Movieguy Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I'm not a really big sports fanatic, but I do have some idea what goes on thanks to Sportscenter. When the post-season comes in any sport, the only playoffs I can get into are the ones from the NFL and NCAA basketball, because of the fact they're both single-elimination. I mean, really. I've never gotten the appeal of these "Best of seven" playoff series. In my mind, they're designed solely to sell more tickets, and the teams can get lazy and over-confident when no real threat of elimination is against them. Plus in the Best of Seven, there's less chance of any upsets, as the richer and more powerful teams use the extra games to their advantage. The only sport where I have seen a fair share of upsets in this system has been MLB. This is why I can't really get into the NBA. It got a bit tough to stay excited, when you knew that some powerhouse like the Bulls, and later the Lakers, or Spurs were going to steamroll over everyone. And as much as I like the NHL's rule changes, it's gonna be hard to stay interested in their post-season with powerful teams like the Devils and Red Wings (The NY Yankees of the NHL, as I call them) having clear advantages. NoahTheBoa Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I agree, best of seven playoffs aren't as fun to follow. With a single elimination style it is a lot easier to get into the games because you know that the game is the only chance to move up instead of getting 7 games to get into the next round. Although the best of 7 series does make it an even matchup because a lucky win won't get you to the next round.
