It's not about the "Really More Coming". I'm just pointing out an announcement that is coming up on the 16th.
Who said there was an announcement coming on the 16th?
It's in the post you quoted.
I appropriately corrected it to "after the 16th". It's not for KD, but rather, CP.

well okay then.
I know what the word "may" means. My only point was that if you believe there's any reasonable chance that they're going to make any meaningful announcement (in the eyes of everyone in this thread that would mean a coaster) for KD in 2017 after they already teased and announced what they were doing then I think you're wrong. I don't know why that's an inflammatory statement. It wasn't supposed to be but this thread has gone entirely insane.
Glad we are on the same page.
^^ Please lighten up a little bit - I put a winkie emoticon to show you that I was only kidding. Most of us are pretty aware that CF isn't done with their announcements and yes...we have all seen the "Really More is Coming" thing. If it's an RMC somewhere at a CF park in the next year or two great...if not, most of us will manage to somehow survive.
Talking down to enthusiasts when you are only a ride-op at a CF park comes across like you are a pretentious dick-head that is only going to stir up trouble here.
It's not about the "Really More Coming". I'm just pointing out an announcement that is coming up after the 16th.
I am also not "only a ride-op at a CF park", but that is something to talk about over a drink.
If I'm coming off as pretentious, let me assure you that is not my goal.
^He got mad over something but I don't know why. The park already told us what they were getting. No reasonable person things they would have a huge announcement and then leave out something that's a million times better than what they actually announced. No park in the history of ever has done that. People just don't want to believe they're only getting a Planet Snoopy expansion and a few small enhancements here and there but that's what the park teased and announced.
I'm actually in a great mood.
And to address the point of "no park leaving out huge investments out of their announcements", I don't think that argument will be sufficient.
McClure was coy when asked about the future of Mean Streak, Cedar Point's massive wooden coaster that will close next month.Roller coaster fans are hoping that instead of being torn down, Mean Streak will be converted into a new ride – a so-called hybrid coaster with a wood frame and steel track.
McClure said any announcement of what will replace Mean Streak will come after the ride's last operating day, Friday, Sept. 16, the opening night of HalloWeekends.
"We'll string it out for a while," said McClure. "We like that people are curious."
He added, "The only thing I can tell you right now is that we won't disappoint you with what we do back there."

^^ Thanks for that valuable input, Dippin' Dots Guy.
- Not the Dippin' Dots guy. I work at I305 and have done so for several years now. Moreover, that's irrelevant.
- That post was not for you, so I don't know how it's "valuable", but you're welcome.

I'm saying Cedar Fair isn't done talking about the development of their parks, so we may be hearing more.
So you think Cedar Point's announcement will include a Kings Dominion announcement? You people are in such denial I'm honestly starting to feel a little bad for you.
You're getting a Planet Snoopy expansion. I know they said there would be "more" but you guys are putting way too much into that statement. Every park says that every single time they add anything. If it were anything worthwhile they would have announced it when they had a big presentation in a theater. It's time to accept reality and move on.
Firstly, you shouldn't include me into any "you people" group. I have no interest in taking sides in this discussion, and as an employee of Cedar Fair, it's a wise choice.
Secondly, my statement, "[...]Cedar Fair isn't done talking about the development of their parks, so we may be hearing more."
I put the important part in bold. Allow me to define the word for you as well.
I like Merriam-Webster and their definitions, so I'll use theirs.
Coming from definition C:
May - used to indicate possibility or probability.
While I would love to say some equivocation could have occurred in my statement, my statement is extremely clear.
In no way, shape, or form did I ever say that Cedar Point's announcement will include a King's Dominion announcement. That is you placing extraneous information into my statement.
So in a final breakdown.
Cedar Fair isn't done talking about the development of their parks
- - Canada's Wonderland and a few other parks have not announced their 2017 attractions
- Cedar Point GM mentioned that news on Mean Streak will come after the 16th of September
So we may be hearing more.
- - about Mean Streak
- about additional plans for any of the Cedar Fair parks, especially Canada's Wonderland and the parks who have yet to make their announcements
So if you could stop pulling words out of your behind, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you.

