Dude, wow, chill. Somewhere along the line a filter on this site changed my words. I hate that crap lol. When I try to say l.ocker it turns into locker. I lost my cool a bit by saying this is a serious discussion, I do hate this go kart shit that a certain user won't shut up about as if dariens are the main attraction

There is no 100% proof at the moment that they will be gone next season. BUT during my tenure at the park my manager told me that by 2020 that whole back are would be significantly different, and one thing he mentioned was the removal of the go karts. So far everything else he had told me came true, so he is reliable. I never once said they'd be gone next year, but i have consistently said within 5 years, and that's a promise. If lake monster, a new coaster, or parking lot re structuring isn't gonna happen in you "opinion" then iv'e lost all hope for you, there's no reason you should be posting your nonsense on a board about serious theme park discussion, we like to have fun, but your stupidity for the past few pages is really pushing my limits to not completely going off on you. There are people on this board who know what they are talking about, they are employees of this park, have legit sources, or have been a pass holder at darien for 10+ years. Ive been a pass holder for over 10 years, I visit the park at least 10 times a season, and when i was a teenager I was there everyday working for the park, and after work i stayed at the park to hangout. I know darien lake, and unfortunately you don't with the acenine comments you post. And no putt putt will never come back, what part of NO MORE UPCHARGE ATTRACTIONS do you not understand What is with you and upcharge attractions, there are plenty of better things to do that you don't have to pay extra for. I swear if you ran a theme park I think you would just add tons and tons of upcharge attractions and hardly any free rides, and you'd be out of business in a year because nobody was the BS upcharge shit your trying to sell son. So Here Are Brian's Predictions/Facts About The Future Of Darien Lake #1- GO KARTS WILL BE GONE IN 5 YEARS, 7 YEARS MAX, MAYBE EVEN SOONER. #2- BATTING CAGES WILL BE GONE IN 5 TO 7 YEARS IF NOT SOONER #3 DARIEN WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE AND TURN THAT HUGE PLOT OF LAND THAT GO KARTS AND BATTING CAGES OCCUPY INTO SOMETHING WORLD CLASS, WHETHER IT WILL BE A ZAC SPIN COASTER OR A COMPACT COASTER, HELL EVEN A COASTER THAT GOES INTO GALAXY THEATER (***IF THEY DO DECIDE TO PUT A COASTER ON THAT LAND AND DO NOT USE THE GALAXY THEATER FOR ANYTHING***) A WILD MOUSE I'D EVEN TAKE IN THAT AREA. OR IT COULD JUST BE A NICE SET OF FLAT RIDES THAT OCCUPY THE SPACE, MAYBE A NICE S&S COMBO TOWER?? SOMETHING THAT TURNS BLAST OFF INTO A KIDDIE RIDE. #4 THE PARK WILL START EXPANDING DOWN TOWARDS THE ROS PLAZA. WITH A RE-THEME AND NEW TRAINS IN THE WORKS FOR 2015 IT IS THE RIGHT TIME TO START EXPANDING THE PARK AND PUSHING TOWARDS THE ROAD DOWN ALL THAT OPEN LAND IS THE RIGHT WAY TO GO. #5 CUDA FALLS WILL NEVER EVER BE REBUILT. THERE WERE CUSTOM SHORT SUPPORTS MADE FOR THE SLIDE. TO RE LOCATE IT WOULD COST A TON OF MONEY BECAUSE NEW SUPPORTS WOULD HAVE TO BE BUILT, THE OLD SUPPORTS WERE SPECIALLY BUILT FOR A STEEP HILL. AND AT THE TIME I WORKED AT THE PARK CUDA WAS NOTHING BUT TROUBLE, THE MOTORS AND PUMPS NEEDED CONSTANT REPLACEMENT, THE RIDE IS JUST TO OLD, AND I'M PRETTY SURE THE SLIDE PIECES WERE ALREADY DESTROYED. #6 ILL BE SHOCKED IF THE LAKE MONSTER PROJECT EVER HAPPENS. THE LONGER AWAY WE GET FROM THE ORIGINAL IDEA, THE MORE LIKELY IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

