  1. So, the weather forecast for this weekend looks like it most likely going to rain at some point... just not consistently. What's the best game plan for patchy bad weather? Trying to formulate a plan so I don't have to miss out on the major attractions.

A few weeks ago when I flew in from Texas it was raining my first day until about noon. It was a pretty steady rain, not a drizzle by any means. Even though I live here, I have platinum passes for Cedar Fair. CP had MF, Gatekeeper, Rougarou, and Maverick ready at 9 am! I was VERY surprised. It was raining hard enough that I was just soaked after taking a couple Gatekeeper rides. What I learned from the ride ops is they'll operate the rides (except Dragster) in a light to steady rain. It might hurt your face a bit, but deal with it! (as long as there isn't lightning in the area)

As far as Dragster, the policy the ride ops told me is, any precipitation at all will close it, and then it needs about 15-20 min to drip dry some. I got 2 rides quickly by just planning around the rain and watching the radar constantly. Be a smart park goer and you can snake a lot of waiting from the GP who run for cover. I hung out by the MF and Dragster lockers for cover and waited out the rain and got quick rides by being one of the first people to line up waiting for them to re-open.

Oh!! and don't wear a poncho on MF...it won't make it...it tore mine to shreds

  2. Yes, I believe those new trains could be having a small effect. Glad to hear those who visited had a great time! Being from Texas, I visited for the first time last year and I also had the same thoughts about Millennium Force. I had all these expectations and I personally feel it lived up to them! I visited a few weeks ago and got 10 rides including the last train at midnight during ERT for pass holders and it was HAULING. There's no way it was 93 mph at the bottom and the airtime on all 10 rides a few weeks ago was fantastic!

I know I've posted this already, but those new Maverick restraints REALLY helped me out. Being a visitor from a ways away, it helps when rides are more comfortable. Last year as much as I enjoyed Maverick, it was a bit of a pain to fully enjoy it. My visit a few weeks ago it was great to hop on and off at will and hold my arms up the whole time, it really creates a great experience!

  3. I don't mind the twisting so much as just staring at a wimpy bike chain in front of me holding the seat up (Yes I know there's an actual arm behind the seat). I also just am not a fan of the wait for it. Maybe Six Flags had an agreement with Funtime and Cedar Fair had an agreement with Mondial. I have to say that after being on both models, the Modial version is much better. It feels WAY more secure as a rider AND it can hold an astounding 64 people per ride! It can chew up the line which ours is not very good at (especially with SFoT ride ops).

In other news, I gave the JLBFM a couple of spins yesterday. I was VERY impressed with how it turned out, I feel like a lot of people were on the "that was a lot better than I was expecting" train; I was also. The graphics during the shooting scenes really pop out at you and make you feel a part of the action. Good job Six Flags on this one, now like the memes with my hands crossed, I'll sit back and hope for a large new coaster next year or a few thrilling flat rides to bring the park together. We have a great dark ride now, but we have some gaps in our park. I personally hope that Six Flags starts doing what Cedar Fair did and that's totally revamping the front entrances with a new coaster as eye candy. Maybe I'm crazy, but I always believed that they should completely revamp the front, that would give them more room without building into parking like they did with Titan and just make a permanent entrance by Titan like they do on a temporary basis giving them 2 entrances.

  4. I just realized you sick people have a 400 foot Sky Screamer. I'm going to have a heart attack.

I have no problems holding arms up while riding a ride like Top Thrill Dragster, or any coaster for that matter...but this overgrown swing set on a windy day actually bothers me. Am I the only one? I went to Cedar Point last week and their version of the rider I feel much "safer" if that makes sense. You get a lap restraint like on any big roller coaster along with a nice bar in front of you. I just feel too vulnerable on our Sky Screamer. I'm sure that's part of the effect, but.......

  5. How would you all expect crowds to be tomorrow? May 22, 2015. Going with a friend.

You'll probably deal with early Memorial weekend crowds, some school field trips, and military members coming up early as they get a free ticket all weekend starting tomorrow. Throw in sunny weather which is predicted tomorrow and you've got a recipe for a fairly busy day. Probably not a busy July Saturday level, but it could push it.

  6. Went to the Point today for the first time in a couple of years.

Rougarou is now in my top 5 coasters at Cedar Point. It was an absolute blast! It's really amazing the difference the floorless trains make for the ride. I rode in the front row, then the back row. My head hit the restraint just one time on my first ride, and not at all the second time. If you know the layout well, you can avoid head banging by leaning into all the snappy turns like Maverick.

