Coaster trips in the 90sHi Robb,
So today I was browsing Theme Park Review and some forum posts, and I came across this cool list you made quite a while back. http://themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=36887&p=466836#p466836 Looking back from about 1996-2001, it seems you rode a lot of the new coasters each year in the United States. Back in those days, were your trips planned with these parks getting new coasters in mind and adding other parks around them? I'm asking as kind of a trip planning question, because you've visited every big park in the United States imaginable, so I thought it would be interesting to hear how you planned trips in that time period I mentioned. Thanks! Coaster Count - 183
Re: Coaster trips in the 90s
Trips during that time wasn't that much different than now. We would mostly target newer coasters that we knew were opening at parks. In those earlier years we still had the internet but more in the form of Usenet groups or AOL message boards and there were roller coaster and theme park groups then. Sure, there was a lot more "paper maps" than "Google Maps" and booking hotels and flights over the phone instead of online, but I don't think overall our trip planning is that much different then as it is today. Even in 1996 many of the bigger parks had websites. Take a look at Six Flags in 1996: https://web.archive.org/web/19961218225259/http://sixflags.com:80/ And don't forget, Theme Park Review technically went online for the first time in 1996! Surely you remember a time before everyone had pocket phones and internet everywhere?!
Maps are available, you could call to get brochures or times, etc. Re: Coaster trips in the 90s
Yeah but I didn't really plan trips until 2002. I'm talking about Pre 1995. Proud Member of the 300 Coaster Club. Joined June 16, 2012
