rct3 performance issues

Recommended Posts

when you build a huge park, does your performance go down the toilet? i am running it in the lowest settings but it still runs like crap.

what kind of hardware is everyone using? i just ordered a new motherboard/processor/video card so I am hoping that it solves my problems!

It wont. The game is coded bad. You'd need the worlds best PC to run it with spectacular theming and large sizes, at the games peak performance. You cant do anything about it. Fronteir needs to fix that if they ever release an RCT4 because RCT3 is a blast but the game is lacking what would make it a true coaster enthusiast game. It lags terrible but RCT3 also has many other problems such as the banking on coasters, and the overall realism. It was made OK but its nothing like it could be. If they made a game with the building style and performance of NoLimits and the flat rides/theming of RCT3; it would create the ultimate park simulation game, but fronteir is too lazy to do anything about it.

Ok well lets see you do better...

Obviously you need to evaluate the amount that is going on in a game like RCT3 and a simulation like NoLimits... RCT3 has millions more calculations going on just to have the people moving around the screen. Realize that each of them has the geometry and AI calculations that have to be made. There is no really good way to simplify all of those calculations... I mean heck look at something like Sims 2... How many people does that have? What are the requirements for the game? It is just a simple issue of scale that you will never solve. The more calculations needed the harder it is for a game to run. Oh and don't bring up the first RCTs because those were 2d and therefore required far less calculations to be made.

Oh and on the building differences imagine if the game had to keep track of even more details with a freeform geometry system for the coaster tracks. It would just add even more that the game had to keep track of and add additional geometry to process.

Everyone just has to realize that with all games there have to be sacrifices made and you can't have everything.

Now all that said the best thing you can do to get better performance out of RCT3 is to get a faster processor and more RAM.

callaway, rct3 isnt supposed to be a simulation. a large percentage of the people who buy this game are not extreme coaster enthusiasts, and just want to have fun building a theme park.

if they wanted the game to be realistic, they could have dne that, but that wasnt the goal of this game.

People, people, people! Fronteir did a bad job of coding! No matter what is said they didn't do it well. The lag is terrible and even if it takes a lot more in RCT3 than NoLimits, that amount of lag is just unexcusable.

And I exaturated comparing it to NL, but if they used that kind of editor, the game could be so much better.

You just don't get it do you... There is no way you can compare something like RCT3 to most kinds of games. There is so much going on and there is no easy way to fake things so that you can get that little extra speed.

Honestly I doubt anyone here has any idea of the work involved in creating a 3d game. So honestly I wouldn't presume to know anything about whether a team did a good job or not. All I know is that if you look at games that try to similarly simulate people in a 3d environment they all run with similar chugging to RCT3. Hey Sims2 runs much worse typically for me than RCT3 and it only simulates a half dozen or so people.

its nothing to do with coding or whatever... the game just needs a good pc to run it very well.

Yes it is! My god, go to the official Atari forums or the Official Fonteir forums! Its coded bad and they'll admit it! People just maybe take some small bit of consideration into what I say and get a reliable source before you correct me.

You know it might be easier to actually take you seriously if you spelled Frontier correctly in ONE of your posts...

Oh and I have hit their forums a lot. I have never seen the employees say that the game was poorly coded. If you can find an example and link to it great... Otherwise just stop posting about this.
