Homer
B&M are busily designing their new smooth, spinny coaster thingy and need to factor this trinomial. One element is at 15p(squared), the second is at -26p, and the third at +11. To help B&M, what is 15p(squared)-26p+11 factored?
robbalvey
I'm just going to take a wild guess here and say the answer is "4" I once thought Algebra was the name of a cleavage support system, so I'm probably not the best person to ask when it comes to math! --Robb "I hope that helps!" Homer
Wrong, also, the origin of Algebra comes from some arab guy in the BC years named Al Jabru or something like that, developed the most annoying math system known to man called Algebra. -Carl "Okay, maybe this is the stupidest thread in the Ask Alvey forum right now." robbalvey
Well I don't know if this helps you, but I found this really neat picture of a trinomial cube: --Robb "Pretty huh?" Alvey

Mr. Volcano
^ I totally get algebra now! lmao It looks like one of those rummicube riddler.. thingys -Justin "who knows that good algebra is 4+4 = 8"
RCFreak
I probably shouldn't help, but the answer is (15p-11)(p-1) Remember to FOIL kids. HAHA i did this to see if I remembered how to do it, and YAY I did. It was very easy becuase of the odd numbers (so the only product of 11 is 11 and 1 and they both had to be negative to get a positive end but negative middle) and it was pretty much the same for 15, only 15 and 1 would work (15p and p). So there you have it.
Corkscrewed
^ Yes. That's exactly it. A rather easy factor job if you ask me.
RCFreak
Whihc is why I was able to do it. Captian "I've been out of school to long" Hector
Big Ed
RC Freak, As a current math teacher, I must say kudos on remembering FOIL
Space Freak
Well, if it doesnt factor very well, which in this case it does, you can use the quadratic formula also. x = (-b +- sqrt(b^2 - 4ac))/ 2a Where p would be x in this case. SharkTums
It's been way too long since I took Algebra...what was FOIL again? Was it First, Outer, Inner, Last? I seriously can't believe I don't remember this anymore! Elissa "getting to old" Alvey
Homer
^You are correct, FOIL is first outer inner last. Carl "Actually studying for the FCAT, Freakishly Crappy ASSessment Test" F.
SharkTums
HAHA! To show my age, I was in the "test" group for the FCAT. Paul
I don't know why people think Algebra is so hard...I thought it was pretty easy. It's geometry that sucks, my teacher is one sadistic b*tch! Some schools water the subject down a bit by not making students learn these evil little things called "proofs", but since I'm in the advanced Geometry class, we have to do them. =( -Paul "Just wait until you future-engineers have to learn Boolean Algebra...now that's fun!" Bleichert
Space Freak
You know, geometry is full of proofs. I really dont know why. It appears that all geometry teachers make you do proofs. Of course, I think learning any math is hard, no matter what it is. But once you know it, it seems easy. To me at least... Wait until you have to learn Differential Equations, then you will wish you were back in the good ol days where algebra sucked. Those are my two cents... 8)
Sir Clinksalot
God I hated Algebra, and math as a whole. Of course, I got a job working with numbers, and now my job is training people to work with numbers. How's that for irony. Gregg "Has no idea what FOIL is" C. robbalvey
^ BAH! You do to know what FOIL is!!! It's what you cook your pot roast in!!! --Robb "The only foil I know is food related!" Alvey
