  1. That was the only time I was actually ejected from the park, although I had a few close calls after that in 2008, (big higher up security guy named Basta) Oct 9, 2009 (Jason McClure GM) and Oct 2014 (some older security guy). I'm not going to say what the incidents were. They were just warnings. What happened to chief Dan Hall? Did he leave the park? He had a segment on All Worked Up and he kicked a guy out for two years for joyriding on the swan boats. I met him a few times in the park, nothing wrong, just happened to see him walking. Yeah, it was an unfortunate incident near Death Trap entrance and Thunderhawk exit that I met previous GM Jason McClure. He had a yellow Haunt coat on and he was on a cell phone, so I sat on a bench and waited. He got off the phone and walked up to me. He just warned me for something, but nothing else happened. I guess by the weird pictures you just posted you were a bit freaked out by my last post. I'm sorry, but it was a true story. It actually happened. You don't want to mess with DPP security. I guess their job is to keep the park safe so they have to get rid of anyone who would be a potential threat for whatever reason or disorderly conduct. What would happen if you tried to run from security if you knew they were after you or tried to leave the park and run away? Would they call the SWT police or just leave it go?
  2. Mariners Munchies, then you worked at the park when I got the big bad boot. It was Tuesday, August, 15, 2000 and the park was busy, my brother and I went to the waterpark, I was 26 at the time. I went on Wildwater River and behind me s far back in line was this cute girl with glasses and pigtails, when on the ride I held my innertube back by holding on to the wall, and the girl showed up. I said to her "you're pretty" and something else and then continued on the ride. But then, lifeguards were telling me to keep moving for some reason and when the ride was over we headed to Thunder Canyon and went on that, then returned to WWK to get a cold snack at the snack bar across from where Riptide Run was, and I noticed the family of the girl over toward the exit of Riptide Run with a DPP security officer. The officer started walking toward me. I thought "uh oh". The officer asked for my name and asked us to come with him. He waited while we changed into dry clothes, they escorted us to the upper security office. We waited in a room, then the officer had to call my mom to get us, and made us sign a form saying our passes are revoked for the season and a trespass order saying we are banned from the property for the rest of the season. My mom wasn't too happy, she took her man friend's (who lived with us since 1994) mom to a doctor appointment and had to leave to get us. She didn't let us go at all in 2001, except one time in late September. The officers escorted us to the gate and we had to leave.
  3. Wait, so the parking lot is full especially on weekends (in the past late August was the worst time to go with tons of families cramming in their last minute vacations, trips, etc. before the kids go back to school, mostly the people from out of the area who wouldn't travel to DP in Sept. or October) but the coasters are empty? What are all those tons of people riding? Do most go to the water park during the day? Also, the inner city crowd seems to disappear after Labor Day, the Haunt is mostly locals but it can get busy if the weather isn't bad. Rain and cold will keep people away.
  4. Dorney Park just announced their new haunt mazes! Blood on the Bayou (replaces Desolation) and The Ward (replaces Asylum). Also, there is a new show, The Awakening: Power Struggle located at White Water Landing Stage and Cut Throat Island is now on Possessed Midway. Everything else is the same as last year but Mansion House Hotel is supposed to have renovations. I would have liked to seen Asylum completely gutted and turned into a new theme, Ward sounds like a mental hospital theme based on the short description and a ward is a unit of a hospital dedicated for a specific purpose, like a maternity ward. Well, they are probably keeping the facade since they painted it so the theme will be similar.
  5. Is that by Possessed? Good spot for Cut Throat Island. Since they got rid of Head Hunters, that spot has been empty during Haunt. Trick or Treat and now Cut Throat Island bring more haunt attractions to the lower part of the park balancing out and spreading out the attractions. So, what's going in now this year by Cedar Creek Cannonball and Wave Swinger? Nothing? CarnEVIL is over by Hydra midway.
  6. And why would someone want to steal a stuffed dog? It seems that the people from New York always get into trouble at DP. Several years ago two guys from NY pinched girls butts at DP and got arrested. I saw it in the paper in the police section. Crazy stuff happens at DP. I saw a post from a SWT cop several years ago on facebook or twitter and it said something like glad that I don't have to deal with this dp crap or something referring to he was glad that winter was coming and DP was closed for the season. They probably get a lot of calls during the summer and DP now pays for a SWT officer to patrol the park in addition to their patrol.
  7. The only people who will benefit from Parkside Pavilion are large groups who reserve in advance. The single visitors and the rest of the general public will not be able to use it. To me, it's a waste of space but DP knows what they are doing. I would have rather seen that land go toward a new ride or a new Haunt building in the future. The two new rides especially Dodgem will be a great addition. Also, this fall we are getting two new Haunt attractions replacing two existing ones and a remodeled Mansion House Hotel.
