I went back to the park today, getting my Coaster fix and all.

Decided to take a few "normal" shots, then play with them and exposure,
when I got back home. It always turns out a bit...uh.... 'psychedelic',
but that's okay with me. Faaaar out, man.

I started doing this, with a few shots taken during my recent tour with the
TPR 2014 Scandi Tour, in my trip report thread. With some surprising results.

But for now, here's the results of this visit to Playland...
IMG_6283.JPG
Just an old Pirate Ship blocking the sun.
IMG_6283alt.JPG
WHAM! Waves of colours surrround it like a magnet.
IMG_6285.JPG
A bit of a shot of the Music Express, at the park.
IMG_6285alt.JPG
BOING! This is what I liked the best, from the colour ranges.
IMG_6286.JPG
Hmmm. Clear blue sky, here.
IMG_6286alt.JPG
Doesn't have to be blue, right? (o;
IMG_6291.JPG
I always enjoy taking shots of AtmosFEAR with the background scenery.
IMG_6291alt.JPG
Interesting layers of colour here.
IMG_6292.JPG
New promo posters for the season, displayed at Coaster's entrance area. Cool!
(And I's sure there will be comments about the far right poster, hmm? Yes? no?)

Just a reminder to anybody, wondering when Gay Day at Playland (PNE)...

IT'S THIS SATURDAY!!! :b :br

This day includes a Drag Promenade showcasing local drag talent from Vancouver. This day is family centered, purchase a ticket through the Vancouver Pride Society website in order to have proceeds go to us and to support our free public events. Come participate in face painting, go on the rides, or enjoy a refreshment in the 19+ beer garden.

Saturday, July 19
, 2014 @ 11:00AM - 6:00PM
PNE Playland
Vancouver BC

Hope to see a lot of all of you out there.
Cheers for Queers!

(EDIT to add: Last year. they separated the Gay Day Area from Playland itself, so you didn't have to pay for a day ticket to the park, and just go see/do the Gay Day stuff. I have no idea what this year's will be, but last year's set up seemed to work well.)

(EDIT-EDIT to add: I have the Season's Pass to Playland, so getting in is a no prob for myself. I would just be paying the asked donation for entry into The Gay Area.)

Our amazing Bar Staff of the bar at Gay Day, last summer. They were awesome, and I hope some of them are there for us, again. (o:

So yesterday, Playland was supposed to go Pink Purple and Gay.
But we had a rather big rainfall late that morning, and for
locals, that means it's reeeeally tough to get them out to any
event - even if it clears up and sun comes out...

Which did happen. But I showed up, did a round on Coaster,
checked out any special events happening (nothing till mid-aft.),
and that was about it.

Plus they finally started announcing "the end" of Crazy Beach Party.
Which for a flat here, I guess was a Big Deal to Announce, lol.

So, something will arise and be waiting for us, next season.

(And here's what I took of the park, while there.)
IMG_6313.JPG
So the first thing I see, heading to the main gate is this. A stuck flume "log." It got fixed and was running smoothly, later on.
IMG_6314.JPG
Pride Flags out on the park's fence.
IMG_6314a.JPG
A booth with information about our upcoming Pride Week and Parade. Hi guys!
IMG_6315.JPG
The Poster.
IMG_6316.JPG
Coaster comes in.
IMG_6317.JPG
Coaster goes out and up.
IMG_6318.JPG
Floss is out in force. And those are AtmosFEAR drink thingies in front.
IMG_6319.JPG
omg A Faerie! (where the kids' train ride goes around)
IMG_6320.JPG
More flags.
IMG_6320a.jpg
These two were at the bar, like they were last summer. Nice to see them again.
IMG_6321.JPG
It looks like these trash cans are falling in love, and wanting to get married too! (o;
IMG_6323.JPG
Another information tent. And that's all I took. Except...
IMG_6324.JPG
The Big Announcement Poster for next year.

^ Thanks for posting the article. <sighs> It has been so many, many years with all this rumor
and speculation about "what's happening to Playland and the PNE." I just hope this new plan
does go forward. Playland has been way too much of a "parking lot midway" all these years.
Unfortunately for myself, if and when this whole thing is finished, I'll be near 80, if not older!

The Game of Thrones Exhibit at the PNE, will certainly bring fans through the turnstiles,
considering it was a separate upcharge exhibit in Toronto, etc.

(EDIT To Add: The PNE will run from August 16 - September 01.)

