I've stayed here before and used the shuttle but one thing you need to do is make very sure of the schedule ahead of time. When we stayed there, it was mid June and the shuttle service stopped well ahead of park closing time.

Hey! My wife and I are heading over for our first visit from May 17-21 (Friday to Tuesday) so which day would be the best day to visit with lower crowds? Also any advice for our day? Anything helps, thanks!

Is the park open after sunset any of those days? Yes you may have higher crowds, but the park's coasters are incredible at night.

  • 2 weeks later...

Went to SDC yesterday for my annual Bluegrass and BBQ visit. Thought I would share some more photos and a video of Time Traveler in Operation along with the revamped Echo Hollow area. Enjoy!

And regarding the former Lost River area its being speculated the new water ride will either be called Lost Caverns or Mystic River Falls due to recent trademark filings.

Hey everyone, I will be making multiple visits to the park next week and I just have 3 questions:

-Where is the best place to purchase cinnamon bread/how much should I expect to pay per serving?

-Chance of Thunder next week, I noticed that the cave tour is affected by lightning in the area. How does this work? If they think it could happen, do they cancel the tours? If there's a group down there, do they cut the tour short up an emergency exit? How is the situation handled?

-One of the visits will be on this Sunday--which has a 10 pm close. I know Outlaw Run will have amazing night rides, but what else has a great night ride? The park should be dark enough for them, right?

-Sullivan's Mill for the cinnamon bread, but if you have room don't neglect the pastries at Eva & Delilah's, they're excellent as well. I dont recall pricing, sorry.

-YMMV but in my personal experience they have been more likely to stop tours ahead of time if there's a good chance of inclement weather. They are pretty upfront about if they have to cancel a tour midway through, you walk back the way you came. I've never had to do it and goodness I would never want to.

-It'll be plenty dark past 8:30 or so, so you're in for a treat. Wildfire is great at night too since it's on a hillside. Great views of the countryside with houselights dotted here and there, and it's facing away from the strip so it's not an overwhelming smear of light, it's really nice and the slower lift hill compared to Outlaw (and Powder Keg which also overlooks that hillside) gives you time to take it in.

Original cinnamon bread is $6.99, other flavours are $7.99.

I've never been evacuated from the cave, but no there are no emergency exits. There's the incline railway at the end or there's walking back to the entrance, that's it.

Otherwise, Chiselphane has it covered above.

Hey, question for those that know more than myself: there's a good chunk of unused queue in the space between Wildfire and the Log Flume. Was this extended queue for something, or was it for some previous attraction, or some other purpose?

I believe it's Wildfire's overflow queue, although I'm not sure how long it's been since it's been used, if it ever has.

Oh it was used in 2001 for sure. I remember waiting in a line that started by the Wildfire sign down by the lumber camp, then went through all those switchbacks to the right of the main path, went under American Plunge, used all the queue to the right of the main path after the Plunge, and finally entered the queue building. The bubble thing still worked, and the queue used the second floor above the gift shop. Everybody wanted to ride SDC's only looping coaster.

The indoor queue can handle a line of over an hour, which for SDC is stupid long, so I've rarely seen it go out of the building at all. Even on those rare occasions, and it takes something like a 70 degree day during Christmas to do it, the line just curves around the side of the regular path and they still don't open the overflow queue. I doubt they'll ever use it again, but I'm not sure what else that space could be used for, so might as well leave it.

I was shocked to see them using the second floor of the Wildfire queue last time we were at the park. The line was out of the building, so we just though (like usual) they just hadn’t opened up all of the lower switch backs. Needless to say when we got in the building and saw it going up the stairs, and coming back down... we bailed. We love Wildfire... but not waiting that long for it!

Wowsers. I thought that's what it was for, but holy sh!t, that must have been a long line. I'm glad most of my rides this week on it were walk-ons.

They could plant trees.
