I'm a guy who likes girls but I know that if I was gay

my family would accept it and not go all awkward. But one

of my mates is homophobic and when two gay guys walk

past us holding hands my friend goes "That's Disgusting!".

Then I start having a go at him saying that gay people are

just like you and me except they like guys, theres nothing

disgusting about it. But everytime I say it he challenges me

and says that I'm gay! but I just say to him "So what if I am"

and that shuts him up.

To be honest all that "Gays are disgusting" and "Bisexuals are

freaks" is a load of crap and for a 15 year old to be saying it

is just plain immature and nieve.

Cheers,

I feel the world is (mostly) changing to make gays less of a pariah so it is easier now to accept ones sexuallity.

Not that I am saying being out in high school is easy.

I try to keep hope that this is true, but then I hear of recent horror stories like this and this, and I start wondering if the ingrained hatred and treatment toward gays in this country, that just keeps getting passed on down, will ever change.

OMG!!! I can't believe that these things are happening today in our world!!! Teenage boys murdering school mates because of they're gay?? Is it frequently to watch or read these news up there, in an openminded country such us USA? Sorry, but it's still so hard to believe, really!

One can hear of episodes where a gay is laughed at, or pushed away, but killing him for his sexual condition!!?? Speedracer, i wonder the same as you... will we have a better world in the nearest future??? HOPE SO!

I live in Redneck country, where most people think that "if you ain't a straight white guy, you ain't worth $hit". And that's what I here all the time at school. People are just stupid, that's all there is to it...

^I wouldn't say it's hell. You can't say a whole state is unfriendly. I lived there for many years and it just depends on where you are at. You are going to have your good areas and your bad areas. Same with Florida. You are going to find more acceptance in Southern Florida than you would in the northern part of the state.

^^ I just went on a business trip to Houston about two weeks ago and was there for 8 days. I didn't want to hang out in the hotel room every night, so I blast messaged some of the gays in Houston on MySpace. I got a response immediately. I was introduced to 8 really nice people and only one douche bag. Personally, if I couldn't live in Savannah anymore, I'd head to Houston in a heartbeat!

Have heart though. At age 14, everyone pretty much seems to be an ass. Once you get done with high school, I think you'll have a much different outlook on the GLBT community at large.

When I lived in Dallas I had a HUGE circle of gay friends. I found metropolitan Texas to be as gay friendly as Atlanta or Savannah is. However, I don't think I'd break out the rainbow flag in "small town" Texas any more than I would in "small town" Georgia.

^I think big cities in general (no matter what country you go to) seems to be a LOT more tolerant and accepting to gay people. The university town that I live in right now is pretty old fashioned but if I take the train to Stuttgart (the nearest big city) it is totally open-minded and there are even gay clubs, gay bars etc.

I was in Italy awhile ago visiting an American friend who is studying abroad in a small town called Pavia (beautiful city by the way!) and there is the same problem with the gay community, there exists none! However, Milan is only 20 minutes away and the life for gay people is totally different!

Yeah, i never posted my reply to this topic, however i did cast my vote like two weeks ago.

Anyways, I'm gay. I just don't act a certain way due to my sexuality. I'm just a normal guy, nobody really can even tell that I'm gay, besides the fact that I have a sharp appearance. I'm not flamboyant in any way and i find guys that are over the top flamboyant get on my nerves really fast. Sorry if i offend anyone. I have friends that are like this, and they're only good in small doses.

I'm just your average ordinary guy.

Although I do find select women attractive too and wouldn't mind experimenting some, so I'm basically a very open minded guy. I'm just sexual.

You must be new. Otherwise, you wouldn't care if people could tell. After all, they don't pay your bills.

Anyway, that type of attitude gets on my nerves really fast.

Sorry if I offend anyone.

^ Yeah you're right, some opinions of mine were better unsaid.

I'm sorry.

However, I do love how a good 20% us on here are gay.

Maybe there's hope yet to find a guy that loves coasters just as much as i do.

Previous bf's of mine thought it was a dumb interest.

No prob.

As a person that knows, how should I say, "the many colors of that rainbow": Bi, transgendered, lesbians, female impersonators, "butch", "fem", porn stars, "escorts", etc, I don't think it's fair or right to judge anyone on outward appearances. It's what's on the inside that counts and how they treat you. People speak badly of some of the more feminine people of the community, but don't recall any straight-acting gay men fighting the police in the Stonewall bar, which started the Pride movement--so I give them credit. If it wasn't for people like them, most people would still be hiding in the closet. I do find it funny, however, that most of my "straight-acting" friends are scared to jump on coasters and the more "feminine" ones don't mind at all. I was lucky enough to have one boyfriend that I used to ride coasters with; but I already said my next boyfriend is going to be cute but geeky... like me.

But as you get older, you'll find that if someone truly wants to be your friend and you have the same interests and get along, you better keep them. You're gonna let yourself down and waste time with people that have a certain look or mannerisms, but treat you like crap. But guess who most people run after and are unhappy for it?