I agree on this, I found at least for me that if I lean a bit forward, then almost any sort of side to side movement stopped for me. I got head banged once heading in the corkscrew, but with the 7 rides I took, that was the only time. The important number is the number of re-rides I took and saw the general public also jumping back in line during my visit last week; even though the line was over an hour long! So it seems Cedar Point made a great decision here, it really was fun to always hop in the line every time I was headed towards MF or Maverick, instead of passing it up like in the past.

Great blog post on Thunderbird by the way!

  7. Some woman was freaking out on Iron Dragon Saturday night, she couldn't wait to get off after she encountered some bugs and she did the dance on the platform like she was trying to shake off millions of them...it was pretty funny, even the ride ops couldn't help but laugh a bit.

I encountered a few on Millennium Force once it got dark and cooled off, granted this was a ride right at the stroke of midnight, but the bugs were making their appearance. I won't forget last year in September when I made my first visit to CP. My first rides on everything had to be the front...I got a good bugging on TTD

  8. I know that they replaced the entire control system on Magnum last season, but I don't know if that is still effected by the rain or not.

I'm sad to see the popularity of Magnum wane so much

    - two trains yesterday

    - removal of the very far back queue

    - less park merchandise with Magnum on it

    - even missing on some of the "fearsome five" t-shirts, replaced with Rougorou

Maybe it was just having a bad day, not being a local obviously it's hard for me to judge. But, compared to my visit last year; the ride ran horrible for the one ride I took Thursday. it just wasn't very bearable even before the finish when you know you're going to be thigh crunched. I wasn't the only one, many people who lined up behind me waiting for Dragster to open after the rain were saying the same thing that it's getting worse.

  9. I know, at least last year, Magnum closes after the first drop falls. They are very careful with the ride after the accident. If it rains all day, they will operate the ride with 1 train. If it rains on and off, they will just close and open it with the weather.

Can't blame them on that one though.

Wouldn't blame them at all because of that, but Thursday when it was raining pretty good; the park had everything open but Dragster of course. It wasn't just a light rain at times either, I got beat up on one of my Gatekeeper rides as the rain picked up during the chain lift. Raptor never shut down either, so they were really loose with the policy.

I was happy because here at my local park SFoT...2 weeks ago they shut the rides down because of "inclement weather"...what it really was; there was storm system about 15 miles away that was going to miss the park; it was still SUNNY and they closed EVERYTHING because of the "threat" of lightning. I couldn't believe it; so with the way CP handled the rain on Thursday until it stopped around noon was astounding in my books.

  10. I'll definitely be giving Justice League a shot. I'm sure it will be very cool and that most of us will enjoy it, but I am a thrill-rider/roller coaster rider primarily. The GP will likely eat it up and think it's great which is mostly the point, I went to Cedar Point the last few days (just got back a few hours ago at the time of this post) and as long as I can fly cheaply to go ride other extreme major attractions, then I will since Titan was our last "major" roller coaster. The TG renovation was great and it's a great ride, but it didn't improve our line-up, and even that was 4 years ago now. I've been stunned that a park that is supposed to be a flagship park hasn't been getting some new thrilling attractions, I'd be happy with some flat rides which our park lacks.

  11. Afternoon everyone!

I just got back home to Dallas after visiting CP all day Friday and Saturday. Even living here, my fiancee and I got platinum passes as we are planning on flying up likely 3 more times, so we took advantage of early entry and the ERT on MF and Rougarou last night.

The first thing I will always give kudos to at CP is the fact they run the rides in rain. Thursday morning was practically a downpour at 8:30 am, but I got back to back rides on Gatekeeper, and 3 MF rides in an hour! I had a rain poncho that didn't make it through those last few MF rides...but I didn't care

I considered it an achievement, but I managed to get 4 TTD rides, it was actually running well with little downtime the 2 days I was there.

I experienced Pinks for the first time and really enjoyed the burger I ordered. It was only my 2nd visit ever to CP so I have a lot of the "places to go" to learn. I'm hoping to come up to my first ever Coastermania on the 5th (looking at flights currently) I'll probably be solo, so if anyone can guide me on the things to do as far as food, etc. and how Coastermania tends to work I'd appreciate it!

Gemini ran empty blue all Friday, yesterday they ran both sides racing.

