Just a FYI to anyone going to Holiday World, but Voyage is down for the remainder of the year. Holiday World says they want to get a jump start on maintenance so the ride is running smoother in 2020.

Something happened on Saturday as The Voyage went down and never opened up again. The park said on Twitter that it was track maintenance that was scheduled for the end of the season, but had to be moved up.

How smooth was the Voyage running compared to early in the year? I got my smoothest rides ever on it during Holiwood Nights. I have ridden it towards the end of the year in the past and definitely noticed the return run was bumpier.

I've never had a good ride on Voyage later than the spring. It becomes a jack-hammering mess as the season grinds on.

Return run was great in August with all the new wood and IPE wood as the top two layers. The spaghetti bowl turnaround was probably the worst part, but not nearly as bad as I've experienced in years past with others parts of the ride. I'll say they've done an outstanding job the last 2 years with the re-tracked sections. I really think their maintenance team has benefited from working with the GCI crew on Legend in 2016 in terms of how they build their track now.

Having recently ridden Tremors, I wonder if it's worth it long term putting topper track on those 90 degree turns in the spaghetti bowl. The topper track flowed seamlessly with the rest of Tremors and it apparently fixed the roughest part of that ride.

I wish they'd topper track the entire layout and run trains that aren't PTC.

Or just RMC it.

I rode it at the very end of June and the only smooth-ish part was the first drop and in the tunnels.

When I rode The Voyage in July, aside from a moment or two in the spaghetti bowl, it didn’t feel any rougher than average for a wooden coaster. Still nice to see them maintaining it well, even if it means closing it for the season early.

I wonder how much longer Holiday World is going to pour money into maintaining Voyage season after season before developing a long-term solution like topper track or even prefabricated wood. It would still keep the classic wooden coaster feel while significantly cutting maintenance costs (I assume). And like Canobie Coaster said, the old-to-new track would flow seamlessly and would only be necessary on the most intense parts of the ride.

Another example is Roller Coaster at Lagoon. Obviously that ride is no where near as tall, fast, or intense as Voyage, but there are a few spots on that coaster with topper track (or something very similar) and it works wonderfully.

Topper track or I-Box it, but keep the layout as similar as possible to the original ride, I say. I wouldn’t want to see a crazy “typical” RMC layout. Smooth Voyage is my #1 overall coaster experience. Haven’t ridden it since about 2008, though.
