  1. The wrench in all of this is that Gaylord/Marriott has stated that they are in the process of moving forward with those same water/snow park plans. They are seeking an operating partner to make it happen (Marriott may be the right people to do this given that they have some water park resorts in the North East, right?). So they are well ahead of Dolly in terms of “building a water park”. They own the land and the plans are ready to go.

I don’t think Nashville, or many cities really, could support four water parks. Wave Country is owned by the city, so I would think that it would be the first one to go – b/c eventually it will happen to one or two of them, just being realistic about it. It would literally be an oversaturation of water parks, pun intended.

We'll see how it all plays out though. Things can change quickly.

Screamscape reports that the Gaylord - Denver is building an indoor/outdoor water park.

This is Gaylord's first water park and this looks like something that could happen at Nashville-Gaylord as well...we'll have to wait and see. The investment is about $25 million - IIRC that is what Gaylord-Nashville was going to invest in the Dollywood-Gaylord water & snow park, for a total of $50 million for phase I.

  2. I have been looking for a ride layout to Blazing Fury and I couldn't find anything. Do any of you guys have the layout?

Well...sort of. Here's Fire In The Hole's panel...its layout is basically the same as Blazing Fury. The station area is on the right. I think FITH at one point had a different layout - you can see where they adjusted the layout on the panel. I think Blazing Fury's layout has remained the same.

  3. I'm not sure of another one like this where the switch happens in front of the station like this one will do. Lots of other coasters have switches to divide a station up into two zones, like Kingda Ka, Firehawk, some, maybe all the Big Thunders do i think....im sure there are many more that use switches as part of the layout that i'm not familar with. The Mummy?? Thirteen?? there are probably many many more.

  4. This ride is going to be awesome! I'm interested to see how that switch-track thing in front of the station works.

You can see it in the preview video. A freshly loaded train will launch out of the station going forwards. The switch track will then flip to the other side and allow a backwards-facing-train to back in to the station for unloading and reloading. Then there's a second switch track at the top of the hill that will let it go in to the 'explosion room' or whatever they call it...while the show is going on the track will flip and it will launch backwards back to the main station. It's a pretty clever set up i think...similar to Expedition Everest and Big Grizzly Mtn in China. I can't remember ever being excited about a junior coaster before, but i am.

  5. I accidentally bought a spin on the wheel while exploring the store, using up 10 of the precious 45 donuts I had.

I wouldn't have been upset if I had won something other than $1000.

You can turn on the 'confirm donut spend' in your settings to prevent that from happening again. http://tstoaddicts.com/tag/confirm-donut-spend/

I think there were 9 'snowmen' - Homer, Marge, Bart, Maggie, Lisa, Grandpa, santa’s little helper, snowball II, and the Ice God. The same ones (except Ice God) available for donuts in the christmas-premium-stuff menu in the game.

I found some of this wheel advice helpful getting the last few prizes on the wheel...

  6. I think there's room for three trains (really they're 8-person cars) down there, which means that four have to be on the course during operations. Hope that helps some.

Good illustration and close! Mystery Mine can operate with three cars, there is room for four on the maintenance spur.

Thanks again! I can never have enough 'useless' info about DW!

ImagineerJohn - Here's some great pics of MM during construction, before the walls were put in.

  7. Just wondering if anyone can help me. I am trying to locate a ride layout plan for mystery mine. I do not know the ride that well as I have never been on it.

So if anyone could quickly draw up a line drawing of the attraction marking blocks, station locations for how many trains are there and the mechanics area that would be a real help!

This looks horrible, but it should help...

Orange is the track that's less visable. Purple are the two outside blocks. The lifts are marked. Storage/maintenance is under the station. There's a small section of track at the back of the station that uses a scissor-lift to lower or raise the trains to/from the maintenance area. I think there's room for three trains (really they're 8-person cars) down there, which means that four have to be on the course during operations. Hope that helps some.

  8. ^If it were me and I was driving that great distance, then I would get a Qbot. They’re good for rides and shows. You have to book all the shows at the Qbot booth, but rides can be booked anywhere in the park. TnTornadoX has mentioned on here that you can pre-order a Qbot on the Dollywood website…so that’s a good tip too. I’ve never seen them sell out of Qbots, but that’s just my experience with it. Yes, Saturdays are busy during the Christmas event in November and December. It gets busier as the day progresses, people come to see the lights especially and the shows are very popular as well. As for shows, new this year is Dollywoods A Christmas Carol…featuring a hologram of Dolly in each performance. Check the website for all the other shows. There’s a lot to do and see at Dollywood…lots! Hope that helps some, i know others will have more advice and suggestions.