I really enjoyed the new Maverick restraints, I'm going to King's Dominion in mid-June, so I'm happy to know what I'll be dealing with on I-305. The new restraints made it SO much easier to hold the arms up the whole time and be more comfortable in the transitions. I took 7 rides on Maverick because it was so much more comfortable.

MF had some more giddy-up to it than it did when I first visited last year. I don't know if it's the little bit of extra weight because of the fiber glass trains or what, but I was getting not good, but GREAT airtime on the floater hills. I got 10 rides and it didn't matter when it was raining, or what time of day it was, it really felt like it was hauling some butt. (I also heard from a ride-op that they expect the yellow train back next week.)

Rougarou, I only took one ride on Mantis last year, being a guy, I took a good shot down low and said once was enough. I rode Rougarou though 8 times over the course of the few days, much better I think and the GP really seem to enjoy it. The lines Friday and Saturday were constantly over an hour at all times of day for it. It's fun enough that I had no problem getting in line whenever I'd be on my way to MF or Maverick again, I really enjoyed it, so whoever above thinks it's a bust, my personal opinion is that it's a genius move by CP as it helps bring the lineup together.

I was worried about my visit after the bust of an opening weekend, but CP really got it together and I even ran into Tony Clark to say hi. The ride operators were really trying hard to push out trains, especially on MF with only 2 trains, I got lucky and got the last ride of the night last night and sat in the front and some employees hopped on with us. I thanked them all for their efforts as at times they'd be running trying to get people dispatched these past 2 days.

If anyone ever sees a older lady named Brenda at the Chic-Fil-A by Maverick, (she's usually the one cleaning tables) She's very nice and said she's been there about 6 years, she does a great job so stop and say hi to her and she'll give you some of those yummy good mints!

  12. I'm flying in from Texas this weekend, I'm hoping the rain holds off Friday but scares enough people away to keep it slow. Saturday being a nice forecast with Bring-a-friend day sounds like a Fast Lane day. Hopefully they've got things worked out after a rough start to the season this past weekend. Too bad MF won't have all 3 trains I'm assuming, but, I have some of the worst ride operations imaginable here at home (SFOT) so I can handle waiting longer for better rides

  13. Interesting they went with fiberglass on MF. I'm not an expert and wont pretend to be, but typically fiberglass is heavier which can provide a smoother ride, also probably give MF a bit more giddy-up. Aluminium can take more punishment, but is more difficult to maintain, fiberglass is more flexible, but it's also a bit more expensive. So it seems like it's an investment into MF that could make a small difference in the ride experience in a positive direction.

  14. I'm sure the kinks will be worked out, TTD is running today, Magnum is up and running also, so is Maverick. They're getting it together slowly but surely. Hard to say though on Wicked Twister. It wasn't a case of them not having the ride ready, more of a problem related to another coaster of it's type in another park so they're replacing a part kind of like a recall on a car I believe is what's going on. You both will have a great time!

  15. So according to The Weather Channel, there is an 80% Chance of Thunderstorms for Saturday the 9th. I'm trying to look on the Park's page as well for weather info to see what their radar system is giving them. What are the thoughts? Worth the trip? Or stay home? There's a group of 6 of us that have plans to go, but of the weather is going to be bad and rides closed, we don't want to waste our time.

    Thanks

When I visited in September from Texas I was concerned about weather also. It ended up hitting Sandusky, but not the Peninsula which a worker in HR told me is a frequent occurrence. The most that happened was some light rain and the rides kept on going...MF in the rain hurt a tad...but I didn't care!

  16. I don't know if all the Fridays before daily operations will be like this, but the park was just about perfect today. I got there around 3 as the field trips were slowly departing; all the signs said 10-8 so maybe it was open to the public all day, but the website said 2-8. Anyway, preferred parking was open and Flash Pass was closed. Titan didn't even have a person watching for go-arounds. Everything was virtually a walk-on turning into re-rides as the day got longer. Except for NTAG, where they were taking their sweet time, unfortunately. Oh well, I can hardly complain about one thing, and I think I'm going to make the first Friday in May a yearly occasion.

Yeah I showed up about 1:45 and thought the same thing about the times...dirty liars lol. I really wish they would get it together on NTAG, I enjoyed some Batman and Titan rides, but man, I could only stomach one line of NTAG. When I got in line, I was all they down by the flash pass gate entrance...almost 45 minutes later I was on the ride...I was so annoyed. Where I only had to wait 4 or 5 runs of Titan to get front seat. Good day for some re-rides on the other stuff though.
