  1. Finally catching up on this report Chuck and I can say that it's a pretty Fantastik, Soopa Doopa, Awesome report! I love all the call backs to the changes from previous trips you had at these parks and it shows that parks really try to update their parks to the visitors best interests. I love the captions! Can't wait for more!

Amazing! Big Lego fan here and their sets are only getting crazier!

^Jim reached out to me and I gave him permission to post this here.

Thanks Elissa. LEGO has been coming up with some pretty crazy ideas lately. It is really making my bank account empty real fast. My boys also love all the LEGO Super Mario Sets. They play with those for hours!

OMG. .that is the coolest thing ever. . and I'm now so sorry I looked, because I want it. .   but I know I dont' have the space (or the self control to take the time to build it).

HOWEVER. . on the site?   they also sell this - which has already made it into my shopping cart. . . . dang it!   LOL

Thanks Bert. I find putting LEGO sets together to be relaxing but some people can find it frustrating. That ATARI (and the NES) set is amazing. I love all the little details within those sets!

  3. LEGO is amazing! You can create almost anything with LEGO's and when it comes to designing roller coasters and theme park attractions, LEGO can be a way to show everyone's creativity at their finest. LEGO has also released some of their own theme park related and roller coaster sets in the past. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the latest LEGO Loop Coaster Set. Below are some pictures of me putting the set together and then the awesome details that this set has.

If you have ever created a LEGO set related to theme parks, like roller coasters or rides, we would love to see it on Theme Park Review. If you want to share, feel free to post in this thread, or you can create your own thread. I think it would be great to see everyone else's creations and designs.

I got my hands on this really awesome set! My family and extended family got me this as a Christmas gift this year...it was awesome AND a surprise!

    002.thumb.jpeg.f0c3100fa43c0f6ba05e763c3ec3301f.jpeg

But of course my son just wanted to play in the box that it came in.... kids ......

    003.thumb.jpeg.05950cbaf93b0fa541dd7ee271efabbc.jpeg

This box is so cool. I didn't want to open it because it looked so cool.

    004.thumb.jpeg.9dbac2c10eca8d1a54cf6cefe8158fe6.jpeg

Some pretty fun details all around the box.

    005.thumb.jpeg.f0bdd99914fa612d74d978b3dd84e524.jpeg

I thought it looked tall from the picture on the box...but I would be lying if I said I wasn't surprised how tall the set actually was when it was complete.

Time to dump everything out on our table. This was my battle ground for the next week to put this thing together.

    007.thumb.jpeg.1b5afb3787717c8dc813200bf7b192d3.jpeg

Everything laid out on the table and I'm ready to tackle the instruction book!

    008.thumb.jpeg.61e74b3b963117f9705a382270178a7d.jpeg

Bag Number 1 Complete! That was a fun way to start!

    009.thumb.jpeg.41dd02b0ec9079bb344b6d7852aa2238.jpeg

Bag Number 2 Complete! Starting to look like some roller coaster footers are being placed.

    010.thumb.jpeg.6da18eb479e78d76fe446c96cb65e6d5.jpeg

Bag Number 3 Complete! Already placing track pieces? That was fast!

    011.thumb.jpeg.b6212f18b3d49ad2e9af130080dfdb9b.jpeg

    Bag Number 4 Complete!

    012.thumb.jpeg.8d8575e1a9b071d099c2809867945fa3.jpeg

I realized at this point, I needed to switch to the longer side of our table as this build was going to be a lot bigger than I anticipated!

    013.thumb.jpeg.581bb13b119b4b23227ce3c041524dc5.jpeg

Bag Number 5 Complete! Not a lot added from this bag, but still fun seeing it come together!

    014.thumb.jpeg.f24a810e1fe8d547231c10c8b23382a2.jpeg

Bag Number 6 Complete! More track, the entrance sign and stairs were added.

    015.thumb.jpeg.f1b2feaeb3638d81e828b55ebfa0208b.jpeg

I love LEGO's sense of humor in all their sets. These signs are hilarious!

    016.thumb.jpeg.56eab9eeb659b20d92a7ee8920f4c773.jpeg

Bag Number 7 Complete! The loops are already complete and I'm only half way through the instructions!

    017.thumb.jpeg.a5f994380a84df9bccf9dcca78b56252.jpeg

This goes to show you that even LEGO makes mistakes on their instructions. If you know...you know...

    018.thumb.jpeg.fe766ffcacfcd97cd19f756486c3a81c.jpeg

Bag Number 8 Complete! This piece doesn't look like much, but this bag took me the 2nd longest out of all the bags. You will see in a little bit which bag took the longest.

    019.thumb.jpeg.3bebaddbd9121e16413edc9c23cfb73b.jpeg

Bag Number 9 Complete! Starting to see the drop come together!

    020.thumb.jpeg.30e765889e1d40a24604e7381e237dbf.jpeg

    Bag Number 10 Complete!

    021.thumb.jpeg.8c15da80ad8a01e125fe7cd595b79c86.jpeg

Almost done with Bag Number 11, and this was the crucial step of connecting the 2 separate pieces together. I'll admit...I was a little nervous something would break...

    022.thumb.jpeg.466edace9f222b909815285e436f9e64.jpeg

Bag Number 11 Complete! It came together pretty easily.

    023.thumb.jpeg.9baf1bbb5d65a88e573618aa75816dee.jpeg

Bag Number 12 took the longest out of all the bags. First, I had to build the large "elevator" section. And then......024.thumb.jpeg.8fae40117dc93e3dc15697cf6b2d508e.jpeg

...I had to make sure I had 222 pieces of the lift chain!

    025.thumb.jpeg.6985fe825c6bc41ddb46f4428ac2a189.jpeg

I had to do this step 222 times!!! It was tedious but satisfying at the same time.

    027.thumb.jpeg.153a71c65299f0ef08e6ef22261974dd.jpeg

I decided to split it up in groups to make sure I didn't lose count.

    026.thumb.jpeg.364507951a6c691bd1ad44d94485485e.jpeg

The "elevator" section before the lift chain was attached!

    028.thumb.jpeg.9930b2b7208a7869b54080a7496d1463.jpeg

Bag Number 12 Complete! Tower has been completed!

    029.thumb.jpeg.9a62578a007720f31bf9cdb7af3b3559.jpeg

Bag Number 13 Complete! Added the portion of track that the coaster will sit on while going up the elevator!

    030.thumb.jpeg.4d55787da7becb051ed371aadb17205d.jpeg

Bag Number 14 Complete! It doesn't look like much was added, but almost all of the gears and cables were added with this bag.

    031.thumb.jpeg.1fe3ce08fea10b4da8df4971755418aa.jpeg

This little red handle is the most important piece of the entire build! If you had a LEGO Motor function, this is where it would go to run the elevator continuously.

    032.thumb.jpeg.c0d0f9bebf23059ca91890f03124566a.jpeg

Bag Number 15 Complete! THE ENTIRE SET IS COMPLETE! Now let's check out some fun details of this ride.

    033.thumb.jpeg.8bbca6115a8adb783bc7dd18fcd2cc53.jpeg

When going to an amusement park, everyone needs pretzels and hot dogs!

I love this guy selling balloons on his bike! I love his outfit and everything. Reminds me of some fun loving people here on TPR!

Any set with a squirrel is a winner in my book. Also, if you know LEGO, you can recognize some of the other larger LEGO Fairground builds.

    037.thumb.jpeg.ed66336811aa2d32396ea9e2c64000f4.jpeg

Let's look at the fun coaster station now...

    038.thumb.jpeg.813c15d2f6c742d0b238833c34706607.jpeg

Fun little details within the station.

They have pictures taken from the ride camera (including some taking the squirrel on the ride).

    040.thumb.jpeg.9c2334d2d3cc8dd64a4000ff4570921d.jpeg

The ride operator has their own area of the station with buttons for the ride.

Time to take a ride on the elevator lift!

    042.thumb.jpeg.e9508b7e7d1c57c8f26f78895822bfd2.jpeg

It really is such an awesome set.

The view from the top of the drop!

    044.thumb.jpeg.84bfba21b5c93e1e3a5385f9c5cfb7aa.jpeg

What is great about this set, unlike some other LEGO sets, is that our entire family enjoys playing with it. It is interactive with the coaster traveling through the track and all the minifigs that we can switch out on the ride. Changing things up with this set is a blast for my boys and it's not some static LEGO build that will sit on a shelf and collect dust. They have played with this set nearly every day since I have completed it.

    045.thumb.jpeg.6e6037f6d80f6d89854c95faf11f50ef.jpeg

And mostly, they try to derail the roller coaster! HAHA!!

    Thanks for reading.

AGAIN, If you have any LEGO creations related to theme parks, roller coasters, rides, we would love to see them! Please share them!

There's a list of temperatures that Dollywood's rides can operate in on their website: Dollywood Ride Temperature Guidelines

I love that Drop Line can run as low as FIVE degrees.  That'd be one chilly plunge!  🥶

I would ride Drop Line at 5 degrees at nighttime during the holiday times because that view from the top was amazing with all the lights around the park.

Yes. Unlike most American seasonal parks that do Christmas events, Dollywood and Silver Dollar City are fully-open except for the water rides (weather permitting). All rides, coasters and areas are open.

Speaking of Water rides, I remembered from my last visit that Blazing Fury had a water section on the ride. Has that section been removed or was it turned off because it's not the summer? "Fire in the Hole!"....which was then put out by not splashing in water.

I love Pigeon Forge, it's like the worst most perfect place on Earth!  I kind of wish Branson was more like Pigeon Forge. Great TR as always!

Thanks Elissa. I was supposed to have one more day in Pigeon Forge to enjoy the sites, but the weather was not cooperating with me on this trip. Pigeon Forge seems like the kind of place that you can't do everything during one visit so you are forced to come back...which isn't a bad thing. I just hope that I make it back sooner than a 16 year gap like it was for me this visit. A LOT has changed since 2006.

Great report so far, keep it coming!

Dollywood runs the entire park during the Christmas season?

Not sure if Dollywood runs the rides throughout the year. I'm sure they have to close some when it gets really cold. I was fortunate to visit earlier in the Holiday season and the weather was great.

good timing, . .  I'll be at Dollywood for the 1st time (ever!) in less than 2 weeks!

really enjoying so far, and looking forward to the rest!

I hope you enjoy your visit Bert. It really is a great place to get lost in the scenery, food, shows and of course rides. If you are a show person, make sure to check them out because I have heard they are amazing. They have a schedule of the shows at the front of the park which I felt was easier to navigate than their APP. I didn't really see any benefit to the app other than checking rides wait times but even those weren't very accurate. It said 15 minute wait for Lightning Rod and it ended up being a walk on!

Always good to see a JimmyBo PTR.  As far as your question about getting old, I think it would be better if you just said you were "classic"

Larry, we all are classics in some way on the Theme Park Review Forum! Haha! I forgot to look at the Park Index before I went on the trip so I didn't know which rides signs you needed. Hopefully you can use some for the Index!

  6. Part 3 - Pigeon Forge

If you are visiting Dollywood, you need to spend some time in Pigeon Forge. This area has pretty much EVERYTHING you can ask for, and some things you didn't really know you needed but can enjoy as well. Unfortunately for me, one of my days in Pigeon Forge was cut short due to some nasty weather in cold rain, sleet and freezing temperatures. There is so much to see but make sure to do your research and enjoy what you want to do while there.

    Enjoy the pictures!

    001.thumb.jpeg.953dc1ff37917eb14cd020aa1d3db214.jpeg

No one is paying me to say this, but this place was great and just off the main strip in Pigeon Forge. Great breakfast and great price!

    002.thumb.jpeg.cfd0b94da758b8c62298dc4cf86eb449.jpeg

One of like 50 different mini golf places along the main strip. This one was right across the driveway to my hotel.

    003.thumb.jpeg.562ed8326e2b2d3e452e3bdc63835301.jpeg

You can mine for gems just like in Stardew Valley!

    004.thumb.jpeg.493b677371bd4ac2e9b6dc69598f7933.jpeg

One of like 46 different go-kart tracks along the main strip. I didn't get a picture of it, but the best one I have done in Pigeon Forge was Nascar Speed Park.

    005.thumb.jpeg.adf0526e9a3683ddef62d781705da78b.jpeg

When there's a dinosaur, insert Jeff Johnson joke. I have had my fair share of those jokes so I will leave this one up to everyone's imagination.

    006.thumb.jpeg.512c1e4e8c6eceeb15b370f4294125ee.jpeg

There are a ton of strip malls along the main road and they all offer different types of things. I mean who knew that right next to Ice Cream you can do sports and then eat fudge and then have black bears tell you that Jesus Saves! Great entertainment just reading some of the stores and signs.

    007.thumb.jpeg.1926e9bd6493a01605801a6ccdb8f937.jpeg

A classic? A rip-off? A local gem? A conspiracy theory that dinosaurs really are roaming our earth and they only live in this attraction? You decide!

    008.thumb.jpeg.b036c8cd805121380c5ccab1f53de24f.jpeg

It's nice that some restaurants have mascots that you are about to eat. Looks delicious!

Johnny Depp now showing his acting chops in Pigeon Forge. Come see him nightly at "Pirates!"

    010.thumb.jpeg.4fcf96c65acdb427b08e6b03ee9af413.jpeg

There is absolutely nothing funny about the color scheme of this building.

    011.thumb.jpeg.895eeca140e55dcea9d1a1899b85304b.jpeg

One of 63 different types of Arcades throughout the main strip.

    012.thumb.jpeg.ee5db4e0ef904d1efd176ec64d5fe8ad.jpeg

It looks like the storm was a lot worse than feared! An entire building has flipped upside down! But the trees remain perfectly intact in the ground upside down...not sure how that works!

    013.thumb.jpeg.a13c5bedb11e1356cf60315c783fecad.jpeg

There are a ton of dinner shows all along the main strip. I have heard nothing but great things about this one.

    014.thumb.jpeg.bfa0c1e5895f3dbc76b8ee2cef3aba72.jpeg

Plus, a dinner show that shows you the live animals that you are about to eat for dinner is always a win in my book.

Hogwarts is even in Pigeon Forge! Who knew? But in all seriousness, this is a great attraction for kids and families and well worth the price tag.

    017.thumb.jpeg.a155daa341e67763df7d2c322ef086ee.jpeg

The "other Hogwarts" though...might need some magic to convince people to enter its castle.

The Hollywood Wax Museum is like Madame Tussaud's...but it's in the South.

But I couldn't figure out is King Kong was made of wax or not.

If Mt. Rushmore was built in the 1970's instead of earlier, these would be the faces on the mountain.

The Island in Pigeon Forge is an area with attractions, restaurants, rides, hotels, and just a lot of different and unique things.

    023.thumb.jpeg.51da1dad0165832eacbae07dd062c2f9.jpeg

They even have a Bellagio Fountain show out front.

    024.thumb.jpeg.699d5b43b58c5d9d02bbd2a1c71ba11f.jpeg

Pretty sure some people will be wasted away again in the Margaritaville Hotel...and I mean WASTED!!!

    025.thumb.jpeg.8220f78a1450e87eb2d8e862a8ccc0ff.jpeg

SkyFly in Pigeon Forge is like a Soarin' ride. It has a unique pre-show and a fun concept that you are in a steampunk-esque type of hot air ballon. Did I ride it you ask.....

    026.thumb.jpeg.5491181b730f935ebb28172a8da8f265.jpeg

Since it goes to places that I can see in my backyard, I did not ride it. Plus, the ticket prices were pretty steep so unless there was a multiple attraction pass, I wouldn't spend money on this since I love Soarin'.

    027.thumb.jpeg.bfe7578284a93fe5fbf387102e0721a0.jpeg

I wonder how tasty the pizza is if the employees have been "baked" since the 70's.

    028.thumb.jpeg.a37d5a296605578b722f5c028575eada.jpeg

There's also a coaster credit for those of you that keep track of that sort of thing.

    029.thumb.jpeg.6eb75701056c5c7fc75dc6ba15d8a1b9.jpeg

And one of these giant contraptions as well.

    030.thumb.jpeg.57819f41b7239e5b066366063182de82.jpeg

Construction workers were adding some other rides so it looks like The Island will have a lot of newer rides in the near future.

    031.thumb.jpeg.8d79eccdae9f4a4ef4270d9b2e25b138.jpeg

This thing was massive! A 200 foot tall Ferris wheel. The views on top were amazing!

    032.thumb.jpeg.2deabb1a2c1ee6737289683479f213f5.jpeg

It really dominates the skyline at The Island.

I don't know how many more D's you can have.

Goats on the Roof where you can see LIVE  B    ABY. GOATS! (more about this place later)

    035.thumb.jpeg.01d82658c5c4c335f68575dc89b01e33.jpeg

Goat Coaster! Fun fact, there are like 15 different alpine slide/mountain coasters throughout Pigeon Forge. I have read a lot about some of them and look at videos of others. Out of all of them, this was the one I heard great things about.

    036.thumb.jpeg.f184aabc6279b9b55b14c45bac6aa2eb.jpeg

This mountain coaster was a lot of fun. It wasn't like some others where over the half the ride is the lift hill. This was also a nice relaxing ride through, over and down the mountain.

    037.thumb.jpeg.760a902054472d5662d3b80d8e8243c7.jpeg

Plus, they had some fun photo ops in the parking lot.

    038.thumb.jpeg.4b484c015d07f0b844c9e40da696907d.jpeg

And of course, LIVE  B    ABY  GOATS!

    039.thumb.jpeg.a5359fc574a9d4b759ed05f069e9a396.jpeg

Another fun one was Alpine Coaster. Unfortunately, I didn't see any bears.

    040.thumb.jpeg.4b179f2c359665ea0ecc081b6e88fc97.jpeg

This one had another unique layout and I thought it was actually faster than Goat Coaster but not as long.

    041.thumb.jpeg.336b4bf9b56c444b7c7c78a3ea4cb932.jpeg

But this place has the most unique ride out of the alpine slides/mountain coasters...042.thumb.jpeg.d69788dd375d2f40038e1a50fe72395d.jpeg

Again, another Bear...and this one likes to get Rowdy!

