One other thing... I will have room for 1 person in the hotel room/rental car if anyone needs a room and transportation to make the trip work. You'd be looking at about $25/day for your share of the rental car and hotel room (plus gas once we're out there). PM me if you need it and I'm sure we can work something out.

Just a tip from anyone who might be flying out of Newark on Continental who haven't booked a flight yet... I just booked my flight, and found that it was about $60 cheaper to fly out at 7pm on Thursday night than Friday morning. Especially travelling with 3, that's more than $175 cheaper! We still come out ahead counting an extra night at a hotel and rental car, plus we get an extra day on vacation

I think this low sellout is because Kinzel & Co may be scared of the economy, and with a lot of people drawing parallels with Six Flags, they don't want to be around and/or publicly traded if things pan out similarly where the best option seems to be bankruptcy. Not to mention that I'm sure he stands to lose a LOT of money if the company does declare bankruptcy. The other thing that I think really needs to be pointed out is that the company was trading just barely over $9 a share before this deal was announced. It immediately skyrocketed to over $11 (doesn't take a genius to figure THAT one out) and continued trading to the point where I was able to sell all my units for $13, and it actually got up to $13.56 before coming back down, and is still trading in the mid-$11 range. To me, it looks like the value of the company went up about $2.50/unit as a result of this deal. Not a bad feat in the present economy, especially if there were people who WERE interested in getting out but didn't want to do so at $9/unit. Add in the delay of the vote of this deal, maybe they are merely waiting until they get to a more favorable part of their yearly value roller-coaster when the seasonal parks start opening and hoping that if/when this deal falls through the unit price is that much higher. Although we hear reports and confirmations of large unitholders who vow to vote no, for all we know Kinzel et. al. will vote no with their own shares to reap the value increase the deal has apparently created. Maybe I'm missing something here, but as I'm typing this, I'm starting to wonder if maybe this was an interesting move on their part to try to increase (or at least prevent decrease of) the value of the company over the winter inactive months with no intent to actually sell in the long run. Edit: typo

Well I don't know about on a corporate level, but the past 2 years the "local management" at Dorney Park have been making a lot of poor decisions, and it shows in the final product. I and a lot of my friends who are season passholders and go on a regular basis have said the same thing - it's not as fun since there's a lot of "corporate atmosphere", the employees aren't allowed to actually have fun with the guests, and there have been a LOT of very good, guest-centric employees that have been there for years (and thus have a lot of good experience) and interact with regular repeat customers to keep them entertained, coming back, and spending money, who have been fired for very stupid reasons within days of the end of the season just so they don't have to pay out the seasonal bonus. As a result of that short-sightedness, those employees are not allowed to return to ANY Cedar Fair property (as employees), and what's left is a bunch of rookies who are just looking for a paycheck in a poor economy with no team-thinking or loyalty to the company whatsoever. The guests are the ones who suffer as a result. If that shortsightedness permeates the corporate level, then there's no way this deal will go through because they won't be looking at the long term - only the short term (which looks to be making a quick buck before they get out of the game entirely - both on a management level and a unitholder level)

Not sure what happened to my post last night - most of the actual message was missing (probably something on my end since the computer got a little funky and needed a reboot). So I deleted that one since it was useless, and now I'm posting my actual question... I'm going to be registering for WCB tomorrow (when I have money, lol). I have 2 friends that might be going, but won't know by tomorrow. If I register tomorrow and next week my friends find out they can go, can I add 1 or 2 guests at that point (as long as there are tickets left) or should I wait and register all 3 at the same time?

I can tell you from experience that there are NOT any restrictions on residence for the pass upgrades. In fact, I live in Eastern PA yet I've had a SFMM season pass since 2005 when I first attended West Coast Bash, upgraded the event ticket to a season pass, and then just renew online every year since then and they mail me the pass. It's always the first park I go to every year, and I'm actually NOT disappointed and/or disgusted with the cleanliness (or lack thereof) of the park like I am with all the SF parks in my neck of the woods (SFGAdv, SFA, and SFNE) so I like giving them the $$ for the season pass since I can use it anywhere anyway.