Besides, some of the people that have said the same words as you wind up being the biggest "girls" I've ever met. I just look at them and say "Look, it's Cleopatra. Queen of Denial." Not saying that to read, but just to say don't worry about what others think of you. You have to be comfortable with yourself and however you want to express yourself. It's your life. Live it.

Terry "Been called momma, sister and Popi" Weaver

P.S. I think issues hanging out with feminine persons have more to do with you than the other person. It's a part of not being comfortable with your identity yet. I went through it too. But you'll find that they're a blast to be around. They're usually outgoing so they know a lot of people which makes for a fun night in a bar with them. Ohh the stories I had that started with hanging out with drag queens and they introduced me to other guys...

Perhaps I'm in the minority...

I am gay, but I really don't get along with gay people in general. Not because I dislike the feminine quality of some guys or go out of my way to not befriend them... but rather, I don't like the overwhelmingly materialistic, vain, and shallow attitudes that many of them seem to have. When I first came out, I tried so hard to fit in with the gay community but the guys around where I live (especially guys around my age) seem to only have an interest in drugs, sex, fashion and idiots like Britney Spears/Lindsay Lohan/etc. It's so rare to meet normal guys who just happen to be gay. Besides my boyfriend, I don't really have any gay friends, instead mostly straight, male friends.

Anyone else like this?

^Sounds like bar friends issues rather than gay friends. It depends where you meet them; if you meet them at the bar chances are that's what they're gonna be all about. I don't try to make acquaintances met in a bar my friends, unless they're making an effort to do things outside of a bar. People in their 20s aren't going to care too much beyond partying... it's not until their 30's they start slowing down... or life gets slowed down for them. So if I head out for an evening I just put people in groups and deal with them that way. If someone wants to come out of the "bar" category, that's great. But I don't expect them to be my new best friend. I have straight and gay bar friends and straight and gay good friends. I don't mix 'em up.

Funny enough, you know where I met my best friend? On Halloween and he was in drag looking a mess and he knew it. We spent most of the night cracking jokes and talking about various things. We started hanging out, having dinner, going to movies and taking road trips after that. When we met he was working a part time dead end job; he said that the other people he knew weren't going anywhere in life and I had inspired him to go back to school and get a good job. He now has his masters and is a project manager at a large company. So you never know about people; if you don't have the "look down on people" attitude, you may end up with a good friend that you can inspire do better just by seeing how you're living your life. I've been friends with this guy for over 10 years. Of course, if you don't have that much don't expect much.

My other good friends were met while doing volunteer work. Your chances for finding good friends go up when doing something in common. So if you aren't meeting good people one place, try something different.

O dear Lord yes. I have one friend at school who's gay, and acts EXACTLY like that. The reason why we're only friends, nothing more. He has his own job and buys the most expensive clothes he can buy basically. Now I will buy something nice, every once in a long while as far as clothes/stuff goes, but for him its literally EVERY day. He's a good friend, just bugs the crap out of me sometimes.

It's because you're young, and you seem to be hanging out with guys your own age. It gets much better as you get older, or just pick more mature friends. Here in the homo-capitol of the world, (and working and volunteering in the community itself for 7 years) I avoid the younger set like the plague, for the very reasons you stated. (Though, I have to interact with them from time to time, I too dislike them.) I sympathize for them, they get that way after being beat down all their young lives, and then overcompensate. They're very ugly, they just haven't realized it yet. And when they do, most of them change into normal, friendly people. The ones that don't usually end up as Tina-freaks or prostitutes.

I'm definitely in between what has been posted recently, but I don't blame a whole "stereotype" for that, just the individual(s). I've been exposed to a wide array of people at a younger age; 17 while working at Cedar Point first time out of the house, and out of the closet. Actually being in an environment that lets seeing all types of people in various stages of their life, has definitely opened my eyes and mind about people. I've always been open, but that experience has let me met some of the most interesting people I've ever met (not unlike TPR really) and to expect the unexpected of people.

I do find some of the really femme guys to be bothersome sometimes, and I also think the guys who try to hard to be "straight acting" can be annoying at times too. Either way it won't stop me from at least giving a quick chat to try and see the real them, and sometimes it's not far off, but sometimes it is. Just one of the fun things in life that everyone deals with no matter what sexuality you are. As to what type I date, it all depends on the guy, his personality, and if we click, any takers lol? At least a like of coasters and Disney isn't a bad thing.

With myself, I never really tried to fit in anywhere but where I was comfortable, so I'm not too fem and not too butch and don't try to go either way. I'm just me and that definitely has it's moments on both sides of the spectrum. I've actually had people forget that I'm gay, so when I say some random comment about a guy they look confused for a second.

And if all that was too long, I'm gay, everyone annoys me equally, I'm weird, and single lol.
