Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

p. 2030 - Top Thrill 2 announced!

Recommended Posts

Like it’s been said before, if you’re traveling to Cedar Point do not hesitate to get the fast lane plus. Yes, it hurts at first to spend over $90 per ticket but once in the park it’s like being in a dream. You literally have the entire park to yourself including steel Vengence. It will make your trip amazing. There was probably 10+ times me and my girlfriend were walking thru the fastlane thinking “imagine standing in that line” and then literally walking on maverick and valravyn and TTD. Amazing

Definitely agree. Some people view Fast Lane as unnecessary and a waste of money, but it actually makes a lot of sense if you're traveling from far away. Most of the time, Fast Lane Plus actually costs less than a 1 night hotel & ticket to the park. Therefore two days at the park, one with fast lane plus, and two nights at a hotel can actually cost less than three days at the park and 3 nights at a hotel. This is only true if you a) live far from the park and b) don't have a season pass, so obviously I can't justify getting a Flash pass at my home park (Great America), but at other parks it makes a ton of sense. You spend more on the fast pass, less on hotels and tickets.

I kinda wish they take Gatekeeper off FL+ and figure out a way to merge Millennium Force's line straight into the station and put that on FL+ instead.

At one point in time you entered at the front of the station. That's how it was when I used it back in 2012. They had one employee right there and another at the turnstile at the back of the station. They would let in maybe 10 or so Fast Lane users and then the person in the back would let in about 25 or so from the regular line.

Honestly when I used it last week it was only useful for Steel Vengeance, Valravn, TTD, and Maverick. Every other ride was either a walk on, or in Millennium Force's case the line wasn't all the way down the station ramp. It was well worth it for those four rides though. Steel Vengeance was 15-20 minutes all day for FL+ while the regular line was 1.5 hours or more and the other three were essentially walk ons with FL+.

At the park today. Going to see how many rides I can get on SV without fast lane, and only taking breaks for the bathroom and my 2 meals.

The days we're gonna be at the park the temperature will be in the 90s - a little concerned they're going to ramp up the MCBR, hopefully I'm wrong.

on my 7 rides only 2 were grabbed by the MCBR. I was kind of glad because we were going stupid fast into the MCBR to the point that last little hop up onto the flat of it almost hurt and I am someone who loves intense coasters.

So far it hasn’t slowed any train down today

But the MCBR grabs hard enough that you can make a pit stop and get back to the train before it goes into the 2nd half of the ride so you won't need to let us know about the bathroom breaks.

My past visit on Wednesday (mini photo TR for that, and Coastermania, still pending) was really the only time I thought the MCBR grab was noticeable of the 11 times I've ridden SV. And it didn't affect the second half, other than the drop off of the MCBR at all.

So I got 7 rides on SV yesterday. It seemed like the line was a steady hour and a half all day. A lot of waiting which wasn’t fun but on the plus side I Asked for the back row every time and got it.

I was at CP earlier this week and just finally got a chance to do a little trip report. Well, SV lives up to hype. I was a little wary with praise being heaped on it in the bucket loads and people saying it is their new #1 but I have now joined that tribe after riding it. It is relentless. No let up . It also provides new elements wrapped up in sweet smoothness. The second half of the run is just as good as the first half. Plenty of air time with a great first hill. Got a FP+ on Monday when it was 71 degrees and overcast. Then got a dozen rides on SV alone because the overcast sky's kept some of the crowds away. Only once did we wait more than 15 minutes for SV using FP+.

Just a few notes from the trip:

- For me, SV is a back row or train coaster. Liked the front. LOVED the back. Not a bad seat though anywhere on this beast.

- SV's crew ran a tight ship, great operations. Solid operations throughout the park for everything else I rode except Gatekeeper.

- I really liked the way they restored the lights in the Maverick's tunnel.

- Saw a Maverick roll back during ERT. We were locked and loaded in the first car still in the loading station when the train ahead of us shot up the ramp, stopped at the top, paused and then proceeded to slowly glide back to the original launch position. They tried to trouble shoot for about 3-4 minutes then thankfully made the call right away to let us out so we could get to other rides. The group out on the track unfortunately had to wait to be unlocked and escorted off. Don't know how long that took.

- On Thursday morning we entered at the first Boardwalk entrance and not the Waterpark like the day before and got real lucky. They only had one person there at the entrance after you get past security and he must have been new and not known the drill for early entry. He checked the 15-20 people there to make sure they had either early entry passes or platinum passes which was odd because they already did that before we go into the holding zone. But then he proceeded to let us enter 10 minutes BEFORE the national anthem played instead of after. We got down to a little past the waterpark entrance until we stopped for the national anthem. After that we kept going to SV and got a ride in before 9:24 am (bonus, in the back row). Then went to Maverick for a 1 train wait followed by 2 MF rides with less than 10 minutes waits a piece. We got those four done by 10:00 am. What an ERT hour.

- SV is really keeping the ERT lines much shorter than usual for Maverick and MF.

