Alton Towers:

This the "Towers" part of Alton Towers

38-trees.jpg.55f4ea3b4fad906cc65ee2fdc26f9942.jpg

These trees look like they came out of RCT

Prepare for the Vekoma Brace Position

36-animal.jpg.e23ca19bbcd53f78259be168adab62ae.jpg

Sorry Robb, no food for you!

Time to get screwed

33-shed.jpg.f3d26c33e228902ef9e7c3963b29cc7b.jpg

Ooh! Signature shot!

32-banked.jpg.837d8762875ddb40f3876ad618aa47b3.jpg

Oblivion has a 90 degree banked turn between the drop and the brakes

31-camera.jpg.69d5bccca51bfe8e13ee224304ce42d6.jpg

Fortunately John missed and took a picture of the flat rides instead

30-oblivion.thumb.jpg.fa2f6c4b22e8e99752751d55e7bbc220.jpg

This is Oblivion. Claimed as the first "vertical drop" coaster, the drop is only slightly steeper than the Togo Death Machine Ultra Twisters.

29-credit.jpg.bba4220b348688a35620f612c9ecd6fa.jpg

The credit whores take over Beastie

28-twocars.jpg.a196ea286c1cdff3a908aa6222b5e0f4.jpg

You can tell we're not at a Six Flags park

26-elissa.jpg.e50b1787ab475e97cfef3a45b44f992b.jpg

So sad and pathetic that I got to ride with Elissa (who loves spinning coasters)

24-sadandpathetic.jpg.bca305fc8fdde5dfede06f20a9600859.jpg

Dan and I took the Sad and Pathetic line

I've got this credit!

19-treeline.jpg.1c843ed8a868bc67ff779732de4f3ae0.jpg

Strict ordinances require rides to be built below the treeline

18-crush.jpg.35737707153d07ba1fd154ee732ea82f.jpg

Alton Towers has a castle, and a big one that that.

16-broken.jpg.afdd9fc90b6b560eaedfd31e8819a378.jpg

John took a picture of Rita (either that or he tried to get a shot of Corkscrew and missed).

End of story (and ERT for that matter).

15-barry.jpg.f37d0c4a02cd6d0332c288c97704bac9.jpg

Who's that sad and pathetic person back there by himself?

A close up of the brake fins that retract when the train launches

13-corkscrew.jpg.cd54e1ae751337bd31abb41f1a903cd6.jpg

Darn it! Corkscrew is running

12-otsrs.jpg.e6137fb7c8fd627dd69fd08127214d48.jpg

Rita is one of many Intamin rockets with OTSR's

11-ugland.jpg.a498ecf661eb07609fe165337c03c4e3.jpg

In Ugland, we get ERT on Corkscrew!

10-queues.jpg.dd26f59bb9d5306b078601231c8cb211.jpg

Similar to a Universal park, the Tusseuds parks have these electronic displays around the park

09-sigshot.jpg.ceded3addd98f2e1b5ec49de513ade34.jpg

Some of the impressive landscaping. Would make a great spot for a terrain woodie

08-splashcarts.thumb.jpg.b8d656cc225c22640daf0b46df8a22fc.jpg

Hey Dan, want to go on this? It's only ₤3

07-purpleflowers.jpg.05d977b6a5bee7d2024e6702403d6529.jpg

Purple flowers were a common theme at Alton Towers

06-walk.jpg.df098a88fc6f39eac637bea5ccc60514.jpg

The fifteen minute walk from the hotel to the park, however, did not. Oh well, there's still the monorail

05-hotel2.jpg.470bd8a40da80b1bd0277e660057c552.jpg

The place feels like it belongs at a Disney or Universal resort

04-hotel.jpg.36c93f2e6b263a1a81d96f1263467428.jpg

This was the hotel we stayed in at Alton Towers

03-donkey.jpg.c4c05389181803233623fcd60c52b18e.jpg

Here's the random donkey

02-robbandpizza.jpg.1aeeb3c3569d7864887ac154abd8585f.jpg

As part of "Elissa Bingo", we had to witness Robb eating something as one of the squares