My apologies for re-asking. I know I read it somewhere in this thread, but I can't seem to find it. I know the first page/post says that you can upgrade the full price ticket later in the day, but then I thought there was a post somewhere that said Knott's will have their purchasing/processing season passes early... I just want to confirm which way so I do everything properly. Is this correct? Long story short, I do not currently have a CF Season Pass anywhere. I am considering buying a Platinum Pass for/at the event (living 3000 miles away from Knott's makes it inconvenient to get it beforehand). So I'm wondering if I have to go with the non-passholder ticket and then upgrade later in the day, or if I would be able to go with the passholder ticket and buy the platinum pass beforehand. Just want to make sure I have all the i's dotted and t's crossed properly to attend but also doing so for as low-cost as possible (this is a budget-trip for me, unfortunately ) Edit: I already have my SFMM season pass renewed online and they mailed it to me, so that park isn't an issue.

Club TPR's Final Membership Card Design
dannerman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
First I want to say that I LOVE the design of the card! Hmm... I just had an idea that I wanted to share... (and if you choose not to run with it or if things don't fall into place by then, obviously that's ok ) If you achieve your goal of getting everything together by March 1st, you could slip the membership cards into the packets for WCB of the Club TPR members who sign up in time and are going to WCB. That would save on postage and help our contribution to the site go farther. Just an idea, that's all. Again, if the logistics of it don't pan out to be a good idea, then no worries. -
Club TPR Membership Card - VOTING!!!
dannerman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just wanted to quick throw in my 2ยข: I like the logo from jds03 and the overall layout of n7. -
I know it doesn't really matter since it's an example, but isn't 'surname' another word for last name? (And 'given name' what's commonly referred to as 'first name'?) I wish I had time before Monday to work on some designs of my own... Edit: Forgot half my thought when I posted (I really should re-read it at least 5 times when I've been up all night...)

While I haven't registered just yet (still need to discuss specifics w/ my fiancee and make sure I have the time off from work) if/when I do confirm it, it will just be the 2 of us, so I'd be able to pick up 2 other people who want/need cheap lodging and transportation from LAX and split the cost of rental car / hotel / gas. Oh, and I usually get lower-cost accommodations on my budget trips (this is a budget trip every year for me) like a smaller-sized car from Budget and hotels like Days Inn / EconoLodge / Roadway, etc. So I'm guessing it'll be around $25-$50/day for the rental car (split between 3 or 4 people) and around $50-$75/night (split between 3 or 4 people). If anyone is interested, feel free to pm me and we can work out details. I remember back in 2005 for my first WCB I was entirely dependent on strangers who later became friends, so I'll be more than happy to extend the courtesy to others, lol.

^ My guess is that there would be some sort of rule or general respect from the premium members that they would not post stuff not related to the premium experience like perks, suggestions for improvements, premium-only trips, etc. in that forum. For example, when I went to Japan in September of 2008, I was added to a special forum for the trip. All the posts were more "Hi, my name is x and I'm going on the trip", or "My brother is coming along" or "I heard you can do x in Japan, but it requires a reservation so does anyone know of anything along our tour route" and other trip related stuff... Or, in my case, "hey, I'm stuck in Chicago so I'm going to miss the first day, where can I meet up with everybody?"... lol... nothing about parks, general news, etc.

Premium Park Review? (although I don't like the sound of 'PPR') TPR Plus? (So you could have 'TPR Basic' and 'TPR Plus', which could easily allow for various stages down the line like 'TPR Gold' and 'TPR Platinum', etc... like something between the current TPR and Club TPR... or you could have something like TPR Plus which would have $5 store credit and priority for trips; TPR Gold which would be all the stuff previously mentioned and obviously higher trip priority than TPR Plus; TPR Platinum which would have more store credit and maybe even some other perks down the line...) On second thought, that might get too complicated

They'll announce it the day after (if) the stockholders ok the "merger" I also find it interesting (understandable, but interesting nonetheless) that the stock price is now up over $11/share. Greedy little vultures. With the stock price so close to $11.50/unit, I'm thinking of selling now before Dec 31st just so I won't have to worry about the tax implications in 2010. LOL. Edit: Cedar Fair has always been Kinzel's baby. It actually makes sense to me that he'd want to sell it before leaving.
-
Sorry for being last-minute, I just need to know one thing before registering... Are employees of other Cedar Fair parks included in the 'Season Pass' price? I know they get into the park normally for free, but I don't know if it "counts" for this event. (There was an issue this year with Solace that Knott's was not recognizing other parks' employees and they had to pay the "full" rate, unlike years past)
-
Would employees of other parks that get in free be able to get the season passholder price, or the non-passholder price? Normally, we'd just go to guest services and show our IDs, and they give us comp tickets to get in. So it's almost like a season pass since we still get free parking and free admission all summer long (when we're not working at our park, that is.. lol)