The Mean Streak announcement will happen after September 16, so who knows what else will come of it.
Are you suggesting that the Mean Streak announcement will have anything to do with Kings Dominion? I'm confused.
I'm saying Cedar Fair isn't done talking about the development of their parks, so we may be hearing more.
A big reason KD hasn't gotten a coaster for a while is because they don't have the space. They can't just expand because they feel like it, but rather if they have the money and a good reason for it. If Hurler gets the axe then that space will likely be created to put a decent ride there.
As for the land behind I305, hell to the no. But yeah. This park has gotten everything possible since I305 except a new coaster. In 2018 I'm predicting they'll finally get one and the rabid KD fanboys can finally shut up for the next 5 years (at least).
KD has a TON of land that is not being used.

So.. should I lose all hope in this park and drive up to carowinds and bgw instead? Speaking of Carowinds how far is it from Richmond va and is it even worth the drive?
I understand that this isn't the time or the thread for rational thinking but personally KD might still be my favorite park in the chain after Cedar Point. I prefer it to Ki, Knotts, Carowinds, Dorney and Wonderland for sure. KI might have a better coaster lineup (debatable) but KD has much nicer atmosphere, great flats and a spectacular log flume.
Anyway go back to your relentless bitching.
I have a really hard time of thinking what to add to KD's coaster lineup. It's easily one of the top in the chain.

But wait, there's still more!
OMG LARSON LOOP!
WORLDS FIRST GIGA LARSON LOOP!
but on the real though, repeating comment since it was buried.
Chad not confirming Hurler opening for 2017 and said, not verbatim, we can only have so many announcements in one day.
The mystery continues!

Chad not confirming whether Hurler will be open for 2017 season and mentioned "We can only fit so many announcements much in one day".
Pot has been stirred, let me grab my popcorn.

Nah...It'll probably be HurlerHawk
Iron Hurler
Wicked Hurler
Twisted Hurler
Steel Hurler
EDIT:
Reece is so cringey. Interesting guy to work with though.

Everybody here could be wrong it could end up being winterfest and a new show, But guessing is what's fun it doesn't have to be logical all the time.
Guessing is fun until someone like madax starts going after everyone who points out his obvious BS and logical fallacies.
Nothing wrong with fallacies.
EDIT:
A fallacy is a mistake in reasoning, but doesn't mean that someone's argument is wrong.
Fun fact: It's a fallacy to assume someone is wrong because their argument contains a fallacy.

This whole SnoopinAround thing really does make me think that it might have something to do with planet snoopy rather than Hurler
RMC Woodstock express ? Hahaha lol jk jk
That would be the greatest announcement ever.
Going briefly back to the subject of a Hyper at KD, I think it would be a great addition to the park. As long as it's more along the lines of Fury than I232. As for location, I could see it taking Dino's old spot and wrapping around Grizzly. But I think that RMC Hurler will be announced on Saturday. Anyone else think that Grizzly could benefit from a GCI redo similar to Ghostrider?Count me in. Redo the flat turn arounds into overbank turns and a little smoothy and the ride would be perfect.

^ And then call a lawyer.

I don't know what's worse.... people on our forum pretending to be engineers posting total crap and expecting other people to discuss their drivel, or articles like this written by people who know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the theme park industry trying to convince their readers that they are experts and know more about the subject than the people who built it. I hate articles like this, but they actually make our dumbest posters here look good: http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article95562432.html
My favorite part of the article is the high school physics video, which disregards physics and engineering being two disciplines with two different goals.

^^ Stupid silly gooses, designing the ride themselves, forgetting to get all the permits and approval from the government they need. Lucky for them that no one noticed them building the ride.
Yea, no one noticed the 168 foot water slide that was advertised all over the news.
He caught me guys. My sarcasm skills are not up to par.