    043.thumb.jpeg.525f5f58711ee899960108926ac430d8.jpeg

Here it is...the weirdest thing I think I may have been on. Part chair lift, part suspended coaster, part mountain coaster, and part shooting ride.

You sit in these chair lift type seats and your speed is controlled throughout the entire course of the track. While swinging through the track, you are supposed to shoot targets scattered throughout the ride. Once I found out how freakin hard the shooting part was, I just sat back and enjoyed the ride.

    045.thumb.jpeg.a1987ae115d1c2716524d32d0d33809b.jpeg

They had other things here as well, like a playground for kids.

    046.thumb.jpeg.06d4d703b46f404b6e512c360792f9df.jpeg

And since I was there in the winter, they had Snow Tubing! That's pretty awesome!

    047.thumb.jpeg.3051f570d0616be6999eff6e6dab0eaa.jpeg

As I head back to my hotel, the architecture around Pigeon Forge is definitely something to see. I love this type of stuff and just enjoy seeing the weirdness around the main strip.

    048.thumb.jpeg.0aa02df274efb6a47ff80617f6be53f3.jpeg

Oh yeah, and if you want to learn about how a bunch of people died on some famous cruise ship where a girl couldn't move over on the piece of wood she was laying on and her lover died in the cold water, they have a museum for that too.

    049.thumb.jpeg.56cf282c1d29fa7caf8a97b3d2e8bd98.jpeg

Since I love candy, and I love Mini Golf...I decided to hit the green (or sugar coated wasteland) at this mini golf course!

    050.thumb.jpeg.bd5c7b20978e5b097089ef86fd3e1b9b.jpeg

They had some unique elements, like the atomic bomb candy mushroom? But they had 2 courses, one of the roof and outside, and one inside.

    051.thumb.jpeg.edea9bce898691cb9a87c5205b923a2b.jpeg

And if you wanted to spice up the way you play, at the beginning of each hole they had different things for each member of your party to do!

    052.thumb.jpeg.3265d79f7b6332db02bdd2be2efde337.jpeg

    Selfie! #cravegolfclub

    053.thumb.jpeg.bb0cb42e8c3681f16512962e1158bb6d.jpeg

I will have to admit, I really wanted some candy after playing through all these holes.

    054.thumb.jpeg.b12811c7d32e0a1872f977e2d61a1d8c.jpeg

But then I saw that they spilled a whole bunch of cocaine...I knew the candy wasn't safe to eat.

    055.thumb.jpeg.29f1e316986781749e7883790603481a.jpeg

The inside section was nice and had a Christmasy theme to it.

    056.thumb.jpeg.325a8371466019d351da70d30eb4592a.jpeg

I really wanted to eat these guy's faces off after they were laughing at me for being so bad a mini golf. I still had fun though!

    057.thumb.jpeg.97d67fe17ba3344a7f5efc3068cce982.jpeg

Oh man...I think someone ate the candy and couldn't make it to the bathroom.

    058.thumb.jpeg.4a578f9e9bdcb40c10596a19fa43f71e.jpeg

The Gingerbread house hole was a nice touch. All in all, this mini golf course was really fun and had a lot of unique holes to it. Plus, having to do something different before each hole was a fun twist on the game.

    '059.thumb.jpeg.3362741b2f0088adbb4aae71f45b6029.jpeg

If you thought the daytime looked cool along the main strip in Pigeon Forge, you'd be wrong. It's a lot like Las Vegas, daytime looks cool but nighttime and how they light up all the attractions is really awesome.

    060.thumb.jpeg.4fcb97d501668ded955a27e5f64131b1.jpeg

Until next time you awesome little money taker!

    061.thumb.jpeg.0e86ce6f71de703492344dffab86b761.jpeg

I also saw these cute little guys all throughout Pigeon Forge. So if you see them, tell they I say hi!

    062.thumb.jpeg.74e8de529752d6c3a641a09a3cf8451c.jpeg

    And that's it.

I hope you enjoyed the report and if you haven't visited Dollywood or Pigeon Forge during the holiday season, it is a must for anyone who loves this type of stuff!

  7. Part 2: Dollywood at night.

There is only one word that can explain Dollywood at night ... "WOW!!!!"

I mean this park goes all out during the holiday season and it was so much fun to walk through at night time. Even for people that don't ride rides, don't go to shows, and don't eat delicious food (those people are weird but there are some) just walking through Dollywood at night time during the holidays is a sight to behold. Each area of the park has a different "color theme" and it was so unique and fun and really just a great time.

    Enjoy the pictures!

    62.thumb.jpeg.06523110f7a1a78c53d4c0beda148dfd.jpeg

We will start off in Wildwood Grove. Lots of trees with beautiful lights.

    63.thumb.jpeg.d6f5c84c9e30a4723483a759991f0510.jpeg

This is the Wildwood Tree! There are a ton of butterflies that light up the entire tree!

    64.thumb.jpeg.ae14f89b52174323de348e87a2091023.jpeg

The walkway into and exiting Wildwood Grove. It's like walking in an ice cave...really neat.

    65.thumb.jpeg.a67e8b3b5b8ced1e689ffd1d305c1f80.jpeg

I even met "Big Bear"! He was standing out front of his new ride that's opening next year. He was fantastic and he didn't eat me so that's always a plus!

    66.thumb.jpeg.c8a5e3dd19cc9de35d130193c532dfe8.jpeg

Now it's time to take a walk through Glacier Ridge. Everything was lit like there was ice all around us. It sort of reminded me of Antarctica.

    67.thumb.jpeg.48af978d63d94dcef8df0b2726828e6d.jpeg

The trees even had icicles falling from them!

    68.thumb.jpeg.9fdc580227d6fb5c193236536d1121c8.jpeg

Now it's time for a stroll in the Arctic Passage...much like the Gates Passage going to Antarctica.

    69.thumb.jpeg.1495820f8c70b31f02fe0c87e449c908.jpeg

This was much smoother and a lot more prettier than the Gates Passage!

    70.thumb.jpeg.fdabb281104315145b0142631ffe6662.jpeg

Drop Line was pretty awesome at night. The few from the top and looking at all the lights is a must...even if you hate Drop Rides!

    71.thumb.jpeg.f54a74689ea5d034a9b81ce048b17c6c.jpeg

Mystery Mine was looking pretty ominous at night.

    72.thumb.jpeg.6fadb65af3be497f5856c980a4b0389a.jpeg

Now that is one giant Christmas Tree! They had a tree lighting ceremony too.

    73.thumb.jpeg.981648bb6357167a47d588067aa31050.jpeg

You can see Wild Eagle behind the beautifully lit trees. And here's where I say it again....THROUGH THE TREES!!!

    74.thumb.jpeg.6c402ae54a4c177ab4670aa2c1d9e387.jpeg

This was the best area of the park. This section between Tennessee Tornado and Blazing Fury was covered with these hanging lights and they were twinkling to a soundtrack. There were times when it sounded like there was a storm going by, just the sound of ice melting, and then twinkling bells and the lights changed throughout all that. It was really cool to stand there for a couple minutes and just enjoy "the show".

    75.thumb.jpeg.310de78956a16ecea77c825435dd1ffa.jpeg

The chapel was beautifully lit at night as well. THROUGH THE TREES!

    76.thumb.jpeg.9fbce3e6fcaf0c66259f6cab2813d519.jpeg

The Cinnamon Bread Grist Mill reflection looked like those old school double Ferris wheels that can be found at fairs all over the country.

    77.thumb.jpeg.2effd4a21b4e1e3b7cf3b474042522cd.jpeg

The huge trees throughout the park had different types of lighting throughout. Some colored, and some white.

    78.thumb.jpeg.3174b2ed871b38dce77ba5f5bcf553b4.jpeg

Time to visit Dolly Parton's Home.

    79.thumb.jpeg.171923fe42599f5889b44babfb166c67.jpeg

I loved their use of wall paper in their Country Mountain Home.

    80.thumb.jpeg.2b62154c698b3099411dcb86c3a713ad.jpeg

There were even presents that Dolly hasn't opened in all these years!

    81.thumb.jpeg.2e48d39caa9c72b936f2c9d1b72f4306.jpeg

There was a wall of white on the way to another section of the park. Pretty awesome to see.

    82.thumb.jpeg.b5b2984ae9264f4f9ecf92539bbabd02.jpeg

The Christmas Train was decorated and the trees around the station were all festive as well. The line for the train was probably an hour wait so I did not partake in it this year but heard from other people that it is totally worth the wait to take a Christmas Ride through the Smokies!

    83.thumb.jpeg.60a6a0391f3735deca1b48a9692989b0.jpeg

Out of all the sections of the park, this area near The Village was my favorite. I just really liked how the lights were stringed on the buildings and rides.

    84.thumb.jpeg.a9a9cdd0350e653820f5ff14cc1bb5b0.jpeg

There was still entertainment going on throughout the night.

    85.thumb.jpeg.25470f887979ae1f331b77bd0179309c.jpeg

The Carousel was pretty magical at night!

    86.thumb.jpeg.05a56b45b00fa625e6f9213c0e87e1fa.jpeg

Kids could even get their pictures with Santa!

    87.thumb.jpeg.766884c2e539731daecc946365422dcc.jpeg

Another well lit building. Again, ii really enjoyed this lighting scheme out of all the other ones throughout the park.

    88.thumb.jpeg.22cba2b61146bf5cdb5cae64dacb75b5.jpeg

    Giant Holly Tree!

    89.thumb.jpeg.8a2d1a060316ce6052a0001c101a1410.jpeg

The Country Fair section was lit up like Peppermints and Candy Canes! I wanted to eat everything.

    90.thumb.jpeg.076feb469ec3c7c0a8a5baa7820d3786.jpeg

The Demolition Derby looked delicious for destruction!

    91.thumb.jpeg.2bb802fc7315413dea3d46b303bc76e7.jpeg

And the Waltzing Swinger looked very patriotic.

    92.thumb.jpeg.e51dc3809988fc17f725bbdf087f62d0.jpeg

Alright...Lightning Rod at night was pretty damn fantastic. Riding in the back row and traveling throughout the course of the track in pitch darkness was awesome! The Quad down at night seemed a lot faster than during the day.

    93.thumb.jpeg.54850fe63d7b40259448c2ac770edca6.jpeg

There was a nice Retro feeling around the Lightning Rod area of the park.

    94.thumb.jpeg.377b4fcb36345813a2d0dd647cc858f4.jpeg

It reminded me of some Southern California towns back in the good ol' days and how they strung these bells over the Main Street through the towns.

    95.thumb.jpeg.365bf35f7cdd5c7d5af1afbd78a1e0b8.jpeg

    Dolly's Purple Christmas Tree.

    96.thumb.jpeg.9b814bd30bc4ab0384d00f6a24d7c99e.jpeg

If you love pink and purple (which everyone should), then this is your favorite building!

    97.thumb.jpeg.4fee55f41397631911c2a74a202eef66.jpeg

There were these butterflies all over the park. They were very pretty!

    98.thumb.jpeg.74117c1ee1fbfeba4ae3dec597d4d766.jpeg

Another tree within the park. Not as tall as the first tree but still pretty awesome with those balls.

    99.thumb.jpeg.7c387e7c09c54a320c344dd8efd6b14b.jpeg

The Main Street area reminded me a lot of Disneyland's Main Street.

    100.thumb.jpeg.8f4f2e583c03503e587d8ba8fc6c842d.jpeg

One last look at the main theater during the night.

    101.thumb.jpeg.5396b50d80f12481ca52bc983f90ae1e.jpeg

But before I left, I had to get another round of cinnamon bread for breakfast the next morning. That's three for the day. My waistline will never be the same!

    102.thumb.jpeg.295c394523c5b48d93fad27b5ddac29f.jpeg

Time to exit the park through the beautifully lit gift shop.

    103.thumb.jpeg.472e6347b5e9dccfca8f544e0088f0c1.jpeg

Thank you Dolly Parton and Dollywood was an amazing day. Christmas time at Dollywood truly is magical!

  8. The holidays are nearly upon us, even for those of us that want to celebrate Halloween 365 days a year (me included). I had the chance to make a visit from the warm state of Arizona to the nice, brisk and cold state of Tennessee and visit Dollywood and Pigeon Forge. The last time I was in Dollywood was in 2006 and the park was still constructing Mystery Mine and the park still had the wonderful "Y" layout. I have been wanting to go back to Dollywood for some time, and since my youngest cousin was getting married near Dollywood, I HAD to make a visit there.

I was fortunate that Dollywood had their Christmas offering already up and OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! I was amazed by how beautiful the park was during the day and even more magical at night. The food never disappoints at Dollywood (and my waistline will never be as small as it was before I entered the park) and I was pretty excited that they had a Holiday Tasting menu around the park.

There are three parts to this trip report...

    Part 1 - Dollywood

Part 2 - Dollywood at night

    Part 3 - Pigeon Forge

    Enjoy the pictures!

    001.thumb.jpeg.31adaee399fc9940780cab96ef7a40cb.jpeg

The main entrance to Dollywood was all decked out for Christmas this year.

    002.thumb.jpeg.9fd44318fbb14d94e069d2e0ff23de5e.jpeg

But first up, it was time to ride some coasters before the park got crowded. Thunderhead immediately landed in my Top 10 wooden coasters when I rode it back in 2006. Let's hope it still runs awesome!

    003.thumb.jpeg.a658c824c3face450b8e0080aaf25b05.jpeg

Through the trees! Is that still a thing? Does anyone remember that during the beginning years of TPR or am I really getting that old? Well, it's going to happen a lot in this report. Anyway, Thunderhead still rode fantastic! This ride never lets up and it's still in my Top 10 wooden coasters. So glad Dollywood has kept this coaster in great condition!

    004.thumb.jpeg.b86d495ab5a5fcd5eb5e197a18dc7628.jpeg

Right next to Thunderhead was Dollywood's version of a kiddie ride with the theming of some punk, whistling at someone. Not sure how nice that is but it's still a fun ride for families.

    005.thumb.jpeg.a8f29edf0ec44435f75b5a0c39f56b38.jpeg

Don't be tootin' willy's whistles now ya hear?

    006.thumb.jpeg.9ea23d25be200654f540a7f08b1477a1.jpeg

The ride that was under construction during my last visit...and all I could see through a peep hole back then was a shed. Now that shed has turned into a Mine...a Mystery Mine that is.

    007.thumb.jpeg.08a38af4e2df8771dc5ef21b58b730ab.jpeg

This was a fun little ride. It was a nice mixture of dark ride plus some coaster elements. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

    008.thumb.jpeg.99825093d35e9e3a0fe28d7806235e0f.jpeg

It was also interesting to see that the track was modified. I don't know when that happened but I also love the fact that the park kept the old piece of track in place. It makes it even more like it's an abandoned old mystery mine!

    009.thumb.jpeg.dbc7416cd34fe8b05275e9a3a5962773.jpeg

Oh yeah, and that cell phone losing hang time was great!

    11.thumb.jpeg.42c6b29af8a25aefe08788d127f8a333.jpeg

Time to enter the newer section of the park. If I was able to bring my family to the park, we would have spent a lot of time in this area. Yes, there is also a Carnival area of this park, but the Wildwood Grove section was just nice, very beautiful, and just relaxing with some great kids rides.

    12.thumb.jpeg.6be1f4cbcaa1ed9905ce23916f46d72a.jpeg

And my oldest would have loved to read these signs so he could learn the history of this section of the park. It's these nice little touches that some people look past, but some families and kids really enjoy it.

    13.thumb.jpeg.5991b85ed0b77cc23e7a738432ea1342.jpeg

Family Suspended credit at the far end of the park. Let's see what it does...

    14.thumb.jpeg.29b2f53907b1e6af0cfd9ec2222ec25e.jpeg

IT HAULS @$$ THROUGH THE TRACK, that's what it does! I mean, damn! This was a family coaster? I sat in the back of this ride and got airtime on it than sitting in the front on Lightning Rod! It's a great coaster but could be terrifying for little kids if this is their first coaster.

    15.thumb.jpeg.f192d45132418209a7acc8793b735a99.jpeg

And the G Forces were pretty great too! I'm not gunna lie, I was really impressed with this ride and actually rode it a couple times throughout the day.

    16.thumb.jpeg.7bbd9a0ab9cdfe72dc01d39421e51976.jpeg

New for next year! Black Bear Trail!

    17.thumb.jpeg.4492ee9328891aaa5e576851c7785ce5.jpeg

Oops...nevermind...this Black Bear Trail is the little kids version of the insane "family" ride that Dollywood was currently building behind construction walls while I was there.

    18.thumb.jpeg.db79559aae720884ecaaf7c75082d2ad.jpeg

They also had some pretty awesome flyers. I couldn't get mine to "crack the whip" but it was still fun!

    19.thumb.jpeg.605a0b43ed4c881e38847cce23018be1.jpeg

Another fun family ride in Wildwood Grove.

    20.thumb.jpeg.8a48b6de56b4202b3dba8e7bef81dfe9.jpeg

Time for another "family" coaster. I have been following the park for quite some time and I'm impressed how this ride utilizes some of the structures and areas that was previously here. I think this is a great addition, rather than a ropes course....

    21.thumb.jpeg.f4358b829d1bed18880c034dc2339752.jpeg

Serious question...Does Dolly Parton have a thing for Firemen? I mean, there's this ride and the beautifully constructed and maintained Blazing Fury. Just curious...

    22.thumb.jpeg.bf64a637bd05548d0c9898b8f5c9956b.jpeg

This was also a very unique coaster. I really loved the layout, how it launched out of the station and also the backward bit. It had a little bit of everything.

    23.thumb.jpeg.6c34caf7c04590efa713e77c60be1c86.jpeg

But a family coaster!?!?! Again?!?! This ride seriously hauled throughout the course of the track and the backwards bit could take anyone by surprise!

    24.thumb.jpeg.8c3e7a0f028286d3992d1beb95112d80.jpeg

The layout was a lot of fun though and I really enjoyed how it utilized the terrain. And no one was burned on our coaster train so that's always a plus.

