Casino Pier (Seaside Heights) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Sheesh, looks like additional damage has been done to funtown. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say there are now 5 defunct credits.

I spent a bit of time running through before and afters on an abc stations website, it really showed the overall impact this storm is going to have on that beachside community and how much people loved the place. I wonder how many people live there year round vs 'summer' homes.

^ It wasn't really that the storm dragged them into the ocean, it's that the storm knocked out the support structure (the wooden pier) that they were standing on. The rides are pretty much in the same place they were before, just without the piers that they were sitting on.

Here, this will give you an idea of how it looked before....

Is Star Jet now considered marine salvage?

A couple months ago as I arrived at Funtown Pier it started raining, and they shut everything down for a few hours. At the time I was annoyed since I had to keep feeding the meter, but now it turns out they were justified in being cautious.

My rides on Star Jet weren't great (the first in the front was decent, the second in the back was pretty bad - not a favorite Miler of mine), but I thought it was really cool being out over the water. The looper was pretty bad. I'm mostly disappointed about the dark ride, since it seemed to have had a lot of effort put into it. Mighty Mouse was pretty good too (the same can't be said for the mouse still standing on Casino Pier). Overall, they were very nice pier parks, and with not a lot of those remaining, hopefully they, and the rest of NJ, can turn it around and be better off for it.

It's bizarre how it looks like most of the stuff just sort of dropped down. The coaster stayed mostly together with itself. Even the lift of the log flume is standing up, just down in the sand. I'm surprise they're not in more pieces.

The last bug storm we had there were houses picked up an moved across the street by the surge so gently there were still vases in the window with flowers in them. Now I'm not sure who prepares for a storm by putting flowers in the window, but you get the idea.

Statement from Casino Pier tonight...

Thank you to everyone who reached out to us with the kind words and prayers of support. You have given us strength in the time of darkness.

We can guarantee you that we may have suffered a physical loss, but our spirit and resolve cannot be taken. Our heart is still beating strong thanks to all our remarkable employees and we will be back as strong as ever!

We continue to keep all of our neighbors and colleagues in NJ and our surrounding areas that were also effected by Sandy in our thoughts and prayers and hope for their fast transition to rebuilding their past and making beginning their future.

Its sad and amazing at the same time to see all these pictures of the Jersey Shore piers/parks. What's really sad though is all the people who lost their homes or had significant damage done to them and the lives that were lost. I'm impressed though with how well organized people are in the NE and the efforts made by NJ governor Chris Christy, president Obama, and NYC mayor Bloomberg. Everyone is a lot more organized then after Hurricane Katrina, though that was a lot worse.

Some good will come out of this. People will be brought together, things will get rebuild, new jobs will be created rebuilding and cleaning up, and better rides will replace the ones lost at the Jersey Shore parks. Just trying to see some light in this.

Ok, after reading about half of this entire thread.....couldn't get through the entire thing with all the nastiness in here, I was a bit shocked at how Starjet at Casino Pier is being dismissed. I've always considered it one of the best smaller coasters I've ever ridden, as did many other enthusiasts I know on the east coast! It was a REALLY fun ride with some good air time, far better than just about every other 40-50 foot coaster I've ridden. I'm a bit shocked at how people are just like...they're rebuild, no big loss..etc. Casino Pier is (was?) a great pier! Both the Star Jet and Miler mouse coaster there were really quite fun, as was the dark ride and some of the flats. We loved going there, been there several times had a blast in Seaside every time. Also enjoyed visiting Funtown Pier, while IMHO not as good as Casino Pier still a fun seaside pier. I'm truly going to miss the coasters and the piers, they will never be the same again no matter what gets rebuilt, or doesn't get rebuilt.

I would think that just about ANY catastrophe to any park would be lamented by park and coaster enthusiasts. I guess I'm wrong on that, but I personally can't think of one park that has closed that I had visited, that I didn't wish was still there!

Looking at the photos, it seems like Funtown Pier got it worse that Casino Pier. Casino only looks to have lost 4 or 5 attractions. Funtown looks like it lost the majority of what was left on the Pier and not stored. The S&S Tower hung in there though.

Be interesting to see what comes out of this when the parks rebuild and add replacements.

I'm not sure if anyone saw some of the earlier posted overheard pictures of the Seaside Heights area. In the place of many former houses you could see random fires. I heard Governor Chris Christie mentioning today that the natural gas pipeline from Bay Head to Seaside Heights (about 20-25 miles) had to be shut of as it is severely damaged and can not be fixed. It has to be replaced. This is expected to be a 6-8 month project. At least many of the houses are second homes/summer rentals so the number of people displaced is not as high as it could have been.

I see the piers at Seaside Heights coming back, but not in 2013.

Statement from Casino Pier, hopes to be back in operation at some point in 2013

On Monday October 29, 2012 the properties of Casino Beach Pier, LLC sustained severe damage as a result of Hurricane Sandy. Access to the barrier island of Seaside Heights has been halted since the hurricane hit New Jersey, and thus actual assessment of all the damage is still impossible. The family of Casino Beach Pier has reported in and is ok. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers and we hope that all of you are doing well. We are hopeful of being able to get a better assessment of our property in the upcoming days and be able to assess our options moving forward.

It is our plan to be able to back in operations for 2013, however the extent and timing of that operation is out of our control at this time. Once we can provide more information, we will do so through our website and social sites. While our properties have suffered damage, we are more fortunate than many of our neighbors. For them we pray for some relief and a fast transition to rebuilding their past and beginning their futures.
