Casino Pier (Seaside Heights) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

The land on which the extension is to be built is still owned by the borough, but is awaiting final approval to be swapped with Casino Pier’s owner in exchange for a historic carousel and an oceanfront lot on the boardwalk. ...

Casino Pier has received approval from the borough to build the physical extension to the pier, but must come before the planning board and submit a final site plan detailing what will be built on it before rides can be assembled.

Am I understanding this correctly that they bought the ride before getting all the approvals for it, or... you know.... owning the land they plan to build it on? That's ballsy.

Snooki's last "normal" job before Jersey Shore was as a secretary where I now work. Apparently she just stopped showing up one day and no one could get in touch with her or had any idea what was going on. They only figured it out when the show started airing.

That said, I blame the cesspool, Pizza-Rat-infested, vomit pile of a city (otherwise known as New York) more than anything. The vast majority of these people either came from there or desperately, desperately want to be from there. I know some of these people first-hand.

I mean I know New York is no Cherry Hill but we try our best.

A lot of people that visit the Jersey shore are also from places such as Elizabeth NJ, Jersey City, New Brunswick and any other area in Jersey close to NYC.

I'll take the cesspool, Pizza-Rat-Infested, Vomit pile of a city (Otherwise known as the greatest city in the world) any day.

Wildwood is the the only cool beach on the Jersey Shore.

I mean, sure, if you're a fan of needles.

NJ has some of the cleanest beaches in the country, I think tied with New Hampshire for first.

The cleanest beach awards have a bunch of weird technicalities but yeah, the New Jersey, Delaware, Northern Maryland (basically Ocean City) and New Hampshire beaches are the cleanest in the nation. Delaware won in 2013 but then in true Delaware fashion Rehoboth Beach didn't bother to have enough testing done to qualify even though the ones they did have were pristine because you know... slower lower Delaware. F**k it, they were probably too busy drinking.

And yeah I found the beach in Wildwood to be very clean. It has a very gradual slope compared to the beaches I'm used to and even most beaches in the same state like Seaside so the waves break over a very large area. It feels a lot like a Carolina beach actually.

I think it's also water quality too. Since NJ and the northeast has some of the toughest environmental laws, the water has cleaned up way faster than the rest of the country. It bums me out when people say the water is gross in jersey. Sure it's not always clear but it doesn't mean it's polluted.

Back on track, I loved dare devil dive at sfog and can't wait to ride another eurofighter.

Even though I vehemently despise beaches (I stick to boardwalks), I'd definitely agree with this statement. I noticed this when I visited Wildwood last summer. Made me SMH even more when that video went around showing how much garbage covered the beach after Memorial Day weekend this year.

But that's most of Jersey/Philly/NYC for you.

^^Yeah I remember that video and it was really pretty infuriating. When you have the only beach in the state that doesn't charge beach fees (I'm not counting Atlantic City, that place is a dumpster fire and not charging fees is just a desperate attempt to get people to show up) and a city government that's entertaining the idea of beach fees and only decided against it because of pressure from voters and from North Wildwood and Wildwood Crest's refusal to charge them, things like that are going to ruin it for everyone. The argument is due to the cost of cleaning the beaches and while the argument is bull***, things like that are going to make their case for them.

  • 3 weeks later...

Construction began last week to rebuild the pier at Casino Pier that was destroyed during Super Storm Sandy. The new pier will not extend into the ocean as the old pier did. Instead the new pier will be adjacent to the boardwalk extending northward over the sand.

Casino Pier Begins Expansion Northward

By Catherine Galioto

SEASIDE HEIGHTS – New pilings stand erect on the beachfront, marking the next step in expanding Casino Pier northward.

The amusement pier will grow more than an acre to make way for additional rides, the result of a controversial land swap that pitted environmentalist and public access advocates against those in support of the expansion, who said it would increase tourism and sustain the economy of Seaside Heights.

Now, the project is underway, with the temporary dunes recognizable in the off season pushed aside at Sherman Avenue to mark off where the new footprint of the pier would go.

Nearby in the Casino Pier’s maintenance lot across the street of Ocean Terrace, the parts of a new blue and green roller coaster sat unassembled.

The activity comes after several months of public hearings and awaiting approvals between all parties, for a plan that would take 1.36 acres of Seaside Heights beachfront and give it to Casino Pier so the owners could build the pier northward with more amusements.

The pier hasn’t rebuilt to its pre-Sandy size, and instead of rebuilding back out over the ocean, the Storino Family who owns Casino Pier is pursuing beach land for its $30 million project to add rides such as a giant Ferris Wheel.

In exchange for giving a parcel of beach to the north of the Casino Pier to the Storino Family for its project, the borough of Seaside Heights would get one of the Storino-owned parking lots in town, between Carteret and Sampson Avenues. That lot could possibly become the home of a museum that would house the historic carousel, transferring ownership of the landmark, hand-carved ride for preservation by the town.

Originally, Casino Pier sought to build its pier south, buying land south, but a deal could not be reached between the owners. Rebuilding the pier to its length over the ocean is cost-prohibitive, its representatives said. That back part of the pier famously fell into the Atlantic Ocean as a result of Superstorm Sandy, the Jet Star roller coaster sitting in the water.

This week, construction crews arrived for the initial work, temporarily closing the portion of the boardwalk near the Aztec to move in equipment.

Has Gerstlauer actually been confirmed because this looks like a Zierer?

Compare this...

With this...

maxresdefault.jpg

And this...

With this (note the seat backs and sides)

And this flat track is used on the drop and pre-drop sections.

Impulse...

This screams Zierer and honestly good because Impulse is a lot of fun. I'm no expert on this type of thing, I could be wrong but that's what it looks like to me at least.

Nope, this is a Gerstlauer Infinity, that's certain. There are a few differences if you look closely, but those are indeed very similar so I understand your doubts.

Okay. I'm not very good at this type of thing so I'll buy that, I just saw the trains and immediately thought of Impulse.

I looked at pictures of Monster and Impulse, and the track type looks nearly identical, but track similarities happen with tons of different manufacturers. When you look at the trains on Monster, Impulse and this, they're all similar, but this new coaster has trains that definitely share more similarities with Monster and other recent infinity coasters.

On the trains:

-The shape of the headrest are diferent

-The bulky box for the lap-bar on the Zierer

-The shin-guard on the Zierer only

On the track:

-The diagonal ties are square on the Gerst, round on the Zierer

-The slanted diagonal ties (those on the undersides) are connected to the rails on the Gerst, and to the square ties on the Zierer

-The track connector between two tri-tubes track segments are square on the Gerst, round on the Zierer

-The support connector goes all the way up on the Zierer, but not on the Gerst

That's a few differences I can see between the two.

You guys are way nerdier than I am. Those differences in the track are so subtle, I wouldn't have been able to tell tbe difference thats for sure.

Anyway Im sure a coaster from either manufacturer is a great thing. I haven't been on an infinity coaster but Impluse sure is a solid ride.

My god. . . This entire time I've been looking at roller coaster track all wrong. I'll forever never be able to look at a piece of track again without paying attention to where the cross beams connect, and if the diagonal ties are square or round!! What have you done??? You've ruined me forever!