"We're not entirely sure what happened, but we believe it's safe now."
Chances are, some odd caveat happened, and that caveat will be added to exceptions (i.e. ride can't be operated if wind is above 30 or guest must be below 6'8).
It's rare to not know what happened. Analytical tools and modeling software can pinpoint nearly anything with a high degree of accuracy.
-
I think it's important to keep in mind that even though this was done in house, the manufacturers of the slide know a hell of a lot more about the physics of water slides than anyone in this thread does. Instead of questioning their knowledge of physics, or the way they designed the slide, or how we would have designed it better why don't we just wait for the investigation to come out? If we had some engineers from Proslide or Whitewater in here then maybe it would be worth listening to their Monday morning quarterbacking about what went wrong (not that they would comment anyway), but the fact is nobody knows what happened, and nobody here knows how to design a water slide.
Some of the posts in this thread have been well thought out, but the posts that are suggesting solutions to specific problems with the design or making assumptions about the physics that were used in designing it when none of us know dick about designing water slides seem ridiculous to me.
Physics and engineering are quite different fields, with the former relying on general solutions to multiple problems and the latter relying on approximations to a specific model.
With that said:
- 1. Any design/machine to be used by people requires a professional engineer (PE) to sign off of
2. The amusement park industry is regulated, inspected daily
3. Any modifications to the slide would require a PE to sign off of
4. Not following these instructions is breaking the law
Becoming a PE is no easy task either, one must:
- - Get a Bachelors of Science in an ABET accredited Engineering program
- Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam
- Work for 4 years, in your industry, under the supervision of a PE
- Take the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam FOR THE INDUSTRY YOU WORKED IN, pass
This doesn't mean that negligence can't happen, but majority of PE's wouldn't risk their career, name, or, at the least, salary for something that does not work.
Also keep in mind that different PE's would sign their approval on their specific parts. An Electrical PE wouldn't sign off on a part that a Mechanical PE should, unless the Electrical PE believes the technical content falls within his discipline.
The best course of action is to let due process run it's part, rather than to claim negligence or incompetency on the parts of the engineers. This situation could be an outlier or a malfunction of a specific part, not necessarily things engineers can be responsible for in most cases.

The fact that this thread is debating Hurler's layout makes my head hurt. Never thought I'd see the day.
Then what would you like to discuss?
You guys realize that RMC never uses the exact layout of the old ride, right? They greatly modify the shape. I can see them adding a bit of track to this. So basically...105 ft tall
Dive over drop
2 more inversions
55 MPH
3000-3500 ft
Actually, they do follow the ground level layout, the path, quite close as that is the reason they generally only have to add support structure to support the new elements. I haven't seen one where they added sections to the layout that deviated from what the coaster was originally. Also, historically, RMC converted coasters have resulted in shorter layouts with Steel medusa and joker being the only two that had the least impact in the length only loosing about 100ft or so of the original layout. Look, im all for RMC working their magic at KD. I just personally think it would be better executed on a new coaster and hurler stay the same with a complete restoration a la ghostrider.
Not a fan of purple, but layout is neat

I enjoy madmax's enthusiasm.
One may be wrong, but there's no harm in being wrong.

So IOE will be working on Mystic Timbers. That solves that portion of the mystery.

There is land clearing behind Intimidator 305
Yeah, for fireworks. They haven't touched it in about a month.
I'll say it again, fireworks are not launched anywhere near that area. They are launched behind the waterpark.
I made a post on the matter earlier, and you can find it.
-I305 employee
Cedar Fair's "Southeast Region" got better tax cuts in Charlotte than Richmond (and reasonably so) so for the time being KD is simply maintaining while money is getting pumped into parks and attractions that will bring in money.FTFY

On the subject of trains I'm heading to the park on Friday, my last visit in 2014 there was 1 train running on every ride except Volcano & Dominator. At this point in the season would I305 at least be running both? That's where I'll be spending most of my time.
There are two reasons why we would run two trains.
1. When the guests in the park reaches a certain threshold
2. When the queue reaches 45 min
With that said, a second train doesn't increase capacity by that much (about a few hundred), as we cannot dispatch the second train until the first reaches the block before the station. A much more effective method of increasing capacity on I305 is increasing the amount of operators, along with support from riders.