Darien lake will not build another go kart track once they remove the current one. To be real, you're from Canada, people in wny who frequent darien lake more than once a year do not care for the go karts, the economy here is bad, nobody will pay for anything extra. What you've once again suggested is to add yet another up charge attraction. Nobody around here gives a crap about go karts, there are tons of places in the area to go kart, dariens are the worst out of all. The park building new go karts is absolutely insane and would never happen.
-
Why wont you give up your lame go kart dreams?? They will be gone its just a matter of time, they sit on a huge plot of land. You say that it'd be too close to the campground but Boomerang, Twister, and the go karts are all already basically in the campground, so why couldn't a compact coaster be added there?? Go Karts make more noise than a coaster would, and that plot of land they are on is too good to waste with go karts. A Zac Spin coaster and a flat or 2 would fit there without issue. It's not like the rides run all night, they close at 10, and all the campers are either at the park till 10 or at the laser light show, so I don't understand your statement about it being too close to the campground, why does that even matter??
-
Agreed. I'd keep the batting cages, they don't take up much room, they're only 2$, and there's always people in line. They don't lose me bey cause there's really no cost to running them. The go karts are constantly driving or idling, soo much gas wasted! And nobody rides them ever because they are #1 expensive #2 they look unappealing to ride, they're falling apart, the track layout is also very boring. RedHawk and slingshot both rake in serious cash. Both are cheap to run, and both are always packed. On top of that both are expensive. For RedHawk it's 50$ for one person, 30$ Per person for 2, and 25$ per person for 3. They are sold out all day everyday. Constantly at least 5 parties waiting in line. Slingshot I wanna sayid 30$ a ride? And is also quite busy.
-
That would never happen too much of a risk of people dropping items onto the track and injuring somebody, just too risky all around. And yes I've been saying move twister forever. Moving it will create more room for a large attraction back there along with the go karts being removed (it will happen in the next 5 years people I promise). My idea has always been to move it by ROS since it's getting a re theme next season and adding twister there would start the growing process of developing the area down by ROS. While they're at it they should paint twister. You could also add a new coaster down by where the haunted house is during haloween. It could either run parallel to ROS and out across the lake over by big kahuna, or even out the other direction into the lake by predator, and even touch down on the overgrown island on predators lake. Theme it as a Bigfoot or stranded on an island theme and add theming and figures on the island. You could add a Bigfoot animatronic on the island and a destroyed campsite if you did a bigfoot theme. Also, GIVE UP THE GO KART BS! They make a little money for the park, but nothing compared to what a world class coaster in its place would bring. The go karts are also beat to crap, the cars are all banged up, there are potholes on the track, there is no theming. And it may be a "tradition" for your family to waste your money on crappy go karts on the way back to your campsite, but I've never heard anyone ever say that in all my years of camping. The batting cages however I do like, and they are only 2$ the go carts WILL be gone eventually and the sooner the better imo. And adding more up charge attractions would just be plain stupid. Darien has a reputation of price gouging as it is on their up charge rides. Guests would be furious to have to pay a ton more to do up charge attractions. Imo adding an up charge attraction would not wanna make me visit the park... It's probably drive me away from visiting.

Not to be rude but man... These 3 posts above me are just purely awfull ideas/views. #1 like it or not in the next five years the go karts will be gone. They occupy a huge piece of land and do not generate enough revenue to be worth saving. Yes you may like them, but theme parks are about money and business. And adding a new coaster in their place will generate 100x more revenue that go karts that only cost 5$ a ride and have the most boring track layout anyone's ever seen. I'm from Orlando originally and if you're ever there check out the go karts at the fun spot, they're insane! I hardly ever see anyone at dariens go karts, nobody wants to pay 5$ for boring go karts, a coaster there would sell TONS more tickets which are 60$ each (I think??). #2 how many times have you visited Darien this season?? Because each I've been there it's been insanely pack from 1030am to 10 pm. Even on days without concerts. And including camping this year I've been to Darien around 10 times. The parks revenue is very high this year according to cnl's income reports. #3 WHY ON EARTH is lake monster not a good investment?!?! The park hasn't seen a thrilling roller coaster in almost 17 years now! I cannot believe you just said that. Darien has added plenty of rides that everyone can enjoy as of lately. Lake monster would put Darien on the map! Wether it's lake monster or any other thrilling coaster, I'll welcome it. I'm hoping someday we'll see a long awaited b&m added to the park, but a looping woodie or dven just a newly designed wooden non looping coaster would be awesome. Sorry to heap blunt guys but someone had to say it... #4 on a side note this year Darien made the option to add a meal plan to your season pass for an extra 70$. I purchased this and I can honestly say it was worth it. Basically you get one free meal per visit. The choices they give are very good, about 15 options, healthy options too, there's something for everyone on there. The food quality was actually really good. And considering a meal is 10$, I used it about 10 times, so it was worth it, and it was really convo isn't not having to bring a lunch or spend too much cash. On our camping trip we packed a lot less food because we are one meal in the park each day, it was nice. The meal plan does not include a drink, that's probably the only thing I'd change about it. Each meal did come with either a side of fries or nachos depending on what you got though! The meals and were definitely a good size for an adult. I also purchased the season long locker rental which was also useful, and it was only an extra 20$! That's the price of 2-3 locker rentals. Only downside was even though you didn't have to pay for the locker, you still had to leave a 5$ deposit for the key. I don't know why but that really irked me. I'm hoping both of these programs return next season as these were awesome in my opinion, worth every extra penny!