  8. Dorney used to have dark rides but they were all removed. Bucket O' Blood burned down Sept. 28, 1983, Musik Express went in its spot in 1984, Journey to the Center of the Earth was razed after 1992, and Meteorite PTC cuddle up formerly Iceberg until 1989 was removed after 1993 for Patio Pizza which is now the barbecue smokehouse. It would be nice for Dorney to get a new dark ride that operates in the spring and summer. Such as a Boo Blasters on Boo Hill like the two Kings parks have, or it could be one of those Triotech rides they're talking about. It seems Cedar Fair has gone in a different direction since Matt Ouimet took over as CEO. Cedar Fair is now willing to have themed indoor rides in its parks. Of course, Kings Island, Kings Dominion, Carowinds, Canada's Wonderland, the former Paramount Parks have had newer dark rides for a while now, Flight of Fear indoor coasters, and Boo Blasters rides. Kings Dominion had a ride called Haunted River it was like Journey to the Center of the Earth and it had a lift and drop at the end, it was closed in 1995 though with Smurf Mountain for Volcano the Blast Coaster which opened 1998 in the old mountain. Kings Dominion in the 90's under Paramount was like Dorney Park under Cedar Fair. They removed/closed dark rides, and some other rides probably in the name of safety or some other reason. Cedar Point had an old dark ride from Freedomland in Bronx, NY called Pirate Ride that they got in the 60's but it closed after 1996 for some reason. It was an old electric rail ride with different rooms and scenes like Bucket O' Blood. The cars were shaped like boats. It was replaced with an arcade on the loading platform in 1997, with the interior used for storage. Now, it is used for a Boo Hill walk-through attraction for Halloweekends. Yeah, CP still has a Boo Hill and Halloweekends name long after Dorney got rid of theirs. DP got the Haunt name in 2008, and retired Boo/Kill Hill for Mansion House Hotel for 2010. I'm looking forward to the 2017 announcements tomorrow and the names of the two new indoor haunt mazes replacing Desolation and Asylum. I know Desolation is going to be a Blood on the Bayou.
  9. What is the difference between the Voodoo and Blood on the Bayou haunt mazes? They seem similar.
  10. So Blood on the Bayou is on the level of a Mansion House Hotel or Trick or Treat? Very detailed rooms? I wonder though if it will be bigger than the building and extend out the back like Desolation was, or just the building like Club Blood was? They could build an outdoor "swamp" area behind the building under White Water Landing. Could they add on to the building in the back to make the indoor part bigger? Looks like both entrance and exit will be on the same side this time, like when it was Club Blood. What about Asylum and Mansion House Hotel, are they having major changes done? Asylum is becoming something else?
  11. Ok, I figured out what one of them is going to be! Look at this, the hearse is out with this year's attractions on the back. www.pictaram.com/tag/DpHaunt Two of the attractions are blacked out with a red question mark, one of them is the former Desolation and the other is the former Asylum. Look at the outline of the top mystery logo and compare it with this It matches! The new maze where Desolation (and Club Blood before that) was is going to be a Blood on the Bayou! Well, the word Blood is returning, remember Blood Shed that got combined with Cornstalkers last year? Now, to figure out what Asylum is going to be called.
  12. I don't know how it is at other waterparks, but Dorney's is small and just doesn't have the capacity to handle the large volume of guests that go to the park on hot summer days. It gets way too crowded. I hardly go to the WWK side anymore. I don't know what world you've been living in, but Dorney does get busy, even on the ride side at times. Last Sunday we drove past the park and both paved parking lots were full. For being a smaller park they sure do get the crowds. It's probably not as bad on the weekdays. Sometimes May weekends are busy with school music groups, and some Haunt weekends are busy as well. I would say the least busy times are Early June, early September, some weekdays in summer. So Valleyfair's waterpark doesn't get as busy as Dorney's, jd? You can't stand the crowds at WWK either? Why is it some days the park is using overflow parking but other days only half of the main lot is full? I would guess that most parents have off from work on the weekends, so more people from out of the area can go to the park on weekends, making it busier. I don't think there's one weekend in July and August that's not busy, unless there's thunderstorms or heavy rain and people leave. Dorney might be investing in the park next year. Sounds like they might be getting new rides next year. Plus there's the Haunt improvements this fall.