    25.thumb.jpeg.97f2cc26a1e7a88933889f33e8aef006.jpeg

Through the trees! (I told you this was going to happen a lot in this report)

    26.thumb.jpeg.75b78c3a211f4b754813be60630a3090.jpeg

My very first B&M Wing Coaster! It was a lot of fun. I rode in the back outside and then again in the front outside and both were very smooth. It is a way different feeling than Furious Baco in Port Aventura, Spain...holy hell that ride hurt in the back outside.

    27.thumb.jpeg.8c7723823de4dee34a7243ab5c13e385.jpeg

Wild Eagle dominates the skyline. This ride was very impressive while walking around the Wildwood Grove section of the park because it seemed so damn tall!

    28.thumb.jpeg.f693e0070ee34d81e6a3fffab8995fe1.jpeg

And here's it's impressive loop.....through the trees! Haha!

    29.thumb.jpeg.433b9802d3ad1ae82eb9c75c1c5a0c66.jpeg

I'm pretty sure everyone has a picture of this sign...and I'm pretty sure that 95% of those pictures are better than this one. But that last really is enjoying her hot chocolate!

    30.thumb.jpeg.8191742dc5ff9735a11ac6e5808a9dd5.jpeg

Are these wild eagles? Or are they wild owls? you decide!

    31.thumb.jpeg.5cd8a42af62b049910abcfb919d8fb09.jpeg

The very last Arrow Dynamics Looping Roller Coaster. But that's ok because it's......THROUGH THE TREES!!!!!

    32.thumb.jpeg.24e223ff15146f436a89b0a8c2acd358.jpeg

I really do love this layout and a part of me wished it was a little longer. But then my head and neck remind me that my body can only take so much over a certain period of time.

    33.thumb.jpeg.650d81f49e207b63728f7d3576d91bbf.jpeg

FIRE IN THE HOLE!!!!! If you know, you know!

    34.thumb.jpeg.1722278d97de1ad0081497471c7ff92f.jpeg

The ride still is a lot of fun. It reminds me of the Calico Mine Ride at Knott's Berry Farm. I grew up in So Cal and the Calico Mine Ride was one of my favorite rides as a kid. I can see how people who visit Dollywood frequently would love this ride. Oh...and yeah....THROUGH THE TREES!!!!

    35.thumb.jpeg.df464799467cecd75e9b133d91f43eb6.jpeg

Alright...time to see what all the fuss is about on this coaster. Will it break down, how long was the wait, where is the single rider line? Let's check it out!

    36.thumb.jpeg.6ca81e98943166470072a8b566368439.jpeg

Yeah...it was only a 15 minutes wait throughout the entire day, I rode it 6 times, it never broke down and this first launch lift hill was pretty damn awesome!

    37.thumb.jpeg.75bc48b5e4acac4f2d9cb5b2dbf14953.jpeg

It was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the ride. I wanted to enjoy it more but I think the hype made me too hyped for it and it just didn't live up to what everyone was saying about it. Don't get me wrong, it's a great ride and I had a lot of fun on it...hell, I rode it 6 times!

    38.thumb.jpeg.8658e8c1be69f28e8b1e07b7f7688b41.jpeg

Through the trees!!! And over the water!!!!! Thunderhead is more fun in my opinion.

    39.thumb.jpeg.b32733c3518d5825f60b9eae1e6d02b0.jpeg

Ok folks...one of these is the main reason you go to Dollywood. Which one is it?

    40.thumb.jpeg.dee89d84a446ecd7294a33c04b298541.jpeg

Cinnamon Bread! DUH!!! I remember this deliciousness back in 2006 and I couldn't wait to get it again. Well, I mean I had to wait because the line to get the bread was longer than any ride that day...BUT IT WAS WORTH IT!

    41.thumb.jpeg.f7d5b39c29ee89256b9fa4f353c1f2c9.jpeg

Speaking of food...time to eat my way around Dollywood and all it's delicious offerings it had. The tasting Pass was such a great deal. You get so much food for a great price. Let's check out what's to eat!

    42.thumb.jpeg.b6e077f025d1715aea7fa670d0cf4136.jpeg

I love that they still offer "salad". I mean come on, who's really going to get a salad? Time for some belly of the pig!

    43.thumb.jpeg.71310b4767f374e58000d0c2111cbfce.jpeg

Pork Belly. This was one delicious pig!

    44.thumb.jpeg.715c359066c1b764b38242af54ab742e.jpeg

Christmas in a sandwich?!?! Sign me up!

    45.thumb.jpeg.8fb6451534a5d3b146e4f1732ecce2cb.jpeg

    Again...this was amazing!

    46.thumb.jpeg.0a2020df4c89648fc96b8009b62e3506.jpeg

The real heroes of Dollywood...the giant skillet!

    47.thumb.jpeg.7fd8f44f4c322d81fc0de2fd691507a4.jpeg

I hope this turkey worked out and had some plump thighs!

    48.thumb.jpeg.f70121b5bbb150a178aeb78d8e627f60.jpeg

Oh boy did he work out! And that was a pretty good sized helping of turkey!

    49.thumb.jpeg.e256f205b86aab6bc524116cdf3678dd.jpeg

Now for some other sweets that aren't Cinnamon Bread!

    50.thumb.jpeg.7bda1934ce932ba2f8c66786d23c5cad.jpeg

You can't go wrong with a delicious sugar cookie!

    51.thumb.jpeg.c2dd61f21d03b039a433232f53175adc.jpeg

    I WANT THEM ALL!!!!!

    52.thumb.jpeg.de2568dda3f90326b3951b7fcf96c3dc.jpeg

But I ended up getting the Gingerbread cone. Nice and delicious!

    53.thumb.jpeg.c9124272e4137c3d367a2b5d0652419f.jpeg

After eating Cinnamon Bread the first time, I realized I didn't take a picture before I finished it. That gave me an excuse to buy another order of cinnamon bread. Still so damn good!

    54.thumb.jpeg.c9a56b12595b6aca663a2950fb6a60a8.jpeg

Time to check out the Dollywood Bird Show!

    55.thumb.jpeg.5cf47c162869f40315f91be00046d283.jpeg

Fun fact, the screech owl does not screech...it screams!!

    56.thumb.jpeg.92d7bf0b395b270363141cb58895be8c.jpeg

    Vulture attack!!!!

    57.thumb.jpeg.86c9c885b7da5e66e96f5dd5c42c076b.jpeg

Dollywood has released 300 Bald Eagles into the Great Smokey Mountains! Their Bird Sanctuary right next to the show area was huge and there were a ton of Bald Eagles throughout the sanctuary.

    58.thumb.jpeg.209a23f390968ae2790f28805ebdcdd1.jpeg

There were all sorts of birds hanging out at the park today!59.thumb.jpeg.857d1dda81e56a958a635c28f66861b2.jpeg

And there were some fun floral arrangements around the park as well. Dollywood really is a beautiful park.

    60.thumb.jpeg.0a15a97a3814570218d1695b015c8950.jpeg

And since it was the holidays, of course there were shows scattered throughout the park all throughout the day.

    61.thumb.jpeg.3130b560c1f11d929f4e830dc0b58b8a.jpeg

All the shows seemed real popular.

    Up next, Dollywood at night!

  9. Jurassic Quest!

If you want to see some realistic looking dinosaurs....go watch the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies.

If you want to see some awesome looking animatronics that look like real dinosaurs that are roaming this planet.....go to Universal Studios and ride some of their rides.

If you want to see some robots that move about 2 inches that closely resemble some type of dinosaur....then Jurassic Quest is right up your alley.

My boys have been enjoying the Camp Cretaceous show on Netflix so they were really excited that Jurassic Quest was coming to town so they could see some dinosaurs. There were a lot of animatronics, some bounce houses, some areas to "Dig for Dinos" and some "rides". It was a fun way to kill about an hour out of a day (and $35 per person!!!!!) so here's what we did.

    Enjoy the pictures!

    001.thumb.jpeg.d310ec7ab5d95a7d1cb5de085f4bbaac.jpeg

We are ready for Trailer Park Dinosaurs!

    002.thumb.jpeg.973930e8f744823c51353c90f156b81e.jpeg

This way to all the excitement!

    003.thumb.jpeg.c6e78943d467238ba3898782c0d77d93.jpeg

At least they gave us a very detailed map of where everything was!

    004.thumb.jpeg.00a11bd59699afcc8806071c2ec1fd75.jpeg

And here is the "Quest" part of Jurassic Quest! Find the clues, answer the clues, and get something at the end. Can you guess what it is? Read further down to find out....

    005.thumb.jpeg.dd7b7ca0b52577bdf1ea706b718c95dd.jpeg

"insert John Williams Jurassic Park theme"

    006.thumb.jpeg.79103f626b8fd96082c695de252a3d4c.jpeg

    Here's some Dinos!

    007.thumb.jpeg.25d55624c99bb745594b58dbc067e2af.jpeg

    And some more Dinos...

    008.thumb.jpeg.a9f56795f790e27c4af06454de177e8a.jpeg

The boys were pretty excited to see "Bumpy" from Camp Cretaceous.

    009.thumb.jpeg.1c9235ed0611560968b7d0c244dd0848.jpeg

I think Jurassic Park may have taken some liberties on what the Velociraptor looked like. I wouldn't be terrified of these "birds"

    010.thumb.jpeg.c7666a744f6952be961edad1a18da6a2.jpeg

Oh my god! A Griffinsaurus is being hatched!

    011.thumb.jpeg.a926f5b5b07f923ddc3dbd3a5f12f6d7.jpeg

Or it was just another egg from this weird looking nest.

    012.thumb.jpeg.f8bf5f32c3ef7284447f5d97c6d92af3.jpeg

    It's a Jacksonsaurus Rex!

    013.thumb.jpeg.24568885ae610e07ba64a29cc66feacf.jpeg

I would be terrified too if a dinosaur had red lights coming from its mouth!

    014.thumb.jpeg.39e64c4f9644cba2ad7885f23ce6b82e.jpeg

Cool fact...these are real dinosaur fossils and such.

    014a.thumb.jpeg.f0dbe37a73f17fe7915b8eef1c8b199c.jpeg

Another cool fact, this area had to be kept cool in order to preserve the artifacts.

    015.thumb.jpeg.73f55b609fc948d84dcc5d615d88d08c.jpeg

And then we saw a real dinosaur! It was a baby triceratops. And of course when we went in to take a picture, it started eating Griffin's hair. This was a cute little experience.

    016.thumb.jpeg.ba6c7b05d9ca97431565f51015801105.jpeg

Speaking of cute, look at that giant Allosaurus wanting to eat the baby Stegosaurus...that's so adorable!

    017.thumb.jpeg.d1a0f26557bfead54120b52548009577.jpeg

Moving outside, there were some larger dinosaurs on display. This Gigantosaurus was too loud for Griffin.

    018.thumb.jpeg.3de48dd131bba00e04a71f6c51e7011c.jpeg

And this one had a tail gone rogue...it was swinging wildly in the wind!

    019.thumb.jpeg.7b239b5c5a9789fd79c5997b8bd9a597.jpeg

Why are all the dinosaurs mouths open? Maybe that's how they really died...from swallowing things they weren't supposed to since their mouths were always open.

    019a.thumb.jpeg.00e4f696e01014c8ac6aef9d211fcff2.jpeg

Check out this guys fur coat! I'm sure Cruella De Vil is jealous of the fur!

    020.thumb.jpeg.6855ec4dda950c0d37e7fc86e91f3c64.jpeg

Best part of the whole experience (and the only reason it was sort of worth the money) were the awesomely themed bounce houses.

    021.thumb.jpeg.23a15ac6ee5ef7df220d697847df1183.jpeg

Can't go wrong with a dinosaur on the loose trying to eat you as you are sliding down a slide!

    022.thumb.jpeg.62c952b77853b9735503aff83e5871b6.jpeg

Some of these houses made me wish I was still a kid!

    23a.thumb.jpeg.03ace8bb8bc281d367a0ee4eb8b7dd76.jpeg

But then I see some bounce houses where you slide into a dinosaur's butt and I'm glad I am not a kid anymore.

    023.thumb.jpeg.bcc6e3ed0ad78e0919b3ff7d15bf3727.jpeg

Either way, the bounce houses were a hit and a great way to let loose some energy!

    024.thumb.jpeg.5309b2da1d328f7e1c59f88a0d8fe2d8.jpeg

    Racing slides? Yes please!

    025.thumb.jpeg.51ecba475b98e2ccf33854419cfd1259.jpeg

Continuing to stroll around, we came across some other, fierce looking Dinos. Spinosaurus anyone?

    026.thumb.jpeg.be8a7c4d63ad4dbe79d16490c8692e3a.jpeg

Finally found the Tyrannosaurus and his little baby Rex.

    029.thumb.jpeg.b68461caa3d78214e5bfda71b0b1da92.jpeg

And when there's a Tyrannosaurus rex...there's almost always either a Triceratops or Stegosaurus fighting them.  I guess those guys just never got along.

    027.thumb.jpeg.fc32a50d7ea3aa81409d4694584368c1.jpeg

And of course there's a Triceratops you can ride on.

    030.thumb.jpeg.29da75d5c3a925dcfca89702c89dc649.jpeg

Speaking of "rides", you can "ride" some dinosaurs. They move about 1 foot and shake. It's like a massage chair on top of a dinosaur robot.

    031.thumb.jpeg.1dc9368c924d7bd109e6049f294733d1.jpeg

But at least they have different ones you can "ride".

    032.thumb.jpeg.d43f47ce050fe03b2f9c4b7a0ba0f858.jpeg

But the best ride was being able to go on these "walking" dinosaurs. Griffin was so excited that he got to ride Bumpy from Camp Cretaceous!

    032a.thumb.jpeg.0e175a03953a6533a1a971689f5c02c4.jpeg

I don't think Bumpy was too thrilled....

    028.thumb.jpeg.e8c5ba04759c052bfe0bf179a5700ecd.jpeg

There was also a place to dig for Dinos!

    033.thumb.jpeg.0a7a55d901804a08f315430d942099ff.jpeg

Time to check out some underwater dinosaurs.

    034.thumb.jpeg.424e0eebd0bb96b203b086e160359019.jpeg

But first....the Megalodon mouth! This thing was HUGE!!

    035.thumb.jpeg.4efb7cb0d834ba7cdcf8c2246ef59ef3.jpeg

Actual Megalodon tooth. (Like how is says "Real Fossil" next to it......)

    036.thumb.jpeg.4104e445805aba484e5ea2767c11c995.jpeg

I personally think the mouth was more impressive than the animatronic. But my boys thought the thing was HUGE and "just a great white shark".

    037.thumb.jpeg.ec1df425f3658ce94763e4fb4da7fdb9.jpeg

Hey Jeff Johnson...how's it going? (You thought I'd go a whole dinosaur report without that reference? Never!)

    039a.thumb.jpeg.1a754c633fc5ced6ac74d1f876094fd6.jpeg

The boys finish the "Quest" and got their prize! It was ... drum roll please ...... a tattoo and/or a sticker. Wow....it was totally worth it.

    040.thumb.jpeg.ab14f15d7b52086607927ca834223574.jpeg

So if Jurassic Quest ever comes to your city and you just so happen to have an extra $35 per person to spend on about an hours worth of time....maybe spend it on this attraction.

    041.thumb.png.cce1406c129e18a83738c2b5d3b61eea.png

    That's all folks!

    Thanks for reading.

  10. Part 3 - Disneyland Resort Area

If you've made it this far, then Hello! This next part of the report will focus on the Resorts and Downtown Disney section. We were there during changes from Halloween to Christmas so it was kind of entertaining seeing pumpkins along Downtown Disney one day and then Christmas trees the next. It seems like by the time we left, everything was ready for the Holiday season.

    001.thumb.jpeg.ec34e3d9c110758a60278e6fbefc49cd.jpeg

We stayed at the Paradise Pier Hotel. While it wasn't our first choice, it was still a fun experience to stay "on property" at a Disney Resort. The cast members really are the best and they made sure we had a great time.

    002.thumb.jpeg.0a560af6d9016c289beb60cdf94dd738.jpeg

Our first day there, we were greeted by Surfer Goofy.

    003.thumb.jpeg.5e3f11662968796e3b99fe97e3fdffa0.jpeg

Then overnight, Goofy left and went to catch some waves and never returned, so they placed a Christmas tree in the main lobby.

    004.thumb.jpeg.b07e7296c330e6c08cc8005992df8dfd.jpeg

The only unfortunate thing about Paradise Pier is that they didn't offer any food service. We knew this going in so we brought our own breakfast but it was still a bit of a bummer to not be able to eat at the hotel.

    005.thumb.jpeg.d7a96d6b880221ba1e57fa800e5d171f.jpeg

The standard store inside the hotel offered everything a Disney nerd could imagine.

    006.thumb.jpeg.4c460b134e3417644c1e6512e0a92f0c.jpeg

And while Cassie and I geeked out over Disney merchandise, the boys found a table and started coloring.

    007.thumb.jpeg.4165946e1cd78fcd4c312b429c76d42f.jpeg

But then we lost them while we were still shopping but realized they went to watch the best Mickey cartoons on the planet in this little room.

    009.thumb.jpeg.49bf9319925581711b32c612a56693f7.jpeg

We weren't even at the parks yet and Griffin wanted to relax on the large chairs.

    010.thumb.jpeg.e19991ac0223c483aa837aa9c5895576.jpeg

The "standard" view from our room wasn't bad. We got to see the pool and people going down the water slide.

    011.thumb.jpeg.2b0e516ffbfcb22f7d30beffac9f71d7.jpeg

Looks like baby Yoda is ready to check out Downtown Disney District.

    012.thumb.jpeg.19ca74bada8fe1d000811e47f7416c8e.jpeg

Plenty of photo ops throughout Downtown Disney.

    013.thumb.jpeg.ce82268b4d6a14215addc21de23915f5.jpeg

Everywhere there is holiday magic in Downtown Disney.