01-gasstation.jpg.37474d7b67cbc201b062e6bb5c8de9df.jpg

A lot of the parks we visited were out in the middle of nowhere, but still managed to attract a fair number of visitors

More from Alton Towers

92-elevator.jpg.97c569b3e5b03a01c9bf0a7fee663019.jpg

If you're ever at the Alton Towers Hotel, be sure to check out the Elevator Ride. While not as good as the Magical Escalator, it's an interesting experience

91-skyride.jpg.c7f48cd4d61486856a96be914ecf263e.jpg

The skyride was closed today, or was it opening?

86-fantazy.jpg.6254d1c0e20d4b873139d227ee896dac.jpg

Hey Fantazyland, John Wardley did a much better job

85-firstdrop.thumb.jpg.7f7038520bd7c48ec89a72b7aa29cb69.jpg

The ride is by no means tall, but packs a punch

83-ert.jpg.605b96e1ebafdb95300140ae05ce5df8.jpg

The next morning was ERT on Nemesis

81-clamped.jpg.e4bd133591dfe75099c705472b2c9bd7.jpg

This is what happens when you illegally park at Alton Towers. Your wheel gets clamped and your car painted in wild colours

80-blaster.thumb.jpg.40eeccdffbe6e39af2599c03bf1ac9bb.jpg

The hotel had a partially enclosed waterpark, complete with a Master Blaster slide

75-drop.jpg.2071f0f629d3a73a5fde179c0184a45e.jpg

This would be a good place for a drop tower

74-glass.jpg.894e2607eea6c5319eec81a193fc0f34.jpg

Some of the stained glass is intact (or at least restored)

72-spiralstairs.thumb.jpg.4252d6de493159cb67b79fc6291c81a5.jpg

While there is very little in the castle, visitors can explore much of the rooms and some of the battlements

71-raven.jpg.2e4797e2025173fb73b71450baa6d14c.jpg

Alton Towers has ravens and legends, now they just need a voyage

67-steps.jpg.82a256dfa8efde62884290f0e632f58a.jpg

While the castle is mostly empty, there are steps in there that could strike at any time

66-ducks.thumb.jpg.6ac94468d82b49ac52f050136ae3f8a5.jpg

These RC ducks were easier to control than the ones at Lightwater Valley

65-wetness.jpg.1e8ce5ef9a17468d7b4d5cb579367aa8.jpg

This was the wettest that we got on the trip so far

63-bigone.jpg.f894d6f4e83f1e1438053f9d497c1835.jpg

We'll be riding that in a few days

62-flip.thumb.jpg.0e8173840d256e23b6b7b5af39a6f18c.jpg

One of Nemesis's inversions

61-blur.jpg.8af2f69e0f6126c12621fd4ceeeb94fc.jpg

Cool motion blur

60-broken.jpg.0f27afd4fa9e4a5ed524bd06212f25dd.jpg

John took a picture of the Top Spin

58-exclusive.thumb.jpg.cbd3ac6a470ad2ffa83c82feee5273af.jpg

Like Nemesis, AIR has lots of good photo spots

57-air.jpg.8502bd08024d8eac18a7ccf046034454.jpg

AIR was intended to be a "relaxing" ride. No pretzel loop here

56-topspin.jpg.1825f224e4ebe4e86018a2aa5dfe7258.jpg

Ripsaw is a very wet Top Spin. Chessington had one too, but the water effects weren't working.

54-faketrack.thumb.jpg.84ec1e0ec7be1b60904a058373ae3c9c.jpg

Nemesis is extremely well themed

53-verticalloop.jpg.0dafa6faf7ca25ae8a03b829a4dc2b95.jpg

No photo TR is complete without a random vertical loop

52-barry.jpg.b7ac112707661019c171ac904645e344.jpg

Nemesis has many areas for getting good pictures and video

49-intense.jpg.45f8517d971c329d9c15188a17cae935.jpg

While this may be the "World's Most Intense Ride Experience", Nemesis is still extremely smooth for its age.