  9. Your report reminded me of the other Weather Condition that Dollywood has and that is that they go to One Train Operation when it gets down to 45 Degrees - for Wild Eagle, Thunderhead & Tornado. So that can really make the lines long long long...and they don't do a very good of job of explaining this either.

This policy is mandated by GCI in their ride operations manual. For a short time, all coasters adhered to it but don't any longer. As of this moment, Thunderhead is the only coaster that does this.

Thanks for sharing that, thats interesting and good to know. It would be awesome if there was a fix for whatever is the reasoning behind the GCI policy...wonder if its the compression brakes vs. magnetic brakes?? It's the only coaster in the park that has just compression brakes. MM has magnetic, compression and tires, TT has magnetic and compression, BF has magnetic....so i wonder if it's just a matter of time for Thunderhead? Or is there another reason altogether?? anyway thanks again for the info!!

  10. ^I was so tempted to go Saturday but i was worried about the crowds. I've experienced some 'fish-tailing' in the back seat of the tram (4 car Chance tram) coming down the hill from Splash Country's parking lot before...it was wild and scary at all the same time.

this post is from Nozzy back in oct 15, 2012 -

Last year I was told by operators that

-Coasters open when the temperature is above 40 degrees

-Coasters close when the temperature drops below 36 degrees

-Flats (or at least the Screamin' Swing) close when the temperature is below 32 degrees.

All rides should be open except the water rides, and Adventure Mountain closes at dusk. I went twice last year, and could get plenty of rides in and then switch to shows when it got chillier and the coasters closed. You should have a blast!

I think most of the rides in the County Fair section can operate under 32, it's worth checking out if you're at the park and the coasters start shutting down.

And my last tip is to Wear a Hoodie! Dollywood has a No Hats policy, so no hats on the coasters....hoodies are good though.

  11. I haven't seen the ones on WE, but these have been around on other coasters for awhile right?, i seem to remember seeing them before. The one's i've seen are like a small metal bar with holes in it that you can add a strap to...it fastens somehow. But when it's not needed its not in the way of normal operations, so anyone can sit in these seats. Great news really.

  12. Is the building that was once the Inventors Mansion still at the park, or has it been removed now? Also, the Flooded Mine Attraction, where was it located? Is it still in use as another attraction?

The Inventors Mansion building is still there, perched on its hillside. I think its now the ACE Roller coaster museum....it's 2nd season. It's not clear how long it will be there. At one point it was Dolly's museum "rags to riches", before moving to its current location in the Adventures in Imagination area.

The Flooded Mine was where Daredevil Falls is today...in Craftsman's Valley.

  13. ^I think they are going to focus the $150 million/10y.p. on Wilderness Pass and then a new path going up towards the upper train loop and developing it. Country Fair and the Village are completely jam packed with stuff, and i don't think a coaster can go over the railroad tracks b/c the exhaust from the coal train would be deadly. But you never know with Dollywood. I could see a little Mack bob sled coaster or spinner coaster shoe-horned in next to the Rockin Roadway. But a RMC coaster would certainly need a lot of space and there really isn't any in Country Fair, the Village, the 50's area, or any area towards the front of the park. I would say that would be unlikely to happen. OTOH, the area between Thunderhead and the parking lot could be an option...its currently undeveloped and the train makes a u-shaped turn, which leaves a lot of potentially available space to put a coaster in.

Following the opening of the Wild Eagle steel wing coaster in 2012 and Splash Country’s water coaster RiverRush this year, Parton also highlighted plans for a new attraction, the FireChaser Express, set to open in March 2014 where Adventure Mountain used to be located.

The company said it will be the nation’s first dual-launch family coaster that launches twice, traveling forward and backward on a winding 2,427-foot track. It will catapult from zero to 16 mph in just 1.1 second going forward and then launch backward from zero to 20 mph in 2 seconds.

The FireChaser Express is meant to celebrate the volunteer-based fire departments of the 1940s who protected the neighboring Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Located 12 stories above the park’s Wilderness Pass area Express, the coaster will feature three 14-passenger trains with an hourly capacity of 750 riders. The 39-inch minimum height requirement allows many 4-year-olds to ride.

“FireChaser Express is truly special to me because families can ride this coaster together,” Parton said in the news release.

    Sounds like a shuttle coaster.?..?