    014.thumb.jpeg.2e7cd893f73472e92b81525e53082daa.jpeg

And being the Star Wars nerds that we are, we had to check out the former Rainforest Cafe...

    015.thumb.jpeg.174e768672b4e8d4e7af981635400553.jpeg

They had some great merchandise throughout the store.

    016.thumb.jpeg.597382de48e3fe1e67e845cd02b4225b.jpeg

Also, plenty of photo ops outside the store as well.

    017.thumb.jpeg.81d9f9a1b3bf9c5462050790764cb55c.jpeg

And if you know anything about our family...you know that we LOVE LEGO. We regularly submit our LEGO creations to be displayed in our local LEGO store every month. We love LEGO and the boys were excited to check out the 2nd largest LEGO store in the US.

    018.thumb.jpeg.6cb36606e0b4cadf5532134b5c6e73b1.jpeg

They had some really impressive builds out front and inside.019.thumb.jpeg.cb75f614804096e521f6d4f4a15d8d4f.jpeg

So many things to choose from! What should we get?!?!?!?

    020.thumb.jpeg.7cda7254649adad0b94e28e60d0d7eb3.jpeg

The LEGO Mario interactive sets are a hit in this family. Sadly, I think we have nearly every set and it's still set up in Jackson's room for them to play with every day.

    021.thumb.jpeg.fab9220d44e0e31a81d39ba5f77ab35d.jpeg

That is an impressive LEGO wall. They still didn't have roller coaster pieces which is s bummer because I've been making my own LEGO roller coasters but the pieces are so hard to find.

    022.thumb.jpeg.9b077497d4089373ebcf203cf524c1ce.jpeg

Darth Vader was making sure that every one was staying in line and not stealing anything.

    023.thumb.jpeg.2fe7ac1ce703284e35a81485a12d3e64.jpeg

Another impressive large build on the inside.

    024.thumb.jpeg.bffa762f61085841f71719f00925b61f.jpeg

Griffin was so excited to see the Millennium Falcon!

    025.thumb.jpeg.b9eeaddc62012801f64fd6486688e762.jpeg

    Pumpkins one day....

    026.thumb.jpeg.02ad5f244e85579581f34dec134fca66.jpeg

...trees the next day. It was really weird seeing both holidays at Downtown Disney.

    027.thumb.jpeg.a0f181aaf1204f3f974cfbf8c1fe65c8.jpeg

One of our favorite things we get as a souvenir from any theme park are pressed pennies. By the time we ended this trip, we were able to collect every Disney pressed penny onsite from this visit and our last visit. Way better than stuffed animals that deteriorate over time.

    028.thumb.jpeg.4a257e913c7fd96f270528d838effeee.jpeg

Time to head over to the Grand Californian to see what they have for the holidays.

    029.thumb.jpeg.87e5d1e3cc9871ae28063de638fec210.jpeg

It's a must to sit by the fire at this hotel.

    030.thumb.jpeg.ba0c47b10aa12f1f88d7dbf2e9473400.jpeg

The Gingerbread house in the lobby was impressive. As soon as we walked in the lobby, it smelled like cookies and gingerbread...it was great.

    031.thumb.jpeg.542637713a886144d7ec42d2c0635d3f.jpeg

If you want to make your own giant gingerbread house, here are the instructions! Good Luck! I'll stick with graham crackers and icing.

    032.thumb.jpeg.cacf598c603920af70e73c36a5d4e47f.jpeg

Making our way to the end of Downtown Disney, we were able to relax by the fountain. This was just a nice calming area away from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks and all the restaurants at Downtown Disney.

    033.thumb.jpeg.d0d8cb56b146a2b553e254a9147f0d7c.jpeg

We had to make sure we stopped by there every day.

    034.thumb.jpeg.21f709f3cea7c881b7420edeba27cab2.jpeg

This place was insane! So many people looking for every holiday thing they could grab! Maybe stick with online shopping!

    035.thumb.jpeg.71d8a91b5439a508edacf5d53cdd32c5.jpeg

Now it's time for us to head to the Disneyland Hotel and have dinner with a certain dog...036.thumb.jpeg.ff34c9398b907fc69896c3d9c5815ab0.jpeg

Griffin was practicing his driving while we waited to be seated. It didn't help any as he still was horrible on the Autopia.

    037.thumb.jpeg.4fdba084a44191ece089ae8387ab9a1e.jpeg

Goofy's Kitchen! Time to fill our stomachs here so we don't pay for food at the parks (yeah...that didn't work out...)

    038.thumb.jpeg.484281f8e111c5b2cc47aaa9c7ec3f62.jpeg

Every character we get to see has a job in the kitchen. Pluto has the hardest job...anyone know what it is?

    039.thumb.jpeg.294c9ce73392b0ff607d7ae6c8b238e1.jpeg

The food was delicious. We were a little bummed on the allergy friendly options. When we booked it, we were told that we could order certain items from a menu and that they would deliver it to us. That did not happen so Jackson just ate chicken tenders and grapes.

    040.thumb.jpeg.047575c1cf2e268446dcee0d0dc6ab19.jpeg

The characters walked around every so often and we all got to get up and dance. they didn't stop and hug anyone for pictures but it was still nice to see them walk around.

    041.thumb.jpeg.ea69e05f8a682320c895eb9ef0210589.jpeg

We got to see Dale (and Chip too at a later time)...

    042.thumb.jpeg.3ff0a06ad72bf4c7364ae2409b779321.jpeg

We got to see Minnie. And she was so excited to see us too!

    043.thumb.jpeg.49b75f2f0321967aa2e8f954b969f7ab.jpeg

And we got to see Pluto. Next one was only Goofy himself.

    044.thumb.jpeg.e849d7d19a5c7941b55973e116f49d68.jpeg

Here's Goofy....oh wait...that's not the real Goofy, that's just a silly person dressed as Goofy.

    045.thumb.jpeg.99a728d77ac03fa5cc55f6df643d4b96.jpeg

There's Goofy! In all his awesomeness!

And he even got our waiter to dance with him!

    047.thumb.jpeg.9887787b9ec591ae8c762f75e874b183.jpeg

Goofy's Kitchen was a great experience. We recommend any character dining that you can get, get the reservation. Our boys never had a character dining experience before, so they thought this was how it was supposed to be and they were so excited to see all the characters up close.

    048.thumb.jpeg.519221d8414bfc2e7fb47c4f0db5c70f.jpeg

    Goofy's Kitchen was GREAT!

One more tree at the Disney's Downtown District that we had to see before our vacation was over.

    050.thumb.jpeg.aa98b08abee867b31f59a1b848a39fad.jpeg

Our boys had a blast and had a great vacation.

Pressed Pennies! This is every pressed penny we have collected at the Disneyland Resort area from our multiple trips we have done. We are safe to say that we collected them all!

  11. Part 2 - Disney's California Adventure

This park was the surprise hit of this vacation. My boys (and wife) enjoyed this park more than Disneyland. Avengers Campus is such a great upgrade at the park. My boys got to experience Bug's Land on our last visit when they were younger, but now that they are a little older (and love MARVEL) Avenger's Campus was the best land in the park. Even though they only rode Spider-Man, the whole atmosphere and shows and meeting characters is what they really loved. This park keeps getting better and better after every visit I have.

Time to eat our way around Disney's California Adventure! And also ride some rides and see some shows.

    002.thumb.jpeg.88f51f4b91ee9a0da6f4013233011f9f.jpeg

Hiya Walt...thanks for creating Mickey Mouse and coming to California. I'm sure your adventure was a lot different than the adventure we are about to have today.

    003.thumb.jpeg.4aea207e3a3a950a24d3281be0219102.jpeg

We lost Griffin and Baby Yoda decided to join us at the park today.

    004.thumb.jpeg.deb1d06b17fc110ab3d7a8f9dfed5180.jpeg

First stop is always Cars Land. Fun Fact - Jackson's favorite movie for the longest time was Cars. He loved Lightning McQueen and everything about Cars. Now that he's older he's thankfully said that is not his favorite movie anymore but he still really enjoys Cars.

    005.thumb.jpeg.a29b3f237b61d547b6fe9bf9c7a0f79a.jpeg

    Tractor pull time!

    006.thumb.jpeg.3706c28e3dcc6881bb4f849dcd3874dc.jpeg

Santa Mater came out to say hello and crack some pretty awful jokes.

    007.thumb.jpeg.ebfc924780e97fcb9c3511f4e4e670d4.jpeg

Watch out! The tractor is going to run you over!

    008.thumb.jpeg.20dbe2f491c4dc023c362598d8224dd4.jpeg

We shoved the kids on the Cars ride. They loved it! We only got to ride it once while we were there but that was the highlight of Cars Land.

    009.thumb.jpeg.069d63dd30b204b0ffcd531c4d9a67aa.jpeg

Actually, the highlight of Cars Land was food...and specifically Churros!

    010.thumb.jpeg.2ed6f4df78537fe21bb2a7f86e33c94c.jpeg

Nothing can go wrong with early morning snack time. We will be snacking all day so why not start off with some delicious Churros from the Cozy Cones!

    012.thumb.jpeg.14dcef6ffcc5a192ef2ba2ae023f1bfd.jpeg

Buzz even thinks that our Churro choice was the right one. He is busy chilling in the Cozy Cone office.

    013.thumb.jpeg.f54250298e66b78a7dd3c4905de23b68.jpeg

On our way over to the boy's favorite ride in the entire park, we meet Dopey.

    014.thumb.jpeg.d9b2ce0ac8bb70390858d2137d3d744f.jpeg

And Oswald the Lucky Rabbit! My boys kept asking me who he was and then when we got home I showed them some cartoons of his. They think Mickey is better but I still think Oswald needs more love! Bring back EPIC MICKEY to the Nintendo Switch!!!

    015.thumb.jpeg.50ba2651eff5dacb0f323c5b5ffdbfc3.jpeg

Soarin......all I can say is that this is my kid's (and my wife's) favorite ride in the park. Me....I hate it. I don't know why people love this ride. You get on a "Hang-glider" and see every part of the contraption you are about to get on, you see the giant movie screen in front of you and then you "fly". I just feel that the Imagineers could have done a better job at hiding the screen, hiding the parts to the hang-glider, etc. To me it just feels like going to a movie. My boys loved it so we rode it about 8 times and I got a power nap each time we rode. I might be in the minority, but I typically do not ride Soarin whenever I'm in the park.

    016.thumb.jpeg.9e648bc4582de2fc4f5eb25c0363b61a.jpeg

We met up with some friends and decided to tackle the Bear Mountain the ride GRRR!!!!

    017.thumb.jpeg.9a759b67305331bf26560f848aec2476.jpeg

Yeah....we got wet. I sat on the side and of course in the first rapids section a giant wave crashed into the boat and soaked my entire left side and my butt. The rest of the day with a wet butt was really fun.

    018.thumb.jpeg.aba736d047925411dc35e6aa215e9c30.jpeg

The kids even got soaked and were shivering as we got off the ride. Good choice guys!

    019.thumb.jpeg.d967347b7ccbed265a12c94615ced4b4.jpeg

The Redwood Creek section had a fun Holiday makeover. The attractions inside were all themed to the holidays.

    020.thumb.jpeg.c5d1b424fa0c9d037543ac6d37bbd275.jpeg

They had a fun seek-and-find challenge where you had to find all the presents, write down the letters on the presents on the paper, and then solve the riddle. When you solve it, you get a prize (a Walt Disney Trading Card)

    020a.thumb.jpeg.c94bd111e3be82856c41661b6f6aa826.jpeg

I still don't know why these slides have a turn in them. I saw several kids hit the side and almost fall over the edge. Such a weird design.

    021.thumb.jpeg.5fa014dc8f955f78f4006c8df6e9d8b1.jpeg

My boys love climbing EVERYTHING so of course we had to do this 100 times.

    022.thumb.jpeg.fc5a9b441bc3df41a546735cb4026dd2.jpeg

They felt like real rock climbers.

    023.thumb.jpeg.1099782b5ca5cf5ed93505ba4f782a8b.jpeg

Their rock climbing form is incredible!

    024.thumb.jpeg.ea4c6d7fad52857f3b225acf2f19406f.jpeg

One of the attractions themed to the Holidays. Griffin just saw a kid nearly fall off the zip-line, hence the look of fear in his eyes!

    025.thumb.jpeg.60d2ac783908648a3a6008d2c6a5b79f.jpeg

But he still did it and was going at super speed!

    026.thumb.jpeg.f479362945b14dbda37c37196cbb5b25.jpeg

We saw Dale just chillin by the rapids ride. We love these lovable rodents!

    027.thumb.jpeg.3ba8d3c4a08ff2d01af7ef318aefffe2.jpeg

Crazy water fall face! The walk around the other side of the rapids ride was a nice walk to get away from the crazy crowded area near GRRR!

    028.thumb.jpeg.b0c6ecc290a134d407d3666efc31686a.jpeg

Without our boys even seeing what Goofy's Sky School was, we walked them right on the ride and shoved them in the cars. They sort of liked it but they felt like Goofy was a horrible teacher and didn't really know how to fly and that's why the cars were going too fast.

    029.thumb.jpeg.81267010034e3cb6beba307e10bf7fe4.jpeg

My first snack of the day. Rather tasty! The Beef Wellington Mickey.

    030a.thumb.jpeg.003431ba649f48d89d35cd7c5013d0f6.jpeg

Time to make our way to Pixar Pier. The boys have not been to this section since they re-themed everything to Pixar and they loved it!

    030b.thumb.jpeg.c4f4dba14988c07a4718a732f17b2dc4.jpeg

We met with some other friends and had a blast showing all our emotions.

    031.thumb.jpeg.065366596acc10dd429ac63774855e4e.jpeg

This emotion was seen a lot on our vacation...FEAR. But we got over it...sometimes...

    032.thumb.jpeg.2ac2bd07d9de3ab95a6549b6ed017960.jpeg

We even saw some Pixar characters that you don't normally see around the parks.

    033.thumb.jpeg.3118e6c29f8f72b3114a59c120914963.jpeg

But now it was time for an attraction, a shooting game, high score wins, going against parents which equals the BEST RIDE EVER!!!

    034.thumb.jpeg.9b25790ce188d2d50cfb2053bc3c9ee2.jpeg

Jackson was a champ at this ride too...just like Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.

    035.thumb.jpeg.e6f465d5cd6aabec057bbdd53da1589b.jpeg

His scores were insane throughout the entire trip!

    036.thumb.jpeg.b80734d8b087b50ed864893ac1475025.jpeg

We decided to let them play all the Pixar Games along the boardwalk. You basically pay for these little dolls.

    037.thumb.jpeg.31647d0cbac2c462ec7211524b896a04.jpeg

Super serious in determining which star they wanted.

    038.thumb.jpeg.a2b23d55e0db52e78201988628a47833.jpeg

Even though this is from La Luna...they think it's the Luma's that follow Rosalina from Super Mario Galaxy.

    039.thumb.jpeg.fc6a71099d8d0fc6a48f4c4f5a7b02b7.jpeg

Fun fact - Heimlich's Chew Chew Train at the no closed Bug's Land was Jackson and Griffin's favorite ride at the park on our last visit. They knew he loved Candy Corn so they were so excited to help this caterpillar become even more obese.

    040.thumb.jpeg.35cf9d3eb8ee93b74b95c38e62f9ec00.jpeg

Now it's time for a horse race...without all the betting and whipping of horses.

    041.thumb.jpeg.428a0e576712e84b454e02f1a4797f1c.jpeg

    Griffin won Bullseye!

    042.thumb.jpeg.d908a1d4188a2aeecd0f2ff2352496f6.jpeg

This was a nice re-theme. The different animals and characters were fun to see.

    043.thumb.jpeg.127225f2221402d114aec79d93c5efa7.jpeg

Time for the best treat of the day...yellow colored ice cream. Why is it yellow? Well, who knows...

    044.thumb.jpeg.5fdfe30ebc7fcfda6a56c63c425b9025.jpeg

Pixar Pier sure was fun...but it's time to head to the best part of Disney's California Adventure...

    045.thumb.jpeg.7104107ed629254a299973da5ba13f46.jpeg

...MORE FOOD!!!! Just kidding. But this thanksgiving stuffing Mac and cheese was quite delicious!

    046.thumb.jpeg.dbcd43e11fc5b095801abd55da840ca5.jpeg

We saw Nick Wilde and my boys were actually quite bummed they couldn't buy a pawpsicle from him.

    047.thumb.jpeg.7d5eba6ddc1f716fbdac16719f7714fb.jpeg

We randomly ran into the character cavalcade. It was fun seeing all these different characters that you don't normally see.

    048.thumb.jpeg.841360d4d03271860186540b79d55971.jpeg

Best picture of Chip and Dale EVER!!!!! We might frame this and send to Elissa .... hahaha ....

    049.thumb.jpeg.d54593732810046e2c9b11de08e044f3.jpeg

Mr Incredible has got some serious thighs....I think he needs to stop eating all the snacks around Disney's California Adventure.

    050.thumb.jpeg.ebe4f7592f0c2df74b5393a6d0d45487.jpeg

Oh...hi Jessie...why are you staring at us? We just wanted a picture.

    051.thumb.jpeg.62fd6e853bf0b0129c2fe99d9a5982db.jpeg

    Holiday Pluto! 051a.thumb.jpeg.cafb7501b7e1b46b00a5faffa2992625.jpeg

This is the best sourdough you can ever get. It was a pull-apart Christmas Tree. It was so good!

    052.thumb.jpeg.4702096771c98fbe24e922efa3590e36.jpeg

Time for some Holiday stuff. They had stations around where you could do arts and crafts of the different Holiday Celebrations.

    053.thumb.jpeg.6a3be1a50c61daca5063672b2c13aed9.jpeg

We decided to decorate a Mickey Ornament and write a letter to Santa.

    054.thumb.jpeg.f249350e6e9fa885ba1bb0e7772b24b2.jpeg

Yes ladies and Gentlemen...it is still here. And Jackson loved the interactive activities here. Too bad Anna and Elsa Meet and Greet destroyed the "Ursula's Grotto" portion of the workshop, but we still had fun.