You should have asked the maintenance department if you could get ERT's on the Oblivion as in that pic you posted. That sure would have been a great ride..lol

Nice pics....it rained only one day there?

They sure do. That is where that "retard" threw that balloon from that zonked my fiance on the head.

I could picture the headlines now:

// I wish I had no conscience as that kid would still be in the hospital.

Okay, so where's the looping waterslide?

25-spin.jpg.636d9c40eff778bcef8994ed5413acdf.jpg

It felt like a giant swing

24-intaminride.jpg.b7e778db3a56c76c1fc7d73e8148e0af.jpg

Come on Elissa. It's a [spinning] Intamin ride! (though it didn't spin very much)

19-shockwave.jpg.628b61af43e62c08303ae9a1a19092b7.jpg

Ever wonder how Shockwave got its logo?

18-firstdrop.thumb.jpg.d37c3beb70eadf61a4e9adeaa6b7b129.jpg

The boat is "ejected" out of the station by a tilting platform behind the gate

17-theme.jpg.b793877906bc999519bdb13966ef6312.jpg

The flume was very well themed. Too bad Dan didn't get to see it

The "double down" flume drop

The log flume features a reverse section

14-straighttrack.jpg.f91b67a7792fba4150a561970222ac7e.jpg

Unlike B&M rides, Shockwave has a section of straight track

13-twist.jpg.f638b3f2a33f8e9a070125788a2cf935.jpg

Shockwave is the only stand-up with an inline twist

12-wheel.jpg.d2d7b2828e412bd923c60a17ec127034.jpg

This is the inverting lift hill. A bit of a gimmick though

11-greenwater.jpg.aad1fa6c72100e3096cccb396cfe4bd9.jpg

Green water was a common theme in the UK

The half-painted Shockwave has the dip before the drop like B&M rides

09-rapids.jpg.ae5d12b20f884de0b614fea9056296d2.jpg

The rapids ride was okay, though we got overtaken several times when stuck in a wave machine

08-shockwavetrains.thumb.jpg.6f78db8e38a119565da019b64bc3d3c7.jpg

Shockwave bears some resemblance to B&M stand-ups, but the trains are somewhat different

05-lapbar.jpg.f31b88b8df6cdc1a80751922beab76e4.jpg

G-Force operates with just lapbars. It's not Schwarzkopf though, as they cut off circulation to the lower half of your body during the ride

03-powered.jpg.9e4d79803b32ed47964ecffaf190fe93.jpg

The Buffalo coaster is a powered credit for those who count them. Pales in comparison to the Runaway Mine Train at Alton though

02-intamindrop.jpg.26b68831bf42b9d5c7c4c82140ea835b.jpg

The ride has several cars, including sit-down, stand-up, and a floorless (which is NOT guy friendly)

^All the trains are being refurbished, all new restraints, new transfers for the Logo, completely new paint job.

It's rumoured that X-Sector will be completely refurbished for next year, but they've started on Oblivion early, all the track will be re-painted eventually to a nice crisp black, it will look good!

Elissa on the "ass-bruise" slide

27-green.jpg.488568ba2c8518dff069301ff96316d1.jpg

Are there any water rides in England that have clean water?

26-foam.jpg.448c82c0b2d2b02fdea1221ad929d7c5.jpg

That is foam building up behind the boats

25-river.jpg.689fa2388dfcb88b86ac15c9032436fe.jpg

We found the lost river ride

24-sideloop.thumb.jpg.2ab6bb1893847fb6677d10254073acd1.jpg

Sideloop...though the trees!!

23-cobraroll.jpg.3a3cac4340deb2eacff1cf8f6401e23f.jpg

We did not get the chance to go fishing from the cobra roll

22-loop.jpg.630cbf3bd2bf23993b806f7d7f295b34.jpg

Vertical loop

21-station.jpg.11320a0b7e5575db83f9ad001451a1bc.jpg

Vekoma speed into the station!

