Any other tips I might need? Any suggestions on where to book hotel? Keep in mind we'd need it to be cheap, but we don't want to stay in a dump or the ghetto. (probably a place in between Knott's and SFMM would be good)
As far as inside the park tips go, I'm much more familiar with SFMM than Knott's since I haven't been to Knott's since I was very little.
Thanks for any help!

Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens Europe in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Many amazing humps, and it's very very smooth and comfortable.
As for the best single moment airtime I've experienced? Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California. The really long hump coming out of the 2nd drop is pure sex.

How many total entries are allowed? Unlimited? How long do you think we will have for submissions?
-
This is a good idea, I've done this sort of thing with hot babes before =P
I think it might be a little more fun for people with less experience if it was only 64 coasters total, instead of a whole 128, but I was still able to vote on a couple.

I picked the bigger cube, my friend is clearly an idiot.

I couldn't wait for saturday. So I took two ice cubes out of my freezer and set them on the counter. My friend and I bet on which one would melt first. I won!!! Hooray!!!
Looking forward to the DVDs

Timber Wolf at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, MO
I wanted it to be over after the first drop already. It made my ribs hurt and feel like they were jumping all over my chest cavity. It also hurt my neck and head especially when it would bottom out at the end of a hill.

I don't want to detract from the point of the post, but, why does everyone always say Mean Streak is so painful? I've been on a lot of wooden coasters and Mean Streak was very smooth for an older style woodie when I rode it. Grizzly at Paramount's Great America, is much worse, as is the newly removed Psyclone at Magic Mountain. If you think any of those are rough, try riding Timber Wolf at Worlds of Fun, worst experience ever.
Did I just have a bit of luck on Mean Streak? I hear all the time about how rough it is...
I haven't been to BGA yet sadly, only BGE, so I can't comment on the rest of the post other than I am really looking forward to getting to all the Florida parks soon and I hope you have fun there!

The Curse of DarKastle at Busch Gardens Europe has a great queue/station theme. Generally I've found dark rides tend to have the best stations.
This makes sense because otherwise there wouldn't be much of a draw to it from the outside since you can't see track or anything.
Here are some pictures.

I know I could probably find an answer using the search function, but for some reason the search function is not working for me, it never resolves to a page.
I used to catch numerous coaster or theme park shows on discovery channel or travel channel a few years back, but I haven't seen one at all in several years. I was wondering if they are still being aired on these networks, or maybe you could enlighten me by telling me other ones as well. If there are new shows still being aired, how can I find a schedule for them so I can make sure I don't miss them?
I sure do enjoy watching them!

Thanks for the replies, maybe I will bet $25 on an NCAA tournament game then and try for 3 DVDs!

Patriot at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri.
Rode it back in late July, when it was brand spanking new. It has been way too long since I've ridden a coaster, ugh!
-
It says buy 2 DVDs and get the 3rd free. Does that mean I have to buy 2 at the same time? What if I bought 1, and then maybe a month later decided to purchase a 2nd, would I then be eligible for the 3rd free even though I purchased my first two at different times?
Just wondering because I am a rather poor college student and I'm not in a position to buy 2 at once at the moment!

Oh, by the way, hello! I'm new here. My home turf growing up was Paramount's Great America in Santa Clara, CA... I currently attend Web Development college in Arizona, and I'm 23 years old. I've been a long time lurker on this site though and with a lot of the content moving to the forums I was compelled to signup!

This explanation makes good sense. I've always known this is possible if you live moderately and I plan to do something similar once I graduate college.
However, this has prompted a followup question from me, because I always assumed you guys were already retired and had a lot of time.
Followup Question: If you each hold full time management type jobs, how are you guys able to get so much time off to go on these trips? Especially when you both must get the same days off?
What was your first coaster with inversions?
in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!

This is kinda sad but, I don't remember.
I know it was either Tidal Wave or Demon at Paramount's Great America.