I have never seen the GoT series. But this exhibit of costumes, and concept art looks interesting.
Will check it out when the PNE happens, late August. Lineups pending, ha ha. (o;

~ The 2014 PNE (Pacific National Exhibition) Visit ~

Here's my report on how my "one day only" visit went, to our annual fair and exhibition, The PNE.
I got there very early (Aug.27), before the gates opened, so that I would have a good start at one
of the main attractions at this year's fair. Game of Thrones, the series a lot of fans fave
currently, had a touring exhibit (through North America, ending here at the PNE) of props,
costumes, stills from the series...even an In Memoriam wall, which I thought was nice.

I got there right at the opening, did the tour of the exhibit, then continued out into the fair itself,
checking out the food stalls, other exhibits, the farm animals, Playland, all of it.

However, I didn't ride anything while there. Our season pass does not cover the rides during the fair,
and then it's an Up-the-upcharge for them, either as an all day pass, separate tickets, evening pass.
And the waits for the regular park rides are usually 3-5 times as long to wait for them, than as
walk-ons during Playland's own season. I wish the PNE would do that for us Playland pass holders.
Give us a discount for the PNE ride pass, upon showing our season pass card. Possible? I hope so,
eventually.

Here's the photos from my day there... (Actually over 9 hours spent there, which was a record for me!)
IMG_6398.JPG
The major info pamphlet for the Fair.
IMG_6400.JPG
Which included this main page for Game of Thrones Exhibit - this was free,
included in the park admission!
IMG_6411.JPG
Arriving at the main entrance to the PNE, corner of E.Hastings and Renfrew St.
IMG_6412.JPG
Yep. Definitely here.
IMG_6413.JPG
After buying the ticket, now in the entry queue. We're let in at 10:30; fair 'officially' opens at 11.
IMG_6414.JPG
Noted.
IMG_6415.JPG
A reminder of where we are.
IMG_6415a.JPG
Where the Game of Thrones Exhibit resides. And the opening queue for it. Interesting PNE Trivia: This bldg.
was originally called the Garden Auditorium, and we saw our first PINK FLOYD concert here in..... mid-1970's?
IMG_6419.JPG
A POPular culture tv phenom, becomes POP culture itself.
IMG_6420.JPG
Beautiful costumes, up close.
IMG_6422.JPG
Quotes 'n Stills from the series.
IMG_6427.JPG
Is that a d-d-d-dragon up there?
IMG_6430.JPG
This is the "Fur Era" of the series, yes?
IMG_6431.JPG
Theme Park map? No. Definitely not.
IMG_6432.JPG
"Ascend the Wall" ~ Virtually!
IMG_6434.JPG
The In Memoriam Wall. Who was YOUR favorite death? (o;
IMG_6437.JPG
The Next Season Wall ~ No spoilers give out, I suspect.
IMG_6439.JPG
Then, through the hastily assembled "Gift Shop"...and I'm out of it! (more pix to follow...)
IMG_6417.JPG
Oh, right. Forgot "The Iron Throne" shot. (o; Enjoy.

That's awesome! Love Game of Thrones. If it went to Kings Island I would totally go, but if it was a standalone ..probably not.

^ Well, this was the last stop on this exhibit's tour. But - there are more photos I took of the exhibit,
on the Game of Thrones Thread, here at TPR....

http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=67641&p=1498137#p1498137

I put the majority of the photos there. With a 'different' Iron Throne photo too, lol.

Here's some more photos taken, after my jog through the Game of Thrones Exhibit...
IMG_6440.JPG
Our "Showcase." Meaning everything and anything you saw "As Seen on TV"...is probably here.
IMG_6441.JPG
Looking towards an outdoors band shell (sort of) for day and night acts/shows/concerts at the fair.
IMG_6442.JPG
What was sand castles last year - is.... uh...what are these, this year?
IMG_6443.JPG
Oh. Of course! What else could they be!
IMG_6444.JPG
They looked okay. Still, the yarn around the sheep looked creepy. But around the corner here...
IMG_6446.JPG
True Eco-Art! And a harp!
IMG_6447.JPG
Another one 'in flight' with a cello, I hope. Great display.
IMG_6448.JPG
So now I went looking through the Fair Map... uh.....
IMG_6450.JPG
Yarn Bombing???
IMG_6451.JPG
Sop I went and found it.
IMG_6452.JPG
Yarn Bombing. And I have concerns there is a convention for it, coming up. :P
IMG_6453.JPG
This looked promising, the caterpillar did.
IMG_6454.JPG
But the rest of it was just swatches and knits around tree trunks. Or hanging up, somehow.
I was hoping for more animals, etc. But - the actual park is also usually un-crowded with all the
craziness going on that is PNE, and it is a real oasis for peace of mind - and wallet, lol!