20-helix.jpg.ed05c243d402d4c70fa274c9d7fb2785.jpg

The helix was the roughest part of the ride. It's not as smooth as Nemesis, but still smooth as a baby's bottom

19-speed.jpg.4ec3a69e3b464b771e6bfc6d0392b209.jpg

It goes as fast as Vekoma possible

18-kumali.jpg.5ad4531f829e4452622aa135924e2573.jpg

Kumali though the trees!

17-knock.thumb.jpg.600d4f2e8e35cba540ff4f1c72376f15.jpg

I guess I should have knocked first

16-boysroom.jpg.623f10d2d03318ab49308ff605cb5dd8.jpg

When you gotta go...

15-dome.jpg.96461c685681ea4e3b1e77ab9060e224.jpg

This reminded many of us of the Crystal Maze back at Oakwood

14-ass.jpg.36b50cebcf5b721a36ae243aca34d6d8.jpg

Find the ass

13-donkey.jpg.59b04a7a850541769d3f466fecb36c2a.jpg

I never did find the flamingos, but I did find they donkeys

12-gator.jpg.1223ea6871b5e5350832387a5ae92be2.jpg

Coney Beach called Flamingoland ahead of time, so they only let kids ride the powered kiddie.

11-mouse.thumb.jpg.cbb42e8d178c6218a0ae3a5150ce2297.jpg

Why didn't they tear this one out instead of the Schwarzkopfs

10-mouse.jpg.ed60a55bba460e9a05d560ea50523fd6.jpg

Another credit, though this one isn't made by Vekoma

09-kiddie.jpg.77c165d79120fab53ce6619df6dba890.jpg

Once again we terrorize the kids on the kiddie coaster

08-corkscrew.jpg.360c3530277c978070145cb5247801ac.jpg

I rode in the "magic Vekoma seat", and only got my head whacked once (though rather hard)

07-corkscrew.jpg.20c174fbc7bce0ab4d73c8ef7f286956.jpg

First credit, a Vekoma of course

But we are here for the rides that bear the mark of quality...

A sign of the ride to come

OMG, the FUDGE!!! Clint and I bought like a kilo and a half of that stuff, stupidly, and then spent the rest of the trip trying to finish it off! It even ended up coming to Sweden with us for God's sake! Stupid Brits and Aussies, never can resist a bargain. Good fudge though!

Nice pictures Will, I like the shot of the rat tunnel taken from the floor, different to any others I've seen.

EDIT: I'd already seen about a dozen pictures of James and Barron flashing on Velocity but this one...

...seems to have the added bonus of Cameron's nipples too! Woo-hoo! Pinball fanboys rejoice around the world...

My Photo TR's don't seem to be getting many hits. I guess I am that sad and pathetic.

I like your Photos, there great

Also, did you know that alton DID try to get a terrain woody but the locals

would not have it so that idea went for good

^ I know. We're idiots. It was gorgeous but... Way too much of it. I don't actually remember whether we finished it all! I know I ate some of the last of it on the plane coming back from Sweden, but I don't recall what happened to it then...

Pleasurewood Hills

39-credit.jpg.82bcb5fa95adf8d723c7c99935f20631.jpg

Sorry, that doesn't count as a credit

38-threed.jpg.3c38aa374c2635b496b8721c599d9f2f.jpg

Threeeeeeeeeeeeee-deeeeeeeeeeeee!

37-boats.jpg.c9cfbcc9625fddafcce96add73be4cf5.jpg

Much of it is outdoors

36-tales.jpg.1b2b6a24bbda668c96782e64e580ed2a.jpg

Tales of the Coast is another "dark" ride

35-darkride2.jpg.fb7fccb220d0f9f49ed22e086eb3f9d5.jpg

Fortunately we had a kid to ride with

34-darkride.jpg.097b31fe8525f882820bf92e7dc4ffc9.jpg

PH had a few dark rides. This was a "kiddie ride"

33-foreman.jpg.9f05f95707336d00b739bd77f69458ec.jpg

It's the George Foreman Grill ride

32-beergarden.jpg.107b50e4a3f995326375bb32aa3cc96b.jpg

Due to the lack of vertical loops at the park (besides in the parking lot), this was probably Derek's favorite spot

31-dirt.jpg.2f8f15b3b0c7bcacb56341f7379c6414.jpg

More dirt!

