  1. Where does all the money go that a park makes? I know rides are extremely expensive especially coasters. But when a park charges $15.00 to park your car, $50.00 to get in,$3.00 for water and even more $$$ for food. It seems to me that there should be enough money to pay park employees a decent salary. If you pay well then you can be strict on rules and policy. But if you don't, most people won't put up with crap for minimum wage. I wonder what Holiday World or Dollywood pays. They seem to have great customer service. I believe if your not happy with your job then your attitude will be passed on to the customer.
  2. Just out of curosity, what does the average themepark pay a ride op or any other park worker. I have a crappy job but it doesn't pay too shabby. I would love to work for an amusement park if I could actually make a living at it.
  3. Lake Winnie had a problem a few years ago when a huge fight broke out in the park. Soon after they implemented a new policy. No one under 21 was allowed in the park without an adult. I know 18 is considered an adult and the policy seems extreme, but the park hasn't had any problems that I know of since the policy was put in place. Perhaps the Six Flags parks should implement a similar policy. The policy would certainly cost the park some patrons but I believe this would be offset by the number of families that would attend because of the new family friendly atmosphere. Just a thought.
  4. I've only been to SFOG and no other SF parks. My thinking was that most SF parks were in or near larger cities with high urban crime. Disney or Universal Orlando attract tourist from all over the world. These people go to Disney for a vacation. Urban teens go to a Six Flags to hang out. Dollywood, Holiday World and other smaller parks are in smaller rural areas but agaain are visited mostly by tourist and not the urban street thugs. I'm not sure about the Paramount parks. I've been to Carowinds and PKI and didn't notice a thug problem like SFOG. At my home park, Lake Winnie, anyone under 21 isn't allowed in the park without an adult. I think that is a little extreme, but a few years ago a huge fight broke out in the park. I haven't heard of any major problems since the new policy has been put in place. Maybe Six Flags should consider doing something similar at the troubled parks. It might turn away potential patrons, but it could also increase attendance by families who might no longer be afraid they will be shot.
  5. Wow, great story. I love BGE. I was terrified to ride Apollo's Chariot. I had never seen a coaster that tall before. But when I rode it I was amazed at how good it was. But it seems as I get older(I'm 33) it seems the heights bother me a little more. I also have a little inner ear trouble which causes me to get nauseous on a lot of rides. Thank God for Dramamine I really appreciate all the reply's to this post. I'm glad to know that other enthusiast have similar fears. THANKS
  6. Is anybody on here afraid of coasters? I know it's a stupid question on a coaster board. I love Roller Coasters but there are some that I probably wouldn't ride if given the chance. I kinda have a fear of heights. So rides like Top Thrill Dragster or Kingda Ka are out of the question. Millineum Force is probably too high. In fact the tallest coaster I've ridden is Apollo's Chariot. We were at SFOG the other day and Goliath looked awesome, but no one else in my group wanted to ride and I didn't want to ride by myself. We are going back in the fall, so hopefully I'll get to ride. I also don't enjoy the free fall sensation, therfore coasters like Deja Vu(which is never running anyway) or Superman the Escape(SFMM) are probably no no's for me also. Call me a wuss, or whatever but a coaster doesn't have to be the tallest or fastest to be fun. Some of my personal favorites are considerd mild by todays standards. I have ridden some pretty good coasters like: Thunderhead, Hulk,Raven,Legend, Dueling Dragons,Kraken, etc. and there are many more that I would like to ride. But I have my limits. I was just wondering if I am alone in this or are there others out there with similar fears?
  7. I just got back from SFOG a couple of days ago. They have great rides and a great park. But the customer service stinks. It was an extremely hot day which can be expected in July. It cost $3.00 for a bottle of water. We had been to Dollywood a few weeks ago and they were giving free water at any of the shops if you asked. Holiday World gives free soft drinks. I don't mind paying for a drink but $3.00 for water is ridiculous. Parking was $15.00,that is just crazy. They had a new haunted house attraction but it cost an additional $6.00. My wife and a friend went in and said it was a total waste. Don't get me wrong I expect to spend some money when I go to a park. But when I spend the money I expect great customer service. The ride ops were very slow and non attentive. The shops were hot, with little or no air conditioning. Deja Vu was down as usual. Most Queue Lines didn't have any type of fans or cooling. I wanted a good Superman coaster shirt. They didn't have one, in fact they didn't have any good coaster shirts except for Goliath. I had a good time, but with just a little better customer service I could of had a great time. Perhaps the powers that be at Six Flags should visit Holiday World, Dollywood or Cedar Point to find out what customer service means.
