  1. One night at SFOT I had to clean the smudges off my glasses where Titan pressed them against my eyes. That same night Texas Giant was almost smooth and maybe the most intense experience I’ve ever had. There was no line, so we re-rode 3 times before we were exhausted… NO pain.

One trimless backseat ride on Alpie I saw my daughter go limp in the cobra roll and didn’t come out of it until the snap roll slapped her head against the OTSR…I couldn’t walk for a while because my legs and feet hurt too bad. I can’t understand why some people say Alpie is forceless.

  2. I remember being in the diving bell but not much else about it...somehow a bat got locked in it with us and my girlfriend freaked...kinda distracted me. I vaguely remember it going "under water", and seeing sunken boats, treasure, and the like, but It may have just been video. I do remember the thing actually leaked and "Rube" seeming a little disturbed.

I had completely forgotten about the river, but I believe some of the elements are still on the log flume and maybe parts of the flooded mine also. I've wondered why I had this blurred memory of the 2 rides being together. I think it also had a tour guide on the boat.

Where did you find your info, I'd like to check it out.

  3. Titan's 3rd hill seems like you're never going to land. Why did they waste so much of that ride going round and round when the mcb is higher than a lot of 1st drops?

Nobody's mentioned Steel Eel @ SFSW, but I rode it about 15 times one day and every ride/every hill had air . On the bunny hills you'd come out of your seat and not land until the train started up the next one...quite painfull if you weren't paying attention.

  4. What a contrast from yesterday...We got a late start and at 10:00 the cars were backed up all the way to the Sheppard of the Hills entrance. We turned around & went to the outlet malls. At 1:00 we went back and actually found the car we were behind earlier about 1/4 mile from the trolley pick-up in the farthest parking lot (lot F?). We didn't even stop.

One Memorial Day they said there were 50k in the park and it didn't seem as bad as SFOT on any given day, but we'd never seen it this packed so we found something else to do.

  5. I have high blood pressure, and for a long time I was afraid to even get on a coaster. When I finally took a chance, I can honestly say that I felt better having ridden it. Now I refer to them as therapy. Maybe it's just adrenalin, but who cares, my blood pressure is lower, my heart rate is lower, and I have a sense of euphoria that can last for several days.

One day at SFOT I was feelling rotten but didn't want to act like the "old" man... half way up Titan's lift hill, I began to think "this is a really bad idea". By the mcb, everything was great, and I was ready to take on anything.

Inverts are the exception. As much as I love them, my body feels the strain of the g's when my blood gets flung out to my feet.

  6. I had heard horror stories on the forums and from family in the Houston area, but on a vist a couple of years ago, my daughter and I decided to chance it anyway.

It was about sunset on a Friday in June when we got there. The park was empty (maybe 2000 people), and yes, many appeared to be related to various "social organizations"; but there must have been a truce. Everyone acted like each other were long lost friends. When we got in line, we were immediately adopted into that family, and on the next ride we had a new family. My experience was nothing like I expected, and one of the best times I've had in any park.

As far as the park goes: Every coaster was running and we rode them all in 2 hours. Every employee was friendly and helpful. The park was as clean as any I've been in; maybe a little worn, but nothing a fresh coat of paint wouldn't ...hide? The coasters weren't the greatest but they were fun and, and, and...unique, and I would definately go back if I had the chance. (maybe they'll send a couple to Frontier City)

I think SFAW has gotten a very bad rap that it didn't deserve, and I will miss it.

  7. If I may go back to the original topic...I read once that thrill rides were one of the only ways us fat folk can experience the sort of "natural" rush that athletes get... like the long distance runners that go into a kind of trance when they should actually be passing out.

What I don't understand is that if soooo many enthusiests are overweight, why aren't more of the rides designed to accomidate us. For that reason alone, I've never met a beemer I didn't like; even the regular seats are bigger than most others.

  8. It's my understanding that the difference between Titan and Goliath is the helix before the mcb on Titan. It not only feels stronger than the second it lasts at least 6 seconds. It's uncomfortable alraight, being squished in your seat, but it doesn't match the feeling of having all your blood slung out to your feet on a big invert.

  9. I watched my daughter "black out" on Alpengeist. Coming out of the cobra roll, I saw her chin fall down on her chest; I shook her at the MCB, but she just moaned; the first barrel roll slapped hear head against the restraint and she came around. Afterwards, she thought it was cool, but wasn't ready to ride anything for a very long time.

I myself had trouble walking after that ride, because my feet and lower legs hurt so bad. My wife and son were dizzy also. It was our 5th lap in about an hour and it seemed like it was much faster than the first 4. It was also a very hot day and we were all pretty dehydrated. After we "recovered" we spent a lot of time on Appolo's Chariot with no problems. We went back to Alpie that evening but it seemed to suck the life out of us.

I later did some research and found that dehydration is the single most contributing factor. I've also heard that the effects of G's are additive.

I've never experienced Goliaths "helix of doom", but I understand that Titan's mid course helix is much worse. I met a "live-to-ride" dude that told me that a few turns on Titan kept him home the next day and Goliath didn't bother him. Maybe Rob or Elissa can make a comparison.

  10. I'm happy to see a TR about SDC, it seems like most are East coast, West coast, or Great Lakes coast.

ThuNderaTion was very smooth when it was new, but now the bumps are a real distraction. It's still an outstanding mine train. Wildfire has an awesome first drop, with at least 3-4 seconds of air time. I've always wondered why other beemers don't have straight drops. Powder Keg is a great addition, that first hill is crazy.

The park is very busy on weekends and holidays. One Memorial day weekend, I remember they said there were 50,000 people. It's much different during the week; even in peak season I've seen it with less than 3000.