    055.thumb.jpeg.994331c7279719f8584d68c944c2c053.jpeg

It really feels like you are in a magicians workshop.

    056.thumb.jpeg.7ee3da7c7e585903994dfe160e6192e0.jpeg

We drew our own piece of animation. It was pretty neat seeing something you drew come to life.

    057.thumb.jpeg.2a87865bf3d322c79c3c5db3e6e9e2ab.jpeg

The boys had to try every bit of animation possible.

    058.thumb.jpeg.0739964bc2ef828fe3a73210efc15e2e.jpeg

We made it to Beast's Library. Seems like he is happy right now.

    060.thumb.jpeg.f63b284f91c04847c0772d3720c34406.jpeg

But then Griffin sat in his chair ... and then ....

    059.thumb.jpeg.d03c816abee07650a6f6df3595ad5245.jpeg

The entire room changed. Griffin was so convinced that he did this that he didn't want to sit in the chair again. So magical.

    061.thumb.jpeg.b1e2a9c8a25cf40b5322e72e31588003.jpeg

Fun fact - the boys found out which character they were most like and of course, they each got their favorite characters. That's pretty impressive (and scary) Disney!

    062.thumb.jpeg.8a99c4df4a14ef88d0fe8f0812bbbfc0.jpeg

We are ready to tackle Avenger's Campus. But first, we had to meet our 2nd favorite version of Captain America.

    063.thumb.jpeg.52e7719933990ceb6cb1845d84cc0b05.jpeg

I honestly have no idea what this is but the boys knew who they were and started calling them by their "other" names. I guess it's a fun show on Disney+.

    064.thumb.jpeg.a7cfd613db2c76194444d3f7f7c29826.jpeg

We ran into the Guardians of the Galaxy dance-off while on our way to Avenger's Campus. The boys loved how much the characters interacted with them.

    065a.thumb.jpeg.74e364c76d4bbc9f7837ec3343e3261b.jpeg

But now it's time for Avengers Campus!

    065b.thumb.jpeg.c425a73866de88938c3a79c55e6f859c.jpeg

And the first thing you are supposed to do there is eat a pretzel bigger than your face!

    066.thumb.jpeg.2f4e6aeed4824d541ae8500c2ddfcc7e.jpeg

This sure was a fun slide. Who knew there was a playground at Avengers Campus...

    067.thumb.jpeg.f954f4e4fec0dd4ed3bed4444a1e8d64.jpeg

We got to meet a ton of characters!

    068.thumb.jpeg.4432881f23afc61051bb02e96e8e4e50.jpeg

Fun fact - Ant-Man was the first Marvel movie my boys watched. He was their favorite Super Hero until....069.thumb.jpeg.efb43cf7b16122c305be5c4d66f660d9.jpeg

....Sider-Man. Now we need to see what Spider-Man can do.

    070.thumb.jpeg.46d25b4f094db20675d4354f605afc63.jpeg

HOLY CRAP! He just flew through the air!!!

    071.thumb.jpeg.2993e7c6134e06c8a33a33028a42bd3d.jpeg

This reaction to Spider-Man flying through the air is priceless. Way to go Disney Imagineers! My boys truly believed that Spider-Man was flying.

    072.thumb.jpeg.b9c8823d9e9e8ed52afaadc8167862de.jpeg

After his show, the boys met their favorite Super Hero.

    073.thumb.jpeg.15b713c1b8698ee66b8c78cae9a136fd.jpeg

Now it's time to check out what Peter Parker is up to.

    074.thumb.jpeg.ba925c005792869468edd66486194ac6.jpeg

I called Tom Holland and told him he needed to stay Spider-man forever.

    075.thumb.jpeg.b90ba2970f71aa5bd0b72325e6596187.jpeg

Time to help Spider-man destroy the Spider-bots.

    076.thumb.jpeg.772daf0fe2e1b4f7c6aa9e2691eabe10.jpeg

We are ready for some web slinging action.

    077.thumb.jpeg.72c99d63f674e7e75d773388ba42ebff.jpeg

After our 6th time riding it, we finally figured it out and which spiders to hit and how to get a high score. We got 7th highest of the hour! My boys were so excited!

    078.thumb.jpeg.7eb8ce42ea6cf4d09f2e2d99f28564fd.jpeg

Spider-man congratulated us as we walked out. Thanks Spider-man!

    079.thumb.jpeg.404eacb4477cc8c0a8df97a1b89d9dff.jpeg

Now it's time to check out Doctor Strange! He just appeared out of no where!

    081.thumb.jpeg.0116287280fc0ed307b62914d60241ca.jpeg

My boys were taking this seriously. We had to summon an Avenger.

    080.thumb.jpeg.fe1545abb1429bd011b83048ba7fec12.jpeg

And then Thor appeared. He was great. He thought he was part of the audience and sat right next to the people in the front. Then when Doctor Strange told him to go to Pym's Kitchen, he actually just walked off and went to Pym's. It was great and shows how much these characters are a part of this whole Avenger's Campus experience.

    083.thumb.jpeg.6d3d2a2be0231ed4ec9fe90e251cf23c.jpeg

Captain America was keeping an eye on Loki when we left Doctor Strange.

    084.thumb.jpeg.c3d42dbf6c36b2ed424b02f023f2df83.jpeg

We were there for a demonstration from the lady's with vibranium spears.

    085.thumb.jpeg.3d4abb74bd0974bb3c525d272069d81a.jpeg

The Dora Milaje were very impressive.

    086.thumb.jpeg.fc0c2ab454eea28218300500ac3aebaa.jpeg

Their skill with the spears was pretty insane!

    087.thumb.jpeg.cf8226e2283fca1f42b1310a36f457ac.jpeg

Night is starting to fall upon us so that only means one thing....

    088.thumb.jpeg.97f8b3003dc28704ebe5a36d4e7faa5a.jpeg

...time to take off in the Quinn-Jet and fly to Radiator Springs for some awesome sights.

    089.thumb.jpeg.d6fc9308ee6285ba3c715775e35a8303.jpeg

Some awesome sights of food that is!!! No seriously, some awesome sights of ....

    090.thumb.jpeg.c3ae10ede10a6e1247be51c7856e76df.jpeg

....Radiator Springs! Nighttime is the best time to visit.

    091.thumb.jpeg.875ccf033e2c5a6d00fd7d2fcbccc8c3.jpeg

A salute to all nations...but mostly Radiator Springs.

    092.thumb.jpeg.c2baee39a1d8a74b17120169f359cd6a.jpeg

    Time for a paint job.

    093.thumb.jpeg.97efbfe1313967b8768b85a002680999.jpeg

Luigi's was a fun ride and all the songs were themed around the holidays.

    099.thumb.jpeg.3e9d1246c7ad58531d446127be241f4f.jpeg

You get to ride in these cute little "cousins" of Luigi. They all look like Guido.

    100.thumb.jpeg.851c6bf96fb756670bb41e8aaa5adfad.jpeg

Griffin and I are not too sure was is about to happen.

    094.thumb.jpeg.cd88247b6bb795233b1bf0c60c55fc01.jpeg

Time for some more food....actually I think my stomach is pretty full from the day...

    095.thumb.jpeg.b6cdc5bc948c257fdac4649bffd0113a.jpeg

....so let's go eat some more!

    096a.thumb.jpeg.2131917bafe07f34922824bff574588e.jpeg

    Cherry Chocolate Churro! Okay, thanks!

    098.thumb.jpeg.478d391cff179236201f03d5fb8762c5.jpeg

Cars Land was great! Nighttime is the best.

    096.thumb.jpeg.8c39fab8c77b835b4f769568c655163c.jpeg

And we got to say Good-Bye to Lightning McQueen.

    101.thumb.jpeg.77d381cb5429f8d09b0fc346a98e4e06.jpeg

On our way out, we saw Santa flying over Buena Vista Street!

We had to say goodbye to the characters one last time.

    103.thumb.jpeg.dbd0f31b7e70218a30ab752542ee34e3.jpeg

And of course, our favorite princesses too.104.thumb.jpeg.9e4678e8e6f7371e953b55c031f9d96e.jpeg

  12. The Holidays are nearly upon us...even if some people still want to celebrate 365 days a year for Halloween (me included). This trip was nearly 2 years in the making as we had planned to go last September...in 2020...and we all know what kind of year that turned out to be. We planned on booking everything in March 2020. Thankfully we didn't tell the boys last year because that would have crushed their dreams. So, when Disneyland Resort finally decided to open back up, we carefully looked at our calendars and we were off on booking everything and we decided to celebrate the Holidays at the park...even if it was going to be a bit early in the season.

The last time we went to the Resort as a family, my oldest (Jackson) was 4 and was still too short to ride some of the bigger stuff and my youngest (Griffin) was 1 and was barely walking. Now, they were older, taller, and ready to conquer everything they wanted to conquer. Key word being "THEY" and not what Mom and Dad wanted. We all had a blast and we are excited to share the trip with you all.

This report will be broken up into different parts...

    Part 1 - Disneyland

    Part 2 - Disney's California Adventure

Part 3 - Disneyland Resort Area

    I hope you enjoy!

    Part 1 - Disneyland

    001.thumb.jpeg.7621bd31849afac83c5a948d6c4b1a81.jpeg

Every day when you stay at the Disneyland Resort Hotel needs to start with Disney Junior!

    002.thumb.jpeg.69ed8bffc54bf6174b63579ec3696b7b.jpeg

Christmas Card Photo! Now I don't need to send it to any of you through snail mail so I can save on postage. Thanks!

    003.thumb.jpeg.2669622d78662be69c1ed7e18aaaa06f.jpeg

The tree on Main Street was up and rather large! The detail on all the ornaments is amazing!

    004.thumb.jpeg.ca7e0a840c0d2b656d135431ffb7d3ad.jpeg

Look! I can see the castle from here! Just past all the hanging garlands, people walking, trees growing, and a giant statue that's nearly as tall as it, but hey! It's there!!!

    005.thumb.jpeg.83e4d0eb61c90d9c314be5eab2f9224c.jpeg

Keeping up with celebrating Halloween 365 days a year, they had a nice tribute to the Muppets Haunted Mansion in the Opera House.

    006.thumb.jpeg.db67461c8c752ebfa85d63466b570e6b.jpeg

They had some neat set pieces from the movie that is currently on Disney+. If you haven't seen it, you should watch it...it is Classic Muppets!

    007.thumb.jpeg.56a04306b1a1fe3216a81fd56b1552ba.jpeg

Of course all my boys wanted to do was watch it all day in the Opera House.

    008.thumb.jpeg.23d54a78aee08c9a56db88b04a71e8b3.jpeg

Taking a further stroll down Main Street, since we were in Disneyland on Mickey's birthday, we decided to watch some of his classic movies in the Theater!

    008a.thumb.jpeg.a3a354600a37233c227946c2e8646087.jpeg

There are Holiday things in all the shops and in all the windows along Main Street. This one is for all the rodent lovers out there!

    009.thumb.jpeg.25cee1f77a23da23982d598465ace141.jpeg

Oh hey! Check it out! Mickey's Birthday Celebration Parade!

    010.thumb.jpeg.e81afd07ee44d84cc8eefb6c08ebc616.jpeg

The Main Mouse himself. He's freakin old!!!! But not Jeff Johnson old...

    011.thumb.jpeg.57ca21b1d4fe6634bb7462f5a22fa141.jpeg

All the characters came out to celebrate with Mickey. As they should...he pays their bills....

    012.thumb.jpeg.6cf6433ba169f37d99177efc42db38e4.jpeg

We chatted with Anna for ac couple minutes while their bus stopped by us. She was great!

    013.thumb.jpeg.9601c1b844cb5f42a4da63b0be41e823.jpeg

Here's a question for anyone....when is Minnie Mouse's birthday? We always celebrate Mickey...what about his better half?

    014.thumb.jpeg.1934df41c72290277d5947f8f7eb0af0.jpeg

The parade was fun and a nice surprise at the park because they didn't advertise it was happening. We just kind of stumbled upon it.

    015.thumb.jpeg.b592fe6ecff974953f97184338e2c670.jpeg

Our little Baby Yoda is using the force to get the sword out of the stone........sadly....the face was not strong with that one.

    016.thumb.jpeg.715ea033a00c81f9a2b298f3b27ef03f.jpeg

And that's how close we got to the teacups. Which is a good thing because they probably couldn't handle how fast I would spin it!

    017.thumb.jpeg.d5c178748906072cc807bdf88977f4ca.jpeg

Alice in Wonderland Selfie! We went on this ride ONLY 5 times. My boys loved it and I really enjoyed how they changed it up from the original with all the projections now.

    018.thumb.jpeg.eb4438e634e061939ac7e595a3f45a57.jpeg019.thumb.jpeg.95e96345a9e1fe6c693e044583e27624.jpeg

Mr. Toad 4 years ago and now. Pretty close and Jackson is still a crazy driver!

    020.thumb.jpeg.4b2024aabaefb4b24d56f8148d0d428b.jpeg

After Mr. Toad, they wanted to drive real cars. So Autopia, here we come!

    021.thumb.jpeg.77559b688bbf5734fc395a4ae618eee2.jpeg

And I think Griffin hit nearly every side of the center rail that he could. I might sue him later for whiplash!

    022.thumb.jpeg.006e2cf33adb99179bce60fb37e5cc6a.jpeg

First of many pictures within this entire report of FOOD! This was some pink cherry coconut churro nastiness. Cassie loves coconut, I hate it, but she loved this treat.

    022a.thumb.jpeg.047542acc98fcb0eec8957d838956d0d.jpeg

And while we were still in Tomorrowland, the band decided to make the most out of the unused space. Again, that was a surprise and some nice atmosphere in this section of the park.

    022b.thumb.jpeg.c74f62363c48e7fd6c4a576ed60c608d.jpeg

Now it's time to kill Emperor Zurg....I mean detain him...

    022c.thumb.jpeg.26b8dc0ae1ad5edbf921350a38a2face.jpeg

Disneyland ride? Check. Blaster you can shoot? Check. See who gets the highest score? Check. This ride is like a vide game = best ride in the park forJackson. We only rode it about 6 times.

    022d.thumb.jpeg.1035748522ad9b0d4adef2ca4e4792dd.jpeg

He got really good by the end of our vacation. The kid is insane in video games.

    023.thumb.jpeg.4c4033295decc0637f47cdf52b8031b6.jpeg

Fun fact...my boys love the video of Robb on the Matterhorn where he says, "Monster please...thank you...." that they wanted to reenact it. When the time came, they totally forgot to do it but they still said "Hey Harold!" every time we went by the Abominable Snowman.

    024.thumb.jpeg.ff4486fdc9fc8b4986dface036793e7e.jpeg

It seems that Griffin just crashes every car he decides to get in. I guess we need to work on that for the next 10 years before he gets his license.

    025.thumb.jpeg.2d4d7679523e869fa26442d1ff3b7b29.jpeg

We told the boys that we would lock them in jail all day unless they rode Gadget's Go Coaster with us....think it worked?

    026.thumb.jpeg.fb53b079f838fd24ccb373adf245c6e1.jpeg

Well it did. We made it on Gadget and I don't think anyone is as excited as me on this ride. Well, maybe the girl in the back is excited too.

    027.thumb.jpeg.4735767dadab6945114fcf7578bbc1f6.jpeg

Mickey did a quick change from his birthday outfit into his holiday outfit. Nice touch!

    028.thumb.jpeg.d7b19043757bc0f050f0b010534cb107.jpeg

And his trusty companion was there too. I honestly preferred these "walk up and take a picture, no waiting in line, no photo pass pay for picture" character encounters. I may be in the minority, but my boys didn't know any different so they thought this was normal.

    029.thumb.jpeg.0ff176c8ae37b226da0edaaf53a1bee9.jpeg

Time to head off the planet and into another Galaxy Far Far Away....

    029a.thumb.jpeg.e2f5e7789ab5725b28d98258e6084a85.jpeg

Griffin's favorite color is green...this is now Griffin's favorite droid.

    030.thumb.jpeg.ad81a87b3163643df5dcc1a4035a6a38.jpeg

The Supreme Leader converted my boys to the First Order. They were so serious about it that when we did the Disney PLAY App Star Wars DataPad, we had to do everything for the First Order.

    031.thumb.jpeg.950eb0273a614f5a807859026ef55ea3.jpeg

Yea re some Star Wars nerds in this family. So the fact that we got to go in the Millennium Falcon was so cool for everyone.

    032.thumb.jpeg.e47bba1bb6bd6174c22938fb510d5819.jpeg

Engineer (literally :) ) and the gunner are ready for lift off. We only crashed about 6 times from the pretty horrible pilots we had. Luckily, we went on again and the pilots knew what they were doing and we got a much smoother ride.

    033.thumb.jpeg.fe5aa5c41db44d4b441f694a1a1c3508.jpeg

We were fortunate enough to get on Rise of the Resistance both days we were at the park. This ride is seriously so insane. I don't think my boys could comprehend everything that was going on because there is so much to experience.

    034.thumb.jpeg.1d791fa84cab281808d3491a41d4b1a0.jpeg

But they were legit convinced that we were captured by the First Order and that we had to escape.

    035.thumb.jpeg.c06809257a1c5f166985cdafec1a40cb.jpeg

Snack time after Rise of the Resistance and talking about our favorite parts. Griffin still couldn't believe that we were captured.

    036.thumb.jpeg.b3b6f921110dd118013ac9592cbac7c1.jpeg

And all I got from Star Wars Land was a Diet Coke Bomb.

    037.thumb.jpeg.178ab4639973421c5a3f6ec74f14b34a.jpeg

We walked around and did some Datapad jobs and hacks that were on the Disney PLAY App. It was really enjoyable and we got to make droids move, speeders make noise and the X-Wing even had smoke coming out of it. It was a great experience and very immersive.

    038.thumb.jpeg.3656bec7ba8f8ddfcc6bfa3c530f66e6.jpeg

We even listened in on conversations between the First Order and the Resistance. It was insane!

