  1. This ride is really looking good in it's new home. I never really liked the setting at Geauga Lake, it was built over a swamp with some nasty water underneath it. KD is doing a good job with the site, looks like some nice pavers are going in and the landscaping will dress up the coaster nicely. This used to be my favorite ride at Geauga Lake. I think everyone at KD will really like it. Great loop and first drop, nice pacing and a fun and interesting layout. I'm glad the coaster found a good home at a nice park.
  2. Not really. Most of CP's Platinum sales (going by previous Maxx Pass and Combo Pass sales) happen because people want a pass for both Soak City and Cedar Point. The Platinum Pass does not really cost anymore than the Combo Pass they used to sell a couple of years ago.
  3. Sure, I'm from the Cleveland area and I'll put in my two cents on Geauga Lake. First, CF has not let this park go. The park has been cleaned up nicely, operations are much better and the rides seem to have better maintenance. What has happened is that the focus seems to have shifted to the water park instead of the ride park. The locals are responding to the park, the water park was packed last year while the rides side was much quieter. I think you nailed it Robb, the focus of the park will be the water park, though I don't think the rides side is going away. Kinzel stated that GL has too big of a footprint for what it brings in. The are moving to reduce the footprint. I think with X-Flight gone, they can pretty much close off the old waterpark area and much of the 50's area. I can see Steel Venom going away in the future also. I think the park will turn into a profitable property for Cedar Fair, but on a much smaller scale than Six Flags had in mind. The park will turn into a picnic park for company outings and a smaller rides park with a great water park for the locals. I do think downsizing is the right thing to do with this park. It will allow GL to survive, even thrive, in the future. Yes, everyone in this area goes to Cedar Point for high-tech thrills. Six Flags was foolish to even try to compete. Geauga Lake's place will be a water park and a smaller ride park priced to make it a very good value for local Clevelanders.
  4. Yeah, but who were the guys at the table? If they were just a table full of coaster enthusiasts their comments were just speculation and mean as much as what the Lemon Chill guy says.
  5. I think you're reading too much into the ride only going 24mph. That speed will seem VERY fast on the Flying Turns. As someone who rode the Euclid Beach flying turns as a kid in the 60's, I can safely say that the ride at Euclid Beach blew away any of the modern bobsleds. The ride was intense, with countless direction changes, and the trains were pretty close to a 90 degree bank in the turns. I would not call it a family ride as it will be frightening to some, and feel very fast and out of control. People here who have not been on a Flying Turns have no idea just how good this ride will be. Knoebels has a winner here, the skeptics will be pleasantly surprised.
  6. LOL - The "SLC" on the shipping tag picture on Pointbuzz is part of the Yellow Freight tracking number.
  7. By looking at outline of the part under the blue tarp in the Soak City parking lot, it is pretty obvious that CP is getting a S&S Screaming Swing for 2006. Something big is coming to Frontier Town in 2007, but I bet it will be either a high tech flume ride or some type of family water coaster. A family attraction is needed to replace White Water Landing. I don't see a 500' coaster any time soon.
