Loefet
So with the massive Wildfire project being teased about in another topic here on TPR: Click It was really clear that almost no one on here have ever heard of the place before, so I decided to dig up some images from when me and my brother visited the place on our way back from Stockholm, after crashing the last TPR Scandi trip in 2009 for a few days. During all my childhood, we have driven past the place several times a year, but this was actually my first visit to the place. The park is a massive thing, we mainly stopped by to do a credit run, but since the place is so massive it took us over 1.5 hours to enter the park, ride the coaster and then head back out again. And no we didn't really stop to admire the animals, most of the images are taken on the go So it's basically a giant Zoo that is nestled in a massive forest, it caters to family's, with younger children, and it's located almost 2 hours south west from Stockholm, pretty near the Skavsta airport (where you end up if you fly to Stockholm with Ryanair). So it's very likely that there have been massive changes since, but this will give you a taste of Kolmården!! Enjoy!! Arrived on a hot summers day at Kolmården Yay, they have a escalator to enter the park, beats walking up a hill anyday Some animal greeted us Playground Not sure if this is part of an obstacle course or an animal enclosure, no matter what, at TPR trip will use it to it's fullest anyway Let's head in that direction Some ride Animal Ostrich Looks pretty funky Snow leopards Tiger carving Makes sense since this is Tiger World Hmm, which way to go.. Too bad that the sunken bus wasn't part of the tough way, must have missed the extreme way.. Tigers chilling It was pretty hot this day Random fox, no idea how this image ended up in here among the tigers I wonder if that's blood or just paint, they didn't look that hungry though One of the many cable cars YAY, credit!! Why did they build it at the other end of the park A massive ropeway up in the trees More ropeway Even more It goes on and on Massive thing this Finally at Marine World, new for 2009 I can spy a coaster Miami themed area, looked really nice Yay, roller-skater What it's called Ticket!! Dolphin themed trains For the control panel fans Clever themeing Of course we went for the last row, wonder how much down force that fin creates.. Rides like any other Roller-Skater if I remember correctly Final picture Mmmm Ice-cream perfect on a hot day like this Heading back to the entrance, past the monkeys More Even more There are animals everywhere Into the depths of the African Savanna Elephants Zebras Massive Savanna All the animals kept to themselves YAY Gobi Desert!! It was hot like it though. Hmmm Last thing we saw was the Wolves These were fast and hard to get a good image of Looking for pray And that's it!! My only visit to the place, but by the looks of it, then it's time for a revisit in 2016!!
CPSFMMCW
Huh. Only one coaster? Ten wildfire should definitely put it on the map. But the animal part of it looks pretty sweet. And I like that there's a sky ride. I bet that gives some good views of the animals!
yay101
That looks like a nice zoo! I can't wait to see what it looks like when Wildfire comes Great trip report!
cfc
Thanks for sharing the photos. I had no idea what Kolmarden was, either, when I saw the Wildfire announcement. Looks like a nice place.
gerstlaueringvar
Amazing TR! Really nice park, hopefully Wildfire means it would start to transform to a world class park. Only two weeks and three days left.
raptor6
Thanks for sharing the photos. I had no idea what Kolmarden was, either, when I saw the Wildfire announcement. Looks like a nice place. I think that it's fair to say that the vast majority of posters on TPR had no idea either. I agree about the nice animal displays. Maybe Kolmarden is trying to become the Busch Gardens of Sweden? KingRCT3
Thanks for the TR, looks like a very nice place. And I like that there's a sky ride. I bet that gives some good views of the animals! There is now two of them, the second ropeway opened in 2011 and was build by Dopplemayr. May I post a few pics? (not mine) The entrance to the newest cable car. Beautiful cabins Omega IV by CWA. Here's the course. There're five turns like that during the course, which is very unusual for such installation. Say hello to the giraffes! Photos courtesy of Remontées-mécaniques.net. RickardSjoden
Maybe Kolmarden is trying to become the Busch Gardens of Sweden? Yes, and they are on their way! The new Tiger exhibit opened 2007, Marine World with the Delfinexpressen coaster 2008/2009, Safari cable car ride 2011, new dolphin show in 2013 and now 2014 they are investing large money again! Bamses Värld (Bamses world) will be a theme park for children opening next year and Wildfire something spectacular. After that I hope for some new additions and renovations in the animal section too Personally I would like a new ape exhibit and a new elephant exhibit as these are some of the oldest in the zoo. The big advantages is that they are in the middle of nowhere with lots of space to grow, a stunning landscape with a wonderful view of the sea where ever you go. Here is a few more pictures from Kolmården! Safari savannah Tiger world viewing The restaurant Safari The view from the safari Safari lions Safari view Safari deers Will this be the view from the Widfire?? From the top of the Safari... Birds of prey show Elephant show Can you spot the bear??? Elephant calf Lions in the woods Siberian tiger Amazing, stunning and touching interactive dolphinshow! One of a kind!! Loefet
Ooo, the park have done some nice progress since I was there. Feel free to post more images. They really have a lot of potential, too bad though that they have the same problem as Skara Sommarland, it's a bit of a trek to get there in the first place. soldier148
Wow, looks like they've got the space, the money, and a great plan already in the works.
