Today the IMG Group announced its license agreement with MARVEL Entertainment, to build and operate a new indoor family entertainment centre, MARVEL Adventure, which is scheduled to open by the end of 2013. The centre will be housed within a large fully enclosed 1.2 million square feet themed family entertainment destination in the City of Arabia development along Emirates Road in Dubai. It is part of an ongoing development that is set to be the region's largest entertainment destination.

The official ground breaking ceremony was held today to mark the start of construction. The 350,000 square feet Marvel Adventure family entertainment centre will include retail outlets, dining facilities and a range of interactive entertainment experiences featuring MARVEL characters.

"We are pleased to collaborate with MARVEL for our multi-faceted themed family entertainment destination. This will be one part of the region's largest temperature controlled entertainment destinations that IMG is developing which is sure to be a strategic landmark in Dubai, appealing to the region as well as other parts of the world," said Mr. Ilyas Galadari and Mr. Mustafa Galadari, of IMG Group.

The initial plans for the family entertainment centre include:
  • Merchandise & Retail outlets stocking a full range of MARVEL merchandise
  • Food and Beverage facilities covering a wide range of international cuisines
  • Interactive entertainment experiences based on MARVEL characters
  • Acres of common areas and facilities
"Following the outstanding global and local box office success of Marvel's The Avengers, and the strong affinity for MARVEL in the UAE, we are thrilled to be working with the IMG Group to bring some of MARVEL's most popular characters to kids and families across Dubai," stated Simon Philips, President of MARVEL Entertainment International. "Whether it's having fun at one of the entertainment experiences, hanging out with friends and enjoying a meal or collecting the latest MARVEL gadgets and action figures, there is truly something for everyone at MARVEL Adventure."

In the UAE, Marvel's The Avengers has broken 30 box office records including the biggest industry opening ever in the region and the film is already the 3rd most successful of all time. In-between now and the opening of MARVEL Adventure, fans will have the opportunity to see more of their favourite Super Heroes in cinemas with Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man opening this summer, followed by MARVEL's Iron Man 3 in May 2013 and Thor 2 later in 2013.

The MARVEL name and characters have been licensed to the IMG Group by MARVEL Entertainment. Marvel Adventure is owned, managed and operated by the IMG Group which has developed the complex including the interactive entertainment experiences.

The overall facility for the themed entertainment destination will be in excess of 1.2 million sq. feet in its first stage and will be the largest temperature controlled indoor entertainment destination in the world. It is designed to attract 10,000 plus visitors per day. A unique facility of this magnitude will also generate a significant demand, in the vicinity, for hotels and hotel apartments, along with other retail and leisure components.

Little short on detail. The claim to be the worlds largest temperature controlled indoor entertainment destination is a little dubious.

I've gone pantless!

All I got out of that is "we are building a big building in the desert and there will be some Marvel Comics characters."

I assume that this will be the location of the Mack launched coaster (ala Blue Fire) which was reportedly sold to IMG in Dubai? I could be wrong but sounds like it could fit?

Don't really need too much to twist our arm and go back to Dubai...an actual park with a credit would certainly help!

I'm sure by 2030 or something one of these parks will have opened.

http://www.arabianbusiness.com/dubai-s-worlds-of-adventures-open-in-early-2014-502859.html#.UaKypJWXKfG

IMG Group's Worlds of Adventure theme park in Dubai is set to open in early 2014, a senior executive with the developer has said.

The theme park, which will be located in Dubai’s much-delayed City of Arabia development in Dubailand, will consist of four zones – the Marvel Universe, the Cartoon Network zone, the Lost Valley zone, and the IMG entertainment zone, as well as a 12-screen cinema, and external F&B and retail areas.

According to Alexander Page, vice president – marketing, Ilyas & Mustafa Galadari Group (IMG), construction is currently on track for the facility, which will consist of roller coasters, themed experiences and other attractions. “Work is happening on two fronts. The on-site construction works have been moved forward significantly with structural columns and space frames being installed," he told Hotelier Middle East.

"Thereafter the offsite ride manufacturing of various vendor sites is currently being done simultaneously with shipment planned in the later part of this year. So rides, the themes, the attractions and different pieces that make up the park are in different parts of the world being made and finalised,” he said.

The first phase of the theme park will be in excess of 1.5m sq ft, making it the largest indoor entertainment destination in the world. The park is designed to attract in excess of 20,000 visitors per day and ticket prices will be in line with other attractions.

“The pricing structure will be very competitive. We haven’t finalised it yet but we know what other attractions are charging. Our capacity is much higher, much larger, so we are not going to be overpriced whatsoever. We want people to come and enjoy the theme park,” said Page.

“In terms of the scale and size of it, it is very likely that you will need a full day if not much more to be able to try all the rides or the attractions so there will be day passes where people can come back within the same week, there will be annual memberships, VIP entries,” he said.

Earlier this month, plans for a dinosaur theme park were announced by IMG Group which claimed The Lost Valley will be the first of its kind in the theme park industry and will include animatronic dinosaurs and rollercoaster rides.

Spread over 270,000 square feet, the dinosaur attraction was the third to be announced in the 1.5m sq ft IMG Theme Park.

The first two zones will be designed around Marvel Comic and Cartoon Network characters, while the fourth and fifth zones will be announced in due course.

The opening of IMG Worlds of Adventure (IMGWOA) has been pushed back to mid 2014, according to Adam Alexander Page, vice-president of group marketing at Ilyas and Mustafa Galadari Group, the owner of the entertainment facility.

“We are set for a midyear soft opening and official shortly after,” Page said. The facility was expected to open in the early part of the year. “The changes on opening schedules are related to expansions of the design and scale of the project,” he said. “The park has a number of world firsts as attractions, some of these have never been designed before. A project of this size is not a small feet to design and build,” he added.

Covering an area in excess of 1.5 million square feet (140,000 square metres), IMGWOA will feature rides, attractions and retail outlets. It will consist of the Marvel, Cartoon Network, Lost Valley and IMG Boulevard zones, as well as a 12-screen cinema.

The entertainment facility is part of the City of Arabia project, which is a retail, residential, commercial and entertainment mixed-use development covering 20 million square feet in Dubailand.

Work on the theme park, valued at more than $1 billion, is in progress, according to Page. “We’re finishing the foundations of the rides and the structure of the actual building is complete,” he said. The pricing of tickets is “under discussion,” he added.
