Token Yankee Guy
So yeah, most of you know that the North East has been having non stop rain for almost a week now, which has caused rivers and towns to flood. The Farmington River just a few minutes down the road in the Tariffville Gorge is roughly 3ft away from flood stage which is 9ft. So I went down to the river to check out how high the water levels are and well, they're way above normal levels... This is the old part of Tunxis Rd which dead ends where a bridge used to be. The broken dam with the waters going over part of the dam This is what the normal level of the water is at the dam is supposed to be at. Looking down the river That's a piece of the dam that's almost submerged by the river. Another look at the dam One of the branches of the river flooding More river. The water is usually at the base of this slab of cement.... Path along the river Side look of the dam One more look down the river Another look at what the water level should be at. Heading farther up the road Walking down the path to the river. River flooding.. When the water levels are normal, Kyackers dare to try the Farmington River. But beware, you MUST be an expert to try this, people have died trying to kyack this river. i wonder if that is rated class 4 or class 5 rapids..... Another look at the river. phazan
Wow! That river is moving really fast! That looks like a pretty cool area you live in. The same thing happened to the creek I live next to. It got so close to emptying out onto the road. Nice pictures!