30-dirt.jpg.ed293f49831a94a4c471d462ebd9a4ff.jpg

Dirt!

Hey Elissa, you know you want to ride that slide!

28-boomerang.jpg.6365658c422fa3fd987e693351bd79b3.jpg

Here's what the new ride might look like

27-chairlift.thumb.jpg.3d9efdfb39c2e820430d498f0ebe7bd7.jpg

Time for Merry Go Straight, or Alpine Chairlift, or something

26-ryan.jpg.371c44b53f608dfdf25faf80a6f9f4fe.jpg

25-john.jpg.aac54a0a1677ef770c34c5381ed43aee.jpg

Okay John, we've all got the credit

24-fun.thumb.jpg.6bddf01f0373c6f2beac7ac250b52e34.jpg

We are having way too much fun on the kiddie coaster

23-credittrain.jpg.4123733167b4ea152accd9b37cf12a94.jpg

It's the credit whore train

22-credit.jpg.9137d973cefce67639a9d0cf53a4c302.jpg

Time for Snake in the Grass, or Rattlesnack, or whatever it's called

21-ducks.jpg.4996ef054d9ee6e6b6d377601b4483ef.jpg

The geese are known to attack when provoked

20-crush.jpg.59365de73d7b97726b65e542dc6a2d61.jpg

Still bigger than Disneyland's

19-jcb.jpg.fc2889d7d53f48f135b729c7a62b6d9e.jpg

This looks like a fun ride

18-dirt.jpg.03551a6f03978d26ef11645d90519986.jpg

Here's some dirt

17-upthelift.jpg.3e5f44be18aac91959d396f21031ba0e.jpg

Going up the lift

16-twister.jpg.ca64fbb6557e6ba64228341d0d05a026.jpg

Another view of the twisted track

15-sigmove.jpg.fa6e4b2d40af3d2818ac42c95dae8786.jpg

Signature move!

14-ride.jpg.2cacb5c2b4134bd04ac1cd806e4ef3e2.jpg

What's that I see in the front seat?

13-stuck2.jpg.27de2b0714d1d1d35649791696c24313.jpg

Well John did take a picture

12-stuck.thumb.jpg.f544286058c44885eb5f411d4f31ec9a.jpg

"Roller Coaster 1 has broken down" - "Restraints stuck closed"

11-layout.jpg.c8db1d085d48812b7ba94d6be87bce26.jpg

From here you get an idea of the twisted layout

10-transfer.jpg.ce3c7bdb7e61720324c5cda783a4175d.jpg

The ride has seperate loading and unloading stations, although they didn't help very much with only one train

09-queue.jpg.1b8f0d0e6479466bd1217957df856036.jpg

The ride was operating with a single eight person train, making for slow throughput. At least we were escorted to the ride as soon as the park opened

08-track.jpg.ca9f9e26adc75ba45730134ce1d12cfd.jpg

07-john.jpg.d2efb494e3e4c5cf4ce532c1be7a5dc1.jpg

I wonder what will happen if John took a picture of the track in the background. Being a Vekoma, I think it might get put back together.

06-downforthecount.jpg.1a16432550a66d168966239ee782911e.jpg

There was also another credit here, but it wasn't quite ready to ride

03-credit.jpg.701b9edd9b53a8d1d8228ed51ca88045.jpg

First thing we see at Pleasurewood is the classic Schwarzkopf

02-aussies.jpg.98b16f0dd4636f64bd153bbe6796db19.jpg

Our trip to Pleasurewood was delayed by the Aussies buying beer

01-camera.thumb.jpg.0ad4ef8c9dff1d709a87359fbdf89e72.jpg

What happens when your camera breaks during the trip? Buy a new one, of course!