    039.thumb.jpeg.ec8fd8f6a376392f8f5078b282f0fff8.jpeg

I can't tell if Griffin is shocked that it's taking Jackson this long to finish his Popsicle or if he is excited to hack some more droids.

    040.thumb.jpeg.4da187a246f1655b0269b4d9d0233894.jpeg

We got to chat with Rey for awhile. She was great and stayed in character through all the boy's questions.

    041.thumb.jpeg.6545e4242c8b968e402dbb82be5c36d4.jpeg

Leaving Batuu, we said good-bye to our fellow First Order Stormtroopers! We shall see you again!

    042.thumb.jpeg.78d5cebd89eaa9069c6d112a9eb7600a.jpeg

Our one and only ride on Splash Mountain. Can you guess which boy enjoyed it the most?

    043.thumb.jpeg.b31488b6ec1cd841461c18632202e046.jpeg

And we got completely drenched. Literally a wall of water came over the front and side of the boat. Fun times walking around with a wet butt the rest of the day.

    044.thumb.jpeg.22dba063ad810e1d44a8a3f7d3cc691f.jpeg

On our way to experience the best Haunted Mansion ever, we saw the best Halloween characters ever! Jack and Sally!

    045.thumb.jpeg.374cfd495b40b8230d52516af147c896.jpeg

Ready to ride in our Doom Buggies. Little did you know, I requested the Club 33 buggie and got it! (joking)

    046.thumb.jpeg.eb8428ce87c6368ca87e8bb59025f855.jpeg

The Gingerbread House this year was AMAZING!

    047.thumb.jpeg.509f31ed4b62d1f8a86a0d10920dd361.jpeg

Seriously, they should celebrate Halloween 365 days a year and keep this layover at Disneyland.

    048.thumb.jpeg.f105e1f3363269ff9fdfff08430e3a26.jpeg

The boys really did love the haunted Mansion Holiday and we rode it 5 times.

    049.thumb.jpeg.19509049f2307d43a7de79a5cba43cb8.jpeg

Time for more deliciousness food courtesy of the Tropical Hideaway! This is a great addition to the park since our last visit.

    050.thumb.jpeg.91ae4f2af96a9c84c04d92715a56152a.jpeg

Mango-Raspberry Dole Whip for the WIN!!!! It might be better than the original. I may get some haters for that, but don't knock it until you try it!

    051.thumb.jpeg.17c8928709044ea7c1dc576dcd84f92a.jpeg

The only ride in the park that always has the shortest line and doesn't get in trouble for child labor laws...the Canoes!

    052.thumb.jpeg.57ad1f271c03fb6a2237b4ae5bd0c3f6.jpeg

We made it over to Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer's Island. When we came last, this area was closed because they were building Star Wars Land so the River was empty.

    053.thumb.jpeg.24ece182f23a468356fb7ebd3b4a8392.jpeg

Oh man, my boys had a blast exploring this island.

    054.thumb.jpeg.fd1d9dc92099b24444000d23ec7e67df.jpeg

And I guess I could say that I had a blast too....

    055.thumb.jpeg.68ebc054a4a49548d848f66f166d8e04.jpeg

So many interactive things mixed in with trails, caves, climbing rocks and treasure!056.thumb.jpeg.0a7252be28f3d2e41aa3420ef381caf8.jpeg

Child Labor laws...nothing to see here

    057.thumb.jpeg.5cd192497164b4daacc222ce14371927.jpeg

Griffin said that it actually smelled like dead people. How he knows what dead people smell like is beyond me but we definitely will be having a talk about that at some point.

    058.thumb.jpeg.2b61d86d2ea02e3042a10adadf5a5c35.jpeg

    CAVES!!! 059.thumb.jpeg.532a4550d55aeeadd9c1cef42b90e187.jpeg

We found the Treasure! And Griffin was still trying to use the force (this time literal force) to pull the sword out.

    059a.thumb.jpeg.0cee75467ab3bb7a0dec64cfb7dd3bba.jpeg

Hey Captain Red...how's it going? We didn't steal any treasure from Pirate's Lair...I swear.060.thumb.jpeg.2022ef4d4c7235497c3978abe9731eb7.jpeg

Time for the Holiday Parade. Fun fact ... as a kid, I grew up in Southern California and went to Disneyland every year during Christmas time with my family. The holiday parade is one thing I remember vividly as a kid and these freakin toy soldiers used to scare the crap out of me because they were so loud. Thank goodness they don't have the soldier with the cymbals.

    061.thumb.jpeg.dc0046521c19dfdd30586f3b5e5b0505.jpeg

    Mrs. Claus leading the way...

    062.thumb.jpeg.ca9f64cbbfdf96643917166ea5c8bad6.jpeg

    Hey Mickey! Happy Birthday!

    063.thumb.jpeg.547cb4e33f99c4e55f9f3c81cdc314f8.jpeg

    Hey Minnie! Happy Birthday!

    064.thumb.jpeg.9a3ef7b05336487c005c65ee25fb8ba3.jpeg

These fat little snow people were so cute and their bellies would bounce around as they were walking...so funny.

    066.thumb.jpeg.5fc0c5dd8bec7b56f5502b59c6851e23.jpeg

I wonder why these two are here...it's not like it's a holiday with snow or anything...

    067.thumb.jpeg.691cd03be56ac35105c2f5a607516785.jpeg

Hi Elsa! Thanks for making it freezing today!

    068.thumb.jpeg.5b24406d9c4aa241b3e2f0b48f1dd4a3.jpeg

Where's Horace Horsecollar? Clarabelle needs her other half to come on these parades!

    069.thumb.jpeg.ab64b6f3781908041deca6d0d39af6fd.jpeg

Fun fact - You cannot eat these Gingerbread men.

    070.thumb.jpeg.130deecf18341bc438d490c7fc890db4.jpeg

The dogs made a gingerbread doghouse! How cute!

    071.thumb.jpeg.92a20b4e6ce75dc068d8371ea88091b0.jpeg

Now it's time for the obligatory "Princess section of the parade". Sometimes I wish that the princesses were spread out more and not on just one float or one section of a parade. They deserve better.

    072.thumb.jpeg.46538873460c1eab5308d4d9b1d1c489.jpeg

Either way, they all are still very beautiful and magical.

    074.thumb.jpeg.058f07f46e8dfe6fdb2b32e0d5a4e4f5.jpeg

    My favorite princess!

    075.thumb.jpeg.bb1e45804d40adc1d6ba60324f243905.jpeg

Jessie was telling the toy solider to drive carefully because he almost literally ran her over. Good thinking Jessie!

    76.thumb.jpeg.5348bc28c51d9f2a32bf7d279eb4f91d.jpeg

To quote one of my favorite Christmas movies, "Yippee-Ki-Yay, Mother ...." oh wait, this is a family friendly theme park. Hi Woody!

    077.thumb.jpeg.bd3cf35a5938a41bd36cb88c2843bb3a.jpeg

Why is Buzz's float always higher than Woody's? Anyone know the answer?

    078.thumb.jpeg.15e00b3ccca0b8fdbb9e8334ccb2827a.jpeg

These reindeers were also in the parades I remembered as a kid. So many good feels about it.

    079.thumb.jpeg.ee923ea7567c60503ae2a87a5aba20c7.jpeg

And then there's the man responsible for us not celebrating Halloween 365 days a year...totally joking people. Here's SANTA!!!!

    080.thumb.jpeg.4408e1bafa1f5ec961f417541196a61e.jpeg

After parade snack and nothing would be better than a Mickey Ice Cream Bar!

    081.thumb.jpeg.58cc0d1ca2bf1f4f9c6bac30188e93cd.jpeg

Hey look, now we can see the castle! And a kid took our picture!

    082.thumb.jpeg.84413898dc1974dea653bfa3a31e6dad.jpeg

Inside the castle, we got to enjoy the Sleeping Beauty story. The boys loved the scenes that were created within the castle. It may not be a big castle, but they thought it was cool walking "inside" of it.

    083.thumb.jpeg.596bdb522093905d46312c7f1a2c17cf.jpeg

Full Moon over the Matterhorn means good luck...good luck to everyone playing basketball at the top of the Matterhorn.

    084.thumb.jpeg.70070ddf1f556dbbc264533e21774842.jpeg

And when the sun goes down, that means nighttime, glowing, bubbling, insanely priced toys that break after one night. Great marketing Disney!

    085.thumb.jpeg.33d99892420383c09e4ce155c0422230.jpeg

But even though the castle is not that big, it still is pretty at night for the holiday's for what it has.

    086.thumb.jpeg.1bc5514590fd92fbbfe8af74b8576910.jpeg

    Very pretty.

    087.thumb.jpeg.a0ea83f2f5b611db7bf976c63fa106bd.jpeg

This was our Small World Experience. If you don't know what happened, then google "what happens when you mix water with electricity inside a building" and the first thing that pops up is a story about Small World.

    088.thumb.jpeg.9c8d5e53740dab2cc49210f9b55b4afc.jpeg

A look back down Main Street at night.

    089.thumb.jpeg.539e4610c6d9348c8aa05089d0bd6ee9.jpeg

One more look back at the castle.

    089a.thumb.jpeg.c5eb3b97caa84e0e43fb8dbef4509553.jpeg

Time to leave Disneyland and head back to our hotel for some fireworks viewing.

    090.thumb.jpeg.cbd8b00c82251dec762e6cdd6783fb69.jpeg

The Paradise Pier Hotel offered fireworks viewing and had the music piped in so we can literally just go straight to our room after fireworks. It was nice and we didn't have to deal with the Main Street crowd and insanity.

    091.thumb.jpeg.12550bac76450331ae920052b7e15e4e.jpeg

They were a little far away, but it was still nice to see.

    092.thumb.jpeg.d598681b2586c5efa8ebd2b01e32dd2e.jpeg

And this was the first time our boys have seen a fireworks show live, their eyes were so wide and they were just in awe of everything.

    093.thumb.jpeg.ebf0627e27df5313780fc8518d33d534.jpeg

The fireworks weren't anything to write home about and to me, the show felt short, but it was still great to see fireworks.

    094.thumb.jpeg.3066743493f5247568dfb0b7209feb0e.jpeg

With the music piped in, it really felt like a magical way to end the day .... until .....

    095.thumb.jpeg.813c52eea7921959151f3eced3f630f9.jpeg

Griffin busted out his nighttime, glowing, bubbling, insanely priced toys that break after one night machine (that none of us knew he brought) and pretended he was creating snow for everyone that was watching. It really was a magical way to end the first part of our vacation.

The Disneyland cats. Because if they weren't there, then who knows how many rodents (other than Chip and Dale) would be roaming freely throughout the park.

Part 2 will be posted shortly.

  13. I'll be there! Can't wait for this awesomeness! I remember the good ol' days when there were some TPR Trivia during meet-ups and coaster trips and they were some of the most fun I've had...EVER!!! Seriously people...if you're not signed up, you should check this out!

Jimmy "See you at 5pm stupid Arizona time" Bo

  14. Bert, The funhouse was open on Joker. Six Flags did a great job with extra precautions for COVID, but as a whole, it seemed like the state of Texas didn't care too much (plus a lot of people around the park either not wearing masks or wearing them improperly). Six Flags was only letting your party through the funhouse (so I got to go by myself) and the main line was outside...before the funhouse.

  15. Happy 2020 y'all!!!!

But in all seriousness, i had the pleasure of going to the great state of Texas this past weekend and i had some time to visit Six Flags Fiesta Texas. I haven't been to every Six Flags park, but this one is one of my favorites in terms on scenery, ride selection and theming. Six Flags and theming usually don't go in the same sentence but i love how this park does it's best at separating out rides and themes rather than just placing a new ride in a calling it good (there are some exceptions at this park and I'll get to that later).

Well, as usual with my reports...let's get on with the show (and be sure to read the captions!)...001.thumb.jpg.71beae715b00bc75cebb6a955acba063.jpg

Driving around in Texas and I see something peeking out over the quarry wall. What can it be?

    002.thumb.jpg.12fa4166ba01aed7aa13972b78babe61.jpg

Oh, it must be a Six Flags park right here in the great state of Texas!

    003.thumb.jpg.8b282e4bc88dfb09895c33624b27e654.jpg

After breezing through the temperature checkpoint, no touch bag check, metal detector, COVID swab, and butt probe, i make my way to the front gate with my reservation in hand.

    004.thumb.jpg.30ce39d62ed469036a303c8a27129b81.jpg

Even though Halloween just ended...there is already Christmas decoration up. Last time i was at this park was in 2007. Let's see if anything has changed since then, shall we?

    005.thumb.jpg.53080b8019e798fd9659933d4047f07e.jpg

Well, Boomerang is still there and unfortunately it's still the first ride you see. Welcome to Six Flags...let's bash your brains in!

    006.thumb.jpg.3e86e3c46343670dafdd8cf1dce3ad20.jpg

Remember when i said that this park likes to have theming? Well, this coaster is an exception. It feels like it's just left over from an era that no one cares about but they don't want to remove it because surprisingly, people still ride this thing.

    007.thumb.jpg.2f8cb9515e5f140be964d0559d2b5614.jpg

Time for some good Dog chasing Bird type rides.

    008.thumb.jpg.1b61c318611665a0fabe4a7f89cd315e.jpg

The airtime on this ride is nuts! And it's a family coaster? Well done Six Flags!

    009.thumb.jpg.f1048f211f67723e438975693805c6a6.jpg

Something seems new since my last visit...you mean there isn't a terrible wooden coaster that wants to punch you in the kidney in this location anymore?

    010.thumb.jpg.f6dc8bf193b468d3f6e7110fa18df35a.jpg

Wait...there's theming? Wow! I can't wait to ride this thing!

    011.thumb.jpg.dc80f56f385e41887e844b0abc453d75.jpg

Snake Wranglers! Being from Arizona, we sure could use these guys around every corner. I can't tell you how many snakes I've seen (and even rattlesnakes) since living in Arizona.

    012.thumb.jpg.f74526dc13101cb12fefec50a45b7c47.jpg

Iron Rattler sure has one hell of a first drop! I love how it utilizes the Quarry Wall all around the ride.

    013.thumb.jpg.5e2efb770ddd8802ab27d8a159d2f255.jpg

This ride was non stop insane! Diviing, turning, looping, being thrown out of my seat...such a great ride and RMC really knows how to deliver!

    014.thumb.jpg.3a0819d8eb3a60d0f87043959c3628ae.jpg

The one thing I loved about this park was that it seemed liked there were always a couple kiddie rides near the bigger, more thrilling rides. That way, if little ones don't want to ride the more thrilling ride, they can hop on some of these kiddie rides. I think that's a great idea, rather than having ALL kiddie rides in one location and not near the major thrill rides.

    015.thumb.jpg.569fef464d13c8dfe31fc106b875977a.jpg

This ride was supposedly new for this year...unfortunately it was closed for the season when i went.

    016.thumb.jpg.8efec7d6983b5d820504a4d5da30f6e1.jpg

I'd like to see this car and the Snake Wrangler car race. My money is on this guy to win!

    017.thumb.jpg.410be08fe11dab9c5b0a42787c805a1b.jpg

Looking back at some of the Western area of the park's theming.

    018.thumb.jpg.75f6b1651f4ce02b9c3f5cf4beb753ac.jpg

If you ever make it to Six Flags Fiesta Texas...this picture is a must! Such a great area of the park!

    019.thumb.jpg.2747f22d40dd90a985640fb8f519e922.jpg

    Oh and look....theming! ROCKS!!!!

    020.thumb.jpg.088c4f48f1bb9201c2f1bf81800d56e1.jpg

And not just any rock...it's a CLIFF ROCK!!! You're welcome for learning some history here on Theme Park Review.

    021.thumb.jpg.8c123d175bbe8dee9da6a967387d866a.jpg

They had a mini Bellagio show going on.

    022.thumb.jpg.cd4fcad8908146826371c5b2a3464060.jpg

H....2.....Ho? ..... Oh, i see what they did there....now that is clever marketing. Nice touch!

    023.thumb.jpg.79a3aab6cacb00de3d25565e9f0f51e0.jpg

Another great area of the park to cool off during the hot days. When i went it was freezing and only 78 degrees. Coming from Arizona, 78 is cold when it's over 100 degrees 115 days out of the year.

    024.thumb.jpg.57bb5026891ef4fc70d32214c02e7183.jpg

Well this looks like fun! Who thinks they can touch the Quarry Wall?

    025.thumb.jpg.7c36e5c2d7338b2ac6c7bad1499a52a1.jpg

This picture gives you a better perspective of how far it actually is from the wall. Still riding this thing, you feel like you're going to hit it.

    026.thumb.jpg.57b30f54fa5bd98c84c2f949e89a25ee.jpg

New for this year....The Joker eats you and he ends uppitiest with pink eye.

    027.thumb.jpg.e1a4b80420fb00df4d54c101cd79f59e.jpg

This was noted as the tallest in the world. I went on Wonder Woman at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and CraZanity at Six Flags Magic Mountain when they were the tallest. Is this thing like 5 feet taller? Anyway, this thing was HUGE and you can see it ALL around the park.

    028.thumb.jpg.cba4fd790980dc09fac13875c3c7fb2d.jpg

Once again, right across from Joker's pink eye was another family ride. If people didn't want to ride Joker (or get pink eye) they can tackle all the villains from the DC comics.

    029.thumb.jpg.82a7af5ea32b476216a76cde57658d5f.jpg

And speaking of defeated DC villains...it's time to get punched by Superman!

    030.thumb.jpg.7aaaa899245480a22b402cc390717ce0.jpg

This was one of my favorites when i visited in 2007. Sadly, it's definitely got a rattle to it and I could only ride it about 10 times before i was done.

    031.thumb.jpg.e3cf71a1ece0708158d7e80bd5720d28.jpg

NEVER SEEN BEFORE!!! THE BACKSIDE OF SUPERMAN!!!!!