  13. I feel the same way about Wildwood, NJ. Give me back Hunt's Pier, Fun Pier and Castle Dracula. Now Morey's runs almost everything and it's mostly off the shelf rides. Although they do have the Ghost Ship, a custom built haunted walkthrough built in 2010. Castle Dracula at the former Nickels Midway Pier burned Jan 16, 2002, was built 1977. And Dante's Dungeon (formerly Inferno) and Pirate's of Wildwood (formerly Dark River added 1992). The former Hunt's Pier/Dinosaur Beach is now go-karts, Morey's maintenance shop, storage, tram car storage, mirror maze, etc. But back in the 60's, 70's and 80's it was a nice amusement pier with themed rides. The Golden Nugget Mine Ride was rebuilt at Knoebels a few years ago as Black Diamond. After Dino Beach closed, the Nugget sat closed from 1999-2009. It was also closed in 1992 and 1995. The Nugget building on the pier was razed Feb 2009 and props saved by Morey's and the Wildwood historical society but track and cars went to Knoebels. Knoebels does a good job saving historical rides. They have one of the best haunted house rides, other good haunted rides are at Rehoboth Beach, DE and Ocean City, MD. The Haunted House and Pirate's Cove in Ocean City, MD were built by the late Bill Tracy who also did work on Dorney's former dark rides and on Fun and Hunt's Pier in Wildwood, NJ on dark attractions in the 60's. He passed away August, 1974. He was also responsible for the Alfundo head that used to be at the old Dorney entrance on top of the old coaster building.
  14. No, that carousel burned down in the Sept. 28, 1983 fire that burned the Bucket O' Blood. Disco Dodge was electric powered bumper cars with a pole. Krazy Kars 1992 and up was the hovercraft gas powered ones. Dorney's current antique carousel came from Cedar Point in 1995.
  15. Bucket O' Blood was a spooky dark ride. It had different names over the years since the 30's, and was Bucket O' Blood from 1974-1983. It had a pirate theme. It burned in a freak fire on Sept. 28, 1983 that also took out the park's Le Grande Carrousel which was located about where Dominator is now. I have some good pics of it that I saved from ebay auctions of old Dorney photos. There's also an article at laff in the dark website about the past dark rides of Dorney Park with photos. I rode it several times before the fire. Bucket O' Blood was located about where the Musik Express is, which has been at the park since 1984. It was similar to Cedar Point's Pirate Ride, which closed after 1996. This guy has the surviving cars from the Bucket O' Blood! http://www.sinistershadows.com/blog/?tag=pretzel-ride He's somewhere in PA, York, I think. Someone in Fleetwood, PA auctioned off a Bucket O' Blood car several years ago, and I think that guy bought it. They were different colors from blue to red, some were like the cars at Knoebel's Haunted House, the blue ones had pirate scenes on them. After going through two sets of double doors, you went through a spinning tunnel like this then a large room with pirate scenes, then a hallway with glowing rib cage bones I believe, like this and a few other scenes then the exit. I forget what some of the scenes were. In 1982 or 1983 a loud horn was added before the exit doors and scared the crap out of me. Here are some pics showing the Bucket O' Blood and http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_cVF2LlOx6Zc/Sk6yGDRWZBI/AAAAAAAAJPc/qXhUMe4Ohls/s1600-h/WalkingTour2.jpg Some after fire pics from late Sept. 1983 http://mcall.imagefortress.com/search/index?adv%5Bquery%5D=%40folder_extended_description+%22Dorney+Park+%7C+South+Whitehall%2C+%7C+9%2F27%2F1987+%7C+See+Also%3A+Fires+%7C+Dorney+Park+%7C+South+Whiteheall%2C+%7C+11%2F28%2F1989%22 Anyone remember when parking was 50 cents in 1982 and 1983? Then, in 1985 it was $1.00, in 1990 $1.50, that was back when you went through the white parking tower at the lower entrance, and upper parking was where Talon is now, now parking is $20.00! What happened? Why did parking prices rise THAT much over 34 years? Parking just rose by $5 this year. Bob Ott and Harris Weinstein who ran the park from 1967-1984, and 1985-1992 both passed away, Ott March 2007 a month after his wife in Allentown area, they lived at Luther Crest behind Kmart on Tilghman St. for several years, their son Bob is living in Florida, and Weinstein late October, 2014 in Florida, with a memorial service at Good Time Theatre at the park. Manager Craig Cope is in Florida, and PR Michael Crowther in Indianaoplis, he took a job at the zoo, and Weinstein's wife Debora, Stephen Plarr's daughter, Stephen was Robert Plarr's son and Bob F. Ott's wife's Sally (Sarah)'s brother. Bob Plarr and Steve Plarr both passed in the late 60's, and Ott took over. And about bumper cars, two major parks in the northeast that probably attract the most people currently have no bumper cars. Dorney Park and Six Flags Great Adventure. SFGA's were closed several years ago, building used for storage of ride parts and the bumper cars, and Dorney's were torn down with the coaster building after 1994, and Krazy Kars, (formerly Disco Dodge before 1992) were razed for Demon Drop. DP used to have two bumper car rides from the 70's through 1994, then only Krazy Kars was left. KK were gasoline powered round karts, and Disco Dodge were electric powered bumper cars like the Skooters in the coaster building. Skooters went around in an oval, but Disco Dodge/Krazy Kars were freeform bumper cars in a circular building. Rides like dark rides, antique car rides, sky rides/cable car rides, log flumes, steam trains, are among the types of rides parks are likely to remove because of the high costs of operation and maintenance, and sometimes low popularity and capacity issues. And age.