This is exactly what I said a few pages back! With ROS getting a re theme and new trains, it'd be awesome to start developing that area and add some flats. I like the idea of moving twister down there and painting it (as long as they can fix whatever's wrong with it). Moving twister would open up some more area near the go karts which could be removed. I also mentioned the idea of the park adding a huss frisbee, these rides are awesome, they have extremely high capacity, and look sharp. Maxair at Cedar Point is exactly what i'd want Darien's to be like. I've been a loyal pass holder at Darien since i was a little kid, and i'm just so sick of waiting for another coaster. It kills me seeing all these parks add coasters year after year and for Darien its going on 17 years without a major coaster. On a side note, since Dariens off season is soo long they could honestly get away with not starting predator till the end of September when the park closes. that leaves at least 8 months for work to be done, and even if it takes till june or july for it to open so what?? Any inside info on what the new theme/colors are? I haven't heard anything on it, doug might know more than any of us at the moment.

Oh man they got rid of fright night field trip and the haunted houses it looks like but having a fall fest is a good step in the right direction. Ok one thing on the dl site that confused me was that on sat and sun it says the park closes at 7 on the September calendar, but some of the fall fest events listed say they go till 8, so does the park close at 7 or what?? I wonder if they'll do the Halloween laser light show. I really like what they're doing to sell campsites for September. On Fridays the park is only open for hotel and campground guests, that's awesome. I also like the fact that they're showing movies on the laser light show screen for campers only on Friday nights, along with all the park time, crafts, and events for campers only on those Friday's that should really make some people book trips.

If that was an option i'd take it, but I believe that the simple T bars have been basically outlawed due to safety, or lack thereof. ROS had those originally and look at the mess of a restraint system they've turned them into now. They'd also have to make the train cars a little longer IMO for these to work because there would still be that middle black box that holds each T bar that would dig into peoples legs like the current trains.
-
Those don't look too bad, just wish there was a way to make the bars attach to the sides of the yellow cushion and bow out a little bit instead of underneath and straight up like that, that way you'd have a bit more leg room. My issue with ROS's current restraints is that with the middle bar and side bars my male parts get crushed from my legs being forced so close together and held in a certain position with a bar pushing into my crotch and one on each side of my legs forcefully holding my legs together and not only digging into my knees but forcing the inside of my legs against the middle bar. its just a HORRIBLE setup. So many un-necessary, uncomfortable features. I remember when it just had a simple T bar, and even then it was still a little rough for male riders. On the current ROS trains, there is a middle black box that holds the middle T bar, that box also digs into my shins. Maybe I am just built too big for this ride, idk, does anyone else have these issues?? What about some hydraulic OTSR's that sit above you and just come straight down to hold you in, the kind that you don't pull on, they literally just come down onto your shoulders. They look similar to King Da Ka's restraints. I've seen these on rides, just cant think of what ride at the moment.
-
In my opinion the restraints on intimidator 305 looks very similar to the King Da Ka ones I posted above, and the ones on Skyrush would require a very large train to be able to fit the chunkiness of those lap bars, and since ROS has very narrow track I don't know if that large of a train would be possible. You can see in the photo below how large those seats and trains are, I don't think the narrow track will support something that large, and that overhangs the track. The trains now really don't have much, if any, overhang at all. Skyrush Restraints