    032.thumb.jpg.5a559e1bc9e5ff1bf98e624896c86568.jpg

Through the trees!!! (Always have to have one of those in my reports...and this is going way back before some of you kids were born!)

    033.thumb.jpg.bc65ea783104145a6da4dd336f5b7f67.jpg

Super man is still a fun ride. I just hope that I had it on an off day and it's not always rattling and brain destroying.

    034.thumb.jpg.e68927759c99dde9fcebd1f8d05305f8.jpg

Hey look...a kiddie coaster for the win! Sad and Pathetic Coaster Count going up!

    035.thumb.jpg.7c592f75e18397034befd1cc24bd8948.jpg

Time for lunch. The servers were very nice and the restaurant was very clean and took many precautions in regards to the COVID thing that's going around.

    036.thumb.jpg.edeb5dea205491617dfc31da1b13f28d.jpg

My $32 lunch...and that price is not an exaggeration.

    037.thumb.jpg.26739611c8fb1ea1824b14177328f0a4.jpg

It was nice seeing some of the characters out and about. They kept their distance but it's still nice to see some entertainers still have a job during this time.

    038.thumb.jpg.0a941f8ae38126ff80ee4e383993ab53.jpg

Time to head down the street and check out more "City Block" theming.

    039.thumb.jpg.abf338695c260b1ae70ecfa9a31ebbc0.jpg

And what better Super Hero theme fits in with a City Block (other than any Marvel related one)...that is the one and only Batman! And i guess he's playing in a movie theater? Sure, why not?

    040.thumb.jpg.2665ff0243738160f198c01245c053f1.jpg

Oooo! Controlly thingys that make Super Hero know more than normal people!

    041.thumb.jpg.c9d823382c0e2470da22475ac68d4c69.jpg

    Hi Jarvis! Oh wait...wrong guy....

    042.thumb.jpg.2ca6539f60897d6aadb69d47d93fd07e.jpg

Batman has a pretty sweet ride. Although i would hate to have to change those tires. I mean, where would you even have the spare tire?

    043.thumb.jpg.3bea1f1c14db9da3187b9af099e68250.jpg

I will be honest...I could not wait to get off this ride. Maybe it's me and my old age, or being in Arizona and not hitting up as many theme parks any more, but this thing nearly made me nauseous. I can deal with rides flipping and looping when i know it's coming, but this thing was out of control and I was ready for it to be done. With that being said, it was still fun, but I've been on it and I don't feel like I need to wait more than 5 minutes to ride another one of these.

    044.thumb.jpg.6e2e3d179f90258f1b77d742fe82a82d.jpg

But the Batman Hustler Entrance??? What is Bruce Wayne doing for his real job now?

    045.thumb.jpg.94633816d4b73b228e9f01e677fa8ade.jpg

One second after this phot was taken, someone lost their cell phone. Seriously people...this thing was spinning out of control!

    046.thumb.jpg.edbb3da7b4560181db3d6ad0590aeb12.jpg

But it was a nice addition to the park. I think this is where there used to be an antique car ride there from when i went in 2007, but Batman was a nice upgrade!

    047.thumb.jpg.c925510156efbe0b4826369245f140ee.jpg

Looking back after getting off Batman....the Joker was having his last laugh at me.

    048.thumb.jpg.dc27ae2b0a87c03f55d7a70993620306.jpg

Time for the ride i was most excited about on this trip...Superman Cobra Roll. No seriously, Wonder Woman...my first single rail coaster by RMC.

    049.thumb.jpg.293f1c8023c2949696af062c3253d2a8.jpg

    Hi Gal!

    050.thumb.jpg.0a17622adb849af73861bff7f8ada37d.jpg

Fun story...my first ride was unusual. I've never been on one of these and I didn't know that the train doesn't stop in the station. The ride operators were splitting up the cars with people in groups. I was by myself (yes, I was a loner in the Lone Star State) and they sat me in the very back row. Two other large humans sat in the first 2 rows. The train got to a section in the station where it was about to go up the lift hill but then they stop it...the 2 large humans were too large and couldn't fit in the restraints. Instead of putting other people on the ride, they let me go...by myself....in the back row....by myself. AND HOLY HELL this ride kicked my @$$ and whipped me around.

    051.thumb.jpg.6a30984a516bf212342992c2da9e401b.jpg

After experiencing my first ride by myself, I had to go back on and see if it was just because it was just me in the back or if every ride was that insane.....

    052.thumb.jpg.7c12abffe160c28637d050aa51866ebd.jpg

EVERY RIDE WAS THAT INSANE!!! Seriously, RMC outdid themselves here. This thing is a winner and with so many clones of these rides going up, I'm definitely not sad about that. This ride was the winner of the day!

    053.thumb.jpg.ba5df292a8dbe05a974ee155dd2930af.jpg

Time to head on down an empty street in Texas the SCREAM!

    054.thumb.jpg.44d60581aae4849129399568a510abc9.jpg

These rides are fun. And with this one launching up and then launching down...it's well worth the 2 minute wait I had.

    055.thumb.jpg.847f5dc940421011e541c59e6ceed550.jpg

Another fun fact...next to SCREAM! was another couple kiddie rides for the younger folks.

    056.thumb.jpg.435163e61e2b1237fcc3192c7973134d.jpg

In case the little ones didn't like super tall drop rides, they had a couple options right next to SCREAM!

    057.thumb.jpg.41221caac0f58f9b5c9e1fac39491946.jpg

Time to head to Ocean front property where there will be great views of the beach and waves....

    058.thumb.jpg.7785238ceda31d4166c0a4d52e14f843.jpg

...Or just more rides on a fake Boardwalk. But what is that I see in the distance? It's not Scooby Doo?!?!?!?!

    059.thumb.jpg.aa6af9c86e0ed0ba52b67b53e58489a8.jpg

It's the cheap version of Pirates of the Caribbean where you shoot them and get blasted by cannons and sneak up on Pirates having sex in a bed....you think I'm lying?

    060.thumb.jpg.11fec7b5d6d0a4c622706358a7cb14d3.jpg

First off, this high quality realistic Pirate tells you a tale of treachery, debauchery, and scandal (and no...not the election)

    061.thumb.jpg.790e927627a4ef69e936f7abbef32f31.jpg

There's a map to be followed! Follow the Map! Even though you aren't steering your vessel but who's really counting these days?

    062.thumb.jpg.c37e99bb76e090c88882c092f8be8dfe.jpg

Next is some sort of Haunted Mansion stretching room where the pictures change.

    063.thumb.jpg.23f55db5742aba77af96925d1522e3cf.jpg

And you're off...getting blasted by cannons....

    064.thumb.jpg.c08cca589eb0c85e817836a5e68d3598.jpg

...and sneaking up on Pirates having sex (and you thought I was kidding!)

    066.thumb.jpg.58b90028544652055514ef56cd3eb34a.jpg

It really was a fun ride and very different from the Scooby Doo ride that was there when iI was here in 2007.

    067.thumb.jpg.291bea5e0577a7a76923e1fec8a5102c.jpg

Continuing down the Boardwalk, it's time to meet Tony Hawk....or someone who isn't Tony Hawk but still a skateboarder.

    068.thumb.jpg.2875badb33a030d8dba839f61147b230.jpg

Pandemonium (previously Tony Hawk's Big Spin, previously Joker's Revenge, previously a Quarry Wall)

    069.thumb.jpg.15a6b863a48e4c993c0bc100e206a375.jpg

These are fun little rides and great for the whole family. I still wonder if they will ever put something larger in the area behind this ride.

    071.thumb.jpg.ce09ac32963a5a216df7b8087a556c3c.jpg

Time to take a shot of Fireball Whiskey!

    072.thumb.jpg.335b0f6972831b21abbd29ff17440da9.jpg

Heading back from the Boardwalk, the Joker is still laughing at me almost getting nauseous on Batman. Let it go man!

    073.thumb.jpg.e6e4a4b238f9b3154544f8023f939ba3.jpg

Another ride with great theming. You walk into a haunted house and then this creepy ghost (poltergeist) pushes you out the house and takes you through one hell of a mess of track...but then returns you safely because he's a nice ghost. Did I get the theme correct?

    074.thumb.jpg.06780ac7e71502eca23d2bcf47d2863e.jpg

It really is a mess of track.

    075.thumb.jpg.be35539d950391b4f9dd92110af57976.jpg

Next up, my favorite area of the park. Especially during this time of year when the trees are changing (we don't have seasons in Arizona...we have Hot and Cold...there's no Fall or Spring)

    076.thumb.jpg.cd6e7d4941b49d554b30fba172e071f2.jpg

In this wonderful German town is none other than the GRAND Carousel. It's not Big...it's GRAND!

    077.thumb.jpg.695cd5f9e36e2d64dbe16a01a1c5c6cd.jpg

Also, why not get the kids into Beer Steins but cleverly say it's a Kinderstein. Start drinking at a young age.

    078.thumb.jpg.8e3f164450db1f20ec64a2f582ffe194.jpg

This is a fnun little water ride. And I got absolutely SOAKED on it!

    079.thumb.jpg.fe3a001fe73a5928af222d977ce44eaa.jpg

Little did I know, that this Dragon was going to be the culprit in my soaking.

    080.thumb.jpg.050d4bbd303223192a376cfc2bf64434.jpg

Yay...it's a fun little water ride. Not a big drop, not that much water...but....

    081.thumb.jpg.30222ae2ce671d3f148ed23940b7f977.jpg

Then this guy decides to spit his nasty spit water all over everyone and it was absolutely drenching! Thanks Dragon...I had wet clothes in my bags on the airplane!

    083.thumb.jpg.22b2e3ab17b3a339532d84e9419df469.jpg

Nice little drop near the end. This would seem like the area where you would get wet...but nope! It was the damn Dragon from before!

    084.thumb.jpg.1e75dcef27e4ffaf3624f077774a6bc7.jpg

Time to leave this beautifully themed area and head to the best themed area and ride in the entire park.....

    085.thumb.jpg.a4fa8f12628029143440b298727e3562.jpg

...Goliath...oh wait, what? Where the hell is this ride, what is this ride, how does it fit in anywhere? Oh, you mean it's a ride that didn't get destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and it's free so they just decided to put it at the front of the park and copy a sign used at Six Flags Magic Mountain because it looks cool. Ok, that makes title sense!

    086.thumb.jpg.70213ab5de4d1c6be18d9b3fddefa2eb.jpg

The ride is found in the corner of the front of the park past the lockers...so in other words...h=it's the Goliath of Lockers and Stroller rentals!

    087.thumb.jpg.fe02b3158d3230709d1d21ffff47c53a.jpg

Although not a parking lot coaster...it's still great to watch from the parking lot.

    089.thumb.jpg.393ef9ec53a55b367127ecec433136bd.jpg

Remember people...when you visit Six Flags DoTheSix!!!!!!!

    Thanks for reading!

  16. I'm finally catching up on all these reports and I've come to realize something Chuck....YOU MUST BE RICH!!!! Seriously, how many trips have you been on?!?! But in all seriousness, if you know you want to go on a trip, then you can plan for it but it is really fun to see all your trip reports in a nutshell. I've always enjoyed reading your reports when you posted them rather soon after the trips because your commentary on the photos always cracks me up.

If I need a good laugh, I have a couple cocktails and then read a famous Chuck "cfc" Trip Report and I'll be aching in my side from laughing so much.

Jimmy "These pictures are great Chuck!!!" Bo

  17. ^^ Arizona is not going to be at max capacity and if people think it will, then they get the hell off the road because ever since this state opened up, a whole lot of STUPID returned to the streets. Everyone who has been in their own quarantine and hasn't driven in the past month, needs to go through driver's ed course again.

Now, let's get back to the main reason of this thread...KNOTT'S BERRY FARM!!!!! Who loves boysenberry jam on their toast? Who can't wait for this park in California to open back up? My boys loved Knott's Berry Farm when we visited a couple years ago and now they pretty much love everything with Snoopy in it. We even got old school Comic Strip books with some of the comics in them to read. It's really entertaining and hilarious.

This park really brings back memories because when I was growing in California, I used to go here all the time. I am excited to see the changes they will implement when it is time for them to open up and i'm interested in the virtual queue system.

    Jimmy "I LOVE KNOTT'S" Bo

  18. Awesome stuff Chuck! I can't wait to see more. I've always enjoyed reading your trip reports because you put so much thought and wit into your descriptions of the photos as well as the story behind your trip. I still can't believe the first official trip was sooooo long ago. Thanks for the memories Chuck and i can't wait to see if you have any crazy pictures with me. HAHA

Jimmy "This is s great idea Chuck" Bo

  19. Castle Hotel

I don't even know where to begin with this place. When we booked this place far in advance and didn't tell the boys we were going to go here, we didn't know what to expect. Well, it exceeded anything we expected. The staff, the resort, the amenities, the atmosphere and the overall experience was just AWESOME! I will say that if you want to visit Legoland for more than one day, then i highly recommend staying at one of the resorts on site. When we were there, the Legoland Hotel was closed so we only got to see the Castle Hotel but we were not sad about that. There were so many things everywhere to keep anyone and everyone entertained.

I will let the photos speak for themselves but if we ever decide to do Legoland again for more than a day, we will definitely be going to the Castle Hotel again.

    Enjoy!

    001.thumb.jpg.1043dfce061c3f31867dd1e6c589ad45.jpg

The entrance to the Castle Hotel is very Grand...but it has also been taken over by spiders!

    002.thumb.jpg.6d681c50ab65e8cf16ea0dc2f798942a.jpg

Our boys were very excited and surprised because they had no idea we were coming here.

    003.thumb.jpg.78daab25be6604639a3e2696b67b8383.jpg

    Excited faces!!!

    004.thumb.jpg.8590b947eda8d1c4e0130ef829434da0.jpg

The Lobby was amazing! While the parents check in, there were so many things for the kids to do.

    005.thumb.jpg.5f0874f95d6271dd4cc2d580a575e7b3.jpg

There was a slide in the lobby which made Griffin the happiest kid in the world.

    006.thumb.jpg.8b17eb6139807c659164276e0fb81bac.jpg

There was the royal chair where there's a tiny Frog King on top of the chair that talks and sings to you when you sit on it.

    007.thumb.jpg.f847467b3205101ef417771693f65329.jpg

Griffin is excited to explore more of the lobby!

    008.thumb.jpg.cb0a144a9b106b3de08469a4f2416ff9.jpg

There's a Knock-Knock Door, which tells jokes and stories when you "knock" on it.

    009.thumb.jpg.252ff2dfe4ac455adde3bb5c2b618e9e.jpg

There's even a jail that the kids can place themself in when they know they have done something bad. And the mouse with the key will never let them out!

    010.thumb.jpg.0d0211c38531feb0860e10e3aeb097b0.jpg

And not to mention a giant pit full of LEGOs where you can build anything and everything!

    011.thumb.jpg.ff4569ce60a1095beac6a793758836f5.jpg

Up the stairs, they had the sorting hat from Harry Potter. My boys have heard the audio books for the first 2 books and seen the first 2 movies and they love Harry Potter. Jackson said that the hat told him he was in Slytherin.

    012.thumb.jpg.8486d2acd1bd28307fd4c56d9fe79921.jpg

While of course Griffin was in Gryffindor.

    013.thumb.jpg.5b9d436d4892fcb3381f170cd2addaaa.jpg

They even had the full Hogwarts LEGO Castle on Display! (only $399.99)

    015.thumb.jpg.208458e823df9f0eea14889879dc358d.jpg

Our favorite souvenir at any park we go to are the Penny Machines. We collected 21 pennies while we were here this visit and we can collect more on our next visit. The boys love the Penny Machines more than getting a stuffed animal or some other souvenir and the pennies usually are cheaper and last longer than a stuffed animal.

    016.thumb.jpg.848872694cb65fbd8f1387f71b75f3db.jpg

    Time for the Playground!!

    017.thumb.jpg.53a961143ea7eda7ea57cc823cddc211.jpg

Great area for kids to run around in.

    018.thumb.jpg.9cd12c44b6752865913e0a77b3579ea7.jpg

My boys especially love the "Ninja Course" on the playground.

    019.thumb.jpg.da0da6d36927bcbbf43976ee272d80a4.jpg

The playground had everything for every age.

    021.thumb.jpg.9f3e7585798f3370951d80a199f4bc66.jpg

Time to test our Ninja skills!

    022.thumb.jpg.cb9e94163dae2a19875e402bf7e22fa6.jpg

My boys love American Ninja Warrior so every playground they go to, they make up their own course. This playground had it's own course so they thought that the playground was AWESOME!

    023.thumb.jpg.516105154a4e35ef8bf1ed7212fa349e.jpg

Balancing is a difficult task when your big brother is trying to pass you.

    024.thumb.jpg.c9118176e98733866320fcc5e067c185.jpg

But it had everything for kids to play on!

    025.thumb.jpg.bc5792c646b71f46ff91e5fc2c3b3e13.jpg

Plus, there was a theater right next to the playground where they showed LEGO shows.

    026.thumb.jpg.fdfed7da48ea3a7c6e98a35e77bd33da.jpg

The directors made sure that the correct show was playing.

    027.thumb.jpg.7d7335712583a2eb79158d190439f876.jpg

And it wouldn't be complete unless they had characters. Here's the Queen of the Castle.

    028.thumb.jpg.5654b6f3a7802f5d7e213579260fdb50.jpg

Time to check out the room!!!!!

    028a.thumb.jpg.0c8efbc8563b0d177737764dbef8b101.jpg

As soon as you walk in, you know this is going to be an epic room!

    029.thumb.jpg.7427380f81f95a5d813e4c1a78ef896c.jpg

In order to open this safe, the kids have to do a scavenger hunt every day and crack the code. The scavenger hunt takes you all around the Hotel and you have to answer the questions with numbers. Once the correct numbers have been chosen, you get to open the safe and inside there's a surprise. What's the surprise? It's a new LEGO Set every day you have your room serviced!

    030.thumb.jpg.8c83fbe5b2f74c223c8af782341a5797.jpg

The wall paper everywhere had something to look at.