- A huge THANK YOU to all of those who in this forum said to ride Cedar Downs. Thanks for getting through to my coaster/thrill ride thick skull to take the time to ride this. This was my fourth visit to CP and I had seen this ride, it looked unique but never had the desire to ride it. But since so many recommended it on this forum we gave it a shot. What a fun little ditty of a ride. A hidden gem. Made everyone smile while riding it. They just don't make them like this anymore. It is now a must do for me once every visit now.

you are welcome! it's great, innit?

I absolutely love this ride, but the thing was even MORE fun, after an evening of Brews & BBQ (if you know what I mean)

I don't think those breakdowns last too long. Towards the end of ERT at Coastermania, we were near the bathroom by Skyhawk when we saw one happen. It couldn't have been more than 15 minutes later that we were seated on the train awaiting our ride.

This is probably the most out of the blue thing to be posted on this thread right now considering the many things that are likely much more important but for the past couple years - especially with the upgrade of the on-peninsula water park, I’ve been seriously wondering when Cedar Point will upgrade Castaway Bay - both the hotel and the water park itself. Breakers Express was just updated and renovated this past year and became the Cedar Point Express, Breakers has been renovated and expanded several times in the past 4 years, Sandcastle Suites is gone, and now it seems the only Cedar Point hotel to not get much of any attention is their Castaway Bay (sort of) year-round resort hotel and indoor water park. Since opening in 2004, it has seen one small renovation in 2011 adding new TVs into the fitness rooms, new carpeting and water park WiFi. Plus I’m sure they make other small tweaks every now and again - like the addition of the roller coaster prints in the rooms. It’s unfortunate but since visiting the resort at least once a year since 2013, it seems to be sitting in limbo, really aging, and not aging well. It would be nice to see some sort of additions or renovations to the water park itself considering near by parks of the same nature are updated more often, and it would be nice to have something else to do whilst there. It’s a great park for a brief stay as it currently stands, which is totally fine with the world class water park and theme park down the street, but when those are closed, I feel like CB needs something to keep it up to par with the nearby attractions of similar nature

/ end of totally unexpected Castaway Bay rant

I actually went to Castaway Bay earlier this year, after going many years ago and thinking it was great, and came away VERY underwhelmed this time around. It's been so far surpassed by Kalahari just down the road, that it's like it's getting lapped! I would think CP would invest more into it, unless they consider it too much of an investment to legitimately compete with Kalahari. In which case, they will likely just keep it as a "perk" hotel, rather than a destination hotel. There's just so much competition in that area (indoor waterpark), they may just deem it best not to invest too heavily there.

Next month will be my first visit to CP and I’m staying in Breakers hotel for 4 nights and I bought tickets for the park + Fast Lane Plus in the hotel package. My question is how is the process of getting the actual tickets and Fast Lane Plus wristbands?

Do you go to the hotel front desk in the morning to receive your ticket and FLP wristband? Do you have to do this every morning? Is there usually a line for this?

I have no idea of how this process is going to be and I would appreciate it a lot if someone could explain it. Thanks!

Don't know about the FLP wristband, but my group had the 2 day pass and they gave me my tickets at the Breakers Front Desk. This was before our room was ready. I believe somewhere in the wording it said we could pick up our tickets as early as 8am, but we showed up at Noon. We left our bags in the lobby with the very friendly lobby gentlemen, then left for the park. When we came back they all took good care of us, took our bags up, answered other questions, they will take very good care of you. You may have to get the FLP in the park, the Front Desk will let you know.

The 4 of us had 1 ticket for 2 days. I imagine they will give you 1 ticket for all 4 days, it'll say on the ticket "4 day pass." If there are any lines you run into, and they aren't for food, all of them are pretty manageable and decent at Cedar Point.

I have no idea of how this process is going to be and I would appreciate it a lot if someone could explain it. Thanks!

I'll be honest with yah, 4 days is a while to be there, so I wouldn't worry about rushing, you'll have plenty of time to do plenty of things plenty of times. And if you have any questions or issues, all you have to do is go to the front desk in the lobby at Breakers and they pretty much will tell you right then and there what you're gonna need to do and where you're gonna need to go, and they'll point it out on the park map, and answer any questions you may have with more certainty and day-to-day accuracy than you'll get on here.

Our stay was really effortless and fun and there weren't any stupid nuances, besides not being able to walk around with 2 beers lol.

^ This. We spent 4 days at the Breakers and I can testify, the front desk people make it very easy on one. 4 days may seem like a long time but makes for an ideal vacay. Plenty of time to do the waterpark and take time to do things you might not have considered with a shorter time constraint. The only thing I would recommend is that you keep your 4 day pass in a waterproof baggie or something. 4 days is a long time to hold onto your receipt for admissions.

Thank you both! I will be there “only” for 3 full days because we are arriving late at night on the first night. I so think that it should be enough time for everything with FLP though. I will not be going to the waterpark.

Sounds like staff at Breakers is awesome so I’m sure it will be great.