I hate to be a know it all, but I know RoS is getting new trains. I've been there since Friday, and I had a Q&A session with upper management and talked to multiple mechanics. Apparently the park is working with Intamin to create 2 new trains. I'm 100% sure RoS is getting 2 new trans. As I said before, I really hope these new trains get rid of the side bars for your legs, and I hope they are a larger seat to accommodate larger guests. I am not that large, albeit i'm defintley not "skinny" but I can not comfortably fit in the current seats. I can fit, but i'm in pain the whole time. My guess would be that if Darien and Intamin are creating custom trains, putting that much time and effort into it, ROS will get a re paint and re theme. Why would you custom build and paint trains to fit a theme that is just a cover up of six flags' work? I'd really like to see over the shoulder restraints on these new trains. Not like boomerang or viper over the shoulders, but like king da ka restraints. In my opinion I believe these are more comfortable, and more safe. Plus you'l still get airtime, as there's a significant gap between your shoulders and the top of the restraints. Maybe we'll see the return of the mist at the first drop, or some fire effects and cool stuff like that like Six Flags New England did turning S:ROS into Bizzaro. Did anything else come to light during this Q&A?? If there is a re theme happening, and if Twister is salvageable, I think it'd be awesome to move Twister over to the ROS plaza. Not only would that kinda of get that area of the park going in the right direction as far as development, it'd also create room for future projects near the back of the park where the go karts currently are. IF YOU COULD RE THEME ROS, WHAT COLOR SCHEME WOULD YOU CHOOSE, AND WHAT NAME/THEME WOULD YOU CHOOSE?? GO King Da Ka Restraints

I only get to the park about 5-6 times a year aside from our yearly camping trip, each time twister has been closed. Same last season, and if I remember the second half of 2013. I love top spins, so I hope it can be fixed but it just seems like it's never open, ever. And if it opens for a couple days, something goes wrong and it's down again. Constant maintenance issues. Maybe doug can fill us in on the issues?? If they can save the ride, maybe even repaint it and move it over by ROS. As for ranger, maybe I'm thinking of earlier in the season but I'm positive at one point it was just overtaken by 2 feet of grass and weeds. Glad to hear it's taken care of now. If really like to see the water park keep growing, but there really isn't anywhere to expand. Now Darien lake owns a TON of land across the street,,, maybe move parking to across the street, move the park entrance, and build a footbridge or a tunnel under the road and use the old lots for park expansion, both theme and water park. Or move the campgrounds to across the street, and same idea, build a footbridge or tunnel. Obviously this isn't realistic for next year, and it would probably take a couple years to completely move the lots or campground and park entrance and everything else. But it could work in the future.
-
If I could choose (realistic) 2016 additions I'd #1 knock down hooks lagoon and put a new modern water jungle gym in. #2 add a Huss frisbee where twister is or where ranger is, even in the ride of steel plaza IF AND ONLY IF ROS gets a re-theme. #3 add new trains on ROS. I feel like most of this is pretty realistic for a new owner. I don't expect a groundbreaking coaster because of the lack of time from the sale, but hopefully 2017?? Let's face it, twister and ranger are both gone next year. Twister hasn't ran in 1.5-2 years, and ranger hasnt in 2-3 years. Ranger is an eye sore, last time I saw it which was only 2 weeks ago, it was overtaken by weeds. Anyone know why twister is shot?? It's fairly new(er), 2003-2004??

I talked to my water park management source about this tonight. The bucket was removed due to extreme rust on the inside. It was dumping that chips of rust on people, the force of the water was not an issue that was just a rumor. They were supposed to replace it with a water cannon up there but so far that hasn't happened.