    031.thumb.jpg.e40a274064155d4823c0f8d6b3640aeb.jpg

Here's the kids Bunk Bed! (And their own "room")

    032.thumb.jpg.660a1c4ef9d7ca89ef81bbbbdff8eed5.jpg

And there is even a projection on the ceiling that shows a starry night with an occasional shooting star.

    033.thumb.jpg.a8fafc5fba158eba6a3beea9d6fa5963.jpg

Here's the adult bed (King Size)

    034.thumb.jpg.6a4cd11640a3fc2d3ad52a6358601e0b.jpg

With our very own stained glass window!

    035.thumb.jpg.88fbb7416722b5deb9dd941cb88e9e15.jpg

There are LEGO figures throughout the room. This Dragon watches over us while we sleep (not creepy at all...)

    036.thumb.jpg.eecb4827c257611cc21705301fef7624.jpg

This mouse is holding up a book. And what is that giant LEGO Head you ask? That's the Ice bucket. So AWESOME!

    037.thumb.jpg.b322c24ff3f26ac5ebd643bc53e3b470.jpg

There is always something to look at on the walls.

    038.thumb.jpg.05101f7ed25177ae6c1e19e450a46e16.jpg

There are even questions on some of the wall paper where you have to find things within your room!

    039.thumb.jpg.735d35262403618c27233ac8de0f2b01.jpg

Jackson thought this was awesome because it was a great way to find everything in the room.

    040.thumb.jpg.291980ba07aa49c0adb3f0794fa158b0.jpg

Griffin thought he could sleep in the giant bed....

    041.thumb.jpg.9e964a7a294fc253f172ba9db81cd26f.jpg

...but the great thing about the boys having their own room was that they had their own TV too. So after a long day at the park, nothing like relaxing and watching TV with "milk" and cookies on your bunk bed.

    042.thumb.jpg.f70ee5cd6ccc698fd7cd4e64d3fabb5d.jpg

Jackson even did some of the LEGO sets that were in the treasure safe!

    043.thumb.jpg.0a53628ca1f08d87227a8a88361bcbd5.jpg

Time to check out the restaurant. At the Castle Hotel, it was the Dragons Den...and complete with LEGO figures everywhere.

    044.thumb.jpg.da5e2fde596a5e4eb7f155292e94ac86.jpg

While you waited for a table, there were thing for the kids to do. They could make pictures with LEGOs

    045.thumb.jpg.fdd8d11e524dec1bb11c811dc664b7be.jpg

They could see how skinny they are before they eat and then how fat they are after they eat in the crazy mirrors.

    046.thumb.jpg.6510f01f83d4a5b296bb333d149c8bed.jpg

Take a spin on the spinning wheel and do whatever it says!

    047.thumb.jpg.d80b23bd87e7d65c1e813a2827382e85.jpg

The great thing about Legoland is that they really do care about people with allergies. Before you get your table, the hostess asks if anyone has an allergy. If you do (like Jackson) then the chef comes out and tells you want is safe on the menu to have. For breakfast (since it's a buffet and free with your stay at the hotel) the chef comes out and shows you what is safe on the buffet line. They really went far and above anything we've experienced in regards to how much they care about people with allergies. And another plus, is that they are a peanut free facility because Jackson is also allergic to peanuts.

    048.thumb.jpg.b93bae9ffea2b025837357b8ed9a1910.jpg

The boys found Dragon eggs while we waited for our dinner.

    049.thumb.jpg.aca0257e0b5411011d6d2c28fd1d3c7f.jpg

In the morning, the chef actually cooked Jackson dairy free pancakes...which is a huge deal for him because he loves pancakes but we always have to make it from scratch at home because almost no where serves them without having to use dairy.

    050.thumb.jpg.34e8f7b93ae7ea6efa0755106c057a69.jpg

So of course Griffin got the real pancakes and ate them up.

    051.thumb.jpg.c0c14e9a8988ec037d611a847a9529a8.jpg

There are little LEGO figures all throughout the restaurant. It really gave you something to look at everywhere you looked.

    052.thumb.jpg.f4abcd0659dce85c62dac669e51ddfc5.jpg

Griffin wanted to lock himself in jail one more time while we walked around at night.

    053.thumb.jpg.a1c649947fcf29cff91b8647503de512.jpg

    Here's the inside of jail.

    054.thumb.jpg.c830cbba92170e81e96e1ee07c93d2d3.jpg

You can also push the button to make the wizard talk and then everything above him starts to move.

    055.thumb.jpg.f5f8605b89299c12c1153752ccf4648f.jpg

Another outside shot of the hotel

    056.thumb.jpg.809c8add8321fdfad803989af70bc78a.jpg

    Again...this place is AWESOME!

    057.thumb.jpg.78f2d835c0eeccce934e58a7058d2b39.jpg

Time to say farewell to the Knights, Kings and Queens at the Hotel.

    058.thumb.jpg.f81ed235794de57ba22d1a490619296c.jpg

At night, lights make the Hotel even more spooky with the spider webs.

    059.thumb.jpg.7878a4c4b2ffb7701fb07effe3a4c91b.jpg

And thus concludes the trip. Everything at the Legoland Resort was AWESOME!

  20. Legoland Part II

Time to ... you guessed it ... Build a Boat!

    53.thumb.jpg.406fd65ee0e92dfe6ebbadce076723b3.jpg

Kids can build a boat out of LEGOs and race it down the river

    54.thumb.jpg.63508a1a68eafeea0ab155b5b40286ee.jpg

You pull the lever to release the boat and watch it either make it to the end or crash down the river.

    55.thumb.jpg.3e78c40a324c6bce103aeadad8dff404.jpg

Here's a good look at the river.

    56.thumb.jpg.2de1e0e87491baa501326ba3cb24f190.jpg

Griffin's didn't make it most of the time but he still had a fun time building them.

    57.thumb.jpg.e19c69e219b9857060ccaa4eb89c838c.jpg

    SPACESHIP!

Benny is our favorite LEGO Character

    59.thumb.jpg.4830556337d1e4cf3df6966891362898.jpg

They had scenes from the LEGO Movie 2

    60.thumb.jpg.aac3c04f0c9b88af44b1cbe36b451f52.jpg

The scenes were very impressive to see how they are constructed.

    61.thumb.jpg.6cb08c362d7d8bad18c28d11222043f4.jpg

Then we got to see Wildstyle ... or Lucy

    62.thumb.jpg.554e5e21c1bd2c17f8b7995372b32d0a.jpg

    The boys loved seeing her!

LEGO Movie World is going to open next Spring in California

    64.thumb.jpg.6a7366eee3e2666ae274dc427d00f8cb.jpg

The posters had some of the rides that will be there and pictures from the park in Florida. It's going to be a great addition and it's taking over where HeartLake City was.

    65.thumb.jpg.a41028dea3d2a95f544c0ede95c28b49.jpg

Time to head up the Hill for some food.

    66.thumb.jpg.01b4480587b59872d1b57db5a2e34f71.jpg

    The Royal Feast!

    67.thumb.jpg.3d5ee62f4fe744d60e7934095ec6e844.jpg

Jackson got to have sorbet! He is allergic to Dairy so he was very excited that Legoland takes care of people with allergies and are very nice and cooperative with people you need special restrictions on their food.

    67a.thumb.jpg.7f6aa7bf61739dad0f76fe7f1e3be93d.jpg

Here's my treat! Apple Fries are to Legoland like what Dole Whip is to Disneyland...it's a necessary treat!

    68.thumb.jpg.8e2da1b120cb2d3bf02ec2fab5d8bca6.jpg

    Time to ride the Dragon!

    69.thumb.jpg.fc6279d02d82a3bce4a6558281bbdbfd.jpg

Griffin rode this twice while Jackson did his own Ninja Warrior routine on the playground.

    70.thumb.jpg.fc58431c0637fc1e214c74370d5399d2.jpg

It's still such a great family ride. I love the dark ride section of the coaster too!

    71.thumb.jpg.2d0ca372f073bb6e843d8645d2fd93ca.jpg

This Knight is ready to take on the Black Knight!

    72.thumb.jpg.3d1c96dcea2bdb3570cbfce654e6f153.jpg

....and.....this Knight needs to grow a couple more inches.....

    73.thumb.jpg.791e7763ea55699c17a5cafc72c76939.jpg

Jackson's favorite ride at the par. He rode it about 15 times while we were there.

    74.thumb.jpg.bfdcd972c0115ac72dafd83447fc233e.jpg

You get the ride your own horse and joust with LEGO figures around the track.

    75.thumb.jpg.caf0729124da28843623398349eb0ab5.jpg

And then you defeat the Black Knight at the end. Jackson loved it!

    76.thumb.jpg.54d3b7298adaf8d6d41fe0c041f0ff95.jpg

There was still some spooky theming around the park!

    77.thumb.jpg.fb96d78e923b69e37879d7f38a0d25e0.jpg

Deep Sea Adventure! New this year and and AWESOME addition to the park!

    78.thumb.jpg.9166f95ad505258fec1025ed46b0f107.jpg

    Great theming outside.

    79.thumb.jpg.d3010355a929cd1339f1126d04c6441f.jpg

And like almost all other attractions...they have an area for kids to build LEGOs while the adults wait in line.

Here is the vessel for your voyage!

    83.thumb.jpg.97a52d86838f8a42a27b89af1477c418.jpg

You look through portholes and can see several LEGO figures and real fish, sharks, and sting rays

    84.thumb.jpg.f645eb61cf3611d6487572b414e54c0e.jpg

There is a display that shows you what you need to find and when you find it, you tap the display and it logs that you found that item.

    85.thumb.jpg.529620583dea6ab72d88f9d407ec58e0.jpg

There were so many things to find and it was fun to see real fish and sharks swim along the submarine.

    86.thumb.jpg.1c73b9da1b1a8a3e485f7aaef2f24376.jpg

The LEGO figures added the special LEGO feel to the ride.

    87.thumb.jpg.5645deaa3dd880019b1a25ca7e60c3d2.jpg

Once you were down with your voyage, you got to see how your ranked in finding all the items. It was such a fun ride and I hope more rides like this are built. Great for the entire family (No height limit!!!)

    88.thumb.jpg.168cfd505505f42cfeeff6a86bfb21fc.jpg

In the gift shop, you can build your own LEGO fish.

    89.thumb.jpg.1a66d9c1b6b7453bdb7047d016991b88.jpg

There were several stations where you could build a fish....

    90.thumb.jpg.c15d1cf096bf054978fe951b3009af6a.jpg

....and then the fish appears on the screen and swims around for awhile. You can even tap in certain areas to "feed" the fish. This was truly a great addition to the park!

    100.thumb.jpg.987dec012bb2c84e7ab1b2ed35c46132.jpg

After seeing all the fish, Griffin found his inner Fisherman.

The Duplo Playtown moved to the top of the hill to make way for the new LEGO Movie World near HeartLake City. My boys were just happy that the train made the move!

    102.thumb.jpg.9ba7983f3fc5754ad786715a60b98b00.jpg

Spooky theming still haunts the park.

    103.thumb.jpg.33bda4d6c4182252b98ea02327f614b0.jpg

When you need time to relax...just go play some LEGO Video Games. It was quite hilarious watching them play these games at a theme park that we have at home.

    104.thumb.jpg.cc71dfbf3b263dda0f35ca3318c9c9bd.jpg

Time for my boy's favorite land...Ninjago! Griffin loves all the characters. Here he is with Jay (his favorite character) and the dragon.

    105.thumb.jpg.15e4f1844642f53374d5ef5cf122cf71.jpg

Even if they were just LEGO figures, he still had to do his pose. Here he is with his 2nd favorite character, Lloyd!

And then Jay. So many characters in this small land.

    Time for Kai's Spinners.

    91.thumb.jpg.462ca824bbf95cfb7804ce5267a9ef2b.jpg

The great part about when we went to the park, was that there were hardly any crowds. So for a lot of the rides, the boys didn't know what they were going to do because no one was riding them.

    92.thumb.jpg.50bf71bccd119571b32d4d2bfc9c74de.jpg

But once they found out, they always had an AWESOME time!

    93.thumb.jpg.595708aec1a73538c1ba66a9470b3304.jpg

    Time for some slides

    94.thumb.jpg.1adac0c59da602c2d8a644ca6e6b24fe.jpg

And it's not a LEGO ride without some LEGO theming.

    95.thumb.jpg.0c8ee5136416e83fc35f6d97b3d544bd.jpg

Jackson won every time because he would always go on 2 instead of 3 when the ride op would count down.

Now, it's time for my favorite ride at the park...Ninjago The Ride.

If you had to wait in line (which we didn't) it had a lot of things to keep you busy.

Movies played throughout the queue line

Here's the ride vehicles. I'm not a nerd so I have no idea who designed this ride but I love it. It is so simple and once you figured out the controls, it was a lot of fun. Your arm gets so sore after going on this ride a lot but it is AWESOME!

Part III - The Castle Hotel will be up shortly!

  21. Legoland California. This is a park that I will always enjoy. Not only is it 10 minutes from where I grew up (and still 10 minutes from my dad's house) but I am a huge LEGO fan and thankfully my boys are as well. We decided to stay on property this time and I will tell you now, that it is totally worth it.

This report will be broken into 3 parts...

    Legoland Part I

    Legoland Part II

    Castle Hotel

    Legoland Part I -

We surprised our boys with a visit during our Fall Break this year. They had no idea we were going here and they were totally excited. My oldest, Jackson, remembers visiting 3 years ago and remembered some rides. My youngest, Griffin, wasn't tall enough to ride pretty much anything last time (which is silly for a family park) so this time we made sure he was tall enough to ride a majority of the rides.

My youngest finally rode his first roller coaster (and then his second) and he is a huge fan of them. He now wants to ride every roller coaster in the world (but still needs to grow before that can be accomplished.) My oldest still isn't too sure about them, but thankfully Legoland is not all about coasters, its about just having a fun time with your family...as long as the kids are tall enough to ride some rides.

The only thing that is a bummer about Legoland is that they still do have height restrictions on some of the rides. It didn't bother us this time at all, but I kept hearing families being disappointed that their kids couldn't rides some rides because they weren't tall enough. Here's an idea, look at the website and height restrictions on the rides before you come to the park. Crazy, I know!

Anyway, on to the first Part as the pictures will explain our glorious and AWESOME adventure through Legoland!

Legoland California was celebrating it's 20th birthday this year. I remember the year it opened since it's only 10 minutes from where I grew up. It was a huge deal to have this park in Carlsbad and I glad it has turned into a great family destination!

LEGO Jake opens the park every day.

First up, Coastersaurus. This was Griffin's very first roller coaster and he loved it. The ride-op gave both my boys "1st Coaster" pins. That was a nice touch.

    05.thumb.jpg.f0dddef98488082676b45a6a810ce771.jpg

Someone is excited for his first roller coaster while the other is a little scared.

This truly is such a great ride for kids to ease them into the roller coaster riding experience. Little amount of thrills but still a great family ride.

Jackson finally started to enjoy it and put his hands in the air!

Outside the coaster, Griffin decided to hatch from the egg and then play as a dinosaur while we rode Coastersaurus several times.

Safari Trek time! Griffin literally thought he was driving the car the whole time....until a ride he rode later.....

Time to head to Fun Town to check out their rides and decorations. This is one of the original lands from when the park opened and a lot has changed from 20 years ago.

    First up, Driving school.

But at least they can still drive a Limo and pick up celebrities!

Fire and Rescue! This is such a great family attraction that every can enjoy (as long as you still meet the height requirement)

    Put out the FIRE!!!

When we visited Legoland 3 years ago, this was Jackson's favorite attraction. You go inside and you have to search for a key in several different rooms. Last time we visited, we probably did this about 10 times. Thankfully, he a little older now and we only had to suffer through it one time.

Amazing views out on the open sea today!

    32.thumb.jpg.f0eb4447d55810615a96249ea8613048.jpg

Only downside is that this ride takes forever and there is no shade along the water. It wasn't hot when we went (well, not hot for people from Arizona) but i can see how this ride might be a bit hot for some other people.

The boys loved Splash Battle. We had to get EVERYTHING wet...

....including people taking our picture! HA!

Now, time for a stroll along Mini Land. New Orleans has turned into Boo Orleans!

the Las Vegas section is still my favorite section (yes, above the Star Wars Section) because i just love the architecture in Vegas and the LEGOs capture it very well.

The first hotel my family stayed in when we visited Vegas the first time. And yes, we visited when there was still an amusement park there and it was amazing!

I love that the rides at the top of the Stratosphere move. And i love that it's still the Stratosphere and not whatever name they are calling it now in the real Las Vegas

The Death Star is so massive in person! "It's no moon...it's a space station!! WooHoo!!" (person who names that movie gets a cookie)

Disneyland secretly used this model for Batuu and the Smuggler's Run attraction!

My boys haven't seen any of the Star Wars movies, but they know all the characters thanks to the LEGO Star Wars video games and cartoons.

    47.thumb.jpg.d22e0f18366a8e4adce4005ea985c3ca.jpg

These set pieces are still as impressive as when they first opened this area of Mini Land

    More of New York's Skyline.

    Part II coming soon!

  22. Looks like an awesome coaster. I have never made it to Kennywood but if I ever find myself in that part of the country, i will definitely be checking this park out. Even though I'm not a Steelers fan, that will not stop me from riding this awesome looking ride. I think people that say "I'm not going to ride it because I hate the Steelers" really need to grow up. And if you hate them that much, then maybe you shouldn't belong in that city in the first place.

I'm curious, how are the trains restraints? Are they comfortable? These look like new S&S trains and restraints so I'm wondering how comfortable they are.

  23. I'm excited to see this coaster once it opens. My wife and I will be in Orlando in September so we may have to swing by IOA to ride this thing. Funny thing is, I showed my wife a picture of Elissa in the side car on the ride at Australia and asked her if she remembered that ride when we went on the TPR Australia tour. She said "We didn't ride that ride. I would have remembered riding it." Then I showed her some pictures from the TPR Index Page and you can see us riding it!! I guess it was such a great experience, she blocked it from her memory.
