  1. AFAIK, it's still slated for expansion. It seems a lot of people equate "expansion" with "giant new coaster." And sure, who wouldn't want one? But that isn't the first or second thing the park needs. My kids loved the place, and the only complaint we had was that we ran out of things to do in the waterpark sooner than we would have liked. It seems VF's expansion is going to be waterpark-focused, and much as the enthusiasts will bitch about it, that is the right direction.

I agree. VF and CGA both are in need of upgrades. We should not forget that CGA was almost sold when CF and the city of Santa Clara were at an impasse about parking when they started building Levi Stadium next door. That was also when CF's 'Fun Forward' strategic plan came about, with Carowinds and Valleyfair listed as "growth parks." And we VF junkies went on a speculation free-for-all. Things can change quickly. I think CGA moved to the front of the line because of the zoning changes approved by the city of Santa Clara. Had the Army Corps of Engineers and the city of Shakopee given VF the green light to start its expansion BEFORE CGA got its zoning changes, I'd bet that VF's water park expansion would be well underway, if not already completed.

As far as a new coaster at VF, I agree with what most have suggested is the likely placement - some sort of medium-sized coaster on the Dinosaurs Alive site once that lease ends. Fingers crossed for a B&M, but at this point I'll take anything. Also, I haven't heard anything about the fate of Boomerang after it was removed from Knotts. Although Matt Ouimet has stated he's not a fan of ride relocation, there's no indication that the ride was scrapped or sold - plus, it was recently refurbished and got a new train. While Michigan's Adventure seems like the obvious place for it, I wouldn't count VF out of the running for it either.

  2. I thought I'd post this picture of what the slide tower (Thunder Falls) and Tornado slide (Liquid Lightning) from Geauga Lake would look like in the existing Soak City. Panic Falls, Giggle Run, and the Looping Starship would have to be removed to make room. Thunder Falls is 30 feet taller than Hurricane Falls so it shouldn't interfere with it, and the inner tube return belt for Liquid Lightning is tall enough that it shouldn't interfere with Barefoot Beach.

Again, this is mostly to understand the scale of the possible additions.

  3. That frisbee looks way undersized. Valleyfair would definitely get a larger model and that does not look to size.

I used Google Earth images of CP and VF taken at the same eye altitude above ground in order to get the scale correct. That is maXair's actual size if it were placed in VF. Below is a composite of VF, CP, and CW, all taken from 17,335 feet above.

  4. What one do u think is more likely in 2018? A frisbee or a boomerang

I have no idea. But, using the same visual aid I did before, but with maXair from CP, a frisbee could fit in a lot of places.

  5. According to Vekoma, a Boomerang has a footprint of 88x30 meters (289x99 feet). In the images below, I took the Bat from Canada's Wonderland and put it in Valleyfair. This isn't anything specific, just a visual aid to get an idea of a Boomerang's footprint at VF.

  6. Just saw a report on Screamscape of heavy equipment showing up in the employee parking lot. Can anyone confirm that and maybe send a pic? Also, CGA submitted a permit for a 100' coaster. Any guesses as to what it may be?

I can't confirm the heavy equipment at VF, but I'll be stopping by the park tonight after work (weather permitting) and will look around. As far as CGA getting a 100' coaster, that could be anything. Screamscape said it was planned for the area formerly occupied by Invertigo. If that's the case, and the new coaster doesn't go beyond that plot, it's going to be something compact.

  7. Wow,

Valleyfair is getting fried on social media for the handling of Adult Night. Sounds like it was a total disaster and PR nightmare. While it's a good idea it has be planned much better. Valleyfair was scheduled to be fully open on that night anyway, why did they only have a handful of rides? I can see, shut down the kiddie rides but Renegade? High Roller? etc. Ah, well, better luck next time!

Renegade and High Roller not running on ' adult night'? Seriously? They really need to rethink that one, how foolish. If I would have found that out only after arriving at the park I would be a little upset too. Congratulations to the park for having a successful promotion beyond their expectations but it sounds like they really need to step up the execution of it if they blew such simple things like this.

Picture the busiest day at the park that you can remember - a day with 3 train operations on Wild Thing and there's still over an hour wait to ride it. Now imagine if everyone in the park on that day had showed up at exactly the same time. Then imagine that only a handful of rides were actually open. I was there for Adult Night and it really did seem like they were totally unprepared for the crowds that showed up. Honestly, as a person who has visited Valleyfair regularly since 1986, I have NEVER seen such a mass of traffic or people converge on the park so quickly. When my friends and I arrived at 7:05, the line of cars waiting to turn into the park on westbound 101 stretched back past 169. By 8, the line of folks trying to get into the park gate was well over 1,000 people. Steel Venom's line stretched all the way to Wild Thing's turnaround - almost to Flying Eagles.

I'm not mad at Valleyfair. I think a lot of the social media thrashing is overblown. Yes, the park was busier than I have ever seen it, and the lines were so long that you could've spent all 4 hours there and only gotten on 2-3 rides. People paid $15 for 4 hours of child-free access to the park. It's a good deal, even with the limited ride options. If I were Valleyfair, the biggest adjustment I'd make would be keeping the crowd 21+, not 18+. I witnessed quite a bit of underage drinking. The wristbands were nice, but with crowds that big it would be nearly impossible to police it perfectly. I'd also open the ENTIRE park, except for Planet Snoopy. On some day in August, do another Adult Night for 21+, same price, but have everything open. I'm willing to bet the same sized crowds would show up, and the park could actually handle it.

  8. Adult Night got MAD busy. Definitely needed more rides open. I liked the token system for the beer and hot dish. FREE RIDES ON RIP CORD!?!?!?! To any VF employees on this thread: Did the park anticipate crowds this large? Also, North Star looks fantastic at night!

Holy Lines, Batman! It goes back well into the Parking Lot!