Interesting... Ok but my point with the exit passes, each winner at plinko is given exit passes for whatever ride, and they are allowed to use it for everybody in their party, so 50-60 exit passes with each group having 4-6 people would be around 300-360 people maybe even more if you think about the handicapped people that get to come up the exit. The day the exit line was all the way to the gift shop (i'm not exaggerating) was the day of the Florida Georgia Line concert, and boy were people mad that they had to wait 30 min or so to get on in the exit line, even though the standby line was 2-3 hours. People are petty, they should have been happy they won the exit passes and didn't have to wait out in the hot sun on a 90 degree day for 2-3 hours. It was a small group of people getting the whole crowd riled up though. Instead of letting exit passes choose whatever seat they want and making them wait every other ride it would definable be more sensible to just shut down one row in the middle of each train, and reserve it for exit passes. Clearly there is enough people winning these that it would be worth it. Like I said it seemed like there was ALWAYS somebody at each coaster in the exit line at all times. And I understand the concert traffic, getting that many people out one exit is brutal, but I'm wondering if the sheriffs just stood at the camping gates where they were funneling cars out of and did a DWI checkpoint before cars even left the premises. That would be DIRTY to do LOL, but definatley would be sensible and save lives. If they ran a checkpoint at the exits of the shows so cars couldn't get around them them I guarantee you'd catch double the number of drunk drives you would after a normal concert. With the new ROS trans, if it's getting them, are they going to be more fat guy friendly? I'm a bigger guy, I barely fit in the current ROS restraints, mostly because of the stupid bars on the sides of your legs that used to not be there. The guy had to really push down on my lap bar, I was in so much pain the whole ride from not being able to separate my legs in the slightest bit. However this did make me start a diet the day after camping LOL. People that aren't even that big cannot fit into these seats, they are just so compact, tight, and uncomfortable. I really like the B&M standard seats, with the T style lap bar, but it wraps more around you instead of digging into you like ROS's bars do. Just saying it'd be nice to have seats a little wider, and restraints that can support people a little bigger. I'm not saying HUGE people should be allowed to ride, we know how that went in 1999, but these seats are horrible for anyone the slightest bit larger than normal. Hopefully these new trains can solve that. The takeaway from that incident was that I need to slim down a bit though haha! I have seen some HUGE people try to get on ROS, they come nowhere close to fitting, they cant even sit in the seat, and then they make a scene and blame the ride and staff instead of thinking that maybe they should evaluate their size and take some responsibility, it can be quite amusing to watch though. Since you know about 2016, drop us a teaser about some new rides, if there is anything!
-
Ok sorry about the block of text then everyone. I was kind of half asleep this morning too while writing this so sorry for possible bad grammar as well. They would take one party of the exit passes and let them sit wherever they wanted, then do no exit passes the next ride, then take another party. I was thinking they should maybe close one row specifically for these passes considering there is always somebody in the exit pass line, they used to do this with the "Flash Pass" in the SF days.

