McKamey Manor is so intense that nobody has been able to fin

the infamous McKamey Manor who is said to have been taking the concept of an “extreme” haunt to an all new level has posted a very interesting video a few hours ago. It is nearly an hour long, but goes on to explain how the results from the latest two volunteers (one of which was a 15 year career Marine) have proven to them that perhaps McKamey Manor has become too intense with this 2014 version… as no one has been able to survive the entire experience. People are being broken down both mentally and physically to the point that they have to stop the ‘experiment’ early.

Watch the video, or as much as you can… and while it wont show any of the horrors that these victims suffered, you will see them at the start and then at their lowest point where they simply can no longer continue either from the shock, or in the case of the marine, he appeared to be suffering from hypothermia as he was soaking wet and freezing and mentions being put in a freezer a couple of times. Other tales talk about eating worms, being pushed under water, getting beaten for showing resistance (the one guy has a black eye), and more.

While we may never know EXACTLY what is going on in McKamey Manor, I do have to say that it sounds (and looks) more like they are undergoing almost torture like sessions, as if they were captured by terrorists, rather than undergoing a “haunted house” style experience and encounters with the supernatural. The video is quite shocking, but really worth watching… because I don’t think I could ever bring myself to volunteer for this kind of experience. You can watch it below, or if that doesn’t work, click here.

At the same time it could all be a hoax. Meaning, it's generating buzz perhaps in the exact way they want it to. Watching the video it really still screams 'advertising tactic' to me. I'm sure there's a lot of people thinking, "Holy crap, I gotta try this."

While I love haunts, some of these newer haunts (at least) look just a bit too extreme for my tastes. Being bound, gagged, punched, or having live snakes, spiders or ice cold water thrown on me would ummmm....not be what I would consider fun.

This is real. But it's just a home haunt. Seems more like the guy has a fetish to me...

Yeah, I have no interest in these "extreme" haunts. It's like you're paying so that some creep can get his jollies.

We have one in Vegas called The Victim Experience and a friend of mine did it and will never do it again. It's very theatrical, as they literally create the experience of being trapped in a torture porn film, including having people run for their cars and speed away to escape. My friend described it as both horrible and offensive and yet breathtaking. Believe it or not, it was haunt fans who asked for something more extreme, and the demand is there for it.

People who actually want to go through these are either insane or just plain dumb (or both).

I mean, why does this guy even go through the effort of designing all these sets? He could accomplish the same thing by blindfolding somebody, tying them up, and then smacking them around with a baseball bat while dunking them in ice water.

I'll bet this guy's homeowner's insurance premium must be astronomical - that is, if they would even cover this sort of thing! Waivers often don't completely protect one from legal action, especially in over-regulated California.

I sat through some of the Mckamey Manor's videos (mainly the 2012 full experience video, in which he only uploaded 10 of the 20 that showed the entire experience). It's brutal, enough said.

It's super interesting to watch though, because he very explicitly states to people what they're going to go through, has them sign some sort of explicit waiver, and try to talk them out of it. So the ones that do end up going through should know what they're in for, and if they complain... well, they volunteered to do it.

This is only one of three of the top interactive haunts, along with Ringling Brothers' Victim Experience in Las Vegas, and Blackout located in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. The latter utilizes no blood or costumes, but has very heavy sexual content.

Yeah, to me this kind of thing isn't really a "haunt" - It's more like the people who enjoy being kicked in the balls while having sex. (Yes, that's a thing) - And I also think it's the hype that surrounds it that gets in attention. If people even knew half of the disturbing, crazy, sex fetishes out there with what naked people will willingly do to each other for "fun" and those fetishes were publicized more in any way, I don't think people would consider this to be all that horrific.

There's a difference between agreeing to "I'm going to kick you in the balls," and agreeing to "I'm going to allow these guys to inflict unspecified acts of violence upon you, and only I get to decide when you've had enough."

The owner says he warns them beforehand of what they're going to endure, but the people in that video still seemed surprised by how far the violence ended up going once they got in there. The owner does bring them outside every once in a while to make sure they're ok to continue, but unless there's a safe word while they're inside the "haunt," (and his comments on Youtube seem to suggest there's not) this thing doesn't seem quite as "consensual" as he thinks it is.

Ughhh I saw the video too. I would'nt call this a HAUNT at all. Just an endurance test. Possibly even a training session to prepare yourself for being kidnapped by ISIS. I really don't get the appeal of this. This guy who runs it just seems like he is into this crazy stuff and wants to see how far he can get within legal limits. Makes you wonder what kind of people he hired that are willing to torture people. No thank you! I like my haunts the old--fashioned way. Scary BUT FUN!

Something about this whole thing does not add up. He doesn't charge any money, and even if he did, so few people participate that it wouldn't come close to paying for all of that stuff. This guy says he's... a wedding DJ? And I've heard estimates that he has spent $500,000 on his "manor"... how? But at the same time, I'm not sure what he stands to gain from perpetuating a hoax, either. It just doesn't add up.

I'm a little bit surprised by some of the reactions to this. Some people enjoy putting themselves in extreme situations to test their own boundaries, no different from trying something like skydiving. Maybe it's to see what you're really made out of, maybe it's just for bragging rights. Regardless, if it wasn't difficult or genuinely frightening, the draw wouldn't be there. The man is providing a service, and I don't see why that's perverse or wrong.

EDIT: Of course, now having seen the video, it's really stupid to have people quitting because they physically can't take any more. Obviously after a certain point hypothermia sets in and that's it, the experience is over. The challenge should be more mental, not physical. EDIT2: Ok so, it HAS to come out at some point what the hell happened... the curiosity is just too much. Clearly, something did not go as planned.

Dont understand the enjoyment of these but to each their own. Wouldnt call this a haunt either. I can go to a kick boxing gym and let people rail on my face or eat a handful of worms if I really wanted to but then what would that prove. Not sure what this proves either.

That video has my morbid fascination in over drive. I thought I understood what Mckamey was all about, forcing people into extreme situations like being locked in coffins, being bound and gagged, etc, but I'm in the end, nothing you could classify as genuine torture. But it seems they crossed over into new territory this year, pushing the "pain" aspect way way way too far. I never got the impression that if you fight back you'd be stone-cold beaten, and actually treated like a POW. I can't help but believe McKamey when he said he tried something new and made a mistake. I may be reading too much into this, but on his facebook he says there's going to be fewer tours than ever this year, mostly abridged 2-3 hour versions, and blames it on DJ gigs, but I can't help but wonder if he scared himself this year, seeing how much he was actually traumatizing people, and wants to give it a rest. I mean, for a grown man to be crying when he realizes it's OVER, I can't imagine that was really the reaction he was going for.

It's all the stuff that we're not allowed to hear about that has me curious. He keeps talking about a contraption, that every time he was put in it it got worse, and that's really what broke him. Every time the guy alludes to it the sound cuts out, and McKamey tries to convince him to keep going by promising not to put him in it again. Eating worms, simulated drowning, we know about all that stuff. But at some point, it HAS to come out what the hell that "contraption" is.
