Retired Coasters

Recommended Posts

I think Whirlwind was a Vekoma, hence it not being that great.

I love, love, love Arrow megaloopers and I can't believe Shockwave at SFGam was dismantled for a friggin' mediocre flyer like Superman.

Great American Scream Machine at SFGADV is one of my favorite coasters in the park. I rode S:UF once there, and I will probably not ride it again, it's a boring ride in my opinion. GASM also holds a place near my heart, as it was one of the first "huge" roller coasters I had ever seen. I still remember vividly driving up to the park and seeing the mammoth red machine off in the distance, back in the day when it used to dominate the skyline. Arrow all the way!

Amen brother. I would rather ride GASM then S:UF anytime. Long Live Arrow!

For a coaster that I think should be dismantled, I think Rotting Timber, I mean Rolling Thunder should be put to rest.

Satchboogie3, I'm the same with Arrows - Viper at SFMM was the first big coaster I ever went on, I had first set foot in the USA and I was at the mountain wwithin 24 hours. I checked out Shockwave at SFGAm, that looks a lot better than what replaced it.

High Speed Thrill Coaster - that wasn't bad for a kiddie ride.

Wildcat at Luna Park Sydney - that was a groovy galaxi style coaster, right next to Sydney harbour and quite possibly my first ever coaster, it was the coaster I had to settle fort until I was tall enough to ride the Big Dipper.

Eureka Mountain Mine Ride (Dreamworld Australia) - I like this one.

High Roller at Stratoshere - the most pathetic coaster but put it 100 feet up and it was the most terrifying coaster ever.

If I remember right, didn't the one at Särkänniemi make the EXACT same Kerchunk noise? It was awesome and easily the most memorable part of the ride.

Oh yeah, not only does it make the Kerchunk noise, it also has the deadstop brakes of doom at the end... Somewhat akin to the looping star at Vidam Park, Budapest; those brakes are like being in a car crash.

I've been on the following retired coasters.

Psyclone @ SFMM

Flashback @ SFMM

Spellbreaker @ Legoland

Villain @ Geauga Lake

Double Loop @ Geauga Lake

Big Dipper @ Geauga Lake

Laser @ Dorney Park

With the exception of the last two coasters on the list, the rest can just rot and turn into scrap metal or firewood for all I care

I liked how when you got off of Flashback at SFMM that everyone would be in pain. I never understood how that stayed open for so long with that kind of an exit by riders.

Shockwave at SFMM was one of the first roller coasters I ever went on.

And maybe its not exactly a coaster, but I miss those stupid People Movers at Disneyland.

And still wish they had Z-Force at SFMM. I love the nut cruncher part of them strapping you in and all the people would be yelling.

I found Flashback mediocre more than awful but that coaster is more than welcome to rust in pieces.

Psychlone on the other hand, if you have given me an axe and a licence to demolish - I wouldn't have stopped chopping until that thing was levelled.

Flashback was actually the first ride I rode at SFMM when I first visited the park in early 2001. Nothing else was open (to much surprise... ). I rode it at least 5 times over the course of the two days I was there. My brother and I got in many re-rides because everything else was either closed or had too long of lines to ride again. Despite it being *slightly* painful, it was sure a unique and thrilling experience. I never did get to ride Psyclone because it was closed every time I went there.

As for other retired coasters, the list is pretty big, but my first coaster, Windjammer, is on the list.

I always wanted to ride Drachen Fire, and I was sad to see that go.

It's always sad when a coaster is removed, but if it's something like a Togo death machine being removed for an awesome Intamin prefab woodie (El Toro), then I'm all for it. Now if the coaster is really bad (Kong, Mind Eraser, Mean Streak, Hurler...), then replacing it with a dirt field would be better!

Coasters I Miss:

Screamin' Demon at KI- first major coaster I ever rode- not that it was that spectacular, but for the whole nostalgia thing.

Shockwave at SFGAM- it WAS a parking lot coaster, but I always found it fun!!!

Deja Vu at SFGAM: I could barely get on it the first couple years, and then when it did operate it took too long to get on it, but gosh darn it, that was a FUN ride. I completely miss it.

Z-Force at SFGAM (later Flashback at SFMM): When it was in Illinois, it ran smooth. When I rode it years later in CA. I had a headache. Guess it didn't travel well.

King Cobra at KI: Took WAY too long to load, but I think it was probably the smoothest stand up I was ever on.

Tidal Wave at SFGAM: Yeah, it was a one-trick pony, but I loved it. It was replaced by the infinitely better Batman the Ride, but I have gotten the chance to ride it again at SFOG and SFKK. Couldn't they have kept it at SFGA??? Or moved it to say, where Crapman: Dark Knight coaster currently stands

I haven't been on too many retired coasters (now that I think about it, don't think I've been on any). There was Speed in Las Vegas but now that that's probably re-opening it wouldn't count. I never got to ride Psyclone (luckily) and Flashback (unfortinately) but for coasters I want taken down:

Boomerang @ Knott's.

Montezooma's Revenge @ Knott's.

Kong @ SFDK.

Jet Star 2 @ Lagoon.

Bat @ Lagoon.

Vortex @ CGA.

I know most of those are unlikely, but they're not fun, and they're not good rides IMO.

I totally forget about 1 that is gone that I liked - Deja Vu at Six Flags Great America, I just love when hangs you there string down the 90 degree drop. Edit: I just remembered, it's gone to Silverwood, and therefore doesn't count.

On Six Flags Great America, I'm still stumped why they would remove the big Arrow Shockwave couldn't they have put the flyer somewhere else?

^Well isn't it the same with HRP? Until there was an official announcement about the park's closer, I changed HRP's coasters to defunct. I mean if the park is closed for good then the Ozark Wildcat should be defunct. If it reopens I would take it off the defunct list. Looks like we will have to see what happens to Celebration City, but yeah your right I wouldn't assume the Ozark Wildcat to be defunct...yet.
