  1. The following clip was from a Independence Day Special WBTV (Channel 3) aired here in Charlotte back in 1973 (the first year the park was open). The narrator was Jim Patterson (long time voice of WBTV) . . . Check out how the park looked when it first opened; A few things are still the same (with some minor changes) believe it or not !!!!! Funny how the teens in this video now are all happy middle aged parents/grandparents now . ..
  2. With a new Gold Pass in hand, I made my first of many trips this year to Carowinds Sunday afternoon . . . This was Suzanne's first ever trip as well . . . . Looks like she enjoyed her inaugraual trip as well !!!!!!!!
  3. Glad to see yall enjoyed your trip to CAROWINDS and the TILTED KILT . . I was wondering why 50+ folks just showed up all of a sudden !!!! I thought you guys got caught in the uber bad traffic jam that took place on I-77 South of the Carowinds Exit (Gas Tanker crashed into a car, killing the driver and seriously injuring 2 ladies in the car that got hit . . . Traffic on I-77/I-485/S. Tryon St./Carowinds was all messed up that afternoon) !!!!! If you guys have a FLICKR account, you may want to add your photos to the TILTED KILT & CAROWINDS CONNECTION Flickr pools . . . I'm sure they wouldn't mind . . . . TILTED KILT FLICKR POOL: CAROWINDS CONNECTION FLICKR POOL: I dont know if anybody has told you about this site http://carowindsearlyyears.com , but it has a lot of good information on the early days of Carowinds when it first opened, its founder (Pat Hall; Charlotte Businessman) and what some of the original rides that were in the park. Plus there is a TV commerical clip from an old HARDEES Commercial (from 1976 I think, when Thunder Road first opened) and audio clips of the official CAROWINDS Theme Song and March
  4. Went with my cousin and little nephew to CAROWINDWS on 7/4 . . . The lines weren't as bad as I thought they were going to be . . . I mean, I could've ridden THUNDER ROAD several times in a row if I wanted to (the lines for that ride were non-existent basically). It was good heading out there to check out the new INTIIMIDATOR Coaster, which is good as advertised !!!!! Its easily one of my top 3 favorite coasters of all time (LOCH NESS MONSTER at Busch Gardens-Virginia tops my list). I think my little cousin is going to be a coaster fanatic when he gets older; He was itching to get on the bigger coasters as we went thru the park. He'll probably be ready to ride the big rides in another 1-2 years !!! 4th of July at Carowinds
  5. PEANUTS has been a part of Cedar Point Parks for a long time I think (KNOTTS BERRY FARM has had them forever I think). I think they will do pretty good here . .
  6. Ohhhhhh, this new ride looks soooooooooooooooo sweeet !!!!!!! In case yall missed it, CAROWINDS also announced that the PEANUTS gang will be replacing the NICKTOONS characters next year (I guess the license with Paramount finally ran out). Finally, I will get to tell Lucy in person to lay off of Charlie Brown !!!!!
  7. The log flume ride has been taken out at Carowinds . . . I talked to a ladythe other day at my part time job and she said the park is about to spend $20m on a new coaster but they wont know what it is until August. Hmmmmmmmmmmm, Magnum XL-200 O-R Top Fuel Dragster would be nice !!!! http://www.cedarpoint.com/
  8. First time poster to this forum . . . I like what y'all are all about !!!!! Just wanted to share some photos from my recent trip to CAROWINDS on Memorial Day Saturday. Crowds were bigger than normal due to JOYFEST (Gospel Concert); Tons of church groups were at the park right at the start in order to get their rides in before the concert started. This was my first trip to Carowinds since '07 . . . Considering I'm only 10 mins. from the park, I surprise myself that I don't go out there more often than I do !!!!! First time I took photos at CAROWINDS with my digital camera; I also shot a few videos on a couple of rides (COBRA, Thunder Road, & Scream Weaver). Just follow the link and then you'll be able to find the videos (I'll figure out eventually how to directly upload them to here). MY .02 on CAROWINDS: Carolina Cobra was much better than expected . . . Its a short ride but its a thriller!!!!! I'm still miffed that they took out the SUPER SATURATOR RIDE (cars are in storage). With the area the park has, I don't see why they take out rides !!!!! So much has been taken out of there over the years (monorail, mini steam train, log flume ride in NICKLODEON Area, etc.). I hope at some point CEDAR POINT will start bringing some bigger coasters to the park (Top Fuel Dragster would be a good start !!!!!!). 5/23/09 Trip to Carowinds