So i spent 3 nights and 4 days at Darien while camping last week. I live not too far from the park, but its something we like to do each year. We stayed in a lakeside cabin, which was EXPENSIVE, even with the seasons pass holder discount. I believe for 5 people in this cabin for 3 night it was about $1,200. The cabins aren't really cabins, they have wheels, and are more like a pull through trailer, but nicer, not as long, and a little wider. The cabin had 2 queen size beds right when you walk in, a nice flat screen and fireplace, which we did use either of. It had a full size fridge, a stove top, microwave, and toaster all in the same room as the beds. There was no dining area so you had to eat on the porch. There was a back bedroom with a set of bunks, and a nice bathroom with a full size shower. There was also this loft/attic type space, meant for little kids to stay in sleeping bags on. No way an adult could fit up there. I do like the campgrounds at Darien, one thing I did not like was that after the Florida Georgia Line concert, the PAC decided to funnel concert traffic out through the campground, so until 3am there were cars back up for miles through the campgrounds, honking, fighting, yelling, all night.I think the sheriffs had set up a DWI checkpoint at the campground gates, so in order to exit the concert you had to go through their checkpoint, but i'm not positive. Now everyday we stayed the park was PACKED. Yes one day there was a concert, but the other 3 there wasn't, and at 10 am when they open the gates and stop people at the fountain till the rope drops at 1030 there was a full parking lot already, all 4 days. I haven't seen the park like that in quite some time, and one of the days was even a monday. As for the rides, everything was one train, except viper. Rides closed : Twister (been closed for going on 2-2.5 seasons now), Ranger (again, been closed for 2-3 seasons), and honestly that was pretty much it. if something broke down, it was up within an hour, kudos to maintenance. Somebody I went with had a broken wrist, so we were given an exit pass for all the rides, youd essentially go to the "guard" at the entrance to a ride, they'd write what time to come back (however long the line is) and you'd just go up the exit at the right time. What complicated this was the fact that the park has a new game called plinko. You pay 5$ and drop your puck. it lands in one of 5 categories, Food, Games, Attractions, Merchandise, or Rides. You then spin a wheel with colors on it, each category has prizes assigned to each color, there are more yellow spots than green, more green then red, and there is only one black and one orange spot on the whole wheel, those are the big ticket prizes. So whatever color it lands on you then match up to the chart on the wall. Food prizes were a free popcorn for a yellow spot, and at the highest black spot there was 4 free meal vouchers, for games prizes there were just stuffed animals, and whatever color you landed on indicated how big of a stuffed animal. Attractions prizes were free rock wall climb for yellow, and free red hawk (skycoaster) ride for 3 for the black spot. (there are more prizes in between these for each category, just don't feel like typing them all lol). Merchandise ranged from a free postcard, to free antique photo for 2, to a free darien lake hoodie. And now the ride category, so whatever color you land on indicates how many cut the line passes you get, all the way up to 4. A LOT of people win these for some reason. The issue is so many people win these that at each ride the line up the exit of people with these passes was almost as long as the actual ride line. and then you have these people cutting the people who waited all at once. At ride of steel the exit pass line was all the way to the gift shop, and to make things worse, the ride attendant was only taking one party at a time, and then making the exit passes skip every other ride to be fair to the guests who waited in line. Darien needs to figure this out and fast, I thought there was gonna be a brawl in some of these lines, people were MAD. The biggest complaint that I heard was that "I payed 5$ and won this line cutting pass, and i'm waiting in line for 30 minutes to even use it", which is childish because the regular line most of the time was at least an hour and a half for some things. I have a feeling this game wont be around next season, on the bright side I did win a sky coaster ride for 3! Moving on, whoever buys this park really needs to take care of ride of steel, it needs paint BAD, change the colors scheme, re theme it, it looks pathetic. I was on the Ferris Wheel and I was taking a look at the old lazy river floodgate falls, carved out into the hill where cuda was, and its sad to see it in such bad shape. I used to love that thing as a kid, but its unfortunate even more so that the empty plot from cuda may not ever be usable because of floodgate falls. When I worked at the park we decided to ask maintenance when they planned on ripping out the old thing, come to find out they cant rip it out. This thing is actually embedded in the hill, and taking it out would actually compromise the structure of the hill. So to even put anything in that area you have 3 options, leave it and let it be an eyesore, somehow fill it in with concrete and add some dirt and grass over it, or rip it out and pay out the behind to level the hill. Also, WTF is up with this park not replacing the lights on the giant wheel yet. its been a good 6 to 7 years now, cmon people!!! The girlfriend and I always spend a lot of time and money in the old fascination parlor every time were at the park, for those of you who don't know, fascination is a rare game now days, darien's parlor is one of only about 20-30 left in the world. It's kind of like I Got It, and it only costs 25 cents. I took home a keurig machine and kan jam set, so I think we did good. Unfortunately I did not see any markers or signs of anything to come for 2016 yet, but if anyone has any questions just ask!

Yeah it'l be interesting to see who the new owners are. The best thing about Darien is that it virtually cannot be closed down. The land it sits on is pretty much worthless, located in the middle of nowhere and the dirt is too sandy for farming. Plus since the park is so low key my bet is that if CNL HAD to sell it, and they couldn't find a buyer for the price they were asking, they'd sell the park for cheap just to rid themselves of it. Would'nt it be crazy if the Pegula family purchased the park LOL, yeah right. I feel like if a single person buys the park it wouldn't do as well as if cedar fair or premier or a company like that bought it, one person really couldn't have enough money to invest and turn around the park as much as a large company or group could. I just hope this coaster drought ends soon, and it doesn't look like that will happen in 2016. But like my one source said, the plan was to add at least one new ride each year, and I think that will happen, like you said SK610. It's been 16, going on 17 years since a new, real coaster ( Motocoaster doesn't count fools!), this has got to end eventually right...?
