  1. Yes that's right. None of the rides are open yet. Only the shops and restaurants are as well as the streetmosphere stuff. Basically the purpose of this is for Singaporeans to have a sneak peak during the festive period as well as test out the non ride stuff. They are basically cycling the rides as people walk around so we can see them in action. The official opening would be sometime in March with everything operational (except Madagascar Crate Adventure which would be operational in April).
  2. Just got back from the previews. Here are my thoughts on the park as far as theming as well as F&B/shopping goes as the rides are non operational yet and there are some glitches seen. First off, this is a GREAT park. Having been to USJ and USH, I must say the theming at times is even superior to Japan (of course perhaps this is my home park and thus a bit biased). There are areas where the theming is as good as the gold standard parks (TDS, DLP et al). However as been stated in other boards, as the park acreage is smaller than USJ/USO, the theming does appear squashed together (BSG is looming over everything, you can see it in all zones of the park). Also some of the backstage areas are not that well disguised. Other than that it is outstanding. Hollywood area Similar to Japan there is a canopy over the main thoroughfare. It is thoughtful as Singapore weather can be sweltering hot and this gives visitors extra shade. Area is quite compact akin to Main street. It ends in a cul de sac at the edge of the lagoon with a fountain and continues to the right with the Pantages Theater and Mel's Drive-In. Theming is standard as compared to the rest of the parks. New York This is where I think it shines. THe street sets also have a canopy albeit a different one. The impressive part is the side street where one believes one is really in New York. There are sound gags throughout (dog barking, phone ringing that I dun remember from USJ). Most buildings are represented (no Chrysler or Empire) but facades of the Rockefella and the Met is there. Also the smoking manholes and the subway exits are there too. Sci Fi City This is dominated by the BSG dueling coasters (world's first heterogenous, launched dueling coasters). Theming is OK with the green lights but feel that it is rather exposed. The coasters fly over a nice lagoon though. FOr some reason the Human (sit down side) kept stalling on the launch. Ancient Egypt The best themed area IMHO. There are statues of Annubis everywhere and the facade of Mummy is great. A small autopia like ride winds through the area with sight gags as well as a very well themed counter sevice place (think Casbah Food Court in TDS but with Egyptian theming). Liked the broken pillars and the Obelisk in the main intersection. Lost World It is split into 2 sections: Jurassic Park and Waterworld. Th JP area is quite standard with the JP visitor center building (a food court) and the JP Rapids RIde (noted the dual drop on the rapids ride). The smallish area also has Canopy Flyers (Pterandon Flyers in IOA) and a spinner as well as a rock climbing wall. The Waterworld area is also standard. Just like the kinetics of the area with the splashing boats, the spinner (with Carribean style JP soundtrack) and the ride vehicles zomming above. Far far away Quite well done. Looks like well Fantasyland with its castle (housing Shrek 4D) and main street like area (Romeo Drive from Shrek 2). Otherwise theming is excellent as well. The queue area for the junior coaster (Enchanted Airways) look like that for a Fantasyland dark ride. Outside the main area is SHrek's tree stump basically a meet and greet area which doubles up as the coaster shed. Madagascar Not that great but good. THis huge ship looms over everything (part of the facade for the boat ride Madagascar Crate Adventure). There's the huge Balboa tree as well as a cute carousel with Madagascar characters. But theming is better than Sci Fi City. The trash cans are Disney like in quality - themed to the zone it belongs. Food had large variety. As this is a sneak preview, there were some duds (half cooked chicken which was fedback). It is overall an excellent experience. Will definitely return and very proud to call USS my home park.
  3. Will be going for the sneak previews on Feb 16. Only the shops and restaurants will be open then. The park will be fully functional only in March. Pictures to come ...
